Ackerman, Juanita K. Ackerman nee Buchanan

Monroe County Beacon, Woodsfield, Ohio, dated, December 20, 1973

       Mrs. Juanita K. Ackerman, 27, of 211 Prior Road, Pataskala, Ohio, died Wednesday morning, December 12, 1973, in Mt. Carmel East Hospital, Columbus, following an illness.

       She was born in Parkersburg, West Virginia, September 7, 1946, the daughter of John and Hazel Holiday Buchanan.

       Mrs. Ackerman was a member of the First Baptist Church, at Etna.

       Surviving are her husband, Jimmy Ackerman; one son, Jimmy Travis Ackerman, of the home; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Buchanan, of Newark, and two brothers, Edsel Buchanan, of Newark and Glen Archer, of Reader, West Virginia.

       Funeral services were held Saturday morning at ten o’clock in the First Baptist Church at Etna, with Rev. Danny Smith officiating. Graveside services and burial were at the Middle Church Cemetery, near Lewisville, Saturday afternoon at two o’clock, with the Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home of Newark in charge.

 

Bailey, Delbert E. Bailey

        NEW  CUMBERLAND -- Services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Turley Funeral Home here for Delbert Eugene Bailey, 43, of RD 2.

        He died Saturday afternoon at Weirton General Hospital after a long illness.

        A native of New Cumberland, Mr. Bailey was born Aug. 7, 1930, a son of Raymond L. Bailey and Florence Holsinger Bailey.  He was a retired driver for the Pasco Distributing Co. of New Cumberland.  He attended the United Presbyterian Church.

        He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Bonnie Cronin Bailey, at home; a daughter, Mrs. Richard (Elizabeth) Jones of New Cumberland; five sisters, Mrs. Edith Brancazio and Mrs. Rudy (Doloris) Rosnick of Weirton, Mrs. Lillian Nixon of Toronto, Mrs. Thomas (Rose) LeMasters of New Cumberland and Mrs. Wayne (Donna) Burbridge of Windham, Ohio; three brothers, John J. Bailey of RD 2, Eddie Bailey and Kenneth Bailey of Weirton; and two grandchildren.

        The Rev. Edward Brown will conduct the Tuesday service.  Burial will be in New Cumberland Cemetery.

        Friends may call at the funeral home today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

 

Baker, Carolyn Baker, nee Bigley

        Mrs. Caroline* Bigley Baker, 29, died Friday morning in Denver General Hospital, Denver, Colo.

        She was born Dec. 21, 1944 near Lebanon, Monroe County, a daughter of William and Hattie A. Johnson Bigley.  One son survives, Robert, Denver.  Surviving are her parents, Lower Salem Rt. 2; and four brothers, Lester W. Bigley, Marietta; Leonard Bigley, Bloomfield, New Mexico; Kelsey Bigley, Denver, and Larry Dean Bigley, Lower Salem Rt. 2.

        Mrs. Baker had been employed at the Marietta Laundry before going to Denver in July of 1973.  Arrangements are in charge of the Doudna & McClure Funeral Home and are incomplete.

        BESSEY - In Porterville, Feb. 18, 1973, Lura E. Bessey, 87, native of Nebraska and resident of the Porterville-Strathmore area for 54 years. Mother of Roscoe, Ronald, Gerald, Corlis, Jay and Ray Bessey, Elaine Frodsham, Nadine Hardaway, and Dorene Landers; sister of Mrs. Grace Oliveria and Mrs. Ethel Ossinger; grandmother of 23; and great-grandmother of 25. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20, in the Myers chapel with Revs.  Paul Lengenecker and Floyd Cagle officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

 

Betts, Guy H. Betts

       Guy H. Betts, 65, of 3892 Stimson Rd., Barberton, O. passed away Sat. June 16, 1973, in Akron General Medical Center.

       A native of Monroe Co., he lived in the Akron area 46 yrs., and was a native of Adoniram Lodge 517, F. & A.M., 7 the Acacia Club.

       Mr. Betts was a retired B. F. Goodrich pipe shop foreman. At Goodrich, he was a member of the Foreman’s Club and the 20-Year Club.

       Surviving are his wife, Leona V. Betts; three daughters, Mrs. James (Janice) Brock, of Bath, O., Mrs. Dennis (Karen) Richards, of Copley, O. and Miss Debra Betts, of the home; 1 grandson, Terry Brock, of Bath; 4 brothers, Lawrence Betts, of Shelby, Theodore Betts, of Tiro, O., Albert Taylor, of Bucyrus, and Clarence Taylor, of Mount Gilead; and 3 sisters, Mrs. Sarah Graham & Mrs. Barbara Kurzen, of Bucyrus, & Mrs. Rose Loomis, of LaMesa, California.

       Services were held Tuesday afternoon, June 19th, at three o’clock, in the Billow Fairlawn Chapel, with Rev. Jean A. Saylor officiating. Interment was in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

MRS.  PAULINE  BOGONI

        Mrs. Pauline* (Fearing) Bogoni, 47, 5708 W. Bogard Rd., Castalia, died this morning at her residence after an extended illness.

        She was life-long resident of the Sandusky area.

        She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Sandusky.

        Surviving are her husband, Frank, Sr., whom she married in April 1947; two sons, Frank, Jr., Castalia, and Richard, at home; a daughter, Mrs. Ray (Linda) Hebert, Sandusky; four grandchildren; her mother, Mrs. Ethel Fearing; a sister, Mrs. Juanita Brugnone, Bellevue; three brothers, Herman, Fred and Roger Fearing, all of Sandusky, nieces and nephews.

        She was preceded in death by her father, Francis Fearing, in October 1970.

        Friends may call after 7 p.m. Saturday at the David Suitor Funeral Home.  The body will be taken to Zion Lutheran Church Monday morning at 9 a.m. to lie in state.  Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Richard Bauerle officiating.  Burial is to be in Calvary Cemetery.

Bohannon, Opal Bohannon, nee Jessie “Opal” McGrew

Bohannon     Rites     Held

        Services were held Monday at Farley Marwood Hill Chapel, Indianapolis, for Mrs. Opal Bohannon, 64, 249 W. Taylor St., who died Friday at Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis, where she had been a patient three weeks.  She had been ill one month.

        Burial was in an Indianapolis cemetery.

        Mrs. Bohannon was a member of the West Street United Methodist Church and a circle leader of the United Methodist Women of the church.

        Surviving with three daughters of Indianapolis and a son of Portland, Ore. are eight brothers and sisters, Edward McGrew and Mrs. Evelyn Baxter, Shelbyville, Mrs. Norman (Louise) Mullen, Fairland, Francis McGrew, Geneva, John McGrew, New Hampshire, Mrs. Floyd (Mary) McMichael, Columbus, Mrs. Tom (Doris) Winterrowd, Des Moines, Iowa, and Mrs. Thurston (Sue) Shirley, Indianapolis.

 

Bonam, Clarence D. Bonam

Clarence D. Bonam ,59, Woodsfield died Monday in Barnesville Hospital.He was born Novemebr 11,1913 in Woodsfield ,the son of the late Henry and Caroline Nalley Bonam.

Survivng are a brother ,Charles Bonam of Wooster;two sisters,Mrs. Mary Cline of New Matamoras and Mrs. Grace Hooper of Woodsfield.

Friends are being received at the Bauer and Turner Funeral Home Woodsfield ,where services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Plainview Cemetyery.----died July 9,1973

 

Britton, Thoburn Britton

Saturday 28 April 1973

Quaker City - Funeral services for Thoburn Britton, 78, Senecaville, R.D. 1, a Noble Co resident will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in Eberle Funeral Home here with Evan. McKinley Bates officiating.  Burial will be in Friends Cemetery here.  Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday.  Donations in memory of Mr Britton may be made to the heart fund.

Mr Britton died Thursday April 26, 1973 at a Cambridge hospital where he had been a patient since November 1972.  Born near Kennonsburg, March 28, 1895 he was a son of the late Mark and Emma Smallwood Britton.

Mr Britton leaves his wife, May Danford Britton whom he married Sept 18, 1915; two daughters Mrs Dale (Verna) Webster, Quaker City and Mrs Robert (Lela) Mills, Mansfield, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.  Two brothers and two sisters are deceased.

 

Brown, Gerald D. Brown

        Gerald D. Brown, 24, 324 Orange St., died Saturday at his residence.

        The son of John D. and Fern (Moffett) Brown, he was born in Ashland Dec. 13, 1948.  He was married April 18, 1970, to Peggy Powers, who survives.

        Survivors also include two daughters:  Penny Jo and Pamela Jean, both at home; his parents; two sisters, Marilyn Stumbaugh of Ashland and Rosetta Brown, at home; and two brothers, Clarence of Lafayette, Colo., and James of Fort Campbell, Ky.

        He had attended the Church of Christ and was employed at the A.L. Garber Co.  He served with the Navy for four years.

        Funeral service will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at Gilbert Funeral Home with Rev. Jack Gladwell officiating.  Burial will be in Ashland County Memorial Park.

        Visiting hours will be tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

 

Brownfield, Fred O. Brownfield

THORNVILLE – Funeral services for Fred O. Brownfield, 83, Thornville, native of the Woodsfield area, will be held at 2 p. m. Thursday in Charles R. Boring Funeral Home here with Rev. Edwin Lewis officiating.  Burial will be in Lutheran Reform Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p. m. today.

Mr. Brownfield died early Monday evening (April 16, 1973) in Licking County Memorial Hospital, following a lengthy illness.

Born March 18, 1890 near Woodsfield, he was a son of the late Stephen and Lena Wells Brownfield.  He was a veteran of World War I, a retired farmer and a member of Woodsfield Church of Christ, Eagles Lodge, Newark and American Legion Post 342, Thornville.

Mr. Brownfield leaves his wife, the former Paula Newhart; three daughters, Mrs. Ada Gallagher, Fairview, Mrs. Marjorie Donovan, Columbus and Mrs. Bonnie McCall, Cleveland; two sons, Fred Jr. of New Lexington and Steve of Thornville; 10 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Thomas of Newark.

