Below is a collection of civil birth records which were registered in County Donegal, Ireland. Civil registration of births, deaths and marriages only began in 1864 in Ireland, and did not really catch on until the late 1860's. This means that many people simply do not appear in the records, even though they should. That's what makes genealogy in Ireland such a detective's game!Note: spelling of names and places was unreliable, to say the least - partly due to translations from Gaelic into English. For example, if your ancestor was John Hanlen, don't ignore a record for Sean Hanlon: it could well be him!
