Ackelson, Frank B. Ackelson, Jr.

        Frank B. Ackelson Jr., 82, of 250 Continental Drive died at 12:47 p.m. Saturday at Salem Community Hospital folowng [sic--following] a one-year illness.

        Born Feb. 17, 1909 in Salem he was the son of the late Frank B. and Rosa (McQuiston) Ackelson.

        Mr. Ackelson, a World War II Army veteran, was employed in the order department at Crane Deming Company, retiring in 1974 following 38 years of service.  He was a member of the Lord of Life Church in Canfield, Perry Lodge 185 F & A M and Scottish Rite of Youngstown.  He was also a past master of Perry Lodge of Salem and a member and past patron of the Order of Eastern Stars Chapter 334 of Salem.

 

Amidon, Sigmond L. Amidon

        MINGO  JUNCTION -- Sigmond L. Amidon, 78, of Mingo Junction, an employee of the Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp. chemical lab until his retirement, was pronounced dead on arrival Aug. 25, 1991, in St. John Medical Center's emergency room.

        He was Protestant by faith.

        Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Carl (Charlotte) Muia of Seattle and Mrs. Gerald (Karen) Lane of Mingo Junction; a son, Roger of Seattle; a sister, Mrs. Aniceto (Ruth) Carneiro of Jupiter, Fla.; and four grandchildren.

        He was born Feb. 8, 1913, in Steubenville, a son of the late Ray and Lottie Riley Amidon.

        Friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at McClave-Chandler-Mills Funeral Home, downtown; services there at 11 a.m. Wednesday, the Rev. Robert Glasgow; Union Cemetery.

 

Amrhein, Edmund Louis Amrhein

        Edmund Louis, 80, of Mount Olivet, died Sunday in Wheeling Hospital.  He was a retired employee of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp., Steubenville plant, a member of St. John United Church of Christ, Wheeling, and a Navy veteran of World War II.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Edmund and Ella Filben Amrhein.  Surviving are his wife, Mary Elizabeth Eckhardt Amrhein; two daughters, Mrs. Donald  (Lynn) Blazina of Chicago and Barbara Sloan of Cincinnati; a granddaughter, Michelle Blazina of Chicago.  Friends received 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 1400 Eoff St., Wheeling,  Arrangements are incomplete.

Baker, Lillian June Baker nee Schindewolf

          Lillian `June' Baker, 67, died July 3 at Little Forest Nursing Home after a lengthy illness.

          Mrs. Baker was born in Akron and was a resident of the area all of her life. She was a member of the Barberton Seventh Day, Adventist Church.

          She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Danna Baker of Houston, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Fred Smith of Akron; grandchildren, Christina, Erin and Daniel; sisters, Dorothy Quier, Caroline Carroll both of Akron.

          Graveside services, Friday, 1 p.m. at Mount Peace Cemetery, 183 Aqueduct St., Akron, 44303.  Pastor Greg Schaller officiating.  There will be no visitation.  Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 3085 W. Market St., Akron, OH 44313.  (Hopkins Lawver, Akron, 733-6271.)

Of Jackson, passed away Jan. 1, 1991, age 70 years.  Surviving are two daughters, Carol Oliver and Mrs. Thomas (Michele) Pahl; one son, Kim Belesky; eight grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Doris Donnelly.  Mrs. Belesky has been cremated.  There is no visitation.  Private services will be held later.

Bessey, Beatrice J. Bessey, nee Burtner

        A memorial service has been scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church of Corcoran for Beatrice J. Bessey who died Thursday.

        She was a retired teacher for the Corcoran Unified School District.

        Survivors include her husband, Roscoe Bessey of Corcoran; two sons, Stanley Bessey of Visalia and Donald Bessey of Hayward; one daughter, June* Lusk of Oregon; one brother, Milton Burtner of Terra Bella; one sister, Helen Sanderson of Berry Creek; and one grandchild.

Blackstone, Charles Franklin Blackstone Jr.

Charles Franklin Blackstone Jr., 29, 4977 Avery Road, Amlin, OH, formerly of Lewisville, died Feburary 9, 1991, in Mount Carmel  West Hospital, Columbus, as the result of an automobile accident. He was a graduate of Skyvue High School, a construction worker, and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, near Lewisville.  He was born at Barnesville August 3, 1961, a son of Charles Franklin and Wanda Blackstone, who survive of Route 2, Lewisville.

Surviving in addition to his parents are his wife, Carol Bish Blackstone of the home; three daughters, Jessica Lee, Nichole Lynn Blackstone, both of Lewisville, and Sabrina Blackstone of Amlin; a stepson, Donald Bish, Lewisville, three brothers survive, Gregory, Mitchell and Jason, all of Lewisville; four sisters, Mrs. Keith (Rebecca) Geehring and Karen Blackstone, both of Lewisville, and Mrs. Elson(Marilyn) Hinkle and Pamela  Blackstone, both of Woodsfield; paternal grandmother, Mrs. Mildred Blackstone, Lewisville, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Mark A. Blackstone in 1978.

Friends were received February 12, at Watter's Funeral Home, Woodsfield.  Funeral liturgy and Mass celebrated at 11 a.m. February 13, in St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev.Samuel Saprano as celebrant. Interment in St.Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Lewisville. Vigil services were held at 7:30 p.m. February 12 at the funeral home.

 

Blythe, Kenneth T. Blythe

        Kenneth T. Blythe, 78, of rural Spencerville, Ohio, died Monday in St. Luke Hospital, Fargo, N.D.

        The Van Wert County native was a farmer, school bus driver and 16-year township trustee.

        Surviving are his wife, Junia; daughters, Marianne Ewing and Elizabeth Youngpeter, both of Spencerville; son, Samuel B. of Spencerville; sisters, Kathryne Dunlap of Middle Point, Ohio, and Kouneta Stanton of Summerfield, Fla.; seven grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; a great-grandchild; and five stepgreat-grandchildren.

        Services are 10:30 a.m. (Ohio time) Saturday in Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home, Spencerville, where calling is 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow, with a Masonic memorial service at 9 p.m. Burial will be in Spencerville Cemetery.

        NEWELL -- A Mass of Christian Burial is to be celebrated Thursday for Ralph J. Booher, 69, of Grant Street, who died at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, 1991, at City Hospital following a lengthy illness.

        He was born in Newell June 2, 1922, a son of the late Melvin and Mary Booher.

        Mr. Booher was a stamper 35 years at the former Crucible Steel Co. before retiring.  He served with the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II, and was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Newell American Legion Post.

        Survivors include his wife, Cora Mercer Booher, at home; a daughter, Mary Lynn (Mrs. Mike) Halstead of Newell; a son, James R. Booher of Wellsville; a brother, Phillip Pelley of Newell; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

        The Rev. Charles Savage is to be celebrant of the Mass at 10 a.m. at the church.  Burial is to be in Shadow Lawn Memory Gardens.

        No calling hours are planned.

        The Dawson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

 

Brown, Alonzo Dale Brown

Alonzo Brown, 70, retired from TS&T

        East Liverpool – Alonzo D. Brown, age 70, of Annesley Road, East Liverpool, died Oct. 25 at 2:55 p.m. at City Hospital after a one month illness.

        He was born in St. Marys, W. Va., on Sept. 17, 1921, the son of the late Alonzo Albert Brown and Gertrude Full Brown. He lived in the area since 1933.

        He was employed as a foreman in the glaze department of the former Taylor Smith and Taylor pottery for 20 years, retiring in 1976. He was also a 1939 graduate of the Wells High School in Newell, and attended two years of business college.

        He was Baptist by faith and was a member of Lodge 142 Free & Accepted Masons of Chester.

        He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline F. Buchanan Brown on Dec. 9 1987. They were married Dec. 31, 1974.

        Survivors include a son, Master Gunnery Sargeant Alonzo W. Brown of Louisville, Ky; two sisters, Mrs. Marilyn (Jack) Dixon of Melbourne, Fla., and Mrs. Norma (Lee) Blakely of Wellsville; two grandchildren and one great- grandchild.

        Services will be held at the Martin Funeral Home in East Liverpool at 1 p. m. Monday with the Rev. Steve Alexander of the First Christian Church of Wellsville officiating.

        Burial will follow in Locust Hill Cemetery in Chester where Masonic Services will be held by the Chester Lodge 142. Friends may call at the funeral home from noon to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday.

 

Brown, John D. Brown

        John D. Brown, 75, of 1471 Troy Road, Lot 54, died Friday evening in Samaritan Hospital.

        He was born June 5, 1915, in Ashland, the son of Clarence Elvy and Effie Rosella McBride Brown.

        He was a member of the Steele Avenue Church of Christ.  He retired Jan. 1, 1981 from the city of Ashland, as supervisor of the water treatment plant.

        Surviving are his wife, Fern Moffett Brown, to whom he was married Aug. 29, 1936; two daughters, Marilyn Stumbaugh of Ashland and Mrs. Rick (Rosena) Stephens of Mansfield; one son, James D. of Sacramento, Calif.; 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Kenneth (Mary) Cobbler of Ashland and two brothers, Carl of Alliance and Howard of Port Aransas, Texas.

        He was preceded in death by three sons, Richard, Clarence and Gerald.

        Services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Gilbert Van Hove Funeral Home and Chapel with pastor Travis Irwin officiating.  Burial will be in Ashland County Memorial Park.

        Friends may call today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

        The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Ashland County Inc.