 

Brownfield, William Brownfield

CADIZ – William Brownfield, 64, Cadiz R. D. 4, died Sunday afternoon (March 25, 1973) in his home.  A lineman for the General Telephone Co, he was born in Monroe County, Nov. 3, 1908, son of Kate Powell Brownfield, Barnesville, and the late Samuel Brownfield.  He was a member of Cadiz Eagles.

In addition to his mother, Mr. Brownfield leaves his wife, the former Gladys Mooreland; two sons, Tom of Massillon and William of St. Louis, Mo.; three grandchildren; and four sisters, Mrs. Adelia Graham, Mrs. Mary Bowen, Miss Gladys Brownfield and Mrs. Josephine Lucas, all of Barnesville.  One brother, Raymond, is deceased.

Friends may call at Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home here after 2 p. m. Tuesday.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. Wednesday in the funeral home with Evan Kenneth Frazier officiating.  Burial will be in Holly Memorial Gardens, near Cadiz.

 

Bunting, Thomas O. Bunting

       Thomas O. Bunting, 67, resident of Dewey Ave., Barnesville, died January 15th at 4:10 A.M. at Barnesville Hospital. Born in Calais November 30, 1905, he was the son of John and Lucetta Morris Bunting.

       He was a retired 30 year employe of the B & O Railroad and a member of the VFW.

       Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Joan Gora of Cleveland; two sons, James T. of Barnesville; Francis in Germany; four sisters, Mrs. Ray (Maggie) McCort, Mrs. Bernard (Hazel) Carpenter, Mrs. Glen (Rose) Huntsman, all of Barnesville; Mrs. Carol (Sylvia) Pierce of Brunswick, Ohio; four brothers, Wilbert, Elmer, Lawrence and Roy, all of Barnesville; nine grandchildren and one great grandchild.

       He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.

       The remains were taken to the Campbell & Plumly Funeral Home on North Chestnut Street where friends were received. Services were held Wednesday, January 17th at 1 P.M., conducted by Evangelist James W. Gallagher and Evangelist Warren Kinney.

       Burial was in Crestview Cemetery.

 

Cain, Wanda Lee Cain nee Christman

Monroe County Beacon, Woodsfield, Ohio, dated, May 24, 1973

       Mrs. Wanda Lee Cain, 39, of Belmont, Route 1, died Monday morning, May 14, 1973 at 9:40 o’clock, in Barnesville Hospital.

       She was born in Monroe County, July 16, 1933, a daughter of Raymond and Lela Betts Christman, of Barnesville.

       Mrs. Cain was a member of the Bethesda South Main Street Church of Christ and the Chestnut Twig of Barnesville Hospital.

       Surviving are her parents; her husband, Glenn Cain; three daughters, Debra, Beverly and Sheryl, and two sons, Larry and Bradley, all of the home; one sister, Mrs. Danny Watson of Barnesville, and one brother Richard Christman, of Barnesville, Route 1.

       Two brothers, Ralph and Charles preceded her in death.

       Services were held Thursday afternoon at one o’clock in the Kelly-Kemp Funeral Home at Bethesda. Burial was in Ebenezer Cemetery, Bethesda.

 

Callahan, Paul L. Callahan

Paul  Callahan,  Short  Illness

        Services for Paul L. Callahan, 63, of 2025 Sixteenth st. SW, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Kenmore Church of the Nazarene.  Friends may call at the Schlup funeral home anytime after 7 p.m. tonight and Tuesday afternoon and evening.  Burial will be in Greenlawn cemetery.

        Mr. Callahan died Saturday in General Medical Center after a short illness.  Born in Warsaw, O., he lived in Akron most of his life.  He retired in 1969 from Kenmore High School where he taught school 32 years.  He served as a security guard for the Akron Board of Education for four years.

        Mr. Callahan graudated [sic] from Stow High School, Kent State University, and did post graduate work at Wittenberg College.  He belonged to the Kenmore Church of the Nazarene, the Retired Teachers Association, Ohio Education Association, and the Northeast Ohio Teachers Association.

        Mr. Callahan leaves his wife, Wilda, sons Larry and Jimmie, Stow; Stephen, U.S. Navy in Norfolk, Va.; brother, Earl Kennon, Ft. Lauderdale, and six grandchildren.

Jr., of Columbus.  Preceded in death by daughter, Jacqueline Neva Carskadon;** daughters, Mrs. Douglas (Beveraly) [sic--Beverly] Ball, of Columbus, Mrs. Donna Butt of Columbus,  Mrs. Graig (Anita) Anderson of Puyallup, Washington; sister, Mrs. Karl Deibel of Columbus; 11 grandchildren.

        Friends may call at the WEIR-AREND  FUNERAL  HOME, 4221 N. High St. Monday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. where service will be held Tuesday 1:30 p.m.  Interment Sunset Cemetery.  Friends who wish may contribute to the Columbus Cancer Clinic and the Franklin County Heart Fund.

**Submitter's Note:  I think the writer of this obituary left out the words "SURVIVED BY" before the rest of the family listed here.  Although I do not know about everyone as I write this note in 2014, I do know that her daughter Donna Butt did not die until March 24, 1991, her daughter Anita Anderson May 16, 1995, and her sister Mrs. Karl (Thelma) Deibel on January 27, 1979.  They did not precede her in death.

        Anna E. Christman, 79, of 744 Willow St., Ontario, Oct. 30, at Upland Convalescent Hospital.  A homemaker, she was a native of Baker, Ore., and an Ontario resident 46 years.  Member of Mountain View Free Methodist Church, Upland.  Survived by two daughters, Mrs. Ella Metzger, Ontario, and Mrs. Nella Scudder, Carmichael; a son, Lloyd Christman, Camarillo; a sister, Mrs. Addie Bailey, Spokane, Wash.; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.  Services 2 p.m. Friday at Richardson-Peterson Chapel.  Entombment Bellevue Mausoleum.  Friends may call this evening from 6 until 9 p.m. at Richardson-Peterson Mortuary.  The Rev. Herbert L. Newland of the Mountain View Free Methodist Church, Upland will officiate.  Those who wish may make contributions to the Mountain View Free Methodist Church Building Fund, 1020 W.         BERNARD J., age 70, of Central Ave., Bolivar, Ohio, died Friday morning at Doctor's Hospital after a long illness.  Resident for 35 years.  Retired Timken Roller Bearing Employee.  Member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Bolivar; Caldwell Masonic Lodge of Bolivar; Nazir Grotto, Canton; Tadmor Shrine, Akron; and the Scottish Rite, Canton.  Post Master of the Bolivar Lodge.  His wife Hazel died three years ago.  One son John Christman of Bolivar, two daughters, Mrs. Arthur (Delores) Dzigorski of Cuppertina, Calif. and Mrs. Edward (Betty) Morgan of Boardman, Ohio,  Four brothers, Irvle Christman of East Sparta, Walter, Benlullum* and Phil Christman and one sister, Florence Newhardt all of Monroe County.  Services in Lebold Funeral Home at 12:45 p.m. Sunday with Pastor George Hautala officiating.  Burial in Ft. Laurens Cemetery.  Calling hours 2-4 and 7-9 Saturday.  Masonic Lodge services 8:00 P.m. Saturday.

        BOLIVAR -- Funeral services will be at 12:45 p.m. Sunday in Liebold funeral home for Bernard J. Christman, 70, of Central Ave., who died Friday in Doctor's Hospital, Perry Township, following a long illness.

        Survivors include a son and two daughters.  His wife, Hazel, died in 1970.

       Burial in Fort Laurens Cemetery.  Callers today 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.  Masonic service 8 tonight..

 

Close, Jacob P. Close

        Jacob P. Close, 94, Newport Rt. 1, died at 2 a.m. today*  in Selby General Hospital.

        He was born Sept. 13,  1878, in Newport Twp., a son of the late Daniel and Emma Cooper Close.

        On April 13, 1917, he married Effie Herlan, who died Feb. 4, 1943.  One daughter survives, Doris Close of the home.  One brother, Leonard J. Close and five sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Rice, Mrs. Lulu Lewis, Mrs. Rhoda Pease, Mrs. Ethel Huffman and Mrs. Alberta Poole, preceded him in death.

        Mr. Close was a retired farmer and oil field worker.

        Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Doudna & McClure Funeral Home.  Burial will be in Valley Cemetery.  Friends may call at the funeral home.

DEATHS -- Mrs.   John    V.   Coen.

        Mrs. Gladys E. Coen, 69, formerly of 1941 Weston Ave., died of a heart ailment at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Volney Manor Nursing Home after a five-year illness.

        Mrs. Coen was born May 12, 1904, in Youngstown, a daughter of Dallas H. and Maude Evans Morris.  She had lived in California and returned here five years ago.  She was a member of First Baptist Temple.  Her husband, John V., to whom she was married in 1931, died in 1962.

        She leaves two aunts, Mrs. Alice Johnston of Youngstown and Mrs. Elsie Wilfong of Tampa, Fla.

        Private funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Davis-Velker Funeral Home.  There are no calling hours.

        Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Walter A. Frey Funeral Home, Lorain, for Mrs. Patricia Runion Copeland, 54, of 324 Kentucky Ave., Lorain, formerly of East Liverpool, who was pronounced dead of a heart attack at 11:55 p.m. Wednesday in South Side Hospital.

        Mrs. Copeland was born June 2, 1919 in East Liverpool, a daughter of James E. and Alice E. Cronin Runion.  She was a receptionist for Dr. Paul Pastuchiw and was a member of the Disciples of Christ Church, Alliance.

        She leaves her husband, George E.; two sons, James M. of Mentor, and Jack F. of Bremerton, Wash.; two daughters, Mrs. Patricia Boyle of Bremerton and Miss Shawn Copeland of Lorain; two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Williams of Sebring and Mrs. Phyllis Modarelli of Struthers, and four grandchildren.

        Friends may call from 2 to 4 and from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

        Services will be conducted Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester for Mrs. Lottie Smith Cronin, 77, of 512 5th St., Chester.

        She died Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in Monongalia General Hospital in Morgantown. She was visiting a daughter when she became ill. She had been failing since May.

