Born :
about 1788
VirginiaParents : John 2 Prestidge & Elizabeth Walters
Grand Parents : John 1 Prestidge & Anne
Died :
after 1850, before 1860
Mississippi or Texas (?)
Age :
approximatley 67 years
Burial :
Tombstone in Shiloh Cemetery
Robertson County, Texas
Note: There is a military tombstone in the Shiloh Cemetery, in Robertson County, Texas, which has:
While the birth date may be off, there is a stong suspecion that this is the grave of Samuel listed here.
Supporting circumstance are as follows:
1.) Samuel's youngest son by his first marriage (William) is buried in the same cemetery.
2.) Samuel's tombstone was probably made within the last few years, thus accounting for the incorrect birth date.
3.) Samuel appears in the 1850 census but is missing from the 1860, indicating he died between 1850 and 1860.
4.) Samuel is listed as fighting in the War of 1812, 13th Regiment (Nixon's) of Mississippi Militia, and/or Perkins 7th Battalion.
Perhaps Samuel followed his brother Larkin to Texas.
Facts that don't match up:
1.) Samuel was last found in Pike County, Mississippi in 1850.
2.) William, his son, apprears not to have migrated to Texas until after 1871 according to Williams Pension Application.
3.) All the children that can be docuemnted, except William, continued to live in Mississippi.
4.) His age based on facts is that his oldest child was born in 1804, if he was born in 1792, Samuel would have only been
12 years old. (Doubtful) In the 1850 Census the census taker says he is 62 which would make him born in 1788, given this fact, that would
make him 16 years old when his oldest child was born. (More plausable)