 

Bunting, James Thomas Bunting

       James Thomas Bunting, 61, Barnesville, died Dec. 12, 1991 in Barnesville Hospital. He was born March 20, 1930 in Barnesville.

       He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Otto Bunting; his mother, Ethel Wright; and a brother, Francis Bunting.

       Surviving are one son, Richard of Woodsfield; two daughters, Teresa Lynn Hoover and Christina Bunting, both of Brilliant; one sister, Joan Gora of Cleveland and three grandchildren.

       Services were held at the Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home Sunday afternoon.

       Burial followed in Stafford Cemetery, Stafford.

Cariens, Flora Cariens, nee Smith

        Mrs. Flora Cariens, 92, of Geff, died at 9:40 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 24, 1991, at Way-Fair Restorium.

        She had been a resident at Way-Fair since 1982.

Rites  Tuesday

        Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday from the Geff United Methodist Church, with burial in Bestow cemetery in Geff.  Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday from the Hosselton Funeral Home in Cisne, and from 9 a.m. to the funeral hour Tuesday at the Geff United Methodist Church.

        She was born Aug. 6, 1898, at Geff, the daughter of William Hester and Martha Jelley Smith.

Wed  In  Fairfield

        She was married in Fairfield to Edgar Cariens Sept. 9, 1919, in Fairfield.  He preceded her in death, Mar. 19, 1968.  . . . . member of the Geff United Methodist Church and of the Geff Women's Club.

        Surviving are a son-in-law, Russel Hilliard of Geff; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

        DENNISON -- Junior Richard "Jake" Carpenter, 51, of 217 1/2 Center St., Dennison, died Friday, Feb. 22, 1991, at his residence after a brief illness.

        Born Dec. 28, 1939, in Calais, in Monroe County, he was a son of the late Otto and Harriet L. (Leach) Carpenter.

        He was employed as a laborer at Joe Pangrazio Transportation Service and Pizza Shop.

        He was a member of the Dennison Eagles lodge.

        Surviving are five brothers, Clayton J. of Port Washington, William T. and Tom, both of Uhrichsville, and Leonard and Dennis J., both of Dennison; four sisters, Mrs. Beulah I. Henry of Uhrichsville Route 1, Linda M. Carpenter of Dennison, Mrs. Robert (Wilma) Briggs of New Philadelphia and Wanda Miller of Coshocton.

        Services are 1 p.m. Tuesday at the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison, with the Rev. A. J. Johnson officiating.  Burial will follow at Union Cemetery in Dennison.

        Friends may call 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

        Gladys M. Cathers, 82, of California Street, died at 5 p.m. Thursday at Bartholomew County Hospital.

        She had been a bookkeeper at First National Bank for several years, retiring May 29, 1971.  She was a member of Memorial Baptist Church.

        Funeral will be conducted by the Revs. Rex Humphrey and Jerry Day at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Norman Funeral Home at Hope, where calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday.  Burial will be at Hope Moravian Cemetery.

        Memorials may be made to the donor's choice of charities.

        Born July 2, 1909, in Shelby County, Mrs. Cathers was the daughter of Bert and Lona Pope Campbell.  She married Dale E. Cathers Dec. 22, 1943.  He died May 5, 1982.

        Surviving are sisters, Hazel Hendrickson and Mary Gruhl, both of Hope, and several nieces and nephews.

        She was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Hayes, on Wednesday, and brothers, Paul, Fred and Charles Campbell.

 

Chapple, James F. Chapple

        James F. Chapple, 64, of Evansville, died at 7:50 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mary’s Medical Center after a long illness.

        He retired from Bristol-Myers, where he was an operator in the power house.

He was a member of Fairlawn United Methodist Church.

        Surviving are his wife of 41 years, Dorothy; two daughters, Karen Stevens and Toni Brinson, both of Evansville; a son Michael of Evansville; his mother, Rose A. Chapple of Tell City, Ind.; three sisters, Agnes Siscel and Betty Mayfield, both of Evansville and Louise Gilliland of McAllen, Texas; and six grandchildren.

        Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Alexander Funeral Home East Chapel, with the Rev. Joe Miller officiating with burial in Park Lawn Cemetery.

        Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

    Eunice Hannahs Christman, 76, of 3438 Miltonsburg-Calais Road, Woodsfield, died early on the morning of October 26, 1991, at the Barnesville Hospital, Barnesville, Ohio.
    She was born June 15, 1915, in Monroe County, Ohio, a daughter of the late Glen and Patience Carpenter Hannahs. She was a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ in Lewisville, Ohio.
    She is survived by her husband, Eldon Christman, Woodsfield; one son, Ron Christman, Deltona, Florida; one daughter, Glenda Reich, Miltonsburg, Ohio; one brother, Lloyd Hannahs, Quaker City, Ohio; four grandchildren.
    She was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold and Wayne Hannahs.

    There was no visitation. Private services were held October 28, at the Trinity United Church of Christ, Lewisville with the Reverend Ed. Thurmond and Reverend Gary Wilson officiating. Burial was in the Middle Church cemetery with Bauer-Turner Funeral Home, Woodsfield in charge of arrangements.

        WOODSFIELD -- Margaret L. Christman, 67, of 47660 Ohio 800, Woodsfield, died early Wednesday (May 22, 1991) in Marietta Memorial Hospital.

        Mrs. Christman was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ at Woodsfield.  She was born Feb. 13, 1925, in Monroe County to Carl and Ella Book Kimpel.

        In addition to her mother of Roseville, she is survived by her husband, Clayton Christman; four sons, Clayton Jr. of Clarington, and David, Dan and Dean, all of Woodsfield; two daughters, Susan Dick of Lewisville and Holly Dick of Woodsfield; three brothers, Samuel Kimpel of Westerville, Charles Kimpel of Roseville and Roy Kimpel of Somerset; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

         Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in St. Paul's United Church of Christ at Woodsfield with the Rev. Michael Dowd officiating.  Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.  Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Bauer-Turner Funeral Home in Woodsfield.

    Freda E. Christy, 92, of 107 East Church Street, Woodsfield, Ohio died at 10:45 p.m. October 6, 1991, in the Barnesville Hospital, Barnesville, Ohio.
    She was born near Graysville, Ohio on January 19, 1899, a daughter of the late Forrest and Nettie Whitacre Mobberly.
    She was a member of the Church of Christ and a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and had assisted her husband in may activities throughout the years.
    She is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Fred (Ethel) Dougherty of Woodsfield, Mrs. Emerson (Marjorie) Scott of Willcox, Arizona, Mrs. Glenn (Donna) Baker of New Albany, and Mrs. Cyril (Shirley) Weagle of Chico, California; two sons, Robert R. Christy of Dayton and Tommy Lee Christy of Lewisville; one sister Mrs. Mabel Earley of Wheeling, West Virginia; 12
grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
    She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas A. Christy on June 13, 1979.
    Friends were received at the Watters Funeral Home, Woodsfield from 3-9 p.m. October 9 where funeral services were held at 1 p.m. October 10 with Ministers Harry Summers and John Hamilton officiating. Burial followed in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Route 1, Graysville.

        SPRING  GROVE, Ill. -- Lillian E. Conner, 69, died Saturday, April 20, 1991, at Northern Illinois Medical Center in McHenry, Ill.

        A native of Perry County, she was born April 21, 1921; the daughter of the late Theo and Mamie (Simpson) Willgus.  On Oct. 15, 1938, she was united in marriage in Rockport to Leo "Tom" Conner, who preceded her in death on Nov.14, 1984.

        She was a machine operator at Intermatic Corp. in Spring Grove, for 10 years, retiring in 1971.

        Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Robert (Donna) Sanders and Sharon Lively, both of Spring Grove; and Mrs. Joseph (Brenda) Mistretta of Clarkdale, Ariz.; three sons, Robert Conner of Sioux Falls, S.D., Jerry Conner of Tarpon Springs, Fla., and James Conner of McHenry; two sisters, Olive Kleeman of Tell City and Audrey Hess of Cannelton; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

        Services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 23, at Ehorn-Adams Funeral Home in Richmond, Ill., the Rev. Glenn Mensing officiated, with interment in Cedarvale Cemetery in Solon Mills, Ill.

   Bertha Marie Matz was born October 10, 1943, at Lewisville, Ohio. Bertha and Troy Cranmore were married May 8, 1959
   Troy was born December 20, 1933, near Dayton, Tennessee, the son of Daniel and Eva Schouggins Cranmore.
   Troy was employed at U-Brand since about 1970 on 71. He retired May 24, 1989, as a molder and was a member of the U-Brand 20 plus Club.
   Troy died Monday afternoon, December 9, 1991, in Samaritan Hospital following a long illness.
   Services were held Thursday, December 12, 1991, at 1 p.m. in the Denbow-Primm Funeral Home with Tarvis Irwin, minister, officiating.  Burial was in Ashland County Memorial Park.

        Henderson -- The Rev. James “Jack” Cravens, 77, died at 5:15 pm Thursday at Community Methodist Hospital.

        The World War II Army veteran was a member of Mount Zion General Baptist Church and a trustee of Mount Zion Cemetery. 

        Surviving are his wife, Emma; a son, Ronald of Henderson; three sisters, Lola Doehoeffner of Louisville, Irene Brown of Evansville and Anna Lois VanCleave of Reed; two brothers, Paul of Baskett and Rueben of St. Louis; four grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

        Services will be at 2 pm Sunday at Benton-Glunt Funeral Home with burial in Mount Zion Cemetery.

