Kenneth Jarboe Death Due To
Leaking Gas
Body returned and funeral
services held Monday
The body of Kenneth Jarboe, 24, was returned to Tell City
from Honolulu Saturday. Funeral
services were held at 2 pm Monday at the First United church of Christ. The Rev. H. G. Lippert, church pastor,
officiated. Burial was in Greenwood
cemetery. Active Navy personnel from
the U.S. Navy recruiting station in Evansville served as pallbearers and a
color guard at the funeral service.
Word of his death was sent to his family Sunday, Jan 18 by the U.S.
Navy.
Jarboe, a member of the U.S. Navy band stationed at Pearl
Harbor Naval Base, died Saturday, Jan 17 of asphyxiation from gas fumes in the
home of his close friends, Mr. and Mrs. Fred K. Stratton. Navyman Stratton served as the official
escort from the Hawaiian Islands to Tell City.
The body was at Finch funeral home until noon Monday.
Stratton said that Kenneth had been teaching night classes
in English at the naval base in Honolulu on weekends. He usually spent the night in their home. He said the leaking gas from a refrigerater
would have also asphyxiated him and Mrs. Stratton if it hadn’t been for a door
separating the sleeping quarters. Stratton
is from Cincinnati. He and Kenneth have
been friends since they entered the Navy service nearly two years ago. They attended Navy music school together in
Washington D.C. and were separated only about six weeks during their transfer
to Pearl Harbor.

Thomas Meade
Dies Under House
Trailer
Thomas G. Meade, 19, of 3088 1/2 Road F died Saturday
afternoon as a house trailer under which he was working slipped off its jack
and crushed him.
He was found between a half and three-quarters of an hour
after the accident happened at the Trailer Home Rental & Sales Co., 2485
U.S. Highway 6-50.
Meade, an employe for the past three weeks at the trailer
firm, had taken one wheel off the trailer, and failed to place a block behind
the other wheel. The trailer slipped
back about a foot and came off the jack, pinning his body to the ground.
According to fellow employes, the accident happened about 3
p.m. when Meade went into the yard to take the wheel and tire off the trailer.
Jim Houde, who was plastering and putting up a sign on the
premises, went through the yard to get lumber for a scaffold and saw what had
happened.
A fire department rescue squad composed of Gene Thye, Hoyt
Brown and Wes Painter worked over Meade for about an hour, using four tanks of
oxygen and sending for another which was partially used. A physician pronounced Meade dead. The coroner's office investigated and termed
the death accidental.
Meade is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Meade;
a brother, Conrad Meade; and a sister, Huella Mason, all of this area. Services are pending at the Martin Mortuary.

Submitter's Notes:
* July 6,
1959, is the date penciled on the
obituary I was given. However, the 6th
is in conflict with Ohio, Deaths, 1908-1932, 1938-1944, & 1958-2007 that
gives his date of death as July 13, 1959.
July 13 is a Monday which is his day of death in the first paragraph of
this obituary. Perhaps the correct
obituary date was July 16? Or perhaps
the Ohio Death Index was wrong. Either
way, there is a conflict.

John W. Young was born
on May 29, 1870, near Lewisville, Ohio.
He was a son of Fred and Eva Pfeiffer Young and was the last surviving
member of a family of eight children.
He passed away at the home of his niece and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Wesley
Weber, on Lewisville, Route 2, on October 13, 1959. At the time of death he was 89 years, four months and sixteen
days of age.
In younger manhood he spent
the winters in Southern states because of ill health. In 1924 he married Zella Baxter, of Joelton, Tennessee, and
established his home there. She preceded
him in death in 1932. In 1934 he married
Salome Buchli who passed away on May 18 of this year [1959].
In June he was brought back
to Ohio by nieces and nephews who faithfully cared for him until the end.
In childhood he was
baptized and confirmed into the Evangelical and Reformed faith and became a
faithful Christian, teaching a men's Bible class for many years. In spite of his advanced years, he was
interested in world-wide news, sports and the activities of those dear to him.
Johannes (John) Jung/Young was born on May 29, 1870. This comes from the German Church records
translated by Dr. Shirley Harmon. There
is no information regarding baptism in these records.
Funeral services were
conducted by Rev. Varns at the Lewisville Church, of which he was a member, on
October 17th. He was laid to rest in
the chruch cemetery.
Those who loved him will
remember his humble faith and kind disposition.
Like a ship that's lost its
anchor
and drifts gently out to
sea;
So our dear one just slept
away,
To calm eternity.
.
The family wishes to thank all those who helped in any way and those
who sent floral offerings. We shall
always be grateful. NIECES and NEPHEWS
