Services for Mrs. Oleta G. Barcus, 75, of 1016 Idlewilde
Ave., will be 2:30 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Criss Brothers Funeral Home
with the Rev. Paul A. Pyles officiating.
Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Barcus died Monday morning in her home. She was born May 6, 1913 in Monroe County,
Ohio to the late Maywood and Unice Smith.
She was a resident of Licking County for 50 years, formerly
of Caldwell, Ohio.
Her husband, Clarence Barcus, died in 1974. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Frederick
(Mary) Lawrence; three sons; William W. and Leon O. Givens, both of Newark and
Arlie Sinift of Versailles, Calif.; one step-daughter, Mrs. Richard (Norma)
Woods of Newark; three stepsons: Arthur
E. Barcus of Hebron, William W. Barcus of Orangeburg, S.C. and Thomas E.
Barcus, USAF, of Madrid, Spain; 28 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. She is the last of her immediate family.
Friends may call 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9
p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Lawrence Bates passed away at the Barnesville Hospital
He was a veteran of WWII. He joined the Rich Fork Church of
Christ at an early age, and was baptized and lived a faithful member until
moving on Moose Ridge. He attended the church there as long as health
permitted.
He was the son of
Abarham [ sic-Abraham] and Sarah Jane Baker Bates and was born at Edwina
near Woodsfield. He was a retired farmer.
His parents and three
brothers, Frank, Clayton, and Richard, preceded him in death.
He is survived by one brother, Dewey, of Rich Fork; his wife,
Mary Smith Bates; two step-daughters, Mrs. James (Erma) Toole of Flushing and
Mrs. Joe (Opal) Patrick of Cadiz; six step-grandchildren; 11 step-great
grandchildren; one aunt, Leona Bates, of Woodsfield; and a host of friends and
relatives to his departure.
He was laid to rest on the 28th of January in
Oaklawn Cemetery. He was loved by all who knew him. May God bless everyone

Sympathy is extended to the family of Mr. Fred Bauman who
died May 30 after an illness of one and a half years. Mr. Bauman had retired after many years of work in the local
insurance company. He was a faithful
member of the Zion United Church of Christ and spent many hours in the upkeep
of the Hill Top Community Center. His
love for his family, his cheerful disposition and sense of humor will long be
remembered by all. Here due to his

Lorene L. Benson, age 75, of Wetumka, died Wednesday at
Wetumka General Hospital.
She was born Nov. 25, 1902 in Shelbyville, Ind. She came to Wetumka in 1947 from
Wilburton. She was a member of the
First Baptist church and charter member of the Wetumka Garden Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J.W. Benson in
June, 1956.
Survivors are: three daughters, LaVerne Lewis and Ruby
Heath, both of Wetumka and Velda Ogburn, Konawa; four grandchildren, two
great-grandchildren; a brother, Arthur Lympus, LaHabra, Calif. and a sister,
Mildred Hall of Meeker.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at First Baptist
Church with Rev. Reed Lynn officiating.
Burial will be in Okemah cemetery, under direction of Jackson-Buckley
Funeral Home, Wetumka.
Blackstone, Mark Anthony Blackstone
Mark Anthony Blackstone, 14,
of Route 1, Lewisville died Wednesday, November 22,1978, following a farm
equipment accident. He was born January
19, 1964, at Barnesville, the son of Charles Franklin (Frank) and Wanda
Henthorn Blackstone. Mark was an eighth
grade student at Skyvue School and a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church,
Burkhart.
Surviving in addition to his
parents are four brothers, Charles Jr., Gregory, Mitchell and Jason, of the
home; four sisters, Rebecca, Marilyn, Pamela and Karen, of the home; and his
paternal grandmother, Mrs. Mildred Blackstone of Lewisville, Route 1.
Rosary devotions were held on
Friday. Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday morning with burial in the
St. Joseph's Church Cemetery.

NORFOLK -- Delmer Briggs, 56, of 1329 Carlton Court, the
husband of Mrs. Elizabeth Diane Briggs and a native of Olathe, Colo., died
Friday in Newport News.
He was a specialist at Newport News Shipbuilding. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and
the Vietnam War and retired after 21 years of service.
Other survivors include three sisters, Miss Opal Briggs of
Buena Park, Calif., Mrs. Virginia Lantz of Evans, Colo., and Mrs Fay Henneck of
Eaton, Colo.; six brothers, Elmer Briggs of Ordway, Colo., Lloyd Briggs of
Monterey, Calif., Robert A. Briggs of Denver, Colo., Ray Briggs of Olympia,
Wash., George Briggs of Brighton, Colo., and Clarence Briggs of Greeley, Colo.
A Christian Wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday
in the Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m.
Tuesday in St. Pius X Catholic Church.
Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association.

Twila V. Brown, 82, formerly of 102 E. Twelfth St., died
Saturday evening at the Good Shepherd Home after a long illness.
Born June 6, 1896, in Polk, she was the daughter of Ruben
and Mary Ellen Owens Kopp. She was a
lifelong Ashland County resident and a member of the First Christian Church.
On Sept. 22, 1913, she married John A. Brown, who preceded
her in death in 1964.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Kenneth (Edith)
Kauffman, Mrs. Floyd (Dorothy) Derr and Mrs. Robert (Marjorie) Sowers, all of
Ashland; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Treva
Hively of Sullivan and Mabel Howell of Ashland.
Graveside services will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Polk
Cemetery with the Rev. Donald Taylor officiating.
There will be no calling hours.
The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to
the Ashland County Cancer Association.

Funeral services for T. K.
(Keyser) Brownfield, 77, were held on Wednesday March 15 at 1 p. m. at the Henderson-Johnson
Funeral Home in Newark. He passed away
at Licking Memorial Hospital, where he had been a patient one week. He was a retired employee of the Kaiser
Aluminum at Newark. He was the last
member of a family of ten children. He
was born in Monroe County March 1, 1901, a son of the late Stephen and Lena
Wells Brownfield.
Surviving are his wife,
Mildred Carpenter Brownfield; two sons, Irvin A. of Florida and Harley D. of
Newark; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Two sons preceded him
in death.
Burial was made in Newark
Memorial Gardens at Newark.
Among those attending the
services were Adelia Graham, Mary Bowen, Josephine Lucas, Gladys Brownfield,