        Friends may call after 11 am today at the funeral home.

        Memorial contributions may be made to Kosair Children’s Hospital in Louisville.

        SPOTTSVILLE - The Rev. James ''Jack'' Cravens, 77, of Spottsville, died Thursday, July, 4, 1991, at Community Methodist Hospital, Henderson. His first pastorate was the Mt. Zion General Baptist Church, Reed. He later served as pastor of several churches in the southern Indiana area. He was a trustee of the Mt. Zion Cemetery board and was the pastor of the Reed Community Baptist Church.

        Survivors include his wife, Emma Beasley Cravens; a son, Ronald Cravens of Henderson; four grandchildren; two brothers, Paul Cravens of Basket and Ruben Cravens of St. Louis; three sisters, Lola Doehoeffner of Louisville, Irene Brown of Evansville and Anna Lois VanCleave of Reed; and several nieces and nephews.

        Services are at 2 p.m. today at the Benton-Glunt Funeral Home, Henderson.

        Burial in the Mt. Zion Cemetery, Reed. Visitation is at the funeral home.

        Mr. DeNoon entered into rest Saturday, April 27, 1991, at Willis-Knight Hospital after a lengthy illness.  A  U.S. Air Force Retired Chief Warrant Officer since 1961, he had served in World War II and the Korean Conflict and was a member of the Retired Officers Assn. with the American Legion.

        He is survived by his wife, Frances E. DeNoon of Shreveport; two daughters, Mary Ann DeNoon and Marlene Fleming and husband, James, all of Shreveport; three sisters, Ida Shafer and husband, Gale of Elyria, Ohio, Betty Reeher and husband, David of Springfield, Virginia; Norma Schmidt of Newport Ricky [sic--New Port Richey], Florida; one grandson, Timothy Paul DeNoon; several nieces and nephews.

        A Military Honor Guard will serve as pallbearers.

        Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 30, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home.

George C. Drake, 80. Barnesville-Bethesda Rd, Bethesda, formerly of Barnesville, died Oct. 21,1991 In Barnesville Hospital. He was born Feb. 8, 1911 in Monroe Co., a son of the late William Garfield and Jenny Bird Morris Drake.  He was a retired carpenter and retired post office employee.  He was a member of Barnesville's Main Street United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by two sisters Margaret Huntsman and Mary Hittle; and two brothers, Thurman and Raymond Drake.

Surviving are his wife, Beatrice Carpenter Drake; three brothers, Charles of Barnesville, William of Fairmont, WV. and Carl of Bradenton, FL; six sisters, Lillian Huntsman of Columbus, Florence Little of West Lafayette, Edna Garvin of Leesburg, FL, Betty Eickelberry of Streetsboro, Kathryn Eickelberry of Ravenna, and Myrtle Hudson of Barnesville; several nieces and nephews.

        Services are being held today, oct 23, at noon from the Kelly-Kemp Funeral Home, Bethesda, with Rev. Carl Orphanides officiating.  Burial will follow in Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove.

    Paul L. Egger, 79, 224 South Main Street, Woodsfield, died July 20, 1991, upon arrival at Wetzel County Hospital, New Martinsville.
    He was born October 1, 1911, near Miltonsburg, Ohio, a son of the late Albert and Ola Steed Egger.
    He was owner and operator of Egger’s Barber Shop in Woodsfield and was a barber for 45 years. He was a member of the Church of Christ and a U. S. Army veteran of World War II.
    Surviving are his wife, Hazel Hoover Egger whom he married March 1, 1941; one son, Frank Egger, Columbus, Ohio; one sister, Wilda Turner of Moundsville and several nieces and nephews.
    Friends were received at the Watters Funeral Home, Woodsfield, where services were held July 23 with Ministers John Hamilton and Virgil Long officiating. Burial followed in Oaklawn Cemetery, Woodsfield.

        He was born Jan. 5, 1923, in Batesville, son of the late Carlos and Sally Neuhart Eschbaugh.  He was a retired mail carrier in Quaker City and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.  He was a member of Quaker City American Legion, Barnesville VFW Post 2792, DAV of Cambridge and the 82nd Airborne Glider Association.

        He was preceded in death by his first wife, Grace Marjorie Eschbaugh, on April 9, 1982, and one sister, Eileen Wagner.

        Mr. Eschbaugh leaves his wife Anna Stephen Eschbaugh; one daughter, Mrs. Jerald (Janice) Denius of Salesville; two stepsons, Thomas Stephen of Haverhill, Mass., and Sgt. Major George Randy Stephen stationed with the U.S. Army in Ft. Hood, Texas; two sisters, Mrs. Roger (Marjorie) Long and Mrs. Raymond (Shirley) McCort, both of Quaker City; two grandchildren, Melissa and Shawn Denius; and several nieces and nephews.

        Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Thorn-Eberle Funeral Home, Quaker City, where services will be at 2 p.m. Friday with Pastor Robert Main officiating.

        Military graveside services will be conducted by the Barnesville VFW and burial will be in Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove.

        VFW services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

       She retired in 1967 as an employee of U.S. Ceramic Tile Co. at East Sparta where she had worked for 19 years.  During World War II, she was an employee of the former Reeves Steel Co. at Dover.

        Born at Dover, she was a daughter of Frederick and Margaret Schlatter Christner.  She was an avid flower gardener.

        Surviving are a son, William D. Beller of Dover.  Five brothers and four sisters are deceased.

        Services will be held Saturday at 11 in Toland-Herzig Funeral Home at Dover with Rev. Al Frank officiating.  Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery at Dover.  Calling hours are Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9.

    She was born April 28, 1903, at Alledonia, a daughter of the late Joseph and Amanda Atkinson Reed.
    She had resided with her daughter in Rootstown for the past two years due to illness. She was a member of the Woodsfield Church of Christ, Woodsfield American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, Woodsfield, and had been active with the Senior Citizens Group, Woodsfield.
    Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Wayne (Wilma) Potter, Rootstown; one sister Gladys Wickham, Summerfield; two grandsons, Mark Potter, Sterling Heights, Michigan, and Terry Potter of Action, Massachusetts and five great-grandchildren.
     She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles W. Fisher on February 10, 1971; four brothers Moody, Oscar, Oliver and Sidney Reed and one sister, Mr. Ed Lucas.

        Ralph H. Gibbs, 82, of 928 Sunset Circle, Imperial Terrace, Tavares, Fla., and formerly of Sabina, died 2:15 a.m. Sunday at Clinton Memorial Hospital.  He is survived by his wife, Dona Belle Harmon Gibbs.  Deceased is his first wife, Catherine Beller Gibbs.

        Mr. Gibbs was born in Blanchester on Aug. 13, 1909, son of Joseph E. and Mary Pidgeon Gibbs.  He was retired owner-operator of Gibbs Hardware in Sabina and retired farmer.  A graduate of Blanchester High School, Mr. Gibbs attended Ohio University and was a member of the Phi Kappa Alpha fraternity.  He was past president of the Ohio Retail Hardware Association, past commodore of the Travares [sic–Tavares] Boating Club and had lived in Travares [sic–Tavares] for the past 25 years where he was a member of Kiwanis.  He was also a member of the Warsaw United Methodist Church in Warsaw, Ind.

        Mr. Gibbs is survived by two sons, D. Richard Gibbs of Tampa, Fla., and James J. Gibbs of Birmingham, Mich.; a brother, Earl Gibbs of Jamestown; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

        The body will be cremated and services will be held at a later date in Florida.  Arrangements are in care of the Littleton funeral home in Sabina.

        SEBRING -- Willard M. Gill, 69, 723 McKinley Ave., did at 7:40 a.m. Tuesday at Alliance Care Center.

        Mr. Gill was born March 15, 1922, in New Matamoras, to Isaac and Leota Morris Gill, and retired in 1984 from Royal China Co.

        He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Ronald (Rebecca) Blake of Homeworth; a brother, Norvil of Berlin Center; and a half sister, Hattie DeBolt of Sebring.  Mr. Gill was preceded in death by two sisters and six brothers.

        Following cremation, memorial services will be conducted at a later date.  Arrangements are by Gednetz Funeral Home.

       EAST  LIVERPOOL -- Services are planned Tuesday for Donald E. Goodballet, 64, of West Fifth Street, who died at City Hospital Saturday, Nov. 9, 1991, following at lengthy illness.

        He was born here Dec. 14, 1926, a son of the late Bert Goodballet and Dorothy Nicholson Goodballet.

       In East Liverpool, Mrs. Goodballet had been an insurance representative for the Western and Southern Life Insurance Co., and had earned several sales awards. Earlier, he had been a police officer 23 years both in East Liverpool and at Pompano Beach, Fla., where he held the rank of sergeant. He graduated from East Liverpool High School in 1944, and had served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He attended the Presbyterian Church, and was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 258, American Legion Post 374, and the Potters Pride Club, and was one of the “Car Barn Heathens” of East End.

        Survivors include his wife, Helen Wise Goodballet, whom he married April 1, 1947; a son, Donald L. Goodballet of Houston, Texas; three daughters, Nancy Vulgamore of Bethany, W.VA., Deborah (Mrs. John) Schmitt of Boardman, Ohio, and Rebecca (Mrs. Gary) Hamilton of Houston; two  brothers, Gerald C. Goodballet and Wayne Goodballet of East Liverpool; and nine grandchildren.

