Judge John Breitenbach DRAYER Obituary, March 1891

The Rev. John B. Drayer (as known in later years), a local preacher, was born in Lebanon, Pa., April 7, 1823. When nineteen he commenced reading law, and was admitted to practice in 1844. In 1862 he entered the service of his country as Captain of Company H, in the 30th Iowa Volunteer Infantry, and after seven months was obliged to resign his commission on account of ill-health; He was elected first circuit judge for the Henry County, Iowa, in 1863, and served until 1869, when he went on the bench. He was re-elected twice. As a jurist he was scrupulously conscientious and painstaking. His decisions were rarely reversed. In all the relations of life he has shown himself a man of the strictest integrity. He united with the Church in 1846. He preached for two years while in Iowa, and left his charge to enter the army. His Christian record is unsoiled, and he remained faithful until death called him from labor to reward. He had three wives. His first was Mary M. WITHROW, of Butler Co., Ohio, who died July 22, 1852, leaving two children, both now deceased. He was married to his second wife, Mary J. McCabe, of Eaton, Ohio, in February 1854. She died in October, 1871. He married his third wife, Amanda BAIRD, in December, 1872, who, with one daughter, and a daughter by his second wife, remain to mourn his loss. He resigned his office as judge in 1882, and has since lived at Seven Mile, Ohio. He took a deep interest in all that pertained to the prosperity of the Church, especially in the erection of our new church edifice, to which he gave liberally of his means. He was a devout Christian. As a local preacher he was acceptable to the people. His last years were years of suffering, yet he never lost his faith in God, and continued steadfast until the end, which took place March 22, 1891, he being sixty-seven years old.  by Frank Leever (author)

Fred GEORGE Obituary, Hamilton Journal News, July 27, 1959

Fred George, 88, 7 E. Spring St., Oxford, a resident of that community since 1947, died Sunday at 10:45 p.m. in McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital in Oxford where he had been a patient the last 10 days. Mr. George had suffered a stroke 10 months ago and had been in failing health since that time.
He was born in Morgan Township, February 6, 1871, a son of Enoch and Margaret DEARMOND George. He received his education in Morgan Township public schools and later attended Miami University and Otterbein College.
The deceased married Maybelle DUNCAN, and to this union were born five daughters. Mr. and Mrs. George had enjoyed many happy years of married life when Mrs. George died in 1942.
Most of his life, Mr. George had resided on Dwyer Rd. in Morgan Township, where he engaged in farming until 1947 when he moved to Oxford. Prominent in rural circles, he had been active in Grange programs and the Farm-Bureau.

Friends in Clermont County extend their sympathy to Superintendent J. W. MacDonald and Mrs. MacDonald upon learning of the death of Mrs. MacDonald's mother, Mrs. Maybelle D. GEORGE, who died Saturday in her home in Okeana, near Hamilton.
Mrs. George had spent almost her entire life in Butler County and was a devout Christian woman. In her early life she attended Otterbein College.
She is survived by her husband, Fred George; five daughters, Mrs. J. W. MacDonald, Batavia; Mrs. Edward G. ERTEL, R.F.D. 11, Dayton; Miss Alice GEORGE, Youngstown; Mrs. C. E. VANMASON, Cleveland, and Mrs. H. L. MYERS, Oxford. One brother also survives, Roy DUNCAN, Highland Park, Illinois.
Mr. and Mrs. MacDonald left early Wednesday morning to attend the funeral services which were held in the Okeana Methodist Church at 2:00 o'clock Wednesday afternoon. Burial was in Shandon cemetery.
 