Ted Cariens,
Geff Man, Dies
Ted Cariens, 77, a Geff man who has been a patient in the
Cisne Manor in failing health was pronounced dead-on-arrival at 8:03 Sunday
morning at Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Cariens, a retired farmer, had been hospitalized
numerous times in the last year. He was
rushed to the hospital Sunday morning in a Hosselton ambulance.
Services
Tuesday
Services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at
Hosselton's Funeral Home, with Rev. James Pennington and Bro. Delbert Lawson
offficiating. Burial will be in the
Bestow Cemetery at Geff.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 9 p.m.
Monday (tonight).
Mr. Cariens was born in Cisne Apr. 2, 1901, the son of
Aratus and Ella (Pennington) Cariens.
He was first married to Edith Shreve in 1925. She died Apr. 11, 1951. He later married Ethel Greenhouse. She also preceded him in death.
Mr. Cariens farmed and later worked at Airtex Products as a
laborer. He was a member of the Rock
Branch General Baptist Church.
The Survivors
Surviving are one son, Clifford, of Cisne; four daughters,
Mrs. Bert (Veda) Withrow, of Rockford; Mrs. Donald (Doris) Smith of Church
Hill, Tenn.; Mrs. Ruby Girffith, of Parkersburg; Mrs. Teddy (Linda) Prosise, of Rockford; 17 grandchildren;
and four great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death was one brother, Edgar, one
sister, Zelda, one infant grandchild and his parents.

CALDWELL -- Rex Casey, 36, of Sarahsville, died at 11:30
p.m. Saturday (May 6, 1978) in Cambridge following an apparent heart attack.
He was born July 13, 1941, in Center Twp., Noble County,
the son of Charles and Betty Leach Casey, both of Sarahsville.
He was a member of Pleasant Hill Community Church, Olive
Lodge, 210 F&A.M., president of Shenandoah Boosters Club and manager of the
Credit Union of Gould Inc.
In addition to his parents, he leaves his wife Charlotte
Clark Casey of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Wendy Hughey of Caldwell R.D. 6
and Trudy Casey of the home; and two sons, Bradley and John Casey, both of the
home.
Calling hours will be observed at McVay Funeral Home at
Caldwell from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today.
Masonic services will be held at 7:30 p.m.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral
home with the Rev. Paul McGraw officiating.

Edwin Claus was born to Mr. and Mrs. Fred and Caroline Haffner
Claus
Mr. Claus came to Iowa in 1911 and worked at the carpenter
trade.
In December of 1914 he was united in marriage to Jennie
Callaghan. The couple farmed in Smithland vicinity until 1944, when they
retired and moved to Smithland. Mr. Claus was a long time member of the German
City Church.
Survivors include Mrs. Marvin Hagen of Spring Valley,
California, Mrs. Vernon Burkhart, of Smithland, Mrs. Darrell McNutt of Castana,
Iowa, and Richard of Solvang, California; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren
and one brother, Gilbert, of Lewisville. Those preceding him in death were his
wife Jennie, his parents, four brothers and sisters.
Funeral services were held in the German City Church. Burial
was in German City Cemetery.

Alva Francis Cole Jr., 54, of Rt. 2, died unexpectedly at 6
p.m. in Van Wert County Hospital.
He was born Sept. 13, 1924, in Wabash, a son of Alva F. and
Alice B. (Boley) Cole Sr. His mother
survives at 703 S. Walnut St.
Also surviving are his widow, the former Olive Schaffner,
whom he married June 5, 1948; three daughters, Mrs. Stephen (Barbara) Stadler
of Terre Haute, Ind., Karen Cole at home and Carol Jean Cole of Columbus; a
brother, L. M. Cole of Cavett Street and a grandchild.
Mr. Cole was employed by Chrysler Amplex in electrical
maintainence [sic--maintenance].
He served in the Naval Submarine Service during World War II and was a
life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of the Masonic Lodge.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Brickner
Funeral Home with the Rev. William Kallen officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery.
Friends may call after 1 p.m. Friday in the funeral home

Bertha M. Creamer, 79, Elwood, died at Mercy Hospital in
Elwood on January 4.
She was born in Brown County on March 22, 1898, to Thomas
and Rose Settles. She married Warnie
Creamer who survives her.
A housewife, Mrs. Creamer was a member of the Pentecostal
Greasy Creek Church.
She is survived by a son, T. Thomas Creamer, of Elwood; a
half brother, Don Smith, Nashville; two half sisters, Lottie Smith, Franklin;
and Ruby Wilson, Florida; 13 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, and 1 great
great grandchild.
One son preceded her in death.*
The funeral service was conducted last Saturday at the Bond
Funeral Home. Burial was in Green Lawn
Cemetery.

her adult son Francis Ray Creamer who died in 1970, the Greenlawn Cemetery

Woodrow C. Cronin, 65, of White Oak Run Rd., near Newell,
died today about 1:30 a.m. at Weirton General Hospial following a lingering
illness.
He was born Nov. 24, 1912, in St. Marys, W. Va., a son of
the late Benjamin K. Cronin and Alma Seckman Cronin.
Mr. Cronin was a World War II Army veteran. He served with the 54th Division in the
European Theater.
He was a retired contractor and bricklayer and also was a
retired kiln placer from the Homer Laughlin China Co.
Mr. Cronin was an honorary member of the IBPAW.
He was a member of Masonic Lodge 142 of Chester and its 142
Club, the 32nd Degree Scottish Rite of Wheeling Consistory, National
Association Legion of Honor in Wheeling, Osiris Temple of Wheeling, a past
president and member of the Northern Panhandle Shrine Club, and at one time, a
member of the Tin Lizzie Patrol and a Shrine Clown. He also was a past member of the Jesters of Osiris.
For years, Mr. Cronin served as chairman of providing
transportation for underprivileged children from the Northern Panhandle to the
Shrine Circus at Wheeling.
He also was a member of VFW Post 6450 of Chester and the
Newell American Legion.
Mr. Cronin is survived by his widow, Mrs. Evelyn Doughty
Cronin, at home; a brother. W. Edward Cronin of Midland; two sisters, Mrs.
Wayne (Evelyn) Barnes of Rochester, Pa., and Mrs. Carl (Lorraine) Staggers of
Chester.
Services will be
held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Arner Funeral Chapel of Chester by Terry Wells
of the Church. Burial will be in Locust
Hill Cemetery where the Chester Masonic Lodge will conduct committal
services. Friends may call at the
chapel Wednesday afternoon and evening.

The former Mary Schneider was born Nov. 24, 1918, in Iowa,
daughter of Mary Schneider, 215 Grand Ave., Merrill, and the late Clarence
Schneider. She was married May 20, 1939
to Ernest Culver, who survives.