        Associate Pastor Dale Dudgeon of the Chester Christian Church is to conduct the services at 3:30 p.m. at the Martin Funeral Home. Burial is to be in Columbiana County Memorial Park.

    She is survived by two sisters, Nadine Knowlton of Mountain Home, Arkansas and Delys Bodenhausen, Springfield, Missouri; two brothers, Richard Neuhardt, Lewisville and Vernon Neuhardt, Wooster, Ohio.
    She was preceded in death by her husband Edward Green in 1991.

        Mrs. Hamilton was born in Gas City and lived in the area all her life. She was a former employee at Owens Illinois Glass Factory, Gas City, and the Broadmore and Hart hotels. She attended the First Christian Church, Gas City, and was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the AMVETS Post 5, Marion.

        Survivors include her husband of 44 years, Harley M.; a son, Mick, Chicago; a daughter, Nyla Purvis, Gas City; and four grandchildren.

        Private services will be Monday in the Needham-Storey Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, Gas City, with the Rev. Thomas Mansbarger officiating.

        Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery, Gas City.

        He is survived by his wife, Jane; two daughters and sons-in-law, Wanda and Gary Ketron of Eaton, Ohio, and Cheryl and Thomas Taylor of London, Ohio; son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Connie Hanes of Galloway, Ohio; and six grandchildren.

        The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of the Johnson-Smith Funeral Home in Baltimore, with the Rev. Jill Dunlap officiating.  Interment will be made in Basil Memorial Cemetery.

        Funeral for Virginia M. Hayes, 68, of Volland Drive, will be conducted by Myers Funeral Service, Reed and Jewell Chapel, at 10:30 a.m. Monday, with the Revs. Ross E. Logan and D. Burt Powell officiating.  Calling will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. to service time on Monday.  Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.

        Memorials may be made to the building fund of New Hope Christian Church, where she was a member, or to the donor's choice of charities.

        Mrs. Hayes died at 10:50 p.m. Wednesday at Columbus Convalescent Center.

        She had been a secretary for Cummins Engine Co. and had worked at the Boutique Shop for 10 years.

        Born April 15, 1923, she was the daughter of Albert and Lona Pope Campbell.  She was first married to Aron Woodrow Essex, who died in 1942, during World War II.  She married Ora H. "Boots" Hayes on Nov. 23, 1949, in Columbus.  He died Nov. 30, 1986.

        Surviving are a son, Lee Essex of Taylor, S.C.; grandsons, Mark and Ryan Essex, both of Taylor; and sisters, Hazel Hendrickson and Mary Gruhl, both of Hope.

        She was preceded in death by three brothers.  A sister, Gladys Cathers, died Thursday.

        Ukiah resident Fredrick James Hendrix, 22, died Monday, July 15, 1991, at Ukiah Valley Medical Center due to injuries he sustained in a motorcycle accident.  A burial service will be held at Ukiah cemetery at 2 p.m. Friday; his interment will follow.

        Mr. Hendrix was born in Ukiah Dec. 17, 1968, and had attended Ukiah schools.  He was the seventh generation born in Ukiah, descendant from the pioneer Beattie* and Higgins families.

        Mr. Hendrix is survived by his wife, Jennifer; his daughter, Teresa Lynn Hendrix of Ukiah; his son, Fredrick Hendrix Jr. of Ukiah; his mother, Sherma Summers and her husband, Glenn, of Ukiah; his father, Larry Hendrix of Arcata; two sisters, Teresa Wright of Carson City, Nev., and Julie Ramos of Ukiah; and his brother, Michael DePriest of Ukiah.  Mr. Hendrix is also survived by his grandparents, Harry and LaFaye Warn of Ukiah, Fredrick and Nancy Marty of Arcata, Mable Hendrix of Arcata; his great-grandmother, Avis Burmood of Ukiah; several aunts, uncles and cousins; one niece; and two nephews.

        Arrangements are under the direction of the Eversole Mortuary.

She was a former employee of the Campus Shirt Co., Barnesville and RCA Corp., at Cambridge; a member of VFW Auxiliary and the DAV Auxiliary, both in Barnesville.

Surviving are her husband, Francis R.; a son, Scott of Quaker City; a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Diana) Loveall of Quaker City; a brother, James (Jimmie) Linton of Quaker City; five grandchildren; four greatgrandchildren.

        Besides his parents, he leaves one brother, Shawn Eric Huntsman, of the home; paternal grandparents, Paulette Gray and Harry (Butch) Huntsman, both of Barnesville; maternal grandparents Dana Huntsman of Barnesville and Raymond Lynn of Cambridge.

        Also surviving are paternal great-grandparents, Lucille Agin of Barnesville and Harry Huntsman, Sr. of California; maternal great-grandparents, Richard and Grace Richmond of Barnesville and Dorothy Bonnell of Cambridge; and maternal great-great-grandmother, Goldie Johnson of West Virginia.

        DENISON -- Bessie Hyatt, 88, Denison, died Friday, Oct. 4,1991, at a Topeka hospital.

        She had worked at Eagle's Dry Goods Store and a Topeka dime store.

        She was born April 14,* 1903, the daughter of Luther and Ella Morris.  She had lived in the Ozawkie and Rock Creek communities before moving to Denison in 1961.

        She was a member of Denison Bible Church, the Denison Ladies Church Group and was a member and past worthy matron of Chapter No. 488 of the Order of the Eastern Star.

        Survivors include several nieces and nephews.

        Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Nellis Funeral Home in Valley Falls.  Burial will be in Denison Cemetery.  Friends may call after 4 p.m. today at the funeral home.

        Memorial contributions may be made to the Jackson County Nursing Home.

        Born in Barnesville, Ohio, Mrs. Inman had been a resident of Akron and Norton. She was employed as a registered nurse at Akron City Hospital and was a member of the Tallmadge First Church of God and the Norton Craft Group.

        Mrs. Inman is survived by her husband, Thomas C.; daughter, Angel Carver of Norton; sons, Bryan Carver, stationed with the U.S. Navy in Florida, and Thomas Inman II of Norton; mother, Mary M. Bowman of Norton; brothers and

sisters-in-law, Roger and Becky Bowman of Akron, and Larry and Mary Bowman of Cuyahoga Falls; four nephews, one niece; and two grandchildren.

        TELL CITY – Lester W. Jarboe, 57, died of natural causes Thursday at Perry County Memorial Hospital.

       A native of Perry County, he was born March 22, 1934, the son of Alfred and Bertha (Goffinet) Jarboe of Leopold, who survive.

        On June 26, 1964, he married the former Ruby Brinksneader, who preceded him in death on July 21, 1980.

        He was a boilermaker.

        Surviving besides his parents are three sons:  Steven W. of Florida, Daniel J. of Brighton, Tenn., and Bryan L. of Bristow; three sisters, Mary A. Brinksneader of Tell City, Carolyn Harberville of Bristow and Linda Goffinet of Branchville; two grandchildren and four step-grandchildren.

        Services were held at Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home, the Rev. Mark Gottemoeller officiated with burial in Greenwood Cemetery.

        Preceded in death by her grandmother, Deborah Kellum.

Born at Lewisville, OH, a daughter of the late Henry and Cecilia Smithberger. Resident of Cant since 1963 coming from Columbus. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Preceded in death by her husband, Jerome R. Kenney in 1957.

Survived by daughter and son-in-law, Mary Jo and Marshall Sparrow of Springfield, OH; sons and daughters-in-law, Robert J. and Barbara Kenney of Long Island, NY, David M. and Cathy Kenney of Waynesburg, OH, Daniel J. and Veronica Kenney of Mill Valley, CA; eight grandchildren; sisters, Mrs. Leander (Genny) Kuhn of Lewisville and Mrs. Edna Crum of Canton.

        She was born in New Port, Ohio, and lived in North Ridgeville since 1959. Mrs. Kirkbride was affiliated with Beth-El Baptist Church of Elyria. She enjoyed crocheting and working crossword puzzles.

        She is survived by two daughters, Vera Czuprun of North Ridgeville, and Elva Ramsier of Grafton, eight grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, six greatgreat- grandchildren, and a sister, Edna Mendenhall of Detroit.

        She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Kirkbride, a son, Merle Kirkbride, a daughter, Evelyn Martin, and a grandson, Richard Martin.

        NEWCOMERSTOWN -- Artie Lattea, 64, of 16441 Gunn Road, Lore City, died Thursday, May 9, 1991, at Wade Park Veterans Hospital in Cleveland, after a brief illness.

        Born Jan. 20, 1927, in Valley Bend, W. Va., he was a son of the late Mack Harlan and Ruby Mable* (Gregory) Lattea.

        He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a retired dairy farmer.

        Lattea was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2901 of Cambridge.

        On Nov. 15, 1954, he married the former Dorothy M. McDonald who survives.

        Also surviving are two sons, Emlous Lattea of Mesa, Ariz. and Timothy Lattea of Lore City; three daughters, Mrs. William (Cynthia) Thomas of Zanesville, Mrs. Raymond (Teresa) Gump of Kimbolton and Mrs. Louis (Tina) Raffelson of Puerto Rico; four brothers, George Lattea of Parkersburg, W.Va., Jeanous of Mesa, Ariz., Freddie of Pleasant City and Emlous of Barberton; three sisters, Marjorie Lattea of North Carolina, Mrs. Larry (Eva) White of Kimbolton and Darlene Sweeney of Akron; and 15 grandchildren.

        Graveside services will be conducted 2 p.m. today at the Irish Ridge Cemetery with James Stowers officiating.