        A native of Western Ohio, she was born Nov. 9, 1895, a daughter of William Applegate and Melissa Crawford Applegate. She retired in 1946 from the Homer Laughlin China Co. She had resided in the Chester area virtually her lifetime. Her husband, Howard A. Cronin, died Oct. 10, 1947.

        Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Lee (Florence) Haney of Chester and Mrs. Newton (Catherine) Atkinson of Osage, W. VA.; three sons, Harold A. Cronin Jr. of New Cumberland, Edward E. Cronin of East Liverpool and Hunter L Cronin of Charleston, S. C.; a sister, Mrs. Floyd Burwell , and a brother, Arthur Applegate, both of Michigan. 18 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

        The Rev. Willard C. Billica of the Chester First Presbyterian Church will conduct the Tuesday services. Burial will be in Shadow Lawn Memory Gardens, Newell.

        Friends may call at the chapel this afternoon and tonight and Tuesday up to the time of service.

        OAKWOOD  (CNS) -- William C. Cronkhite, 83, of Oakwood died at 5:30 p.m. Thursday (Aug. 9, 1973) at Lake View Memorial Hospital in Danville where he had been a patient for four days.

        He was born March 3, 1890, in Homer, the son of Marion F. and Mary Helen Stearns Cronkhite.  He married Emma Jane Kincade* March 25, 1911, in Danville.  She died Nov. 5, 1970.  He also was preceded in death by three brothers and five sisters.

        Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Ivan (Thelma) Curry of Clinton, Ind., Mrs. Kenneth (Waneta) Steenberger of Oakwood, and Mrs. Jack (Wilma) Thomas of Danville, nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

        He had worked as a coal miner, an iceman, and a laundromat attendant.  He was a member and 50 year elder of the Oakwood Christian Church.

        Services will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the Oakwood Christian Church.  The Rev. George Desmond will officiate and burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.  Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p. m. Friday at the Johnson Funeral Home in Oakwood.

        Francis Cubberley, 58, of 2072 Olive St., Lakewood, Ohio died Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at Lakewood Hospital after becoming ill suddenly on his way home from work. He was assistant superintendent of the sewage disposal plant at Oakwood, where he had resided the last 10 years. Previous to that time, he had been a jiggerman at the Homer Laughlin China Co. and operator at the municipal sewage disposal plant here. Mr. Cubberley was born Sept. 8, 1914, in Newell, a son of Harry Cubberley and Louise Bergin Cubberley. He was a member of the Grace Presbyterian Church in Lakewood.

        Survivors include his widow, Loretta Bowers Cubberley, at home; three sons, William Cubberley of Spencer, W. Va., and Richard Cubberley and Robert Cubberley, both at home; a daughter, Mrs. Larry (Linda) Voglein of Lakewood; a sister, Mrs. Grace McCall of Newell, and one grandchild.

        Services will be held at the Grace Presbyterian Church in Lakewood by the Rev. Roy Schutz at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Services also will be held at the Martin Funeral Home here Monday at 1 p.m. by Rev. Schutz. Burial will be in Locust Hill Cemetery, Chester.         Services for Clifford Denney will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Charles Mannhardt officiating.  Burial will be in Wymore Cemetery.

        SALINEVILLE -- George M. DeNoon, 73, of RD 3, a retired farmer, died Friday at 3:45 p.m. in Community Hospital East at Salem.

        Born at New Somerset Nov. 29, 1899, he was the son of Sidney and Alice Beatty DeNoon.

        Surviving are his widow, Bertha Dowdell DeNoon, four sons, Fred of Carrollton, Howard of Salineville and Carl and William of Begholz; two daughters, Mrs. Georgia Shepherd and Mrs. Mary Champion of Bergholz; two brothers, Lloyd and Donald of East Liverpool; 17 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

        Services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Manning Funeral Home in charge of Rev. Roger Maze.  Burial will be in Pine Grove Ridge Cemetery.

        He was born in Tyler County, W. Va., May 9, 1882, a son of L.S. and Alice DeNoon.  He has resided most of his life in the East Liverpool area.  His wife, Mrs. Caroline DeNoon, died Jan. 8, 1970.

        Survivors include three brothers, George DeNoon of Salineville and Lloyd and Donald DeNoon, both of East Liverpool.

        Charles J. Dierke, 83, of 923 Peckham st., died Saturday at St. Thomas Hospital after a short illness.

        Born in West Virginia, he lived in Akron most of his life and was a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ.

        He retired in 1955 after more than 30 years as a carpenter at B.F. Goodrich.

        He leaves his wife, Alma M.; daughter, Mrs. Eleanor Mewder, Cuyahoga Falls; son, Dean Myers, Hillsboro, O.; sisters Mrs. Martha Perry, Wheeling, W. Va., and Mrs. Ella Gehring, New Martinsville, W. Va.; brothers William and Edward Siegenthaler, both of Akron; and five granddaughters.

        Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Hennessy funeral home.  Burial will be in Rose Hill cemetery.

        She was born Sept. 16, 1922, at Ripley, daughter of the late Hal and Kate Hunt Davis.  Mrs. Dillon was named as the "Polio Mother of the Year” in 1957.

       Mrs. Charlene Claus Drake, 50, of the Moose Ridge Road, died Saturday afternoon, March 31, 1973, about three o'clock at her home, after an extended illness.
       She was born in Miltonsburg, November 17, 1922, the daughter of Frank and Estella Schroder Claus.
       Mrs. Drake owned and operated a beauty shoppe in Woodsfield for several years.
       Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Larry (Cheryl) Keylor and two grandchildren, of the home, and one brother, Keith Claus, of Massillon. A sister Ruth preceded her in death in 1949.
       Services were held Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock in The Bauer and Turner Chapel, with Rev. Charles Price officiating. Burial was in Miltonsburg Cemetery on Woodsfield, Route 3.

        A retired employee of Timken Roller Bearing Co., he was born Jan. 10, 1903 at Whigville, Noble County, the son of the late Wilbur and Wilma Martin Floyd.

Oliver Thurman Gatten, 72, of Lewisville, Route 2, died Friday morning, March 2, 1973, at ten o'clock, at his home.  He was born September 22, 1900, in Wayne Township, near Lewisville, the son of the late Winfield and Martha Smith Gatten.  Mr. Gatten was a member of the Moose Ridge Memorial Chapel near Woodsfield. He was a retired farmer and served as Wayne Township Clerk for several years.

Surviving are his wife, Audrey Highman Gatten; four sons, William Muth, of Pleasant City; Kermit Gatten, of Marietta; Kenneth Gatten, of Hazardville, Connecticut, and Delmas Gatten, of Columbus; three daughters, Mrs. Eula Kahrig and Mrs. Sue Kuhn, of Columbus, and Mrs. Amy Furbee, of Newark; twenty-one grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; five sisters, Mrs. Stella Willison, of Circleville,Ohio; Mrs. Chloe Farley, of Akron; Mrs. Edna Simmons, Mrs. Mary Hoover and Mrs. Ruth Cramblett, of Woodsfield, and several nieces and nephews.

Fowler, Thelma W. Fowler nee Wharton

       Mrs. Thelma W. Fowler, 76, formerly of Zanesville, died Sunday afternoon, Sept. 2, 1973, at 2:30 o’clock, in Good Samaritan Medical Center, Zanesville, several hours after being admitted.  She suffered an apparent heart attack earlier at Summit Acres Nursing Home in Caldwell where she was a patient.  She was the widow of Fred Fowler, former district superintendent of Columbia Gas who died in May 1970.  Born in Summerfield November 11, 1896, she was the daughter of Alva G. and Nellie Cunningham Wharton.  Mrs. Fowler was a member of Central Trinity United Methodist Church in Zanesville.

       Survivors include a daughter, Mrs.Vivian Rhodes, of Monterey Park, California; a granddaughter, Mrs. Sandra Sue James and a great granddaughter, both of California; two sisters, Mrs. Bernice Batten, of Summerfield, and Mrs. Vera Hughes, of Cambridge, and a brother, A. G. Wharton, Jr., of Summerfield.  A brother and a sister are deceased.

       Services were held Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 5th, at one o’clock, in the Brubach Funeral Home at Summerfield, with Rev. Warren E. Wilson and Rev. Richard Smith officiating.  Burial was in Eastern Cemetery at Summerfield.

        COLUMBUS -- For the third time in 10 years, Ralph Fuller lost a son to a traffic accident this week.

        It will not happen again.  Fuller has no more sons.

        Larry Fuller, 27, died Thursday of injuries he sustained in an accident Saturday.

        Keith, 6, was killed in 1963 when a car struck him as he darted from between two parked cars carrying a Halloween treat bag.

        Dale, 19, was killed in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., four years ago when a truck failed to stop at a stop sign and crashed into his motorcycle.

        A retired rural mail carrier, he was born in Summerfield, Sept. 24, 1902, a  son of the late Emory and Emma C. Herlan Garrett.  He carried mail in the Summerfield area for 41 years before his retirement in 1969.  He was a life resident of Summerfield.

        Mr. Garrett was a member of Summerfield United Methodist Church, Summerfield Lodge 452 F & AM and the Retired Letter Carrier's Association.

        Preceded in death by his first wife, the former Alma Lumbatis, who died in 1961, Mr. Garrett leaves his second wife, Leora Backus Garrett; one daughter, Mrs. Thelma Schel,* Canton; one son, Dale Garrett, Caldwell R.D. 1; two step-daughters, Mrs. Naomi Triplett, Heath and Mrs. Lois Alexander, Johnstown; four step-sons, David Backus, with the U.S. Navy, John, Paul and Mark Backus, all of Columbus; five grandchildren and 17 step-grandchildren.  Two brothers are deceased.

        Rex E. Giar, 65, of 305 W. Main St., Spencer, was dead on arrival Sunday morning at Allen Memorial Hospital, Oberlin.

        Born in Huntington Township, he lived most of his life in the Spencer area.  For 26 years he was superintendent of construction for the T.J. Humes Co. in Lorain.  He was a member of the Mount Zion Lutheran Church, Spencer, where he served as a trustee.