Mrs. Roger Osterman, New Brighton, Minn.; a son, Larry, Fond du Luc, two
sisters, Mrs. LaVern Culver, Merrill Route 4, and Mrs. Quinten Schneider, 215
Grand Ave., Merrill; a brother, Cedric Schneider, Merrill Route 4; and two

SUNNYSIDE -- David R. Dahl, 65, of Sunnyside, died Tuesday
in Yakima hospital.
Mr. Dahl was born in 1912 at Calgary, Canada. His family moved to Washington in 1918 and
lived near Wiley City. Mr. Dahl married

Born 15 Nov 1888 in Toulon, Ill., he was the son of Michael
and Amelia Denney.

daughters, Mrs. Ethel Armstrong of Killeen, Texas and Mrs. Clarence (Edith)
Ring, Riceville, Iowa; 31 grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren and nine great-great

Services were held in the St. Mary's Catholic Church today
at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Thomas Doyle officiating. Burial was in the Wymore Cemetery near Rose Hill.

Michael Shawn* Dougherty, 19, of
Henderson, Texas.
He was the son of the late Kenneth Eugene and Ruth Berry
Dougherty. His father was a member of
the Parkersburg Police Dept. for several years prior to his death in 1971.
His grandmother, Mrs. Marie Dougherty, and other relatives
survive.
Interment was made in Henderson, Texas.

Police
called on apparent
suicide
Monday
morning Henderson police were called to the Orr Boarding House on North
Marshall Street to investigate an apparent suicide.
Michael
Sean Dougherty, 19, of 310 North Marshall was found dead beside the bed in his
room. Justice of the Peace Erwin W.
Doerge ruled Dougherty had committed suicide by gas inhalation and did not
order an autopsy. Time of death was
estimated to be 11:30 p.m. Sunday.
Police
were called to the scene at 10:52 a.m. and someone climbed a ladder to the
man's window. Dougherty was found dead
beside his bed with a plastic bag tied round his neck and also around a natural
gas jet which had been turned on.
Other
residents of the boarding house had reported something was wrong when they
smell gas in the hallway near Dougherty's room.
The man
who had no known living family was reportedly feeling depressed recently.
Graveside services for Dougherty were to be held at 3:30 p.m. today at
Lakewood Memorial Park with the Rev. Irvin Middlebusher officiating. Burial was under the direction of Crawford-A.
Crim Funeral Home.
A
resident of Henderson for seven months, Dougherty was born Oct. 13, 1959 in
Marietta, Ohio and was a 1977 graduate of Marietta High School.
He had
been employed at a local furniture manufacturer during his stay in Henderson.

Harold Goodballet, 89, of 1630 Shadyside Ave. died Monday
at 2:40 p.m. in City Hospital where he had been a patient since Wednesday,
after being in poor health several years.
He was born March 8, 1889, in Archers Fork, Ohio, a son of
Andrew Goodballet and Ellen Scott Goodballet, and had resided in this vicinity
since 1906.
Mr. Goodballet had been a kiln placer at the Homer Laughlin
China Co., retiring in 1967 with 60 years of service.
An honorary member of the IBPAW, he was also a member of
the First United Methodist Church and was a 68-year member of the Odd Fellows.
He was married in 1910 to Jemima Single Goodballet who preceded
him in death in 1946. His second wife, Mary Clark Goodballet to whom he was
married in 1947, preceded him in death in 1970.
Survivors include two sons, Keith Goodballet of East
Liverpool and John Goodballet of Thousand Oaks, Calif., a daughter, Mrs.
Ethelyn Trainer of East Liverpool, and 11 grandchildren and 25
great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the Martin
Funeral Home, with the Rev. Robert Veitch officiating. Burial will be in
Riverview Cemetery.

28, 1914, in East Liverpool, a son of Conrad A. Goodballet and Alice Reed
Goodballet.
He worked as a molder for Mackintosh Hemphill in
Midland. He was a member of St. John
Evangelical Lutheran Church and American Legion Post 736.
Besides his wife, Mrs. Thelma Louise Anthony Goodballet at
whom [sic–should be “home”], whom he married July 10, 1972, survivors include a
son, Joseph Boso of Atwater, four stepdaughters, Mrs. James (Albino) Stanley
and Mrs. Joseph (Darlene) Curran, both of East Liverpool, Mrs. Kenneth (Linda)
Cochran and Mrs. Fred (Zona) Crabtree, both of Wellsville; three stepsons,
Raymond (Bud) Boso, Ivan P. Ward and John C. Ward, all of East Liverpool; two
sisters, Mrs. Delores Moore of East Liverpool and Miss Thelma Goodballet of
Coral Springs, Fla., three grandchildren and 22 stepgrandchildren.
The rites will be conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. from the
Dawson Funeral Home by the Rev. Paul Hecktors.
Burial will be in Locust Hill Cemetery, Chester.

Mrs. Emma L. Hinderlong, 86, of
Sardis died Thursday morning, March 1, in Marietta Memorial Hospital.
She was born June 5, 1892, at
Sardis, a daughter of the late Edward and Anna Elizabeth Rufener Yoss.
Mrs. Hinderlong was a member Of The
Sardis Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her
husband, Fred Hinderlong, in 1964, and a son Sterling Hinderlong, in 1977.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs.
Bernard (Elda) Wohnhas, of Sardis; one sister, Mrs. Collie Stine, of New
Martinsville; one brother, Eugene Yoss, of Creston; three grandchildren, and
two great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at The
Rush Funeral Home, Sardis, on Saturday afternoon at two o'clock, with Dillon
Bayes officiating. Burial was in Sardis Cemetery.
Hogue, Ernest George Hogue
Mansfield --
Ernest G. Hogue, 76, of 2059 Park Avenue West died Friday afternoon in
Mansfield General Hospital. Mr. Hogue was born Dec. 15, 1917, in
Lewisville to George and Ethel Hogue, both now deceased, and lived in the
Mansfield area the past 40 years. He
retired from the Motorola Corp. in Phoenix and formerly was employed at Ohio
Bass. He attended the First English Lutheran Church and was a ham radio
operator.
He is survived by
two daughters, Beverly Shultz of Phoenix and Dorthy A. Hogue of Mansfield;
three grandchildren, Holly Rene, and David and Audrey Shultz, all of Phoenix;
four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Elmer Hogue of Columbus and Paul Hogue
of Baltimore, MD; and a sister, Ruth Hogue Oxley of Parkersburg, West Virginia.
He was
preceded in death by his wife, Mary A. Beck Hogue, on Feb. 22, 1993, and a
brother Clyde Hogue. Calling hours will
be Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral
Directors, where funeral services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. by the Rev.
Paul Lintern. Burial will be in Mansfield Mermorial Park.
Hogue, Wilbur Leroy Hogue
Wilbur Leroy Hogue, 68, of
Graysville Rt. 1, died Monday evening, July 9, 1978 at 10:30 p.m. in
Barnesville Hospital following a lengthy illness. He was born Dec 18, 1910, the
son of John Blanchard and Grace Hartshorn Hogue. Mr. Hogue was a retired oil
field worker and a member of the Hartshorn Ridge Church of Christ. Surviving
are his wife, Virginia Smith Hogue; a daughter, Ruth Ella Severns, of
Lewisville, Rt 1; a son James Coy Hogue, of Graysville, Rt. 1; three brothers,
Milford Hogue of San Jose , Calif.; Donald S. Hogue
of Lewisville Rt. 2, and John Hogue Jr., of Columbus: six grandchildren,
and seven great grandchildren. Friends were received at the Gardner Funeral
Home in Woodsfield on Wednesday. Funeral services were held Thursday
afternoon at two o'clock at the Hartshorn Ridge Church of Christ, with minister
Charles Hendershot officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery with the
Gardner Funeral Home in charge.