Martha CONKLIN Obituary, HamiltonEvening Journal,Thursday, 16 August 1923

Perhaps the oldest citizen of Butler county passed away when dearh claimed Mrs. Martha CONKLIN, Wednesday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Rebecca Jane RICE of Sevenmile pike. At the time of her death Mrs. Conklin had reached the age of 105 years, after a life spent largely in Butler County. General debility combined with the extreme old age brought about Mrs. Conklin's death.
She left to mourn her death, five children, Mrs. Rebecca RICE, Kate JACKSON, John, Ezra and Louis CONKLIN. Many other relatives and a host of friends and neighbors are also left to mourn her death. Funeral Services will take place Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock from Sevenmile church. The remains will be laid to rest in the Oxford cemetery.

Charlotte KIMBLE Obituary, Hamilton newspaper, (died 29 December 1897)

Mrs. Charlotte Kimble, the wife of William Kimble of 608 Ross street died at noon Wednesday of dropsical affliction and general disability, at the advanced age of 64 years. She was a loving wife, a kind mother, a pleasant neighbor, true friend and a Christian woman, She is survived by the bereaved husband, six sons and three daughters.
The funeral will take place from her late residence at 1 o'clock Friday afternoon and at 2 o'clock from the First Baptist church, Revs. H. N. Quisenberry and G. Z. Machling officiating. Interment, Greenwood.

Catherine MONAT Obituary, Hamilton Weekly Telegraph, August 16, 1900

Mrs. Catherine MONAT, aged 89 years, and who for the past 25 years has resided at Port Union, died yesterday at that place. The deceased was born in Germany September 18, 1811. Barney Monet of Port Union, and also Mrs. Caroline Beckmann of St. Bernard, survive. The funeral service will be held Tuesday morning at 7 o'clock at the residence at Port Union and at 9 o'clock at St. Joseph's church. Interment St. Stephen's cemetery.

Barney Monet, a well known shoemaker of Port Union, passed away at his home at 3 o'clock Friday morning of general debility, aged 70 years, 6 months and 3 days. He was a native of Germany and has resided in Port Union since 1870. His wife preceded him in death on November 2, 1913. Mr. Monet is survived by three sons, Harry, Theodore, and William Monet and a large circle of friends. He was a member of St. Joseph's church.  Interment, St. Stephen's cemetery.

Anna Mary DOLF ALF Obituary, The Republican News, Hamilton, Ohio, January 18, 1909

Anna Mary Alf died at her home 1008 Greenwood ave. at the age 80 years, 6 months and 14 days. Mrs. Alf was the widow of the late Gerhard H. Alf. She was a devoted Catholic and a member of St. Stephen's church and a member of the Third order of St. Francis, the Ladies Society, Ladies Sodality, Poor Souls Society and the Sacred Heart League. Mrs. Alf was born Amshausen, Amtlinge, Hanover Germany, and came to this country in 1847 and to Hamilton in 1888. Mrs. Alf was united in marriage to the late Gerhard Alf and of this happy union 12 children resulted, six of whom survived her. She is also survived by fifteen grandchildren and two brothers. The funeral will take place at 8 a.m. Wednesday January 20. Burial St. Stephen's cemetery.

Mrs. Alice Allgaier, 84, 415 N. Third St., died Sunday afternoon in the Greenwood Manor Rest Home. Mrs. Allgaier, widow of Lorain Allgaier, suffered an injury in fall several years ago and had been in failing health. Mrs. Allgaier was born in Frankfort, Ky., June 19, 1870, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward GLORE. Educated in the public schools of Frankfort, she was married there on March 10, 1897, to Lorain Allgaier, and together they came to Hamilton shortly after. She had been a resident of Hamilton more than 50 years. Deeply religious, Mrs. Allgaier was a member of the Methodist Church, was a devoted and loving mother and wife whose first interest always was in her home and family. In her later years she was most devoted to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mrs. Allgaier leaves a son, Moreton Allgaier, and a daughter, Mrs. Earnest SCHRICHTE, both of Hamilton; five grandsons and 15 great grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews and many friends. Her husband Lorain Allgaier passed away Dec. 29, 1934, and she was preceded in death also by a brother, John Glore, and two sisters, Mrs. Maggie HAZLETT and Mrs. Anna FRAZIER. The funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Michael J. Colligan Funeral Home, 437 S. Third St. with the Rev. Wheaton P. WEBB, pastor of the First Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Jacob H. Augspurger, of Woodsdale, died at his home at four o'clock, this morning of dropsy of the heart, aged 66 years, four months and 29 days. His funeral takes place from his late residence at 10 o'clock to-morrow morning.