        He was previously a member of the Spencer School Board, served the village of Spencer as a councilman, served on the beautification committee, was a founder of Spencer Recreation Park, and a member of the civic club.

        He is survived by his widow, Virginia, one son, Joe, of Spencer, one daughter, Mrs. Mary Ann Staples, Asheville, N.C., four grandchildren, one stepdaughter, Mrs. Steve  Janosko of LaGrange, two stepsons, John and Eugene Hopkins, six step-grandchildren, three sisters, Mrs. Beulah Cutter, Spencer; Mrs. Lola Pomeroy, Albion, Pennsylvania; Mrs. Dorothy Gallatin, Cleveland; two brothers, Leo of Spencr and Karl of Meridian, Texas.

        He was preceded in death by his first wife, Nadine, and a brother.

        Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the Mount Zion Lutheran Church, Spencer.  Officiating will be Pastor Adam Graf and Pastor Milton Hook of LaGrange.

        Interment will be in Spencer cemetery.

Graham was born in Washington County, the son of Maurice and Mary Elizabeth Miller Graham. He was an oil field rigger for Burtner, Morgan and Stephens Co.

Graham, William, 76, of Malta, a retired oil field employee and steel worker, died on Tuesday morning, Sept.4, 1973 at 9:30 o'clock, in Bethesda Hospital, Zanesville. He was born at New Matamoras, December 3,1896, a son of Isaac and Mary Worstell Graham.

Surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Fannie McFerren, of McConnelsville, Route 3; Mrs. Edna Stegner of McConnelsville, and Mrs. Nellie Stegner, of Malta.

Three brothers preceded him in death.

        MT. STERLING, Ill. -- Graveside services for Edwin Greiwe, 80, of Clayton, who died Tuesday (Sept. 11, 1973) in his home, were held Wednesday afternoon in the Hersman cemetery.

        Mr. Greiwe was born in Perry, March 21, 1893, a son of William and Lucetta Kaylor* Greiwe.  He attended Pike County schools and the Zion Lutheran Church.

        Surviving are a brother, Herman of Clayton, and three sisters, Mrs. Flora Kallenbach, Mrs. Iva Liehr and Mrs. Francis (Nina) Morath, all of Versailles.  He was preceded in death by a sister.

        Hartman, Joseph, 82, of Sardis, a retired farmer and glass worker, died Sunday morning, August 26, 1973 in Bellaire City Hospital. Born in Sardis, September 4, 1890, he was the son of the late John and Mary Holtsclaw Hartman. Mr. Hartman was a member of the United Methodist Church, and Ohio Valley Post No.760, American Legion, Hannibal. He was a World War I Veteran.

        Surviving are two sisters, Miss Katie Hartman, of Beallsville, and Mrs. Eva Trago, of Columbus; one brother, Jesse Hartman, of Sardis, and several nieces and nephews.

        Services were held Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock in the Rush Funeral  Home at Sardis, with Minister Arthur Probst officiating. Burial was in  Sardis Cemetery.

Mrs.   Robert   F.   Hinton

        Mrs. Mildred Hinton, 71, Lowell, died at 7:30 a.m. today in Marietta Memorial Hospital.

        She was born March 29, 1902, in Monroe County, a daughter of the late William and Maude Leake Leach.

        In 1924, she was married to Robert F. Hinton, who died Nov. 21, 1963.  She was a member of Lowell Christian Church.

       Five children survive, Mrs. Delton (Marie) Moore,* Wadsworth, Mrs. Blaine (Jeane) Dowler, Mrs. Bernard (Betty) DeLong, Robert F. Hinton Jr. and John W. Hinton, all of Lowell, with 16 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.  Two sisters, Mrs. Louise Hendershot, Wheeling, W. Va., and Mrs. Cora Lough, Odessa, Tex., and two brothers survive, Franklin, Cisco, Tex., and Herbert Leach, Oklahoma City, Okla.  A granddaughter, three brothers and three sisters preceded her in death.

        Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Lowell Christian Church, with the Rev. Charles W. Murphy and the Rev. Roger B. Moore officiating and burial in Greenlawn Cemetery.  Friends may call at Peoples Funeral Home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow and Sunday.

Hogue, Kenneth V. Hogue

   Kenneth V. Hogue, 47, died December 12, 1973, in Massilion, Ohio.  He was born on April 18, 1926, at Monroefield, near Woodsfield, Ohio, the son of the late Eugene and Bernice Brown Hogue.

   Surviving are three brothers, Homer Hogue, of Akron; Charles Hogue, of Commercial Point, Ohio, and Cletus Hogue, of Massilion, and three sisters, Blanche Wright, of Columbus; Lucille Thomas, of Shadyside, and Margaret Hazel, of Canton.

   Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, December 15th, at one o'clock, in the Foqrulet Funeral Home at Massilion. Burial was in Massilion Cemetery.

       Mrs. Mary Mildred Hoover, 67, of Woodsfield, Route 1, died Monday evening, May 7, 1973, at 5:30 o’clock, at her home of an apparent heart attack.

       She was born in Monroe County, August 7, 1905, a daughter of the late Winfield and Martha Smith Gatten.

       Mrs. Hoover was a member of the Chruch of Christ.

       Surviving are four sisters, Mrs. Estella Willison, of Circleville, Ohio; Mrs. Chloe Farley, of Tallmadge, Ohio; Mrs. Edna Simmons and Mrs. Ruth Cramblett, of Woodsfield, and several nieces and nephews.

       She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Hoover, on March, 24, 1969, and her brother, O. T. Gatten, March 2, 1973.

       Friends were received at the Bauer and Turner Funeral Home after four o’clock Wednesday afternoon.

       Services were held in their chapel this Thursday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock, with Minister Charles Hendershot and Minister J. V. A. Traylor officiating.

       Burial was in Oaklawn Cemetery, Woodsfield, Ohio.

        Mildred A. Houck, 50, of 225 S. Sandusky St., died early today in Grady Memorial Hospital following a seven-month illness.  A 20-year resident of Delaware, she was a former Montgomery Ward employe [sic].  She was a member of the Christian Faith Temple.

        Surviving are the husband, Robert H.; two sons, William of Mt. Gilead and Robert A., 10 Orchard Hts.; a daughter, Judith, at home; and seven grandchildren.

        Other survivors include seven sisters, Mrs. Joanne Mathers, Mrs. Carol Heines [sic–Haines] and Mrs. Grace Weaver, all of Chillicothe, Mrs. Betty Shrake, Reynoldsburg, Mrs. Bea Mason, Mrs. Tiny Workman* and Mrs. Fran Workman,* all of Florida; and three brothers, James, John and Robert Cutright, all of Chillicothe.

        Friends may call between 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at the Bennett-Brown funeral home where services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Robert Weber of the First Church of God officiating.  Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery.

Mrs House died Saturday March 31, 1973 at Wheeling Hospital.  She was born Nov 21, 1914 in Noble County, the daughter of Garfield and Tessie Bates Danford and was a member of the United Methodist Church.

Mrs House leaves her husband, Ralph; two daughters, Mrs Paul (Loretta) Widder and Mrs Charles (Joyce) Dottavio, both of Massillon; five grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs Arthilda Mendenhall, Sarahsville, and Miss June Danford, both of Caldwell and Mrs Helen Day, Quaker City R.D. 1.

        AMSTERDAM -- Alden W. Humes, 83, of RD 1, Amsterdam, died at Ohio Valley Hospital at 3:20 a.m. today after an extended illness.

        He was a retired railroader, having retired in 1949 from Weirton Steel Division.

        He had lived in Amsterdam the past 18 years.

        He was a member of the Church of God in Amsterdam.

        Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Mildred DeNoon  Humes; five daughters, Mrs. Frank (Shirley) Lucas* of RD 2, Bloomingdale; Mrs. Junior (Sandra) Thomas* of RD 1, Amsterdam; Mrs. Alton (Marjorie) Mabis of Cincinnati; Mrs. Jeff (Wilma) Achammer of Berea, and Mrs. John (Helen) Snider of Arvada, Colo.; 12 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Jackson, Ella Mae Jackson, nee Bowen

        Mrs. Ella Mae Jackson, 61, Rinard Mills, died at 11 p.m. Wednesday at Marietta Memorial Hospital.

        She was born Oct. 19, 1912, at Boone Camp, Ky., a daughter of the late John and Sylvia Branham Bowers.

        In 1928, she was married to Russell Swain.  One son survives this marriage, the Rev. Haskel Swain, Covington, Ky.

        She was later married to Samuel Jackson, who survives with one step-son Willard Jackson, New York.  There are four grandchildren, three brothers and two sisters surviving.

        Mrs. Jackson was a member of the Baptist Church at Boone Camp, Ky.

        The body was taken from Doudna & McClure Funeral Home to Covington, Ky. yesterday.  Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Allison & Rose Funeral Home, Covington, with burial in Highland Cemetery.

        Funeral services for William R. Jamison, 92, of Summit City are to be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Lawncrest's Redding  Chapel.

        The Rev. Claude Porter is to officiate at the services, with burial to follow at Lawncrest Memorial Park.

        Jamison, a 43-year resident of Shasta County and retired oil-well drilling contractor, died Friday of natural causes at Shasta General Hospital.

        He was a past member of the Order of Redmen.

        Jamison was born Aug. 11, 1880 in West Virginia.  He leaves a son, William L. Jamison of Summit City; step-son, Liman L. Gillespie of Illinois; and two daughters, Mrs. Harriet Foster of Redding and Mrs. Mary Harkey of Florida.

        Jamison also leaves three brothers, Harlen Jamison of West Virginia, Charles Jamison of Ohio and Mark Jamison of Florida; a sister, Mrs. Lelia Joy of West Virginia; and six grandchildren.

        Pallbearers are to be Pat Bartlett, Jack Works, Hugh Asbill, Charles Hoffman, Charles Lee and Ivar Krogsted.

        Friends may call at the Redding Chapel Monday from 5 to 9 p.m.

        He retired nine years ago from Rockwell, where he worked 45 years.

        He was a member of Barberton Eagles.

