Watson

There are two baptisms for William Reid recorded on 1 April 1798 and 3 April 1798 with parents William Reid and Margaret Wats (Watt). I can’t find a marriage for them. This may be why William Watson has an alias of Reid.

1 Margaret Watson (Wats, Watt) + William Reid

1.1 William Watson (aka Reid) b. 1795 Alford ABD bap. 1798 Alford ABD m. Grizel (Grace) Johnstone d. 30 March 1841 buried at Sydney Burial Ground. A Cobbler, living in Ardgathon ABD, convicted of forgery by the Aberdeen Assizes on 19 September 1816 and transported for 14 years to New South Wales in 1817 on Lord Eldon. In New South Wales he lived in the Windsor area. He is recorded as a shoemaker on his daughter Martha’s death certificate.

1.1.1 Mary Watson b. 3 September 1823 Windsor NSW bap. 27 July 1829 Scots Church Portland Head NSW m. 6 March 1843 Daniel Cunningham, Sydney NSW d. 28 December 1852 Sydney NSW.

1.1.2 Martha Watson b. 18 November 1825 Windsor NSW bap. 27 July 1829 Scots Church Portland Head NSW m. 30 October 1847 Cannell (William Cornelius) Hensby St Leonards NSW St Thomas Church (now in North Sydney) d. 14 July 1896 Chatswood NSW buried in Gore Hill Cemetery.

1.2 Robert Reid bap. 26 February 1800 Alford ABD.

Many thanks to Violet Fredburg, Jan Kerrigan and Marie Ryan  for their research into William Watson and Grizel Johnstone.
