Dr. J. E. Prestridge has been difficult to place in the family tree. Some researchers show him as the child of John, son
of Joshua Prestridge and Elizabeth Gover. Other researchers have placed him as the child of John, son of John and Elizabeth Walters. I've
decided to place Dr. J.E. here based solely on one document. Here is what the document says:
"State of Mississippi, County of Pike
Personally come before the Justice of the Peace in and for said county, Samuel Prestridge, who being duly sworn, deposeth and swore that he
was a called on by John Prestridge, deceased, on October 20, 1827, to witness that said John Prestridge, deceased, left in the hands of
Joseph Prestridge $500 and one horse, saddle and bridle to be given to John E. Prestridge as soon as said John E. Prestridge should come of
age. Sworn to and subscribed. Samuel Prestridge (signature) Octboer 11, 1837."
What we do know is that Dr. J. E. (mentioned above) was
the son of John Prestridge. Let's look at the two John Prestridge's that are possible fathers of Dr. J. E. which has led to the conculsion
to place him in this branch of the family. Notice that above affidavit contains four imporart names, those being: John Prestridge,
deceased; John E. Prestridge, the son of the deceased; Samuel Prestridge, the one making the affidavit; and Joseph Prestridge, who the claims are
made against. Here are the sons of the two families side by side for illustration purposes:
