Military service and pension record of Benjamin Harney, 3d IN Calv., Co. F., Civil War, indicates he was born 24 July (or 27 May) 1839. (He used the initial F. and sometimes M.) Benjamin married Leander "Anna" Adams, Oct 1874, at Anderson, Madison co., Indiana. Record lost when courthouse burned down. They had a child, Alma, born about the summer of 1877. Benjamin died 4/9/32, a widow, and is buried at Summitville, IN. His "only heir" is a niece, Mrs. Olive Connely. Soldiers' Home record, Leavenworth, Kansas, mentions his brother Thomas Harney, of Lexington, Missouri. 1900, 1910, & 1920 Thomas L. Harney, Lexington, MO, & wife Minnie. No children. *John Harney may have died in 1871. Probate records for Winchester, Randolph Co. Indiana, show that minor children of John Harney, deceased, were granted guardianship to Ephraim Fahnestock (Monday, 23 Oct 1871, Book 9-182, Film 1,666652). Children were not named. Further research is necessary.
