A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. B.A. Goyke, of York township, Sunday.

P.C. Arends had a small tumor removed from the lobe of his right ear a few days ago.

Messrs. Jacobs and Mortensen laid a new floor in the front part of the post office yesterday.

Messrs. Scovill and Danburg did some good cement work for a drain at the bank corner today.

A large delegation from St. Lawrence and vicinity attended the Miller class play last Saturday night.

Mrs. E.M. Smith whose health has been rather poorly of late, was able to be out again the first of this week.

This section was visited by several fine showers last Thursday night and Friday and again on Tuesday night.

Gaylord Starr, who finished a term of school in York township last Friday, had a picnic Wednesday for his pupils.

Allen Harris finished plowing 87 acres for J.A. Loomis with his steam plowing outfit and 50 acres for O.D. Thompson.

Sunday forenoon Rev. Isaac will deliver a sermon on Mother's Day. The baccalaureate sermon will be given in the evening.

Len Breese started in to buy cream for the Carthage creamery Monday. St. Lawrence will soon have three cream stations in operation.

Mrs. C. McPhail arrived home on Monday's evening passenger from Onida, where she had been as a delegate to the W. C. T. U. convention.

P.H. Coquillette, of Miller, called yesterday and ordered an ad put in the News advertising his furniture and millinery business. Read it over.

Henry Hostetter, who sojourned here for several weeks and rented his farm to J.G. McCormack, returned to his home at Gays, Illinois, the latter part of last week.

L.H. Truax had sales bills printed for a sale on May 15. He intends to engage in the furniture business at some point in North Dakota. His sale notice appears in another column.

B.F. Magness, accompanied by his broth, J.M. and Miss Edna Fritts, drove his auto to Onida Sunday to bring Mrs. Magness home, who attended the W.C.T.U. convention there last week.

Hon. C.E. Cunningham, of DesMoines, speaker of the house of representatives in Iowa, was in town last Friday and Saturday and closed a land deal with M.C. Blackmer, who traded him his half section of land in Huges county.

Aberdeen Daily News: C.F. Shephard, engineer, was retained for the summer and for the next school year. Since Mr. Shephard has held his position all of the boilers have been insured and are inspected at stated periods every year. The board was well pleased with the work he had done.

B.F. Magness attended a pulbic sale out at Pierre last Saturday.

Mrs. J. R. Hoover entertained the Ladies Aid society yesterday afternoon.

Mrs. G.H. Kiddle and daughter are visiting for a few days this week in Madison.

J.G. McCormack and family have taken up their residence in the M.D. Harris house.

F.M. Cox is driving the mail wagon over routes one and two this week for R.T. Sedam.

J.B. Kintigh arrived from Minnesota last week Thursday night, having shipped a car load of cattle in for Magness Bros., which arrived on Friday.

C.H. Williams received two Velie automobiles, one of which was for B.F. Magness and the other was purchased by Frank Hudson, of York township.

Miss Edna Fritts, who has been clerking in a store at Huron for the past six months, is here on a few days visit, after which she intends to go to Newcastle, Wyoming on an extended visit.

Mrs. C.E. Sorensen, Miss Hazel Flint and Earl Swab were taken into the Rebekah Lodge Wednesday night. Over 40 members were present. After lodge closed all partook of dainty refreshments.

Mrs. M.D. Harris and daughter, Miss Nina, departed last Friday morning for Fairview, Montana, to take up their residence. Mr. Harris and son, Dwight, left about two weeks ago. May success attend them in their new home. Whenever they decide to return to the Sunshine state their friends here will welcome them.

Mrs. O.V. Breese and baby, of Lincoln, Nebraska, arrived here last Saturday forenoon to visit relations.

J.L. Jones has been suffering with blood poison in his right hand as the result of a wound not healing properly.

About twenty ladies spent the afternoon Wednesday with Mrs. John Danburg, the occasion being her 56th birthday anniversary.

C.C. Porter, who has been station agent at this pace for nearly two years, bought a 75 acre improved farm in Polk county, near Cumberland, Wisconsin. His family will likely leave here next Monday. Their many friends here very much regret to lose this estimable family, but will wish them unbounded success in their new home.

WESSINGTON SPRINGS -- Despondant because of ill health, Miss Marie Vibrant, aged 50, who made her home on a farm in Jerauld county with her brother, Ernest Vibrant, committed suicide by swallowing a quanity of paris green. The dead woman was born in Germany but had lived in the United States a number of years.

MILLER -- Wheat and small grain seeding is practically finished in this section and much of the earliest sown grain is up and doing nicely. The planting of corn will begin soon and a large acreage will be put out than formerly.

GETTYSBURG - A lot has just been purchased here for the new city hall suthorized by the voters, bonds for which, in the sum of $5000, were recently sold to the state. The building will be 24x70 feet in size, two stories high, and of brick.

CRESBARD - Howard Africa, postmaster at Chelsea, and editor of a newspaper there, has been here looking over the local field preparatory to establishing a new newspaper in Cresbard. The first issue is expected to appear soon.

IROQUOIS - The Iroquois Chief has just completed its 25th year here. It was established 25 years ago by J.F. Halladay, former state auditor, who still publishes it. The paper is one of the best known small town weeklies in South Dakota.

HURON - Huron now has a real live commercial club. It is composed of nearly 200 members. The officers are: J.P. Walsh, president; Charles P. Warren, vice president; Thomas H. Campbell, treasurer. A secretary will be named later by the board of directors, which is composed of J.P. Walsh, Charles P. Warren, R.E. Cone, D.G. Medberry, R.O. Grover, B.M. Beach and Alex Urquhart.