        He leaves his wife, Shibby, stepdaughters, Mrs. Marie Miller, Cambridge, Mrs. Mildred Nutter, Houston, Tex., Mrs. Cloris Metz, Norton, Mrs. Phyllis Van Leer, San Bernardino, Cal., Mrs. Della Wise, Norton; stepsons Oris Hall, Indiana and John Hall, Michigan; brothers Howard and George, both of Barberton, and Saul, Canton; sister, Mrs. Mary Wise, Barberton; and 26 grandchildren.

        JEWETT -- Stanley E. Joseph, 68, of RD 1, Jewett, was dead on arrival at St. John Medical Center in Steubenville Wednesday night.  He had suffered an apparent heart attack.  Mr. Joseph was a retired coal miner.

        He was born in Canton, Ohio, Jan. 18, 1905.

        Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Dorothy Snider* Hoobler Joseph; two daughters, Mrs. Don (Jacqueline) Hough of Alliance, and Mrs. Helen Fulk of New Lexington, Ohio; a son, Donald Joseph, at home; six step-children, Raymond Hoobler, Mrs. Raymond (Arvella) Delloma and Mrs. Gordon (Lorraine) Liggett of Rd 1, Jewett; Ruben Hoobler and Mrs. Kenneth (Diane) Maxwell of Cadiz and Miss Sharon Hoobler, at home; 18 grandchildren, and a brother, Edward Joseph of Flushing.

       Mrs. Emma Melinda Kilburn, 74, of 413 East Marietta Street, Woodsfield, died April 11, 1973 at 2:15 o’clock in Barnesville Hospital after an illness.

       She was born in Monroe County, Ohio, April 22, 1898, the daughter of the late Samuel and Matilda Hines Bintz.

       Mrs. Kilburn was a member of the Woodsfield United Methodist Church and the Wesleyan Service Guild of the Church. She was also a member of World War II Barracks No. 3505 Auxillary.

       Surviving are her husband, Homer Kilburn; two daughters, Mrs. Earl (Leona) Leach, of Barnesville and Mrs. Hobert (Rita) Winland of Breman; one son, Clyde Kilburn of Woodsfield; one sister, Mrs. Theodore (Hilda) English of Barnesville; six grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

       Services were held Friday afternoon at one o’clock in the Michener Funeral Home on Eastern Avenue with the Rev. George E. Bender officiating. Burial was in Friendship Cemetery, at Lewisville.

        William Kinkade, 58, Blaine, died Monday evening at the Pittsburgh, Pa., Veterans Hospital.  He was born in Bellaire, March 2, 1915, a son of the late William and Louise Landers Kinkade.

        He was a Protestant by faith, a veteran of World War II, a member of Bridgeport Masonic Lodge 181, and a retired furnace superintendent for Ohio Ferro Alloy.

        Surviving are his widow, Virginia Bennett Kinkade; one daughter, Mrs. Ronald (Brenda) Sury of Maynard; one son, Michael of Follansbee; two step-brothers, Dale Kinkade of Moundsville and William F. Kinkade of Cumberland, Ohio; three granddaughters.

        Friends will be received at the Wilson Funeral Home, Bridgeport, tonight from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.  Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Wilson Chapel with Rev. Waugh officiating.  Burial in Linwood Cemetery, Blaine.

 

Kuhn, Clarence Kuhn

        Clarence Kuhn, 64, died at his home in Lebanon, Lower Salem Rt. 2, at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7, 1973.

        He was born July 19, 1908, at Fifteen, a son of the late Hiram and Martha Groves Kuhn.

        He married Iola Johnson, who survives with three sons and four daughters:  Earl Kuhn and Mrs. Violet Hall, both of Wingett Run; Marjorie Kuhn, Marietta Rt. 4; Mrs. Helen Mellott, Rinard Mills; Mrs. Connie Hart, West Union, W. Va., and Lonnie and Arlen Kuhn of the home.  One daughter, Rosemary is deceased.  There are 18 grandchildren.

        Three brothers survive, Andrew and Charles Kuhn, both of Wingett Run; and George Kuhn, Diamond.  Three brothers, Wilson, Sherman and James, and four sisters, Mrs. Rosa Hackathorn, Mrs. Lillie Greathouse, Mrs. Bessie Holland and Hannah Kuhn, preceded him in death.

        Mr. Kuhn had been employed at the U.S.Stoneware Co. until his retirement.  He was a member of the Baptist Church.

        Services will be at 12:30 p.m. Saturday in Doudna & McClure Funeral Home with further services at 2 p.m. at Liberty Baptist Church.  Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery at Marr.  Friends may call at the funeral home.

 SUMMERFIELD---Mrs. Maude Leach, 80, Summerfield R.D. 1, died at 7:40 P.M. Sunday (April 1, 1973) in Bethesda Hospital, Zanesville, where she had been a patient for three weeks.

       Born in Monroe County, Nov. 27, 1892, she was the daughter of the late James and Mary Carpenter and was a member of Bates Hill Church of Christ.

Mrs. Leaves her husband, Ellis D. (Pete) Leach; four daughters, Mrs. Betty Casey, Sarahsville, Miss Phyllis Leach of the home, Mrs Edith Bates, West Lafayette and Mrs. Nancy Moore, Coshocton; 15 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; one sister, Miss Hallie Carpenter, Cambridge and one brother, Calvin Carpenter, Quaker City R.D. 1.

       Two daughters, one son, and several brothers and sisters are deceased.

Friends may call at Brubach Funeral Home here from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. Tuesday. Funeral services will be held at 1 P.M. Wednesday in Bates Hill Church of Christ with Evangelists William Deuell and J. Bernard Mason officiating. Burial will be in Eastern Cemetery, Summerfield.

Lendon, Wilbur Fisk, a retired miner and farmer died Wednesday afternoon March 21, 1973 at 4:25 o'clock in Barnesville Hospital. He was born October 9, 1886 in Armstrong Mills, a son of the later Thomas and Alveratta Wolff Lendon.  His first wife, Lucy Bumgardner Lendon, preceded him in death.  Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth Urwin Lendon; five sons, Wilber Lendon of Columbus; James Lendon of Bordman; George Lendon of Bethesda; Earl Lendon of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and Leslie Lendon of Dennison.  Six daughters, Mrs. Otis (Martha) Sims of Kansas City, Missouri, Mrs. Warren (Jessie) Smyth of Wharton, Texas, Mrs. Otho (Della) Miller of Kirkwood, Illinois, Mrs. Stanley (Dorthea) Zupan, of Cleveland, Mrs. Dan (Helen) Stewart of Carrolton, and Mrs. Robert (Lela) Rosini, of Fairpoint; twenty -seven grandchildren; several great grandchildren; two sisters Mrs. Lottie Ward, of Columbus, and Mrs. Ida Brenza of Shaker Heights, and one brother, Ray Lendon, of Bethesda. Services were held Saturday afternoon at one o'clock in the Kelly-Kemp Funeral Home Bethesda, with the Rev. Fread Bell officiating.  Interment was in Belmont Cemetery

Lindenmeyer, Glenn H., 48, of Route 3, Wooster, Ohio, died suddenly early Friday morning, August 10, 1973, at his home following a heart attack. He was born October 10, 1924, at Beallsville, the son of Walter and Vesta Steiger Lindenmeyer. Mr. Lindenmeyer was a member and treasurer of the Burbank Road Church of Christ, Wooster, and had been employed as a foreman
for the past three years at Astro Metallurgical Corporation.

Surviving in addition to his mother, Mrs. Vesta Lindenmeyer, of Woodsfield, are his wife, Amelia Boughner Henthorn Lindenmeyer; two step-sons, Dale Henthorn and Clyde Henthorn of Wooster, Route 3; two brothers, Carl Lindenmeyer, of Nankin, Ohio and Steven Lindenmeyer of Woodsfield.

        GAS  CITY -- Elmo C. Liston, 71, Ciscell's Trailer Court, died at 11:30 p.m. Sunday at his home.

        A native of Illinois, he had lived in Gas City for the past 50 years.  He was a retired employe of Owens-Illinois, Gas City, and was currently employed by the City of Gas City.

        NORTH  FAIRFIELD -- Mrs. Edna Lockyer, 82, North Fairfield, died this morning at Fisher-Titus Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.

        Born in Woodsfield, Mrs. Lockyer had lived in the North Fairfield area since 1948, having come from Ashland.

       Survivors include one son, Fred H. of rural North Fairfield; one granddaughter, Miss Janet Lockyer, and a grandson Steve Lockyer, both of North Fairfield; and a brother J.V. Brown, of Zanesville.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard, in 1966; two sons, John and George; a brother, John and a sister, Mrs. Tillie Kysor.

        Private funeral services will be held Thursday at Kubach-Smith Funeral Home, North Fairfield with the Rev. Thomas Lasley, pastor of the Church of the Master, officiating.  Burial will be in North Fairfield Cemetery.  There will be no visiting hours.

        Glenn L. Martin, 61, of 1211 Cleveland Ave. SW, passed away at Aultman Hospital Thursday after a long illness.  He was born in Pa., and a resident of the Canton area for the past 50 years.  He was an Army veteran of World War II, and was employed as a machine operator at the White Motor Corp.

        Survived by two sons; Larry of Canton and Jack of San Francisco, California.  Two sisters; Mrs. Virginia Forney and Mrs. Helen Strausser, both of N. Canton.  Six brothers; Wayne of Canton, Arthur of Lakeworth, Florida, Earl of Ambia, Indiana, Harold and Ray, both of California and Grover of Irwin, Pa.

        Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Lewis-Karlo & Sons funeral home with Rev. W. A. Amerson officiating.  Burial in Mt. Peace Cemetery in Hartville. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday evening 7-9 p.m.

Matz, Lake L. Matz

        Lake L. Matz, 70 of 222 Samaritan Ave., former manager of Western Union for 49 years, died at Samaritan Hospital at 3:34 a.m. today [submitter's note: 16 Mar 1973].

        Mr. Matz retired from Western Union in July 1967.

