The Burnett Story

 

In 1830, Campbell Co., Tennessee, William Burnet is listed page 220; Thomas Burnet on page 220 but he is listed there in 1840 so he isn't Treacy's husband. John Burnet is on page 225 and Zachariah Haddok is on page 227. William and Thomas are both listed living near one another and are not young and they both have a house full of children. Their families are still living there in 1840. It may be that John Burnett is Treacy's husband.

Haddok, Zachariah: 0021000100000-1111001000000, listed two males 10-15, one male 15-20, one male 50-60, females were 1 female under 5, 1 female 5 to 10, one female 10 to 15, 1 female 15 to 20, and one female 50 to 60. [Ref: Campbell Co., TN, 1830, page 227.] The data reads Haddok and not Haddon as it was transcribed by other researchers.

John Burnet on page 225 has a male under 5 and is 20 to 30 with a wife 20 to 30. He lives between Amos Usher and Adam Hunter. 1830 Campbell Co., TN

Teresa Burnet was in Barry County, MO, in 1840 on the Federal Population Schedules, US Census. Teresa was living next door to Charles Haddix. And also on the other side of her residence was Charles Haddock. Teresa was living between Charles Jr. and Charles Sr. and was listed as a widow.

In 1840, Teresa Burnet reported that she had 1 male under 5, 2 males 5-10, 1 male 10-15. And she was listed as a widow, age 30-40 years old.

The houses mentioned above are listed in order like they appeared on the Federal Population Schedules, US Census of that year. J. I. Davis, Charles Haddix, Teresa Burnet, Charles Haddock, Michael Masters, Jacob Hickam, Moses Carter, John Yoakum, William Haddock, G. G. Easley, and Clark McDonald.

In the 1840 listing, Mrs. Burnet - Teresa Burnett - had four males, but in the 1850, she had listed that she had three males. William who was living in the county a few doors away was added as the other male.

In 1850 listed on the Federal Population Schedules, US Census, Barry Co., MO, was Tery Burnett. House # 23, Tery Burnett was listed as a 40 year old female, and also she stated that she was born in NC, and had sons Zeckariah, age 19, born in TN, Joshua, age 15, born in Tennessee, and John L., age 12, born in Tennessee. [Research Note: John L. would have been born about 1838 and he has given his birthplace as Tennessee.]


In 1840 the Federal Census listed Sugar Creek Twp. as the Roaring River area, but when the original land entries were opened for entry - it was divided and renamed.

and on page 41 was Joel Petty listed as Petty, J. H. 10001-00001;

and Haddock, Zachariah 000020001-00110001.

It's not known for sure if this was Charles Sr. or Charles Jr.  In August, 1841, Charles Haddock was appointed overseer of a road from John J. Davis' house to the first crossing of Roaring River, above Widow Burnett's and was empowered to compel all hands from Davis' field down the river, one mile below Michael Master's old farm, to labor on such road, A. L. Thompson appointed overseer. Along the route were Elim Moffitt, Hugh M. Miller, Mr. Hill, the Parr family on the prairie north to A. L. Thompson, and east to Joel Barber. Johnanna was recorded as John in this record of the Federal Census. In House # 28 listed on the Barry Co., MO, Federal Population Schedules, US Census, of 1850, was Burnett, William, 21, (m), TN, living with him was John, 18, (f), TN. Miller Lee the father of Jane Lee is living next door to William Burnett and Johanna in 1850. Miller Lee is in house # 27 and William Burnett is in house # 28, Barry County, MO. On the other side of William Burnett in house # 29 is Thomas Strong and wife Mary. And also, Tery Burnett is listed in house # 23.]

 In 1870 Grayson County, TX, McComb was the Post office [Series: M593 Roll:1588, Page: 93] listed on the Federal Population Schedules, US Census in house # 174, and family # 178: Burnett, J. E. age 36, farmer born in TN, wife Susan D, age 27, born in AL, is keeping house. Children are listed as Isabella E., age 8, born in TX; Lee, age 4, male, born in TX; and Susan A., age 2, born in TX. 

1880, Federal Population Schedules, US Census, Cooke County, TX, page 373B, Joshua E. Burnett, age 46, born TN, farmer, listed his father born in VA and his mother as born in NC. Susan, age 37, his wife was born in AL, keeping house, and listed her father born in VA and her mother as born in IN. Nay Burnett, a son was age 13 born in TX; Allen, a son, age 11, born in TX; Nat Burnett, age 6 ,born in TX; and Minnie, a daughter, was born in TX, and age 2. [Family History Library Film # 1255298]

In 1910 Joshua E. Burnett was age 76. He was living in Garrett Twp., of Johnson Co., OK. Also in the county was Nay L. Burnett, age 43, born in Texas.