Frank BECKER Obituary, The Republical-News, Hamilton, Ohio, Friday, February 13, 1914

Frank H. Becker, one of Hamilton's oldest and most respected German Citizens passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Frank BOV, No. 25 South A Street Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from a complication of diseases and in his 76th year. He was born in Germany, January 15, 1838, came to this country with his parents at the age of 12 years and located in Hamilton where he had lived here ever since. He was connected with the Health Officer for many years. He was a devout Catholic a member of St. Stephen's church. He leaves four daughters, two sons, fifteen grandchildren and a large circle of friends to mourn their loss. The funeral will be held Monday morning from the home of his son, Frank Becker, 320 North Third at 8:30 o'clock. Services at St. Stephen's Church at 9 o'clock. Interment in St. Stephen's cemetery. Friends can view remains Sunday afternoon and evening.

Mrs. Mary Anna Schrichta Becker, wife of Frank Becker Sanitary officer, died at her home, 524 North Fifth street at 12:45 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, aged 71 years, of general debility. She was born in Swansdorf, Hanover, Germany September 29, 1838 and came direct to this city with her parents in 1848. She lived in Hamilton from that time until the hour of her death. Deceased was married in 1859 in St. Stephen's church this city and the golden wedding was celebrated a few months ago. Mrs. Becker leaves beside her husband, four daughters, Mrs. Katherine GREBNER, Mrs. Emma JACOBS, Mrs. Charles ROV, and Miss Mary Becker, and two sons, William and Frank Becker all of this city. Ten grandchildren also survive. Mrs. Becker was a member of St. Stephen's church and the Third Order of St. Francis. The funeral will be held Friday morning at 8:30 o'clock at St. Stephen's church. Burial will be made in St. Stephen's cemetery. Friends may view the remains Thursday from 8 until 9 p.m. The family requests that no flowers be sent.

The funeral of Mrs. Flora Beeler, aged 64 years, and wife of Chris Beeler, who died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Jacob SCHAUP, 1015 Canal street, Wednesday noon, will take place from the house on Friday afternoon at 3 o'clock, Rev. Mr. EDENBURN officiating. The remains will be taken to Monroe, for interment.

Mrs. Flora Beeler, wife of Christian Beeler, died at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Jacob SCHAUP at 1015 Canal street at 2 p.m. yesterday afternoon of cancer and aged 64 years. Mrs. Beeler was born in New York state, moved to Pennsylvania when quite young and was married there in 1852. She came to this city four years ago and had since made her home here. One daughter only, Mrs. Jacob Schaup survives the union. The funeral will take place from the residence at 1015 . . . .

Mrs. Rose FLUM, age 61, 1034 Greenwood avenue, wife of Harry Flum, died of complications at one o'clock Friday afternoon in Mercy hospital. She had been ill one year and confined to her bed for four months. Mrs. Flum was born in Batesville, Indiana, March 31, 1888 and came to Hamilton with her parents at the age of two years. On May 7, 1913, she was married in St. Stephen Catholic church to Harry Flum and one daughter was born to the union. A lifelong member of St. Stephen church, she was a member of all orders of the church and the Third Order of St. Francis. She was a member of St. Elizabeth Auxiliary, Knights of St. John. Jovial and of a generous disposition, Mrs. Flum enjoyed a wide circle of friends to whom her death brings sincere sorrow. Mrs. Flum leaves the widower, Harry Flum; a daughter, Mrs. Francis SCHRICHTE, Hamilton; two sisters, Mrs. Jacob NEWMAN and Miss Theresa Fuersich, both of Hamilton. Two brothers, Ben Fuersich, Hamilton, Louis Fuersich, Elmwood and two grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 o'clock Monday morning in the W.F. Cahill and Sons funeral home, 229 Dayton street, followed by requiem high mass at 10 o'clock in St. Stephen Catholic church. Burial will be in St. Stephen cemetery. Friends may call after four o'clock Sunday afternoon and evening at the funeral home. St. Elizabeth auxiliary will hold services at 7:30 o'clock and the Third Order of St. Francis at 7:45 o'clock Sunday night in the funeral home.