Mrs. Karen M. Hudson, 79, 731 Teal St., died at 6:30 a.m.
today at Major Hospital. She had been
hospitalized two weeks and in failing health two years.
A lifelong resident of Shelby County, Mrs. Hudson was born
in Brandywine Township, March 10, 1899, a daughter of Clarence "Jake"
and Sella (Young) Pope. On Nov. 3,
1920, she was married to Frank Hudson, who survives.
Also surviving are four children, Mrs. Donald (Lucille)
Fleener, St. Paul and Mrs. Dorothy Kinney, Everett Hudson and Howard Hudson,
all of Shelbyville; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one brother
and one sister, Charles Pope, Shelby County, and Mrs. Opal Lusk,
Shelbyville. One grandchild and six
brothers and sisters preceded in death.
Services will be announced by Murphy Mortuary.

Former Edinburgh
Girl Injured Fatally
In Wisconsin Accident
Susan E. Hughes, 19, Elkhorn, Wis., and formerly of Edinburgh,
died Saturday as a result of severe head injuries she received in a traffic
accident Friday night in that state.
Terry Adair, 26, 509 North Clay, Edinburgh, was listed in
satisfactory condition at the Elkhorn, Wisconsin Hospital.
Adair and Miss
Hughes were riding a motorcycle north on Wisconsin Highway 67 near Highway 12
at 11:04 p.m. Friday when a car driven by Kayla Dewitt, 21, Elk Grove, Ill.,
reportedly pulled in front of them, according to the accident report at the
Walworth County Wisconsin sheriff's department. Adair hit the Dewitt car, and the impact threw him and Miss
Hughes from the motorcycle, police said.
Adair suffered a broken right leg and arm. Miss Hughes received severe head injuries
and a broken right arm. Police were not
sure if the two were wearing helmets.
Wisconsin does not have a helmet law, police said. Persons in the Dewitt car were not injured.
Adair and Miss Hughes were taken to the Elkhorn Hospital by
Elkhorn Ambulance Service. Miss Hughes
was later transferred to another hospital.
Miss Hughes was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald G.
Hughes of Route 4, Box 122, Elkhorn, Wisc., former Edinburgh residents.
Funeral services conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Derskens
Funeral Home in Elkhorn with burial there.
Rainbow for Girls memorial service was at the funeral home at 8 o'clock
Monday night.
Miss Hughes was born Dec. 27, 1958 in Shelbyville.
She was a 1977 graduate of Edinburgh Community High School
and a past worship advisor of the Order of Rainbow for Girls at Edinburgh. She had moved with her family to Elkhorn
about 1 1/2 years ago.
Surviving with the parents are two sisters, Diana and
Sherri, both at home; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. William Rumple of
Indianapolis and paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hughes of Flat Rock.

Services for Mrs. Jessie M. Hyatt, 87, Preston, were at 1

Mrs. Hyatt died Friday in Sac-Osage Hospital in Osceola
after a long illness. She had been a patient
in the hospital for 10 days and had resided at Chastain's nursing home for over
two years.
She moved to Preston Community from Topeka, Ks.
Surviving are three sons, M. P. Hyatt, of Preston, Duane,
of Bardstown, Ky., and Charles of Tolleson, Ariz., and 15 grandchildren.

Tillie Jane Keener, 88, of 1238 Columbus Circle, died
Wednesday * morning at the Good Shepard Home following a short illness.
The daughter of John W. and Lisa Strickling Brown, she was
born in Monroe County April 26, 1889, and had been a resident of Ashland County
most of her life.
She was married Jan. 1, 1913 to Lester Samuel Keener, who
preceded her in death Feb. 18, 1966.
Surviving are one son, Clarence J. of Ashland; two
grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was a member of the Church of Christ.
Services will be at Gilbert Funeral Home Thursday at 1:30
p.m. conducted by Jack Gladwell. Burial
will be in Nankin Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m.
Wednesday.

Harold Wayne Kelp, 69, Route 1 Nashville, died at his home
last Sunday of an apparent heart attack.
The funeral service will be held this morning at 10:30 a.m. at the Bond
Funeral Home.
Kelp was born on February 1, 1909, in Brown County to
George and Rosa Percifield Kelp. He
married Doris Mathis on October 21, 1950, in Nashville and she survives him.
An Army veteran of World War II, Kelp was a member of the
Nashville Baptist Church. He was also a
retired truck driver.
Other survivors include four sons, Robert, David, Tim, and
Roger, all of Route 1 Nashville; and six daughters, Karen, Peggy, Shirley,
Mary, Rhonda and Kimberly Kelp, all of Route 1 Nashville.
He is also survived
by three brothers, Rex, Nineveh, and Dwight and Lester, both of Route 1
Nashville; and two sisters Wilma Bradley, Phoenix, Arizona, and Thelma McGee,
Route 1 Nashville. A daughter preceded
him in death.
Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery.

Mrs. Irene Archer Moore, Kent, 75, died Saturday at
Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness.
She was a native of Fitzgerald, daughter of the late

She was a member of First Christian Church.
Mrs. Kent was a retired home economics teacher, having
taught in the Waycross Schools System from 1946 until retirement in 1968.
She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Natalie Dorminy, Winter
Park, Fla.; two sons, Dr. Archer Moore, Macon, and William R. Moore, Atlanta; a
brother, Elmer Archer, Fitzgerald.

