======================== Locals and Personals --------------------- A. L. Fritts was an over-Sunday visitor in Huron. Mrs Chris Lenz [Lanz - csr] departed for Missour Valley, Iowa, last Friday evening. Don Rock arrived home last Saturday night from his sojourn in Canada. C. L. Starr purchased the rest of the flock of sheep --- about 130 head --- of Fritts & Roberts. Mr. and Mrs. Allen Harris and little son were passengers enroute to Mitchell Tuesday evening. B. F Magness left on Sunday's evening passenger enroute to St. Paul, where he cried another horse sale Monday. B. F. Magnes is reported to have shipped one car load of cattle to Chicago last Saturday and two car loads to Nevada, Iowa. C. H. Webber and family, and a brother of R. W. Ross from Savannah, Ill, are here visiting at the Ross home, north of town. Mrs. O. V. Breese shipped her household goods to Lincoln, Neb., last Saturday, and intends to depart for that city next Monday. Albert Thompson left on Tuesday's evening passenger enroute to South Omaha, Neb., in response to a telegram announcing the death of his father. Mrs. Lizzie Townly, of Mattoon, Ill., who had been visiting at the home of her sister, Mrs. T. W. Wilson, and family, returned home on Sunday's morning passenger. O. O. Ford received a message from Canton that his wife was threatened with pneumonia. He departed on the Sunday ---------- passenger and wired back that she was better. Stout rejoice over the arrival of a son born to them Monday. It's Grandpa Pitzer now. Mrs Jas. Hostetter's sister, of Matton, Ill., who visited here for several weeks, departed for her home yesterday morning. L. Paisley had a fine day for his sale Monday. A fair-sized crowd was in attendance and cattle and hogs sold at good prices. Horses, machinery and implements did not bring very high prices. ======================== |
======================== DAKOTA STATE NEWS --------------- MILLER---Ping Brothers, north of town, have realized a profit of $2000 on a bunch
of calves they shipped from St. Paul last April, besides nearly $1000 on other
cattle bought here at the time. Many others in this vicinity have made big money
on cattle shipped in last spring that have only eaten native grass since. Many
are already talking of going into that business next spring if they can find
the cattle in the markets. HURON---The dental office of Dr. S. W. Ullem was entered by thieves last evening and gold valued between $40 and $50 was stolen. The robbery was not discovered till morning, giving the robbers ample time to make their escape from town. The office of Dr. M. E Walton was also broken into, but as all of Dr Walton's valuable metals were kept in safety deposit, nothing was stolen. No trace of the men has been found. REDFIELD---At an auction sale of livestock on the farm of William Arnett, seven miles west of Redfield, a graded Holstein cow sold for $100, after spirited bidding The cow last March produced 73 pounds of butter in 31 days. JUDGE BOTTOM REFUSES TO OVERRULE THE BOARD FAULKTON, S.D. --- Sept. 20.---John C. Blanck, of Wecota, yesterday appeard in court
here before Circuit Judge Boom asking that a writ of mandamus be issued against
the board of county commissioners of Faulk county, compelling them to review
his application for a license to sell liquor at Wecota. This application, together
with several others, was refused at a meeting of the board last July and
as a result Faulk county is now dry. Judge Bottum sustaining the action of the
commissioners. ======================== |