        There are no calling hours.

        She was born in Lewis County, Nov. 26, 1899, a daughter of the late William and Dora Bell Stout Snyder.

        On March 20, 1920 she married Charles Warner Lattea, who died Jan. 13, 1976.

        Surviving are six daughters, Mrs. Jack (Opal) Spicer, Weston, Mrs. Rome (Kathryn) Carrig, Baltimore, Md., Mrs. William (Irene) Cherney, Long Beach, Calif., Mrs. Fred (Betty) Fluharty, Mannington, Mrs. Billy (June) Perry, Buckhannon, Mrs. Sue Conlon, Macedonia, Ohio, one son, Clayton Eugene Lattea, Charleston; one sister, Marie Warner, Weston; three brothers, William and Harry Snyder both of Weston, and Clyde Snyder, address unknown; 19 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, one great-great-greatgrandchild and three step-grandchildren.

        She was preceded in death by three sons and one brother.

        Mrs. Lattea was a Protestant by faith.

        Mr. Leek served with the U.S.  Army during World War II.  He was a member of the New Cumberland Church of the Nazarene and the Weirton Steel 25-Year Club.

        A son, Friend Benjamin Leek, died July 2, 1983.

        Survivors include his wife, Marie Mercer Leek, at home; a son, James O. Leek of New Cumberland; four daughters, Linda S.         Born April 29, 1949, in Kendallville, Ind., he was a son of Dick and Carolyn (Gappinger) Lower.

        On April 6, 1974, he was married to Susan Nickolas.

        Mr. Lower had lived in Rush County since 1964 and was a 1967 graduate of New Salem High School.  He was a member of New Salem United Methodist Church, the Eagles Lodge, NCCC, New Salem Lions Club, American Legion in Rushville and was an associate member of K of C.  He had spent 18 months in Vietnam in the U.S. Army Helicopter Division.  Mr. Lower had worked for the Rush County Highway Department.

        Survivors include his parents, of Kenton, Ohio; his wife; two sons, Eric and Christopher Lower, at home; two brothers, Greg Lower, Greensburg, and Tim Lower, Rushville; two sisters, Mrs. Dale (Teresa) Meyer and Mrs. Mark (Lora) Hoeing, both of Rushville; and a grandmother, Marjory Gappinger, Albion, Ind.

        He was preceded in death by a sister and a brother.

        Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Moster and Cox Mortuary, Rushville.  Rev. Bill Sweigart will officiate.  Visitation will be 4-9 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary.  Burial will be in Layton Cemetery in Rush County.

Jacob Ward (Bode) Lumbatis, 76, 46007 State Route 145 Lewisville, died early Thursday, October 17, 1991, in Woodsfield Nursing and Rehabilltation Center.  He was born July 20, 1915 in Monroe County, son of the late Elza and Emma Feiock Lumbatis.  He was a retired master mechnaic, a member of the Operating Engineers 18 at Akron, Lewisville Fire Department, Friendship Cemetery Association at Lewisville, Stafford Lodge 300 F&AM and Scottish Rite Valley of Cambridge.

He was preceded in death by a sister and a grandson.

Surviving are his wife, Beulah Gray Lumbatis; three sons Richard and Gale, both of Lewisville, and David of Canal Fulton; two daughters, Mrs Dellano (Jeanie) Roe of Lewisville and Mrs Martin (Marlene) Crum of Madison, Tenn.; three brothers, Charles of Dalton, Ala.; Lewis (Hoss) of Carrollton, and Dale (Fuzz) of Lewisville; four sisters, Mildred LaDavia of Wichita, Kan., Ruby Lumbatis of Paradise, Calif., Mary Weber of Akron, and Ruth Holmer of Barberton; 14 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; 7 step-grandchildren; 6 step-great-grandchildren.

Lumbatis, Minnie Pearl Lumbatis nee Weber

Minnie P. Lumbatis, 86, of 313 Eastern Avenue, Woodsfield, died at 10:38 p.m.; July 31, 1991, in the Barnesville Hospital, Barnesville, Ohio.

She was born on July 21, 1905 at Lewisville, a daughter of the late Jacob and Mary Denbow Weber.

She was a retired cook for the Woodsfield Elementary school and a member of the Woodsfield United Methodist Church.

She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Loren (Eloise) January of Woodsfield; three grandchildren, Mrs. Matt (Kimberley) Schaber, Woodsfield, Timothy January, New Matamoras, and Mrs. Gary (Beth) Rasco, Garland, Texas; and nine great grandchildren, Vanessa, and Nathan Schaber, Woodsfield; Stephen, Stacy, Andy, and Nicole January, New Matamoras; Robin, Christopher and Heather Rasco, Garland, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold S. Lumbatis in 1972, two sisters, Lulu Foehrenbach and Lillie Lafferre, and three brothers, Earnest, Elmer, and Carl Weber.

Friends were received from 7-9 p.m. August 2, in Woodsfield. Private graveside services were held at the convenience of the family in Friendship Cemetery, Lewisville.

        Lula F. Marty, 87, Dement Road, Triadelphia, W. Va., died Tuesday at Peterson Hospital, Wheeling.  She was born July 7, 1904 at Clarington, a daughter of the late Frederick and Marianna Hoffmann Pfister.

        She was a member of St. James United Church of Christ at Clarington.

        She was preceded in death by her husband, John William Marty.

        Surviving is a daughter, Mrs. Leonard P. (Mary Lou) Hudnall of Triadelphia.

        Friends will be received Thursday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the McCoy Funeral Home, Wheeling, where services will be Friday at 10:30 a.m., with the Rev. Ralph Hollingsworth officiating.  Burial follows in Greenwood Cemetery, Wheeling.

        Maralee Ann Mason, 68, of 1857 Ruth St., died Thursday, Sept. 12, at Allen Hospital, after a lengthy illness.

        She was born July 23, 1923, in Buchanan County, daughter of Wayne C. and Sarah A. Cady Smith.  She married Melvin C. Voland on May 20, 1943, in Independence.  He died Dec. 14, 1967.  She married Raymond L. Mason on Jan. 1, 1971, in Jesup.

        Mrs. Mason was a self-employed beauty operator in Jesup before becoming the residence director at Allen Memorial Hospital for 14 1/2 years, retiring in 1984.

        Survivors include her husband; a son, Marvin of Eldora; a daughter, Marcia Lewis of El Dorado, Kan.; three grandchildren; and two brothers, Max and Lloyd Smith, both of Independence.

        Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at The Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel on Kimball, with burial in Mount Hope Cemetery, Independence.  Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until services Saturday at the funeral home.

        Memorials may be made to the Allen School of Nursing or the Diabetes Association.

        She born in in Woodsfield, Ohio, had been a Clinton resident the last 40 years, and was a member of St. George Catholic Church of Clinton.

        She is survived by her husband, Thomas J.; daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Marwan Adjan of Barberton, Rebecca Callan of the home, Susan and Mark Petersen of Canal Fulton, Janice Mayberry of Clinton, Diana Starr of Doylestown, sons Gary Weber of Barberton, and Dean Weber of Doylestown; eight granchildren; mother-in-law, Winifred Mayberry of Clinton; sisters, Helen Claus of Akron, Leora Risen of Logan, Grethel Durant of Illinois, Alma Cline of Barberton; brother, Murl Gatten of Tallmadge.

    Ollie M. McConnell, 92, Summit Acres Nursing Home, Caldwell, Ohio, formerly of Stafford, Ohio, died at 10:15 a.m., February 20, 1991, at Summit Acres Nursing Home following an extended illness.
    She was born October 4, 1898, in Elk Township, Noble County, near Carlisle, a daughter of the late Zenas H. and Matilda Feldner Gildow.
    She was a member of the Crum Ridge Church of Christ.
    Surviving are two sons, Charles R. McConnell, Stafford, and Lewis G. McConnell, Lewisville; two brothers, Walter Gildow, Caldwell, and Edward Gildow, Belle Valley, Ohio; two sisters, Mrs. Walter (Wilma) Binegar, Caldwell, and Iva Knight, Zanesville, Ohio; three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, William Floyd McConnell, October 1974; one son, John C. McConnell, June 1972; one brother, Thomas Gildow, and four sisters, Grace Gildow, Ella Cale, Lou Miller and Minnie Murray.
    Friends were received at the Watters Funeral Home, Woodsfield, where funeral services were held at 1 p.m. February 23 with Evangelist Bernard Mason officiating. Burial followed in Stafford Cemetery, Stafford.

        Avis McGrew, 78, West South Street, died this morning at Major Hospital.

        Born Dec. 5, 1912, in Decatur County, she was a daughter of William and Clara (Vincent) Sanders.

        Her husband, Edward McGrew, whom she married July 26, 1939, survives.

        Mrs. McGrew was formerly employed with Jester's Department Store, Shelbyville, and was a homemaker.

        She was a member of the Shelby County Historical Society and was formerly a member of the Current Topic Club.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Shelbyville, where she belonged to the Bethany class.

        Other survivors include a son, Stephen McGrew, Seymour, four grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Martha Lux, Waldron.  Preceding her in death were four sisters and three brothers.

        Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Carmony-Ewing Harrison Street Funeral Home, with the Rev. Robin D. Perkins officiating.  Friends may call at the funeral home* from 4-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.*  Burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery.

  Helen M. McMahon, 87, of 51436 State Route 145, Jerusalem, OH (formerly of Woodsfield) died at 8:25 p.m. October 25, 1991 in the Barnesville Hospital, Barnesville.