Born June 24, 1898, in Ashland County, he was the son of
Milton and Alice Kistler McClellan. He
was a retired farmer and a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ in
Loudonville.
His first wife, Bessie, preceded him in death in 1952.
Surviving are his wife, Torice; three sons, Ralph of RD,
Mansfield, Paul of Allen Park, Mich., and Clarence J. of RD 3, Ashland; 10
grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Services will be Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at Banks-Byerly
Funeral Home, Loudonville, with the Rev. Lester Dresch officiating. Burial will be in Nankin Cemetery.
Friends may call in the funeral home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9
p.m. today.

grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Hanlon and the paternal grandparents, Mr. and

Mrs. Frances McCullick, 68, of 510 Cherry Ave.,
Williamstown, died on arrival at Marietta Memorial Hospital last night.
She was born Dec. 24, 1909 in Washington County, a daughter
of the late Douglas and Clara Belle Medley McCurdy. She was married to Clyde McCullick who preceded her in death.
A daughter, Mrs. Patricia Hedrick of 634 Phillips St., and
three sons, Donald McCullick of Barberton, Robert McCullick of Kalkaska, Mich.;
and David McCullick of Gulfport, Miss., survive. Also surviving are a sister, Mrs. Jennie Rhodes of Thornton,
Colo., and a brother, Walter McCurdy. Two
brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.
There are 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

PALISADE -- William Thomas Meade, 58, of 3628 Road G710,
died Thursday following an extended illness.
Mr. Meade was a serviceman for the Ute Water Conservancy
District, and had previously worked for Climax Uranium for 18 years.
He was a member of the Palisade United Methodist Church and
the Palisade American Legion No. 50. He
served with the U.S. Army Air Corps in the European Theatre during World War
II. Mr. Meade enjoyed fishing.
Born April 10, 1920, at Calumet, Okla., he spent his
childhood in Oklahoma. He came to
Clifton in 1945, and married Betty Dolores Haines there Oct. 26, 1945. Mrs. Meade survives.

Betty; daughter, Miss Sandra Gaye Meade at home; son, Herbert Clyde Meade of
Clifton; sisters, Mrs. Artie Jung of Okarche, Okla., Mrs. Ruby Dennis of

Lula G. Morgenstern, 73, was found dead last night at her home at 3401 North
Broadway Ave. She died of natural
causes.
Born Aug. 30, 1905 at Caywood, she was a daughter of the
late George and Sophia Covey Snodgrass.
She had lived in Marietta until moving 2 1/2 years ago to Grove
City. She was a member of the Lynch
United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Mary Neader of
Cincinnati; two granddaughters and three great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs.
Blanche Vance of Crossnore, N.C.; and a brother, Charles Snodgrass of Marietta.
She was married to Edward Morgenstern on Sept. 30,
1921. He died in 1935. She also was preceded in death by a son, a
daughter, a brother and two sisters.

Clesson Cecil Morris, 80, of 306 Marion St., died at 9:30
a.m. yesterday in Marietta Memorial Hospital.
He was born July 15, 1898 at Wingett Run, a son of the late
William and Emma Moose Morris.
He had lived in Marietta since 1971, moving here from
Fenton, Mich. He was retired from the
Fisher Body Division of General Motors.
He was a veteran of World War I, a member of the Washington County Barracks No. 1079 to the Veterans of
World War I.
Surviving are his wife, the former Ruth Dye, whom he
married Nov. 6, 1971; a son Ray of Fenton, Mich.; two stepsons, Fred Dye of
Marietta and John Dye of Youngstown; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Mary Sprague of San
Antonio, Texas; five grandchildren, a great-grandson; 15 stepgrandchildren, and
seven stepgreat-grandchildren; and a brother Oval D. of Marietta.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, the former Mary
Steed, whom he married Nov. 14, 1922.
She died Jan. 11, 1965. He was
also preceded in death by a son, a stepson, three brothers and a sister.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Cawley &
Peoples Funeral Home with the Rev. James D. Shotwell officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home where
the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today and tomorrow.

Mrs. Patricia S. Morris, 49, of 733 Lang St. was dead on
arrival at City Hospital today at 6:45 a.m. after taking ill suddenly at home.
She was born Jan. 31, 1928, in East Liverpool, a daughter of Mrs. Irene (Bub) Sharkey Grimes of
East Liverpool and the late James P. Grimes.
She had resided here her lifetime.
Mrs. Morris had been a legal secretary, working for Atty.
Francis Lang for 14 years, and last working for Atty. Michael Kapp.
She was a member of the St. Aloysius Catholic Church and
its Altar and Rosary Society, the Catholic Daughters of America and was president
of the Auxiliary of the Disabled American Veterans.
In addition to her mother, survivors include her husband,
John F. Morris, to whom she was married June 16, 1947, and a son, James J.
Morris, at home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted Thursday at 10
a.m. at St. Aloysius Church. Burial
will be in Columbiana County Memorial Park.
Friends may call at the Dawson Funeral Home Wednesday
afternoon and night, where a wake service will be held Wednesday at 8 p.m.

Linden, MI., August 20, 1929,* and was a member of the United Methodist Church
of Linden and the United Methodist Church Mens Club, a US Navy Veteran of World
War II and spent 20 years as a home building contractor in the Linden and Fenton
area, was a Boy Scout Committee Man for 12 years and was a manager of a Little
League baseball team for 10 years.
Surviving are:
wife, Anna Patricia; 2 sons, Randall C. of Grand Rapids, and Michael R.
of Three Rivers; 3 daughters, Cheryl of Flint, Colleen at home and Kathy at
home; grandson, Jason; father, Clesson C. of Marietta, Ohio; brother, Ray of

Auto accidents took the lives of two northwestern Ohioans
over the weekend.
James A. Moyer, 20, Mount Corey, was killed Sunday night in
a car-truck accident at the main intersection of his hometown.
Charles Chapman, 91, Lima, died Saturday in St. Rita's
Medical Center as a result of injuries sustained in a two-car collision in Lima
the day before.

Order of Eastern Star No. 93 of Brush, and a past matron, had served seven
years as advisor to Rainbow for Girls and was a member of Chapter T, PEO.

Herbert C. Paulus,
1221 West Palm avenue, a Redlands resident for 18 years, died here Friday at
the age of 80.
Mr. Paulus, a native of Woodsfield, Ohio, became active in
the community after moving to Redlands.
He was a member of the Redlands Rotary club, Redlands Lodge 300 F &
AM and affiliated with the Masonic order for 53 years; a member of Redlands
Lawn Bowling club and Smiley Heights AARP chapter.
He served with the U.S. Navy during World War I.