        The son of Christian and Louise (Latta) Matz, he was born in Louisville [submitter's note: should be Lewisville] Aug 3, 1902. He had been a resident  of Ashland for 59 years coming here from Louisville.

        On Nov. 30, 1935, he was married to Eva Louise Davis who survives.  Other survivors include one son, David B. of Ashland and two sisters, Marguerite Matz of Ashland and Mrs. John O'Neil of Marion, Ind.

        He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.

        He was a member of Masonic Ashland Blue Lodge No. 151 F&AM, Chapter No. 67 and Council No. 128. He was also a member of First United Methodist Church.

        Funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Gilbert Funeral Home with Rev. Merlin Vining officiating. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery.

        Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home where Masonic service will be held at 9 p.m. Sunday.

        Mr. Rossi* Mayo, 82, who resided with his daughter, Mrs. William Williams of Minerva, died Saturday evening at Alliance City Hospital.

        He was born Oct. 13, 1890 at Wayne County, Ill.

        He is survived by four daughters, one son, one step-son, one brother and two sisters.

        Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the DeSellms-Long Funeral Home, Cisney,** Ill.  Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Wayne County, Ill.

        The Cassady and Turkle Funeral Home were in charge of arrangements.

        GROVER  HILL -- Thomas P. McClure, 76, formerly of Grover Hill, died at 1 a.m. Jan. 28 in his residence at Route 4, Eaton Rapids, Mich.

        Born May 4, 1896, in Grover Hill, he was the son of Alta and Ella Kinkade McClure.  He married Ruth Conley of Paulding in 1918.*  She survives.

        He was a veteran of World War I and was a livestock dealer and farmer.

        Surviving besides his wife are two sons, Wilbur, Springport, Mich., and Lester, Olivet, Mich.; two daughters, Margaret Squares,** Eaton Rapids, Mich. and Beatrice McBaid,*** Rochester, N.Y.; a sister, Beatrice Cook, Bellevue; 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

        Viewing and services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Middle Creek United Methodist Church, Grover Hill, with the Rev. Everett Thomas officiating.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.  Assisting with the local arrangements is the Didrick-Taylor Funeral Home, Grover Hill.

      Samuel Mercer - son of Jacob M. and Jennie Fox Mercer - age 79,  of Paris, OH,  passed away at Timken Mercy Hospital, Canton, Ohio, Saturday September 29, 1973  following a one month illness.  He lived in the vicinity for over 50 years, born in West Virginia January 22, 1894.  Member of the Israel United Church of Christ.  He was retired coal miner. 

      He was preceded in death by his wife Carrie in 1971.  Survivors include his daughters: Mrs. Donald (Martha) Gram of Paris; Mrs. George (Eva) Speakman of Paris; Mrs. Walter (Esther) Reed of Oneida; brother, Leb Mercer of Bergholz; sisters, Mrs. Molly Hackathorn of Bergholz; Mrs. Margaret Hackathorn of Bergholz; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren. 

      Burial at Liberty Cemetery.

Salem – Godfrey C. Meredith, 67, of Route 1, Turkey Run community, died Saturday evening in a Clarksburg hospital following a short illness.

He was born in Bristol, a son of the late James G. and Viola McKenzie Meredith.

Surviving are one daughter, Mrs Ray (Peggy Jo) Montgomery, Hobbs N.M.; two brothers, Dwight Meredith, Bristol and George Meredith, Parkersburg; two sisters, Mrs. Blanche Strother, Stinnett, Texas and Mrs. Marie Donaldson, Clarksburg; and one granddaughter, Anita Ray Montgomery, Hobbs, N.M.

Mr. Meredith was a retired employee of the Hope Natural Gas Co and was a member of the Retired Hope Employees Club.

        MITCHELL -- Funeral services  for Dwight (Buck) Mitchell, 61, who was found Wednesday morning in his room at the Irving Hotel, apparently having died during the night, will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the Newman Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Clinton B. Meininger of the First Christian Church officiating.  Burial will be in the Wymore Cemetery.

        Born April 2, 1911 in Mahaska County, he was the son of L.W. and Marie Kincaid* Mitchell.  He had been employed by the Hanson Construction Company and of the Garrett Recreation center.  He was a member of the Eagles Lodge.

        Surviving are one son, James, in Okinawa; two daughters Mrs. Ed (Patricia) McCreery of Gladbrook and Mrs. Jerry (Ernestine) Long of Moline; eight grandchildren; one brother, Ralph, of New Sharon, and one sister, Mrs. Thelma Garrett of Oskaloosa.

        Otis J. Morningstar, 80, of 428 Front St., died at 5:30 p.m. yesterday in Marietta Memorial Hospital.

        He was born in Lawrence Twp., Washington County, on July 22, 1892, a son of the late Christian and Lucy Herlan Morningstar.

        On Sept. 9, 1912, he married Lula E. Strickler, who survives with two sons and two daughters:  Virgil O. Morningstar, Marietta Rt. 5; Sgt. Gale R. Morningstar, Fort Benning, Ga.; Mrs. Edgar (Cleora) Michael, Marietta Rt. 5 and Mrs. Herman (Alberta) Marshall of the home.  There are 9 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.  One grandchild is deceased.

        One brother survives, Frank Morningstar, Marietta Rt. 5.  One brother, Edward, and one sister, Mrs. Ada Strickler, preceded him in death.

        Mr. Morningstar had been a farmer, coal miner and timberman and had spent most of his life in Lawrence Twp.

        Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Doudna & McClure Funeral Home with burial in Moss Run Cemetery.  Friends may call at the funeral home.

        Mrs. Frank F. (Mae P.) Morris, 82, 2261 Stewart  NW, died at 12:15 a.m. today in Trumbull Memorial Hospital, following an 18-month illness.

        Mrs. Morris formerly operated the Twin Oaks Tourist Home, W. Market St., for many years.

         She was born Jan. 12, 1891, in Guernsey County, Ohio, the daughter of William and Anna M. Leonard.  Her husband, Frank F. Morris, died Oct. 22, 1960.

        A resident here since 1920, she was a member of Tod Avenue Methodist Church and the Volunteer Class.

        Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Miles (Bernidene) [sic–Bernadine] Baldwin of North Madison; a son, Frank F. of Warren; two grandchildren;

and a great-grandchild.  Two sisters and three brothers preceded her in death.

        Arthur F. Neuhardt, 80, Lewisville, Ohio, died Tuesday, July 10, 1973, from injuries received in a tractor accident near his home.  He was born in Monroe County, May 7 1893, a son of the late Jacob and Lucetta Bentz Neuhardt.

        He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ of Lewisville, a member of Woodsfield Masonic Lodge, and a retired manager of the Monroe County ASC office and farmer.

        Surviving are his widow, Bertha Christman Neuhardt; three daughters, Mrs. Edward (Marie) Green of Reynoldsburg, Mrs. Charles (Nadine) Knowlton of Wooster, Mrs. Max (Delys) Bodenhausen of Bellevue, Neb., two sons, Vernon of Wooster and Richard of the home; one brother, Franklin of Lewisville; 11 grandchildren.

        Mrs. Mary P. O'Donnell, 70, formerly of Liberty Township, died of a stroke at 7 p.m. Friday in Glenn View Manor, Mineral Ridge, after a six-month illness.

        Mrs. O'Donnell was born Oct. 24, 1903, in East Liverpool, a daughter of Conrad and Nettie Kline Goodballet.  She was a member of First Christian Church, Girard.  Her husband, Thomas, died in 1964.

        She leaves a son, Thomas of Girard and a sister, Mrs. Leona Hopkins of Warren.

        Private services were held today at Blackstone's Church Hill Road funeral home.  The family asks that material tributes take the form of contributions to the church  memorial fund.

        Marion L. Painer, 62, of Lynn Center died Wednesday evening, October 17, in Moline Public hospital where he had been a patient since September 8.

        He was born August 11, 1911, in Geneseo, the son of William L. and Beulah Fones Painter.  Mr. Painter was a Lynn township farmer.  On November 28, 1946, he married Julia Kilby at Kahoka, Missouri.

        Surviving are his wife; one son, William L. of Green Rock; six daughters, Mrs. Mary Ann Pagakis of East Moline, Laurie Jo Painter at home, Mrs. James Gustafson of Coal Valley, Mrs. Raymond Coker of Carrolton, Illinois, Mrs. James Cook of Moline and Mrs. Ronald Wood of Rock Island; 21 grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

        Also, four stepsons,  Jerry Kruger of Moline, Daniel Kruger of New York, New York, Robert Kruger of Baltimore, Maryland and James of Lebanon, Missouri; his father of Geneseo; five sisters, Mrs. Reuben Larvenz, Mrs. Frank Laleman and Mrs. Laurel Shoemaker, all of Geneseo, Mrs. Pete VanHerzeele of Atkinson and Mrs. Ed Ackerman of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; and five brothers, John of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Frank of East Moline, Arthur of Andover and Warren and William Jr., both of Geneseo.


        His mother preceded him in death.

        Perry D.Peddicord, 61, of 527 Wells Hollow Rd., Wellsville, a potter, died Wednesday at 5:45 p.m. at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Youngstown, after a four-year illness.

        He last worked Oct. 10 at the Hall China Co. as a dipper in the color room.

        Mr. Peddicord was born here June 27, 1912, son of William H. and Rose Hausier Peddicord.  He was a member of the IBPAW.

        Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Mamie Goodballet, whom he married June 21, 1933; three sons, James W. Peddicord of East Liverpool, Robert P. Peddicord of New Waterford and John E. Peddicord of Fremont, Calif.; a daughter, Mrs. Frank (Janet) Willis Jr. of Wellsville; a sister, Mrs. Dan (Alberta) Wolfe of East Liverpool, and 10 grandchildren.

          Services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the Martin Funeral Home by the Rev. Gerald Miller of the First Assembly of God Church.  Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery.

        Mrs. Piatt was born Jan 22,*1879 at Calais to Thomas and Susanna** Markle Morris.  She had been an Apple Creek resident for the past 12 years.  She was a member of the Christian Church of Calais.

        Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Lawerance*** (Freda) Stauch Lisk of Apple Creek; a son Charles K.  Stauch of Dalton; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; a sister Mrs. Jennie Drake of West Lafayette; a brother, Alva Morris of Salem.

        Her first husband, Charles Stauch died in 1921, second husband Henry Ullon [sic--Ullom] died in 1953 and her third husband, George Piatt died in 1963.  A son, Tom, four brothers and three sisters also died previously.

        Services will be Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the Murphy Mortuary with the Rev. James G. Simpson officiating.  Burial will be in Lewis Creek Baptist Cemetery.  Friends may call at the mortuary after 4:00 p.m. Wednesday.

        Born in Cincinnati June 24, 1907, Mrs. Pope was the daughter of Tony and Helen (Davis) Urick.  She was married in April, 1924, to Wilbur C. Pope and he survives.

        Also surviving are a brother, Kenneth Urick, New Albany, and a sister, Mrs. Gladys Downey, Whiteland.

        Mrs. Pope was a member of the Geneva United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Washington Township Extension Homemakers Club, Flat Rock Citizens Club and Shelby County Western Riders.

        Mrs. Blanche Pope, 94, died Thursday at 10:30 p.m. at Faith Nursing Home in Edinburg where she had been a patient for seven years.

        A lifelong resident of Shelby and Marion Counties until seven years ago, Mrs. Pope was the oldest member of the Acton United Methodist Church and a member of its Loyal Workers Class.

        Mrs. Pope was born in Shelby County Aug. 8, 1878, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Young.  On July 10, 1895, she was married to James L. Pope, who died Aug. 29, 1935.

        Surviving are five children, Wilbur C. Pope, R.R. 1, Flat Rock, Mrs. George (Dora) Schuck and Gordon C. Pope of Shelbyville, and Mrs. John (Dorothy) Myers and John L. Pope of Acton; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and one brother, Millard Young of Shelbyville.

        Services will be Friday at 1:30 p.m. at Ewing Mortuary, with burial in Winchester Cemetery.  Friends may call at the mortuary after 4:00 p.m. Thursday.

 

Renker, Joseph C. Renker

       Joseph C. Renker, 87, of Jerusalem, Route 1, died Saturday morning, August 4, 1973, at five o’clock, in Barnesville Hospital.

       He was born in the Burkhart community, Monroe County, October 30, 1885, a son of the late Andress and Mary Ann Baker Renker. He was a retired farmer.

       Surviving are his wife, Freda Christman Renker; one son, John Renker, of Columbus; one daughter, Mrs. Lewis (Mary) Messenger, of Barnesville, and ten grandchildren. Two sons preceded him in death.

       Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at two o’clock in the Gardner Funeral Home at Woodsfield, with Rev. Ralph Geiger, officiating. Burial was in the Calais Cemetery.

        She was born July 31, 1882, at Archers Fork, the daughter of Andrew and Barbara Scott Guthberlet.*  She was married May 15, 1904 to James Rinard, who preceded her in death.

        Surviving are three sons and two daughters:  Meade, Breckinridge, Tenn.**; Ford, 111 Mound Dr.; Maurice, Dun Wrentin Rd.; Mrs. Preston (Ruth) Rollyson, Lowell and Mrs. Donald (Virginia) Flower, 411 Oakwood Ave.  There are nine grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Walter Schneider, and a brother, Harold Gutherberlet,* both of East Liverpool, O.  Two brothers and three sisters preceded her in death.

        Mrs. Rinard was a member and former deaconess of First Baptist Church.

        Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Harold Hadley & Sons Funeral Home, with burial in Eddys Ridge Cemetery.  The family will meet friends in the funeral home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow.

        CANAL FULTON -- Services for Julian R. Roach, 75, of 608 Poplar st., will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Campfield-Hickman funeral home in Barberton.  Burial will be in Greenlawn cemetery.

        Mr. Roach died Friday at Barberton Citizens Hospital.

        Born in Monroe County, he lived in Canal Fulton five years, in the Portage Lakes area for 23 years and in Barberton for 20 years.

        He made insulators for Ohio Brass for 42 years, retiring nine years ago.

        He was a 50 year member of the Adoniram Lodge F&AM, the Scottish Rite Valley of Akron Consistory, 32nd degree; Washington Chapter No. 25 Royal Arch Masons, Yusef  Khan grotto, and the Chapel of Prayer.

       He leaves his wife, Mary Kathryn; daughter, Mrs. Vera Appel, Anaheim, Cal.; sons, John, Canal Fulton, Rev. Donald, Union City, Pa.; Norman, Akron, and Gene, Carpenterville, Ill.; brothers, Finley, Marietta and Harry, Akron; 17 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

        Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 tonight and from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and until time of service Tuesday.

        A Masonic Service will be at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

        TORONTO -- Mrs. Margaret Sabol, 69, of 303  3rd St., Stratton, died at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Ohio Valley Hospital, Steubenville.  She was the widow of Frank J. Sabol, who died in 1971.

        Mrs. Sabol was born in Jefferson County,* July 7, 1903.  She was a member of the Stratton Nazarene Church.

        Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Don (Emma) Brewer of Wellsville, and Mrs. Flora Morrow of Stratton; two sisters, Mrs. Emma Pries of Steubenville, and Mrs. Mattie Thrasher of Wellsville; five grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Schneider, Walter O. Schneider

        Walter O. Schneider, 79, of 2761 St. Clair Ave., former chairman of the Board of Public Utilities for 20 years, died Friday at 3:30 a.m. at City Hospital after an illness of several years.

        He was born in East Liverpool Sept. 14, 1893, a son of David and Sophia Schneider.  He had resided in this area his life-time, and retired in 1958 from the Treadwell Construction Co. as a purchasing agent after 38 years of service.

        He was appointed a member of the Board of Public Utilities by the late Mayor Arnold Devon at the time it was organized in 1952.  Elected chairman, he served continually until early 1973 when he retired.

        He also had served as an office manager here with the former Pennsylvania Railroad Co.  He served with the Army during World War I and was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church and Riddle Masonic Lodge 315.

        On Dec. 26, 1930, he was married to the former Sena Goodballet, who survives at the home.

        Other survivors include three stepsons, Ralph W. Seevers and Harold A. Seevers of East Liverpool and Clinton R. Seevers of Buena Air, Calif. and a sister, Mrs. Harry (Martha) Hirner of Shadyside Ave.

        Services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Martin Funeral Home.  Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.

        Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.  Masonic services will be conducted Sunday at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

 

Shepard, Anna Shepard, nee Lucas

        Mrs. Anna Lucas Shepard, 78, Linton, died at 11:20 a.m. Thursday at the Freeman-Greene County Hospital.

        Mrs. Shepard was born in Marco Aug. 29, 1894, the daughter of William and Lyssia Jane Britton Lucas.  Her husband, Charles L. Shepard, died Aug. 4, 1947.  She was a member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church and was a retired hospital employee.  She was a past Noble Grand of the Violet Rebekah Lodge of Linton.

        Survivors include a son, Charles Linton; two daughters, Mrs. Marianna McBride, Linton and Mrs. Carole Hoggatt, Tampa, Fla., five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Burch, Linton.  A son, six brothers and a sister also preceded her in death.

        Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Anderson - Poindexter Memory Chapel with Rev. Broten Martin officiating and burial will follow in the Odd Fellows Cemetery at Bicknell.  Friends may call at the Memory Chapel after 7 p.m.

 

Simpson, Blanche Simpson, nee Powless

Mrs.  Ralph  Simpson,  Of  Cisne,  Succumbs

        Mrs. Blanche Simpson, 72, the wife of Ralph Simpson, a retired Cisne man, died at 8:40 a.m. Tuesday in Fairfield Memorial Hospital.

        Mrs. Cisne was admitted to the hospital about six days before her death, suffering from a heart condition.

        Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at DeSelms-Long Funeral Home with Bro. John Graham officiating.  Burial will be in the Cisne Cemetery.

        Friends may call at the funeral home after 5 p.m. Thursday (today).

        Mrs. Simpson was born in Wayne County Jan. 16, 1901, the daughter of Tilden and Winnie (Schell) Powless.

        She was an active member of the Cisne Christian Church.

        Owen B. "Bunny" Simpson, 57, of Tell City, died at 11:15 p.m. Sunday at Perry County Memorial Hospital where he had been admitted Friday.

        A native of Perry County, he was the son of the late William F. and Bertha Jarboe Simpson.

        He was a member of the American Legion and the Knights of Columbus.

        Surviving are three brothers, Leo, Franklin T. and Ralph Simpson, all of Tell City; and two sisters, Mrs. Herman (Agnes) Elder of Kokomo, and Mrs. James (Catherine) Mansfield of Tell City and a step-daughter, Mrs. Karen Simmons of Hawthorne, Calif.

        Services will be at 9:30 Thursday at St. Paul Catholic Church.   Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery.  The American Legion will conduct graveside rites.

 

Skinner, Ernest Clive Skinner

        News of that accident reportedly may have contributed to the death later in the day of Ernest Clive Skinner, 13, Route 4, Newport, a lifelong sufferer of epileptic seizures and stepbrother* of Mrs. Collins' husband, Mike. According to Ernest's physician, word of the fatal traffic accident upset the youth deeply, a condition which the doctor said may have led to the fatal seizure which followed at the Skinner home. The boy was pronounced dead on arrival at Newport Community Hospital.

         The Skinner youth's services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday from the Sherman Chapel here, with the Rev. Frank Dizmang officiating. Burial will be in Newport Cemetery. Besides his stepbrother, he is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Skinner, and four sister, Lynda, Jean, Ramona and Ella, at the home.

Ernest Skinner, 13, Car Crash Witness* Buried on Aug. 25

        Funeral services for Ernest Clive Skinner, 13, were held Saturday, August 25, at the Sherman chapel in Newport, with the Rev. Frank Dizmang officiating. Interment was in the Newport cemetery.

         Ernest, an epileptic, passed away Tuesday, August 21, at the Newport Hospital after witnessing the head-on auto crash near the bridge that day.*  Born March 30, 1960, at Newport, he was a lifelong resident of this area.

         Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Skinner, Route 4, Newport, four sisters, Lynda, Jean, Ramona and Ella, all at the home, several aunts and uncles.

Spicer, Mary Christina Spicer, nee Voland

        Mary  Christina Spicer, 86, of Nashville passed away November 30 at the Bartholomew county hospital.

        She had been in poor health for the past five years.

        Mrs. Spicer was born in Brown County, February 4, 1887, the daughter of John and Louisa Acton Voland.

        In October of 1908, she married Virgil Spicer, who died in 1951.

        Survivors are two sons, Carl W. Spicer, R. 3, Nashville and Walter T. Spicer, Morgantown; a daughter, Sarah Harden, Nashville; two brothers, Ora Voland, R.3, Nashville, and Charles Voland, Gas City; a sister, Mrs. Verna Duckworth, Gas City; and 18 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren.

        Funeral services were conducted December 3, with the burial in Greenlawn cemetery.

Dies    at    79

        Carl Stewart, 79, 817 S. Tompkins St., died this morning at Veterans Hospital in Marion where he had been a patient one week.  He had been ill two years and hospitalized at Veterans Hospitals in Indianapolis since December.

        Mr. Stewart formerly worked at Allison Engineering and retired from Admiral Corp. here 13 years ago.  He was a veteran of World War I and a member of Victory Post 70, American Legion, and Veterans of World War I Barracks 62.  He attended the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Boggstown.

        Born Sept. 14, 1893 in Switzerland County, Mr. Stewart was the son of John and Nannie (Skeen) Stewart.  On June 5, 1920, he married Alta M. Moore in Shelbyville and she survives.

        Also surviving are a grandson; two sisters, Mrs. Lyda Moore and Mrs. Harry (Olive) Perkins, and a brother, Wilbur Webb Stewart, all of Shelbyville.

        Two daughters and two brothers preceded in death.

        Services will be Friday at 2:00 p.m. at the Murphy Mortuary with Pastor

 Donald A. Klinger officiating.  Burial will be in Boggstown Cemetery with military rites by the Legion.  Friends may call at the mortuary after 3:00 p.m. Thursday.

 

Stewart, Daniel W. Stewart

Stewart, 96, of Woodsfield, died Wednesday morning, December 5, 1973, at his home.  Born February 8, 1877in Sardis, he was a son of the late John and Mary Jane Wilson Stewart.  Mr. Stewart was a retired farmer.  Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Mary Allen and Mrs. Floyd Ault of Woodsfield, Mrs. Della Day of Elm Grove, W. Va., and Mrs. Viola Bertschy of West Salem, four sons, Oscar Stewart, of Rittman, John Stewart and Chester Stewart of Creston and Beryl Stewart of Woodsfield, several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, and one brother, Charles Stewart of Sardis.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Mollie Hendershot Stewart, two sons, two daughters, one step-daughter, four sisters and one brother.  Services were held Saturday afternoon at two o’clock in the Mount Olive United Methodist Church with the Rev. Frank Conley officiating.  Burial was in the church cemetery with the Rush Funeral Home of Sardis in charge.

        PAYNE -- Lloyd D. Sutton, 50,  627 W. Merrin St., died at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Parkview Memorial Hospital, Fort Wayne, where he was a patient three weeks.

        He had been in failing health for two years.

        He was born Aug. 15, 1922 at Paulding, a son of Lloyd and Mary (Brenner) Sutton.

        He was employed  at General Motors, Defiance.

        He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church; Flat Rock Lodge No. 580 F. & A.M.; Veterans of Foreign Wars; Reuben J. Smith Post 297, American Legion.  He served in the Navy during WW II.

        Surviving are his wife, Joan (Harp) Sutton; a son, Darren, of Payne; a daughter, Mrs. Carol Riley, of Payne; three sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Thompson and Mrs. Gloria Condon, of Paulding, and Mrs. Katherine Lewis, of Toledo, a brother, Wm. Sutton, of Paulding, and a grandchild.

        Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. March 20, at St. Paul United Methodist Church, the Rev. Aaron Sharp and Rev. Paul Miller officiated.  Burial was in the Wiltsie cemetery, east of Payne.

        Slade Funeral Home was in charge of the funeral arrangements.

       Mrs. Thomas died Thursday morning, January 18, 1973, at 3:30 o’clock, in a Long Island Hospital.

       Born in 1900, in Noble County, she was a daughter of the late Richard E. and Mary A. Carpenter.

Turner, Mrs. Bessie Laura, 77, of Beallsville, died Thursday afternoon, November 1, 1973, at three o'clock in Barnesville Hospital. She was born in Monroe County, September 25, 1894, a daughter of the late James and Elizabeth Angus Price. Mrs. Turner was a Methodist by faith, a member of Beallsville Pythian Sisters, and Beallsville Chapter No.24, Order of Eastern Star.

Surviving are three sons; Cecil K. Phillips, of Jerusalem; Homer C. Phillips, of Beallsville, and Edward R. Turner, of Orlando, Florida; nine grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; and four sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Rarick, of Junction City, Ohio; Mrs. Minnie Bilyeu, of Danville, Ohio; Mrs. Ethel Bach, of Massillon, and Mrs. Ella Cecil, of Woodsfield. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold D. Turner, December 8, 1972; five brothers and six sisters.

Services were held Sunday afternoon at one o'clock in the Harper-Campbell Funeral Home at Beallsville, with Rev. Richard Perkins officiating. Burial was in Beallsville Cemetery.

 

Vaughn, Raymond Vaughn

        Raymond Vaughn, 68, of 10692 Navarre rd SW, (RD 3, Navarre), died Wednesday afternoon in the Cleveland Clinic, where he had been a patient since Oct. 20.

        Mr. Vaughn moved to the Harmon area of Sugar Creek Township about a year ago.  He had lived in the Canal Fulton area for 13 years while he was an operating engineer for area contracting firms.  He was a member of Akron Local 18 of the Operating Engineers Union and the Canal Fulton United Methodist Church.

        Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Mary Vaughn; a daughter, Miss Joyce Vaughn of Navarre; three sons, Jerry Vaughn, at home, Julian Vaughn of Massillon and James Vaughn of Garden Grove, Cal.; a sister, Mrs. Lora Morris of Cisna,* Ill.; a brother, Emery Vaughn in the state of Washington; and five grandchildren.  Another son, Marine Cpl. Jeffrey Vaughn, was killed in action in Vietnam Sept. 25, 1967.

        The funeral will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in Canal Fulton United Methodist Church with his pastor, the Rev. James R. Kuse, officiating.  Interment will be made in Union Cemetery, Canal Fulton.

        The body is at the Swigart Funeral Home in Canal Fulton, where friends may call this evening from 7 to 9 and Saturday from 11 a.m. to noon.  The casket will be closed during the funeral in the church.

        He was born in Eagleville Feb. 20, 1905, the son of William C. and Eunice (Pratt) White.  Mr. White retired from service with the Penn Central Railroad in 1970 after 50 years of service.

        He is survived by his wife, Sarah; four sons, Larry of Geneva, Daniel of Painesville and Norman and Ronald of Rock Creek; a sister, Mrs. Jessie Augustine of Englewood, Fla.; three brothers, Samuel of Corry, Pa., and Fred and William, both of Eagleville; 14 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

        Friends received at Kepner Funeral Home, National Road at Bethany Pike Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. where services will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. F. Emerson Wood officiating.  Interment in Greenwood Cemetery.

Wright, James Perry Wright

        Services will be held Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Martin Funeral Home for James Perry Wright, 69, of 934 Kent St., who died Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at City Hospital after a lengthy illness.

        He was born in Wetzel County, W. Va., Nov. 15, 1903, a son of Samuel Wright and Alice R. Wright.  He had resided in this area 50 years.  Mr. Wright worked as a straightening machinist at Crucible Steel Division of Colt Industries in Midland for 15 years, retiring in 1964.  He attended the Grace Baptist Temple.

        Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Alice Maxwell Wright, whom he married May 7, 1929; two sons, James Wright and Thomas D. Wright, both at home; three daughters, Miss Masel Wright, at home, Mrs. Lewis (Peggy) Williams and Mrs. Ivan (Faye) Jackson of East Liverpool and seven grandchildren.

        Pastor Gaylord Cox will conduct the Tuesday services.  Burial will be in Calcutta United Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Zinn, Gerald F. Zinn

        Gerald F. Zinn, 62, of Garfield Heights near Cleveland, an inspector for General Motors at Parma, died at 2 p.m. Thursday in Good Samaritan Medical Center after a long illness.

        He was born in Crooksville, Jan. 1, 1911, a son of Mrs. Nellie Nelson Zinn of Crooksville and the late Samuel Marion Zinn.  His wife, Pearl, died last February.

        Mr. Zinn was employed over 22 years at General Motors.  He attended New Hope United Methodist Church at Crooksville.  An Army veteran of World War II, he was wounded during the invasion at Saint Lo, France.

        Survivors include his mother; a sister, Mrs. Wanda Lyman of Hebron; two brothers, Bob and Sam Zinn, both of Crooksville.

        Friends may call after 7 p.m. today at Fred L. Cannon Funeral Home in Crooksville where services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday conducted by Rev. William Alvey.  Burial will be in Crooksville Cemetery.

 

Zinn, Pearl Zinn, nee Parsons

        Mrs. Pearl P. Zinn, 61, of Cleveland, died at 11:50 p.m. Sunday in the Mariemont Hospital at Cleveland following a brief illness.

        Born Dec. 22, 1911, in Roseville, she was a daughter of Edward and Mary Starling Parsons.

        Mrs. Zinn was employed as the manager for Silverman's Discount Center in Cleveland and was a member of the Roseville Presbyterian Church.

       Surviving are her husband, Gerald of Garfield Heights, Cleveland; three sisters, Mrs. Mabel Waltermire* of Crooksville, Mrs. Sarah Zink of Philo Route 1 and Mrs. Geneva Early of Columbus.  A brother is deceased.

        Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Fred L. Cannon and Sons Funeral Home at Crooksville with Rev. John M. Buchholtz officiating.  Burial will be in the Crooksville Cemetery.

        Friends may call today at the funeral home.
