Town native, run over by car,
killed
Funeral arrangements have been set for
Saturday afternoon for a 21-year-old Bloomsburg native
killed early Wednesday morning when run over by an
automobile near his Klinesgrove home.
Gary Glen Fritz of Danville R. D. 6, was killed at
approximately 2:25 Wednesday morning when run over by a car,
police said, operated by 26-year-old Charles Kovaschetz of
the 400 block of Railroad st., Danville.
LYING ON ROADWAY
Fritz was reportedly lying on the roadway at the time of the
mishap, but state police say they have no indication as to
why.
Northumberland County deputy coroner Ernest Korten, Jr.
attributed death to a fractured skull and multiple injuries.
It was reported the automobile's wheels passed over Fritz'
head and body. Korten pronounced Fritz dead at the scene of
the accident
The accident occurred on Legislative Route 49040, the
Riverside-Danville roadway in Rush township, about two miles
from Fritz' residence.
The victim's father said Fritz was diabetic,
but not under treatment, and said he had no idea why the young man
would be lying on the roadway.
Korten said there appeared to be no evidence of foul play at the
scene.
Kovaschetz reportedly told police that he came upon Fritz lying in
the center of the highway and was unable to avoid striking him.
According to news sources at the scene, Kovaschetz was not aware at
first that his car had struck a human. Kovaschetz was traveling west
at the time.
EN ROUTE HOME
According to police, the accident occurred in an area of the
legislative route with numerous curves, and the weather was rainy and
misty at the time of the incident.
Fritz was reportedly in the area to visit his girlfriend, and
apparently on his way home when the accident occurred.
