Death Notice for Edwin C Rand

Death Notice for Edwin C Rand

[Elizabethtown]
POST AND GAZETTE
THURSDAY, DEC. 3, 1885

Transcribed by Bruce De Larm

E. Gifford and Edward Rand, started from Hague-on-Lake-George, deer hunting, Monday, 23d ult. After traveling some time Gifford stopped and loaded his rifle; it was a borrowed gun and he did not notice that after loading it remained at full cock. After loading he shouldered the gun and started on, Rand following closely in his footsteps. Going through bushes the trigger was pulled, the gun discharged and the bullet pierced the heart of Rand, who expired instantly. They were close friends and the grief of Gifford, who is 60 years of age, while he was carrying the body of his young comrade over a mountain and through woods three miles, to the nearest farm house, unaided, can be better imagined than described.