Mrs. Ida M. Perry, 90, of 823 Green Ave SW was pronounced
dead on arrival at Massillon City Hospital Monday at 10 a.m. She was taken to the hospital by Stark
Ambulance Service. Her death followed a
brief illness. Mrs. Perry was born in
Woodsfield in Monroe County and lived in Massillon for 60 years. She was the widow of Joseph Perry who died
in May, 1947. She was a member of
Central Presbyterian Church and came to Massillon from Tarentum, Pa.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Willard (Dorothy)
Lantz of Massillon and Mrs. Audrey Lynch of Warren: two sons, Joseph Perry and
Dale Perry, both of Massillon; a sister Mrs. Mary Evans of Pompano Beach, Fla.;
nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

the Normal Funeral Home in Hope by the Rev. Wayne Bozell. Burial will be at the Sidney Cemetery near
St. Louis Crossing. Calling hours at
the funeral home will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and on Wednesday until time
of the service.
Mrs. Pope was born Jan. 1,* 1917, in Bartholomew County, to
Milton and Frances Ervin Wood. She was
married to Herbert Pope on Feb. 8, 1936, and he died Dec. 20, 1971. She had also been employed by the Amos
Plastics Company in Edinburgh.
Survivors include four sons, Floyd Pope of Route 11, Allan
and Tom Pope of Mt. Vernon; one daughter, Helen Burton of Franklin; two
brothers, Don Wood of St. Louis Crossing and Milo Wood of Clifford; three sisters,
Faustina Sims of St. Louis Crossing, Elma Graham of Waymansville and Mary Wood
of Greensburg; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one sister.

a week ago in a nursing home in that city.
Services were conducted Thursday at the Frank Funeral Home
in Flora with burial in the Hale Cemetery in Wayne City,
He was born in Illinois Oct. 22, 1912, the son of Charles
and Velda* (Hilliard) Powless.
He was a retired farmer.
Surviving are two daughters and two grandchildren.

ASHTABULA -- Mrs. Agnes L. Pratt, 81, of 521 W. 36th St.,
died at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Ashtabula General Hospital.
Born in Ashtabula Nov. 12, 1896, she was the daughter of
the late Joseph L. and Mildred Headley Heffron. She was a lifelong resident of this area.
Mrs. Pratt was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church,
Ladies Auxiliary of the V.F.W. and the Ashtabula County Historical Society.
Survivors include a cousin, Dana Headley of Ashtabula.
She was preceded in death by her husband Phillip on April
7, 1964.

Asbury C. Price, 80, 1307 East Fifth Street, died at 2:15
a.m. today in Fayette Memorial Hospital, where he had been admitted March
8. He had been in failing health the
past year.
Mr. Price was born December 5, 1897, in Greene County
Indiana, one of six children of Zachariah and Cynthia Britton Price. In 1937 he was married in Jeffersonville to
Mary Pauline McGrew of Louisville, Ky.
They resided in Louisville until 1944, when they came to Connersville
for residence. He had been employed as
a spray painter at Rex Manufacturing Company and its successor, Ford, until
retiring in 1965.
Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Norma Stanley
of Shelbyville and Mrs. Catherine Lozier of Louisville, Ky.; a son, Bobby Gene
Price of Jacksonville, N.C.; a stepson, Billy McGrew of San Diego, Calif.;
several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a brother, William Francis
Price of Shelbyville. Two sisters, two
brothers and two half-brothers preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. K. W. Chandler,
pastor of the First Baptist Church at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Miller Funeral Home,
where friends may call after 4 p.m. Tuesday.
Burial will be in Dale Cemetery.

Mrs. Genevieve Pyle Dies
Mrs. Philip (Genevieve) Pyle of Toulon, died early
Wednesday afternoon, April 6, 1978 at the home of her mother, Mrs. Winifred
Cinnamon in Toulon, after an extended illness.
Mrs. Pyle was born December 20, 1914 in Bureau County, the
daughter of Louis and Winifred (Turnbull) Cinnamon.
She was married to Philip T. Pyle, March 25, 1939 in
Memphis, Mo. He died May 21, 1971.
She is survived by two sons, Terry of Washington, Ill.,
Philip L. of Toulon; one daughter, Mrs. James (Mary Jane) Fisher of Washington,
Ill.; her mother, Mrs. Winifred Cinnamon, Toulon; three sisters, Mrs. Lucille
Frain, Miss Grace Cinnamon, both of Toulon and Mrs. Wilbur (Shirley) Packard of
Eureka; one brother, Cecil Cinnamon, Neponset; and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, father and one
grandson.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Toulon, the
American Legion Auxiliary Unit No. 416* and was Distribution Clerk at the
Toulon Post Office for 13* years.
Calling hours were held from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday night at
the Kidd Funeral Home with services at 1 p.m. on Saturday with Rev. Wayne
Brackett of the Toulon First Baptist Church officiating.
Mrs. Deann Allen was organist. Pallbearers were Floyd White, Ralph Gerard, Bob Claybaugh,
Marilyn Duncan, Roy Schmidt and Roy Bennett.
Burial was in the Toulon Cemetery.

at his residence. He was born in Wirt County, a son of the late William R. and

Cecil L. Rogers, 75, 421 E. Franklin St., died at 11:20
p.m. Friday at Major Hospital where he had been admitted that morning after
becoming ill suddenly.
He had resided in Shelbyville until moving to Indianapolis
in 1962 and then moved back here in 1973.
Mr. Rogers served with the Army in the European campaign during World
War II and belong to the Vine Street United Methodist Church.
Born July 27, 1903
in Needham, he was a son of Samuel and Catherine (Swango) Rogers.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Joanne Richey, Greensburg,
and a son, Donald Rogers of Arizona.
Three brothers and two sisters preceded in death.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Murphy

(June 16, 1978) at Barnesville Hospital following a lengthy illness.
He was born at Sandyville on April 21, 1924, to Joseph and
Dorothy Coli Scaffide. He operated the
Scaffide Hardware in Freeport and was a plumber by trade. He was a member of St. Matthias Catholic
Church and a World War II veteran.
He leaves his wife, Ruth Turner Scaffide; a son, Michael of
Gallipolis; two daughters, Mrs. Gene (Candice) Slack and Mrs. Richard (Lynn)
Dunlap of Freeport; two brothers, Joseph of Bolivar and Charlie of Sandyville;

at 6:45 p.m. in City Hospital following a long illness.
A World War II Navy veteran, Mr. Seevers was born March 13,

Schneider.
He was retired from the Crucible Steel Division of Colt
Industries.
Survivors include two daughters Mrs. James (Barbara) Jones