  She was born near Antioch on Feb. 28, 1904 a daughter of the late Joseph Albert [correct is Joseph Alexander] and Emma Nelia Barkes Bachman.

  She was a graduate of Muskingum College, New Concord and was a retired school teacher having taught for 35 years in the Switzerland of Ohio School District. She was also a member of the Woodsfield Church of Christ.

  She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Roger (Patricia) Hendershot of Jerusalem; two sons, William Richard McMahon of Ocean Springs Mississippi and Ralph McMahon of Dallas, TX; one brother, Ralph Bachman of Kenner, LA; two granddaughters and three grandsons.

  She was preceded in death by her husband, William Henry McMahon on August 6, 1974 and one brother Harold Bachman.

  Friends were received at the Watters Funeral Home Woodsfield from 2-9 p.m. Oct. 29 and funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Oct. 30 with Minister John Hamilton officiating. Burial followed in Oaklawn Cemetery, Woodsfield.

        Funeral services for Shirley  M. McPherson, 61, of Independence, Iowa, were held Tuesday, Sept. 3, 1991, in the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Independence, Iowa.  The Rev. Larry Lenning officiated with music provided by  Mrs. Frank Brimmer, organist.

        Burial was at the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence, with Jeremy Butters, Travis Butters, Troy Butters, Matt  Dubbeld, Nathan Dubbeld, Joe Meek, and Harry Meek serving as casketbearers.

        McPherson was born on June 19, 1930, in Independence, Iowa, the daughter of Fred and Stella (Hasty) Voland.  She was a 1947 graduate of the Quasqueton High School in Quasqueton, Iowa.  On June 30, 1948, she married Joseph Butters in Independence.  The couple divorced in 1969.  On July 25, 1970, she married Jerry McPherson in Waterloo, Iowa, and the couple resided in Independence.  She was employed by the Mental Health Institute in Independence for 22 years as a nursing assistant.  She died Saturday, Aug. 31, 1991, in the Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo.

        She is survived by two sons, Wayne Butters and Bruce Butters, both of Independence, Iowa; two daughters, Karen Dubbeld of Winona Lake, Ind., and Dawn Meek of Independence, Iowa; a step-son, Lyaman McPherson stationed with the U.S. Navy in Scotland; and a step-daughter, Sheryl Malone of Pine Forge, Pa.; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren; three sisters, Lena Jones of Winthrop, Iowa, Velda Merkel and Deloris Crew, both of Jesup, Iowa.

        She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jerry McPherson in 1987, a daughter, Mary Louise Butters; a granddaughter, Emily Jo Butters, and a brother, Melvin Voland.

        The Reiff Funeral Home of Independence was in charge of arrangements.

        Myrtle Lee Meade of Grand Junction died Tuesday in Palisades Nursing Home in Palisade.  She was 78.

        Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Martin Mortuary chapel with the Rev. Roger Ferguson officiating.  Burial will be in Orchard Mesa Cemetery.

        Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the mortuary.

        Mrs. Meade was a homemaker.

        She was born April 27, 1913, to Sam and Nancy Belle Rose Hoskison in Ringling, Okla.  She spent her childhood and graduated from high school in Watonga, Okla.

        Mrs. Meade was a member of the Clifton Christian Church.

        She enjoyed quilting and she loved her family.

        Survivors include a son, Conard Meade of Acampo, Calif.; a daughter HuElla Mason of Johannesburg, South Africa; two sisters, Faye Stevens of Oklahoma, and Ethel Mallon; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

        EAST  LIVERPOOL – Mrs. Opal I Mercer, 80, of Annesley Road died Monday, July 22, 1991, at home following a lengthy illness..

        She was born at St. Marys, W.Va., Jan. 3, 1911, a daughter of the late James Higgins and Artie L. J. Lock Higgins.

        A resident of East Liverpool since 1955, Mrs. Mercer was a member of the Grace Baptist Temple Church, and was a former member of the Jolly Sixties.

        Her husband, Abraham Mercer, whom she married in 1943, died in 1958. She also was preceded in death by a son, William F. Higgins.

        Survivors include a son, Robert D. Higgins of East Liverpool; a daughter, Elenor (Mrs. Norval) Powell of Parkersburg, W.Va.; a stepson, Glen Mercer of Akron, Ohio; a stepdaughter, Rose Higgins of Chester; three sisters, Kathleen (Mrs. Paul) Davis and Winnie (Mrs. Smith) Shingleton of St. Marys and Lulubelle (Mrs. Gene) Henry of Parkersburg; 15 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

        MANTUA -- Harold H. “Hal” Mizer, 83, of 11012 S.R. 44, Mantua, went home to be with the Lord April 18.
        Former co-owner of Hammel's Meat Market, he retired in 1970. He was a
member of Mantua Masonic Lodge 533 F&AM, Silver Creek Chapter 144 Royal Arch  Masons, and Mystic Chapter 32 O.E.S. He was a member and deacon of Hilltop Christian Church.
        He was the beloved husband of Edna (Bauman); dear brother of Earl Mizer;
loving uncle of several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. He was
preceded by two sisters and two brothers.

        TELL CITY -- Arthur C. "Bud" Morris, 64, of 1416  11th St., died at 5:45 p.m. Monday, Aug. 5, 1991, at Owensboro-Daviess County Hospital after a three-month illness.

        A native of Tell City, he was born Feb. 5, 1927, the son of the late Harmon and Mary Elena (Montgomery) Morris.  He was also preceded in death by a sister, Rosalie Morris; and three brothers, Edgar, Marion and Alfred Morris.

        He was united in marriage Dec. 28, 1950, to the former Mabel "Mae" Scarboro, who survives.

        A Korean War veteran, he retired after 44 years with Alvey Cleaners in Tell City.  He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2939.

        Surviving are his wife of 40 years, Mabel "Mae;" four sons, Arthur, Jon and Allen, all of Tell City, and David of Santa Claus; three brothers, Robert and Joseph, both of Tell City, and Paul of Sedona, Ariz.; six grandchidren and one stepgrandchild.

         Services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday (today) at Finch Funeral Home in Tell City, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery, where the VFW conducted military graveside. . . .

        TELL  CITY -- Eva Mae* Morris, 65, died at 2:27 a.m. Friday, April 26, 1991, at her home, 1137 Ninth St.

        She was born in Empire, Ohio, on March 7, 1926, the daughter of Clara Mae (Gerber) Hall of Tell City, who survives, and the late Oscar Kahler.

        On June 27, 1944, she was united in marriage to Robert Morris, who survives.

        She retired from General Electric in Tell City after 30 years service.

        She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary of Post 1424, American Legion Auxiliary Unit 213, William Tell Senior Citizens, St. Paul Catholic Church and Right to Life.

        Surviving besides her husband of 46 years, Robert; are two sons Robert W. Morris and Van Morris both of Tell City; three daughters Deborrah Vowels and Mary Morris, both of Tell City, and Patricia Flamion of St. Croix; a brother Bill Kahler of Tell City; _____* grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

        Services were held at 10 a.m. Monday (today) at St. Paul Catholic Church, Tell City, the Rev. Larry Richardt officiated with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery.

        Finch Funeral Home, Tell City, was in charge of arrangements where the rosary was recited Sunday evening.

        Memorial contributions may be made to the Visiting Nurses Association.

        Surviving are a sister, Rosalie Rothgerber of Tell City; a brother, Earl Phillips of Dale.

        Her husband, George, died in 1975.

        Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Fuller Funeral Home in Dale, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery in Gentryville.

        She was born in Decatur County January 4, 1899, to William and Amanda Britton Fishback.  She was a member of the Milroy Christian Church and the Rush Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.

        Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Max (Dorothy) Hunsinger, R. R. 1, Rushville; one sister, Stella Richey of Connersville; and several nieces and nephews.

        Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Burns Funeral Home in Milroy, where friends may call from 4 to 8 this evening.  Officiating will be Rev. Ron Simbro, and burial will be in the Old Milroy Cemetery.

       COLUMBUS--Ray Neuhart, 77, of Marysville, died Wednesday (Jan, 2, 1991) at the Marysville Nursing Home. He was born Jan. 28, 1913 in Batesville, son of the late James and Hazel Mercer Neuhart. He was a retired employee of the City of Columbus.   

He leaves two brothers, Ralph, of Cambridge and Richard of Batesville; two sons, Monte of Marysville and Jeryl of Canton; a sister, Marie Morris of Canton; two grandchildren. His wife, Ruth, died in 1954. Two brothers and a sister are also deceased.

        Charles E. Nichols, 83, of Kahoka, died Tuesday, Aug. 6, 9:45 P.M. in Keokuk Area Hospital.

        He was born March 1, 1908, in Clark County, MO, the son of William Elbert and Lydia McClain Nichols. He married Eleanor Walker on June 11, 1932, at the Neeper Christian Church. She survives.

        Other survivors include a son, Charles Walker Nichols and his wife, Maggie, of Kansas City, MO; daughter, Mrs. Elaine Greek of Eureka, IL; brothers, Cecil Nichols of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, and Thomas Nichols of Williamstown, MO; sister, Mrs. Fern Gudehus of Edina, MO; seven grandchildren, Elizabeth Nichols of Lee's Summit, MO; Charles Walker Nichols II of Oak Grove, MO; Christopher W. E.         He was preceded in death by a daughter, Judith Joy Nichols in 1974, a grandson, Michael Frederick Nichols; four brothers, Lloyd, Lehland, Leo and Rueben Nichols; and a sister, Gladys Mitchell.