George J. Fuersich, faithful, employee of the American Foundry, was ill for the past four weeks, died Monday at 5:30 p.m. at his home 1031 Vine street, age 68 years. Mr. Fuersich was born on July 9, 1856, at Alsace, Indiana. He came to Hamilton 35 years ago. For a number of years he was employed at the Foundry Co. He was a member of St. Stephen's Church and the Men's Society of the church. He is survived by a widow, two sons, Bernard, Hamilton; Louis, Elmwood, Ohio; four daughters, Mrs. Rose FLUM, Mrs. Edward HUENTELMAN, Matilda and Teresa; one brother in Batesville, Indiana, four brothers in Los Angeles, two sisters in Los Angeles and seven grand-children, also a large circle of friends. Funeral services will be held at the home Thursday at 8:30 a.m., at St. Stephen's Church at 9 a.m. Interment in St. Stephen's cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday afternoon and evening.

Louis J. Fuersich, 82, Drake Hospital, Cincinnati, died Friday at 5:45 p.m. in the Dayton Memorial Hospital of complication. He had been in ill health for three months and serious the last two months. He was born in Batesville, Indiana, August 19, 1884, a son of George and Philomena Alf Fuersich and received his education in St. Stephen School, Hamilton. He married Della STEIN in St. Stephen Church in 1913 and she preceded him in death in 1929. Mr. Fuersich was employed as a molder at the Peerles Foundry and and retired 25 years ago. He leaves five sons, George, Robert and William Fuersich, all of Cincinnati, Paul Fuersich, Hamilton, and Edward Fuersich, Hackettstown, N.J.; two daughters, Mrs. Laverne HAZARD and Mrs. Rosemary CRANK, both of Hamilton; two sisters, Mrs. Jake NEWMAN and Miss Theresa Fuersich, both of Hamilton; 15 granchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and other relatives. Services will be held Tuesday at 9 a.m. in the Cahill and sons funeral Home 229 Dayton St. with Requiem High Mass in St. Stephen church at 9:30. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 6 until 8 p.m.

Mrs. Philomena Fuersich, age 75, widow of George Fuersich, who preceded her in death 10 years ago, died Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock at her home, 1031 Vine street. Mrs. Fuersich's death which followed an illness of a month's duration, was caused by a heart attack. Born October 9, 1859, in St. Peter's, Indiana, Mrs. Fuersich came to Hamilton about 45 years ago and during her residence here had gained a wide circle of friends who will remember her as a devout christian woman whose kindly acts of charity were bestowed upon many. Mrs. Fuersich was during her residence here, a member of St. Stephen's church. She was affiliated with the many societies of the church including the Third Order of St. Francis. Surviving Mrs. Fuersich are two sons, Bernard of Hamilton, Louis of Elmwood, Ohio, four daughters, Mrs. Harry FLUM, Mrs. Jacob NEWMAN, Mrs. Edward HUENTELMAN, and Miss Theresa Fuersich all of Hamilton, one sister, Mrs. Joseph RICKERT, and two brothers, Frank and Anthony ALF, all of Hamilton. Ten granchildren also survive. Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 8:30 o'clock at the home and at 9 o'clock at St. Stephen's with interment in St. Stephen's cemetery. Friends may call Friday afternoon and evening.