4 die in
fiery crash
GRANDVIEW -- Four Perry County girls, two of them sisters
and all of them Cannelton and Tell City residents, were killed Friday night in
a tragic fiery auto crash almost six miles east of Grandview on highway 66.
Dead are sisters Janice, 24, and Jeanette Simpson,21 of
1437 13th St., Tell City; Cheryl Young, 16, of 35 Pleasant Valley and Kim
Thorn, 16, of 656 E. Seventh, both of Cannelton.
It took state police several hours to determine the cause
of the accident that took place at 11:50 p.m.
Troopers said the vehicle driven by Miss Young was enroute west and
apparently crossed the center line in front of the Simpson vehicle.
Both cars were 1972 Ford Torinos. The autos burst into flames upon impact, state police said. Three of the bodies were burned extensively. A fourth was thrown from the wreckage and
burned slightly.
All died from internal injuries, according to police.
Relatives of the Simpson girls said the sisters had been
shopping in Evansville. The girls had
told their mother that they may be late returning to Tell City if a movie was
playing. They had apparently stayed
late for the meeting.
Janice was the valedictorian of her graduating class of
1972. She was also a graduate from
Indiana State University, Terre Haute and had taken post-graduate classes in
vocal training at the University of Louisville. She was recently named as the religious instruction coordinator
at St. Paul's Catholic Church.
Jeanette graduated with honors from Tell City High
School. She was a senior at ISU, Terre
Haute and would have graduated in May.
Funeral arrangements were pending Saturday morning at
Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home for the Simpson girls.
They were the daughters of Mrs. Frieda (Rothwell) Simpson.
Their father, Ralph, died Jan. 30. 1975. Survivors in addition to their mother include
a brother, John.

Oldtimer at Geff Dies
at Altamont Nursing
Home
A native of the Geff community, Olof E. Simpson, 88, died
Friday at 12:45 p.m. at the Pleasant Acre Nursing Home in Altamont.
He suffered a massive stroke a year and a half ago after
which he entered the home.
He was the father of Mrs. Hugh Cisne, of Geff.
Visitation Tonight
The remains were moved to the Hosselton Funeral Home in
Cisne where visitation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday evening
(tonight). Final rites will be held at
the funeral home at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday with Bro. Tom Rippy in charge. Burial will follow in the Oak Valley Baptist
cemetery.
Mr. Simpson was born on a farm west of Geff in the Oak
Valley community on March 3, 1890, the son of John W. and Emily Simpson. He lived in that area many years.
He was married to Ida Mae Davis at Geff in 1912 and to this
union one daughter, Norma, wife of Hugh Cisne, of Geff, and one son, John W.
Simpson, of St. Louis, now deceased, was born.
She died in 1917.
Married Again
He was married to Beulah Hilliard on January 10, 1919,* and
to this union were born two daughters, Emma,wife of Vernon Duncan, of
Jacksonville, Fla.; and Mary, wife of Lewis Folwer, of Bloomington, Ill.; four
sons, Olof, Jr., of Streator, Ill.; Roscoe, of Rutland; James, near
Collinsville; and Ira, of Decatur.
Years ago, the family moved to northern Illinois and
settled in the Rutland-Wenona area where he farmed and worked for a grain
elevator. Later he moved to Kinmundy
and lived there until his health failed and he was moved to the nursing home.
He was a long time member of the Oak Valley Baptist church.

Born June 6, 1922 in Shelbyville, a son of Ralph and Lela
(Cherry) Stilabower, he was married June 27, 1971 to Margie Irvin, who
survives.

Mrs. C.B. Taylor, 95, Woodsfield, Ohio R. D. 3, died
Thursday, December 28, 1978, at Barnesville Hospital, Barnesville, Ohio
following an illness.
She was born June 1, 1883, at Lewisville, Ohio, the daughter
of Michael and Mollie Frank Young. She was a member of Trinity United Church of
Christ at Lewisville. Her husband, C. B. Taylor, died in 1962.
She leaves several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call until 9 p.m. today at Bauer and Turner
Funeral Home, Woodsfield, Ohio, where services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday
with Minister Muriel Pool officiating. Burial will be in St. John’s Middle
Church Cemetery, Lewisville, Ohio, R. D. 1.

ALBANY -- J. E. (Elmer) Thomas, 79, Albany, died Friday at
University Hospital in Columbus.
Born in Washington County, Ohio, he was the son of the late
Albert and Sarah Thomas. He was a
retired oilwell worker.
He is survived [by]* his wife, Myrtle Mendenhall Thomas;
three sons, Harley of Chillicothe, Lloyd of Albany, and Paul of Charleston, W.
Va.; two daughters, Opal Colburn of Albany and Helen Parker of El Paso, Texas;
two sisters, Amanda Westbrook and Martha Westbrook, both of Marietta, one
brother, Oscar Thomas of Marietta; and 14 grandchildren and four
greatgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother Everett.
Services will [be]* Monday, 2 p.m., at the Bigony-Jordan
Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerry Griffith offiating [sic–officiating]. Burial will be in the Alexander

ALBANY -- Mrs. Myrtle M. Thomas, 77, of State Street, died
Sunday at Arcadia Nursing Home, Coolville.
Born in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late
Daniel and Elisa Herlan Mendenhall. She
was a member of the Pine Ridge United Methodist Church.
She is survived by three sons, Harley of Chillicothe, Lloyd
of Albany, and Paul of Charleston, W.Va.; two daughters, Opal Colburn of
Albany, and Helen Parker of El Paso, Texas; 14 grandchildren and four
great-grandchildren; and three sisters; Edna Mendenhall of Detroit, Mich.,
Marie Kirkbride of Elyria, and Mary Bowersock of Bay City, Mich.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, J.E. Thomas,
and a brother, John Mendenhall.
Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Bigony-Jordan
Funeral Home, with the Rev. Donald Shue officiating. Burial will be at Alexander Cemtery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. today.

Wednesday at Veteran's Hospital in Indianapolis. He had been ill two months and in the hospital three weeks.

Reed and Jewell Funeral Home. Burial
will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.

