Louisa was the grandaughter of John Conrad Carkner, a United Empire Loyalist, and Virtue Lord. John was born in Albany, NY. As a loyalist, John moved his family to Quebec, Canada. when the American Revolution started.
A book written by Thomas W. Carkner, The Descendants of John Conrad Carkner U.E.L.: A History of the Carkner Family in Canada mentions Louisa's marriage to John on page 72:
"She would likely have been only about seventeen years old at the time of her marriage to John Delorme on the 13th of October 1834.
Thomas W. Carkner has little to say about John's family. On page 72 he writes:
"The only Delorme's known to be living in the vicinity were for many generations river voyagers who transported cargo fron Lachine to St. Andrews and had a little ship yard at the mouth of the River Rouge in the Seigneury of Argenteuil."
John and Louisa were married (after publication of marriage bans) October 13, 1834 by Rev. William McKillican at the Congregational Church in Hawkesbury, Prescott County, Ontario. Louisa's parents, Richard and Margaret Carkner, witnessed the ceremony.
The 1850 US Federal Census indicates the family moved to the Franklin County (NY) area shortly before the birth of their fifth child, Eliza, in 1843. The family initially settled in the town of Bangor.
John married Mary Sweet before 1870, when the US Federal Census records their combined families living in the town of Fort Covington, NY.
