  • Born: Bef 1740, Chester County, Pennsylvania
  • Died: Bef 13 Nov 1781, Chester County, Pennsylvania

   General Notes:

Robert Colvin first appears on tax lists of E. Nottingham Twp., Chester Co. PA in 1756 which may indicate he was about age 16 or over in that year. Subsequently he appears on this tax list in 1768 as a "joyner", on 31 Jan 1770 (for taxes of 3..0.0), and so on through 1780.

On 17 June 1766 he was appointed co-administrator with Elizabeth Colvin of the estate of John Colvin, deceased.

A Chester County PA history lists him as a landowner in E. Nottingham in 1774. His inventory was taken on 13 Nov 1781 by Samuel and Henry Ewing. It was presented to the court by Samuel Ewing on 22 May 1782 and on 23 May 1782,Esther Calvin (sic) and John Henry Calvin (sic) were appointed co-administrators of Robert's estate with Henry and John Ewing as their securities. Bond was witnessed by Robert and George McElheney. On 26 Apr 1792 the heirs of Robert Colvin sold his 131 acres in Chester Co. to John Watt of E. Nottingham Twp. (Book H-2:31) It is presumed, although not proved, that Robert was the son of John Colvin who had resided in Chester Co. as early as 1734 until his death in E. Nottingham Twp. John may have been an emigrant from Scotland as there is a tradition in the family that this line came from Scots ancestry.
