Henderson James Colvin in early Pittman Creek Baptist Church records, used the name James Henderson Colvin. He may be the son of Robert Colvin and Elizabeth Henderson of Chester County, PA.

In Taylor County Vital Statistics, Mary Russell Colvin's death is recorded: daughter of John and Jane Russell, born Chester County, Virginia. Her tombstone reads: born in Virginia,Died in Kentucky, plus the birthdate and death date. There was no Chester County, Va., but on the 1790 census there is a John and Jane Russell in Chester, Shenandoah County, Virginia. She could be the daughter of either set of parents. The town of Chester was on the nebulous border between Shenandoah County and Frederick County, where she was married, in 1787.

In will book 2, page 171-3, Chesterfield County, Virginia (1765--1784) is a will by John Russell of Chesterfield County, made 27 October, 1776, naming his sons Stephen, John and Jesse Russell, brother Peter Russell, daughters Sarah, Phebe, Amee, Martha, Elizabeth.Whether there is any relation is pure speculation.

(Mary Russell was born on 14 Jul 1772 in Halifax County, Virginia, died on 18 Oct 1854 in Taylor County, Kentucky and was buried in Brookside Cemetery, Campbellsville, KY.)

His marriage license is dated 28 Aug 1787 but he and Mary Russell were actually married on 31 August 1787 at Winchester, VA (an independent city within the confines of Frederick Co., VA.)