        He was a farmer in Clark County until his retirement. He was an active member of the Kahoka Christian Church where he was an Elder Emeritus. He was also a member of the Kahoka 50-50 Class of the Church and the men's fellowship. He was a member of St. Francisville Lodge #588, A.F. & A.M. at Wayland, MO, and the Kahoka Chapter #40, O.E.S.

        Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 10, 10 am at the Kahoka Christian Church with Rev. Leland Beck and Rev. Don Moseley officiating.

        Burial was in the Neeper Cemetery south of Kahoka.

        Mrs. Joan Ball was organist and Mrs. Rachel McWhortor was pianist and Mr. Mathew Eder was soloist.

       Dessie Marie Okey, 74 of 211 S. Main St. Woodsfield, Ohio died Wednesday afternoon, June 12, 1991 at the Woodsfield Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.  She was born August 5, 1916 Summerfield, Ohio a daughter of the late Mathew and Alice Leach Brown.

        She was a member of the first [First] Baptist Church of Woodsfield.

        Preceded in death by her husband Earl W. (John) Okey - March 1971.*

        She is survived by 3 sons:  Gerald Okey, Sardis, Ohio; David Okey, Woodsfield, Ohio; and Larry Okey, Dover, Ohio.  Also four daughters:  Louella (Sally) Hall, Marion, Indiana; Myrna Minder, Woodsfield, Ohio; Leona Hoskinson, Somerton, Ohio; Carol Kuhn, Woodsfield, Ohio as well as 24 Grandchildren and 21 Great Grandchildren.

        Friends were received from (2-9) p.m. Friday June 13,** 1991 at the Bauer-Turner Funeral Home Woodsfield, where services will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday with Rev. Charles Young officiating.  Burial will be in the Oaklawn Cemetery Woodsfield.

        In addition to her parents, she is survived by a sister, Amber Peddicord, at home; maternal grandparents George and Virginia Cochran Sr. of East Palestine; paternal grandmother Rachel Peddicord of Salem; and paternal great-grandmother Mamie Peddicord of Wellsville.

        The Rev. Gary Beck, pastor of the First Assembly of God Church, conducted the services.  Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.

        Born July 19, 1933, in Linton, he was the son of Alfred and Jesse (Mayfield) Peltier.  He retired from General Electric in 1988 as a special machinist.

        Survivors include his wife, Sandra (Johnson) Peltier; three sons, Raymond Lee Peltier of Zaragosa [sic--Zaragoza] AFB,* Spain, Ricky Gene Peltier of O'Fallon, Ill., and Harold Wayne Peltier of Linton; one daughter, Angela Lynn Rehmel** of Newberry; one brother, Ralph Peltier of Lyons; one sister, Mable Braker of Bloomfield; and five grandchildren.

        He was preceded in death by one brother, Kenny Peltier.

        Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at the Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel with the Rev. Daroll Burch officiating.

       He had been employed at Amos Plastics in Edinburgh.  Pope was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of Edinburgh American Legion.

        Funeral will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Norman Funeral Home at Hope, where calling will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday.  Military graveside service and burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery at Edinburgh.

        Born Sept. 7, 1916, in Bartholomew County, Pope was the son of Floyd and Goldie Drake Pope.  He married Nettie L. Briddle in 1940.  She survives.

        Also surviving are sons Larry and Eugene Pope, both of Indianapolis, Donald Pope of Bloomington and Steven Pope of Edinburgh; brothers, Ralph Pope of California and Robert Pope of Kokomo; sisters, Margaret Ward of Columbus and Ruth Pope of Kentucky; 22 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

        He was preceded in death by a brother, Herb Pope, and sisters, Elsie Hogan, Josie Cody and Betty Hoseman.*

        Born Sept. 23, 1918, in Hope, Ind., Mr. Pope served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was the chef at Lido's restaurant for 15 years.

        Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today at St. John's United Methodist Church in New Martinsville for W. A. "Tony" Powell, former civic leader and retired insurance executive who served Wetzel and Tyler Counties for 35 years.

        A resident of 728 N. Main St., New Martinsville, he was born March 11, 1922, in Paden City, son of Suzie M. Billiter Powell of Paden City and the late William A. Powell Sr.

        He was a 1947 graduate of West Virginia University, where he received a degree in business administration.  He received a Masters degree from Purdue University in 1948.

        He was a member of the West Virginia House of Delegates from 1968-1970, a past president of the Board of Trustees of the Wetzel County Hospital Association and a past president of the Selective Service Board of Wetzel and Tyler Counties.  A charter member of the New Martinsville Rotary Club, he served as district governor of District 753 in 1967.  He was named a Paul Harris Fellow, the club's highest honor.

        Powell was honored as the New Martinsville Jaycees Citizen of the Year for his civic and charitable activities.

        He was one of the founders of the Paden City Labor Day Celebration.  An Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of American Legion Post 86 of Paden City, Masonic Lodge 39 AF&AM, New Martinsville, a 32nd degree Mason, a member of Osiris Shrine Temple, Wheeling, Moose Lodge 931, Sistersville Elks Club 333 and St. John's United Methodist Church in New Martinsville.

        He was preceded in death by his wife, Sara Standiford Powell in 1989; a son, William Rogers Powell in 1952; a daughter, Elizabeth Ann Powell in 1955.

        Surviving, in addition to his mother, are three sons, John Carroll of Paden City; Jan Courtney of New Martinsville and David Whitney of Morgantown; a brother, Jack E. of Marietta; four grandchildren.

        Friends will be received from 9-11 a.m. today at the Wells Funeral Home, 515 MapleAve.,  The Rev. Albert C. VanRennen will officiate at the 1 p.m. service.  Interment in Northview Cemetery, New Martinsville.  Military services were held at 8 p.m. yesterday.

        Mr. Robinson was born in Athens County, and lived in Akron most of his life. He was a retired tire builder for the B.F. Goodrich Company.

Rollyson, W. Preston Rollyson

        Services for W. Preston Rollyson, 82, former superintendent of the Washington County Children's Home and former juvenile probation officer for Washington County Juvenile Court, will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in Valley View Baptist Church with Leon Edwards and Paul Woverton officiating.

        Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery.  Friends may call at McClure-Schafer Funeral Home until noon Tuesday and at the church for one hour prior to the services.  The family will be present to meet friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

        Mr. Rollyson died at 10:10 a.m. Saturday (July 20, 1991) in Marie Antoinette Pavilion.  His home had been at Lowell Rt. 2.

        He was a 1928 graduate of Gassaway High School and on Sept. 3 of that year had moved to Chicago, where he lived for the next seven years.  He was a graduate of Moody Bible Institute and had attended Crane College and George Williams College.  He had been engaged in farming for more than 50 years.

        Mr. Rollyson was formerly employed at the West Virginia Masonic Home and was one of the founders of the REA program in this area.  He also had been employed at Washington County Farm Bureau and was one of the owners of Farmers Feed and Supply Co.

        Mr. and Mrs. Rollyson were appointed superintendent and matron of Washington County Children's Home in 1952.  In 1962, he was named juvenile probation officer, a position he served until 1973.  In 1973, he was named pastor of Muskingum Valley Baptist Church.  From 1952 until 1984 he had preached in churches in southeastern Ohio and West Virginia.  He was a life member of Gideons International and was a member of Muskingum Valley Baptist Church.

        He was born Sept. 1, 1908, at Duck, W. Va., in Braxton County to French and Chantilla Moore Rollyson.

        Mr. Rollyson is survived by his wife, the former Ruth Rinard, whom he married May 28, 1933; two daughters, Priscilla Rollyson of Marietta and Mrs.Clyde A. (Betty) Beardsley of Reno; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Margaret Rollyson of Winfield, W.Va., and Olena Martin of Cross Lanes, W.Va.

        He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

    Bernard H. Schumacher, former Monroe County Commissioner, died at home November 7, 1991, at the age of 78. He was a resident of 407 Holiday Avenue, Woodsfield.
    In addition to serving as commissioner, he served as Center Township trustee and was a member of the GMN Tri-County Board.
    Schumacher served the County as commissioner from 1975 to ‘83 and from 1985 to ‘89. He opted not to run for the 1990-94 term.
    During his years in office, Schumacher was involved with many improvement projects for the County. Included in the list are the Achievement Center and MACO buildings, the Department of Human Services building, Monroe County Clinic, Americare Woodsfield, currently known as the Woodsfield nursing and Rehabilitation Center, and Monroe County Care Center improvements.
    Upon his retirement from public office, Schumacher had said he hoped the future of Monroe County included an elevator in the three-story courthouse. He also hoped for County water and sewer systems.
    “We’ve got to have these utilities in order to draw industry into the County,” Schumacher had said on his final day as County commissioner.
    Schumacher was a self-employed water hauler serving the local four-County area. He was a retired farmer and schoolbus driver for the Switzerland of Ohio School District.
    He was a member of the Holy Name society, the Knights of Columbus, and the Saint Sylvester Catholic Church at Woodsfield.
    He was born January 20, 1913, near Woodsfield.
    He is survived by his wife, Florence C. Kress Schumacher, whom he married December 27, 1945, and five daughters, Adeline Jones, Silver Springs, Maryland; Vera Roth and Bernice Baker of Woodsfield; Alice Goddard, Beallsville, Ohio; and Anna Hupp, Caldwell, Ohio.