Thompson was born May 1, 1924, in Marion County to Curt and
Josie Childers Thompson. A veteran of
World War II and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, he lived most of his
life in Columbus and was a self-employed carpenter.
Survivors include four daughters, Beverly Carmer and Becky
Sue Thompson, both of 1328 Franklin, Shirley Abner of Columbus and Kathlene
Thompson of 1217 Lafayette; seven sons, Harold Thompson of Lowell Addition,
Gerald Thompson of Eighth Street, Tommy Thompson of Route 11 and Lloyd Thompson
Jr., Ronnie, David and John Thompson, all of 1217 Lafayette; four brothers, Ben
Thompson of 523 S. Mapleton, Glen Thompson of Lowell Addition, Floyd and Harry
Thompson, both of 1303 Hutchins; a half brother, Roy Deal of Edinburgh; a half

3, died Tuesday afternoon at Indiana University Hospital in Indianapolis. She was the sister of Freda Gardner of
Edinburgh.
Funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at
Gospel Assembly of Indianapolis, 5809 Bluff, by Joe Hazlett.
Persons may call today at Vandiver-Tudor Funeral Home in
Franklin and from 9 a.m. until time of service Saturday at the church. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memorial
Gardens in Greenwood.
Mrs. Tuley was born Oct. 6, 1924, in Brown County to the
late Edmond Stanford and Zelma Wells Stanford of Franklin. She was married to Bill J.* Tuley Dec. 17,
1954, at Shelbyville and he survives.
Other survivors include a son, Lincoln Tuley, at home, and
two other sisters, Mae Smith of Franklin and Audrey Fitzgerald of Morgantown.

Charles E. Voland, 81, 612 E. N. "D" St., Gas City, will be at 2 p.m.

officiate and burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Gas City.
Mr. Voland died at 2:55 p.m. Sunday in the Marion VA
Hospital after a long illness.

Voland, 54, Houston, Tex., died April 27 in Houston, Tex.
Mr. Voland was a native of Gas City and had resided in
Houston for seven years.
Survivors include his wife, Maria; four daughters, Yvonne
Voland, Houston, Tex., Carrie, Lauri and Jan Voland, all of Indiana; five sons,
George William Jr., Jimmy Joe, William, Kirk and Jack Voland, all of Indiana;
seven brothers, Gwendal [sic], Bud and Ira Voland, all of Houston, and Leevon
[sic] Lee Fennell, Larry Fennell, James William Voland and Jerry Voland, all of
Indiana, and four sisters, Mrs. Carolyn Heights, Mrs. Mary Hammond, and Olga
Fennell, all of Indiana, and Freida Fennell, Houston.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. today in the Felix H.
Morales and Son Funeral Home, Houston, with Mass at 11:15 a.m. today in Our
Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church,Houston.
Father Thomas will officiate and burial will be in National Cemetery,
Houston, with full military honors.

Voland, 76, 812 E. N. "D" St., Gas City, died at 11:15 a.m. Wednesday
in Marion General Hospital.
A native of Huntington County, Mrs. Voland was a member of
the Church of God of Prophecy, Gas City.
Survivors include her husband, Charles; three sons, Floyd,

Oral Thomas (Ory) Voland, 77, died December 24 at
Bartholomew County Hospital after a four-year illness.
Voland was well-known in Brown County, having served as
county surveyor for 26 years. He lived
at his home on Greasy Creek Road for 56 years.
He was a member of the Nazarene Church in Nashville.
Voland was born in Brown County October 4, 1900, the son of
John and Louisa (Acton) Voland.
He was one of 11 children.
Only one of the children, Charles Voland of the Soldiers Home, Marion,
Indiana, survives.
Voland is survived by his wife, Florence Margaret (Bradley)
Voland. The couple had been married on
April 4, 1921.
Other survivors include two sons, Howard Voland of Route 5
Nashville and Elmo Voland of Indianapolis; a daughter, Mrs. Mabel Sisson of
Route 4 Nashville; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
A third son, Elmer, died in infancy.
A funeral service was conducted last Tuesday, December
27, at the Bond Funeral Home in Nashville.
The Rev. Don Ratliff officiated.
Burial was at Greenlawn Cemetery in Nashville.

George Wear, 68, of 1032 Carolina St., died Sunday in a
local hospital after a long illness.
A native of Friend, Neb., he lived in Vallejo for 39 years.
He was a retired appliance repairman at the Ed Pierce Electric Company.
Wear is survived by his wife, Mildred; four sons, Donald,
Vernon and Larry, all of Vallejo and Ronald of Green Valley; two sisters, Mayme
Mendenhall of Hastings, Neb., and Bernice Moore of Rogers, Ark.; three
grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Wiggins
Funeral Home with the Rev. Hugh Stewart of the First Presbyterian Church
officiating.
Private intombment will be in Skyview Memorial Lawn.
Friends may call after 9 a.m. today at the Wiggins Funeral Home.

Millersburg, died Wednesday evening at Pomerene Memorial Hospital after a long
illness.
Services will be Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Elliott-Hartline

He was born in Fairmount,* W. Va. to Ray and Martha Blair
Wilson. He married Lura Sloane, who
survives. He was a truck driver and
veteran of the Korean War.
Also surviving are four sons, Chester B. and John of the
home, Vernon of Millersburg and Lloyd of Marietta; a daughter, Carol Ames of
Millersburg; a grandson; his mother; a brother, Kenneth; and a sister, Mrs.
Richard (Barbara) Myers, all of Millersburg.
His father, two brothers and a sister died previously.

LYONS -- Clyde Workman Jr., 56, of Lyons, died at 9:30 a.m.
Sunday at his home.
Born Aug. 18, 1922, in Greene County, he was the son of
Clyde and Sadie (Page) Workman.
He was a member of the Lyons American Legion, Lyons Fire
Department, and past treasurer of the Lyons Community Club. He was also a member of the L & M School
Advisory Board and attended the Lyons Christian Church. He was a veteran of WW II.
Surviving are his wife, Helen (Cox); three daughters, Mrs.
Connie Lewis, Linton, Mrs. Kay Sisk, Newberry, and Mrs. Debbie McCallum,
Westphalia; two brothers, Ray Workman, Bicknell, and Fred Workman,
Merrillville; three sisters, Mrs. Jessie King, Winchester, Mrs. Jean Fisher,
Plainville, and Mrs. Helen Mullis, Lyons; a half sister, Mrs. B. E. Mowery, Caney;
and five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Lyons
Christian Church with the Rev. Tom Osborn officiating. Burial will follow in Prairie Chapel
Cemetery.

Raymond A. Wright, 44, of Pine Grove, W.Va., died Tuesday,
Nov. 28, 1978 in Ohio Valley Medical Center.
He was a member of Faith Temple, Middlebourne, W.Va., and a boiler
maker.
Surviving are his wife, Lois Kelley Wright; three sons,
Mike of Pine Grove, Tony and Greg both at home, a daughter, Stacy Wright at
home; a sister, Ethel Mae Elson of Reader, W.Va.
Friends were received at the Palmer Funeral Home, Pine
Grove, where services were held Friday.
Interment in K of P Cemetery, Hastings.
