WILLIAM ALEXANDER HOGSHEAD (1748-1804)

Captain John Dickey's Company
of Augusta County Militia

William Alexander Hogshead was born in April 1748 in Augusta County, Virginia. He served in the Revolutionary War as a member of Captain John Dickey's Company of Virginia Militia.

William's father, James Hogshead Sr., also served in the Revolutionary War. He was a member of Captain James Trimble's Company, Augusta Militia. William's mother was Elizabeth Davis.

William was twice married. His first wife was Sarah Davis. After she died he married Sarah Jane Robertson, daughter of James Robertson Jr. and Elizabeth Crawford. His second marriage took place May 25, 1779, in Rockingham County, Virginia.

William and Sarah Jane were the parents of five children, two daughters and three sons. The second son, William (1788-1871), married Christiana McNair Hawkins, who was an ancient grandmother of the compiler of this journal.