Living in house # 375 and listed as family # 375 was C Burnet, female, age 52, born in NC, And in her household was J. Burnet, male, farmer, age 23, born in TN. In household # 376 and family # 376 was J. Burnet, male, age 25, born TN; E., female, wife, age 18, born in GA; and a child, J., listed as a female, age 1 born in TX.

In 1870 Grayson County, TX, McComb Post office [Series: M593 Roll:1588, Page: 93] listed on the Federal Population Schedules, US Census in house # 174, and family # 178: Burnett, J. E. age 36, farmer born in TN, wife Susan D, age 27, born in AL, is keeping house. Children are listed as Isabella E., age 8, born in TX; Lee, age 4, male, born in TX; and Susan A., age 2, born in TX.

Next door in house # 175, family # 170 is Zachariah Burnett, age 38, farmer, born in TN. Lottie, his wife, was age 25, keeping house, and was born in AL. Children are listed as George, age 18, born in MO, a stock raiser; Andy, age 15, born MO; Eliza, female, age 13, born in MO; Charles, age 6, born in Texas; Elizabeth, age 4, born in TX; and Columbia, age 3, born in TX.

1880, Federal Population Schedules, US Census, Cooke Co., Texas, page 374C, listed Zack Burnett, age 48, born in TN, a farmer, who listed his father born in VA, and he left blank where his mother was born. His wife was listed as Charlotte and she was age 35, born in AL, and she listed that she was keeping house, but left blank where her parents were born. Children were Charles, age 15, born in TX; Elizabeth, age 13, born in TX; Columbia, age 12, born in TX; and Willie, age 8, born in TX. Family History Library Film # 1255298.

Zachariah Barnett, State of TX, 1890, Cooke County, Pct 7, ED 31, Page 001, was listed 1890 Veteran's Schedule.

1900 Federal Population Schedules, US Census, Chickasaw Nation, house # 3, family # 3 listed Zachariah Burnett, born Sept 1831, age 69, born in TN. He listed his father born in VA and his mother born in NC. He has been married 38 years. Sarlotte, his wife, was born Sept of 1845 and was age 55 and was born in AL. Her father was born in TN and her mother in OH. She has been married 38 years and has had 4 children and has 2 living children. Also in the house was daughter, Columbia, and her husband Willis Carson. Willis W. Carson was born January 1861 in Iowa, and he reported that his father was born in Illinois and his mother in IN. He had been married for 13 years. His wife, Columbia Burnett, was b: November 1867 in Texas, listed her father born in TN and her mother born in AL. She had been married 13 years and had four children with 3 living children. Rondeau A. Carson, b: August 1888 in Chickasaw Nation, OK; Chester J. Carson, b: October 1894 in Chickasaw Nation, OK; and Burnie Carson, b: November 1896 in Chickasaw Nation, OK. Zachariah was in TWP 5 S RANGE 5 E of the Chickasaw Nation. Living next door to them is another of Zachariah's daughters. Ayers Holland, head of household, age 39, born March 1861, born in TX, and his father in LA, and his mother in GA. He has been married 20 years and is a day laborer. His wife Isabell E., is age 37, born Nov 1869 in Texas. Her father was born in TN and her mother in AL. She has been married 20 years and has had 7 children and has 7 living children. They were listed as Asa C., age 19, born Feb 1881, born in TX; Arthur A., Oct 1883, age 16, born in TX; Lonnie E., Jan 1886, age 14, born in Indian Territory; Robert J., born Oct 1890, age 9, born in Indian Territory; Maulse O., Nov 1893, age 6, born in Indian Territory; Bertha V., born June 1896, age 3, born in Texas; and Maggie, born Jan 1898, age 2, born in Indian Territory. Wife was listed as Anna age 23 born in TX, keeping house and she left blank where her parents were born. Robert was age 4 born in TX. [NA Film # T9-1298.]

1900, Indian Territory, Chickasaw, TWP 7 S, RANGE 2 E, [Series: T623 Roll: 1848, Page: 299] In house # 103, family # 103, was listed as head of household, George Burnett, age 46, born Sept 1854 in Missouri, listed his father born in TN and his mother born in MO. He and Annie had been married 25 years and she had given birth to 2 children and 0 children living. Annie E., age 42, Oct 1857 was born in Texas. Her father was born in KY and his mother was born in MO.