        A native of Emmett, Idaho, she was born Dec. 1, 1921, and had been a Spark's resident for the past 42 years, coming from Elko.

       Mrs. Stalder was a Linotype operator in the newspaper industry.

        Surviving are her husband John of Sparks: son Dennis of Copperas Cove, Texas: brothers Mills Denton of Emmett and Myrh Denton of Argyle, Texas; and sister-in-law, Ethelda Stillinger of Brooks, Iowa.

        Cremation will be at Reno Crematory, under the direction of Northern Nevada Memorial Cremation and Burial Society.

       Richard K. Stickle age 82, formerly of Airport Hwy., Toledo, died Wednesday in the Heunefeld Care Center, Swanton.  He was the husband of the late Madeline Stickle.  Mr. Stickle was a meat cutter for the A & P Tea Company for 35 years, retiring in 1973.  He was also a veteran of WW II Army.

        Surviving are his daughters Mrs. Joann Mock and Mrs. Patricia Slicker both of Toledo; 8 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Eugene Stickle; half brothers, George and Robert Tighe and half-sisters, Mrs. Donnabelle Carter and Mrs. Isabelle Neigebaer.

        CAMANO  ISLAND,  WASH. -- Marion B. Sutton, 70, died November 8 at his home on Camano Island, Wash.

        He was born September 25, 1921 in Paulding, the son of Cornelius and Edythe Sutton.  He attended school in Paulding and graduated before entering the military service in July, 1942.  He served as a Communications Supply Technician and was honorably discharged in November, 1945.  He met the former Rosalie Wheeler while serving at Hickam in Honolulu and following his military service they married and moved to her home in Spokane, Washington. In Spokane, Marion was a Civil Service employee at Fairchild AFB, until his retirement in 1973.  He made his home in Spokane for 40 years before moving to Camano Island in 1985.

        He was a member of the Amateur Radio Relay League and enjoyed camping and fishing with his family.

        Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Rosalie, three sons, Dennis R. Sutton, twin sons, Richard D. Sutton and Ronald D. Sutton and his wife, Barbara, all of Camano Island;  a daughter, Darlene K Porter and husband Phillip, Spokane, Washington.  Also surviving are 10 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews; a brother, Maxwell Sutton and his wife Ethel; and sister-in-law, Marie Sutton, Toledo; sister-in-law Juanita Stephens and husband, Tom; brother-in-law Eugene Wheeler and wife Pat; all of Enumclaw, Washington.

        At his request there were no formal services.  To honor his memory and his life, a time of reflection for his family was held at his home on Sunday, Nov. 10.

        Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association.

        Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Schiavone Funeral Home for Gerald Lee Tarr, 57, of 1615 Florence Ave., who died of lung cancer this morning at home.

        Mr. Tarr was born Dec. 9, 1933, in Youngstown, a son of Albert and Reva McCullough Tarr.  He was  a press operator at RMI Co. for 22 years before retiring in July 1987.

        He was a member of United Steelworkers of America Local 2155 and a Navy veteran.

        He leaves his wife, the former Pat A.         ANDREA  C.  TAYLOR, 24, Linton, formerly of Indianapolis, died Monday.  Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Anderson-Poindexter Funeral Home, Linton, with calling from 9 a.m. until services.  She was a medicine aide at Bloomfield Health Care Center.  She was a member of Olive Branch Baptist Church.  Survivors:   father, Robert W.         LINCOLN  CITY, Ind. -- Edward Kelley Thompson, 69, died at 9:40 p.m. Wednesday at his home.

        He was retired from Tretter Garage in Huntingburg, where he worked as a mechanic for 35 years.

        He also was a farmer.

        Surviving are his wife, the former Mabel M. Morris; two daughters, Judy Leighty of Petersburg and Sharon K. Hart of Lincoln City; a brother, Robert of Dale; and three grandchildren.

        Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Fuller Funeral Home in Dale, with burial in Chinn Cemetery west of Dale.

        Marie Walker, 69, of Wellington died Thursday at Elyria Memorial Hospital after a short illness.

        Born in Nova, she lived 10 years in Wellington where she was a member of First Baptist Church.

        Survivors include her husband, Gilbert R. to whom she was married 50 years; daughters, Joyce King of Cedarville and Peggy Ziegler of Wellington; sons, Ronald and Richard, both of Cedarville; 11 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a sister, Lela Samples of Denning,* N.M.; and brothers, Therman Moody, Wayne Moody and Roy Moody, all of Ashland, and Elvin Moody and Allen Moody, both of Wellington.

        Friends may call 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Norton Funeral Home, 370 S. Main St., Wellington.

        Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Joel Kettering and the Rev. Allan Vine officiating.

        Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Wellington.

        Raymond F. Weber, 88, of 324 Marsha Lane, died at 11:40 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, 1991, at Good Samaritan Medical Center, following a long illness.

        Mr. Weber was a retired barber and home builder, retiring in 1971 from Ray Weber Construction Co.  He was a member of Sonora United Methodist Church.

         Born Feb. 22, 1903, in Lewisville, he was a son of David and Clara Yoho Weber.

        Surviving are his wife, Marie A. Arnold Weber, whom he married Feb. 11,* 1933;  two sons, Kenneth R. Weber of Zanesville and Richard L. Weber of Spring Valley; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Zelda Betts of Lewisville; and three brothers, Willard Weber of Lewisville, Lawrence Weber of Heath and Earl Weber of Newark.

        He was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.

        Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Hillis Funeral Home.

        Services for John A. Williams will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Gednetz Funeral Home in Sebring, with the Rev. L. Edwin Mosher officiating.

        Mr. Williams, 63, 845 S. Liberty Ave., died at 1:45 a.m. Thursday at Canterbury Villa, following a long illness.

        He was born Feb. 6, 1929, in East Liverpool, to John and Margaret Runion Williams, and was retired from Denman Tire and Rubber Co. in Warren.

        A  U .S.  Army veteran of the Korean War, Mr. Williams was a member of American Legion Post 166.

        He is survived by his wife, Bonnie L. (Monter); three daughters, Veronica Truman of Minerva, and Mrs. Michael (Christine) Aeling and Bonnie Williams, both of Alliance; two sons, Raymond of Alliance and E3 John A. Jr., stationed with the U. S.  Navy in the Persian Gulf; four sisters, Marilyn Smith and Mary Garnes, both of Alliance, Linda Evanitcka of Sebring and Alma Jean Morrison of North Benton; a brother, James of Sebring; and five grandchildren.

        Friends may call 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.  Burial will be in Highland Memorial Park.

       Edna F. Wood, 53, of Circle Drive in Hope died at 8:32 a.m. Friday at Bartholomew County Hospital after a three-year illness.

        She had been a cook at the Bartholomew County Jail and worked at The Wringer Laundromat in Columbus.

        Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Norman Funeral Home in Hope with the Revs. Cam Huffman and Virgil Clotfelter officiating.  Calling will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.  Burial will be at Flatrock Baptist Cemetery.

        She was born Dec. 21, 1937, in Bartholomew County, the daughter of Jettie and Freeda Stater Olmstead.  She married Loren F. Wood Nov. 29, 1958.  He survives.

        Also surviving are sons David A., Paul D. and Randall L. Wood, all of Hope, and Steven W. Wood of Columbus; brothers Clifford Olmstead of Hartsville, Floyd Olmstead of Columbus, Marshall Olmstead of Edinburgh and Glenn Olmstead of Hope; sister, Minnie Stitt of Columbus; and five grandchildren.

        Elsie I. Wood-Hogan, 76, of Hope, died at 9 a.m. Friday at Bartholomew County Hospital emergency room.

        She worked at Gene's Cafeteria in Columbus for 16 years and owned the 10th Street Restaurant for six years.  She was a member of the Columbus Eagles Lodge and the St. Louis Crossing Baptist Church.

        Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Norman Funeral Home in Hope, with the Rev. Marvin Arnett officiating.  Calling will be at the funeral home from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday.  Burial will be at the Flat Rock Baptist Cemetery.

        Born July 3, 1914, in Shelby County, she was the daughter of Floyd M. and Goldie M. Drake Pope.  She married Milo S. Wood in 1934.  He died June 15, 1985.  She married Norman F. Hogan April 15, 1988.  He survives.

        Also surviving are a daughter, Florence E. Boyd of Columbus; three sons, Roscoe E. Wood of St. Louis Crossing, Loren F. and Richard E. Wood of Hope; three brothers, Robert Pope of Kokomo, Emil Pope of Edinburgh, Ralph Pope of California; two sisters, Margaret Ward of Columbus, and Ruth Taylor of Columbia, Ky.; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

        She was preceded in death by a brother, Herbert Pope and two sisters, Betty Hoseman* and Josie Cody.

        Sarah E. Zink, 75, of 6400 Cutler Lake Road, Blue Rock, died at 6:35 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5. 1990* at Good Samaritan Medical Center emergency room.

        Mrs. Zink was a member of South Zanesville United Methodist Church.

        Born April 5, 1915 in Roseville, she was a daughter of Edward and Mary Starling Parsons.

        Surviving are her husband Charles W. Zink, whom she married Dec. 24, 1930; one daughter, Mrs. Galen (Judy) Wilson of Blue Rock; and three grandsons, Jeff Wilson, Mike Wilson and John Wilson.

        She was preceded in death by one son, Charles W. Zink Jr.; one brother, Bud Parsons; and three sisters, Pearl Zinn, Mabel Waltermier and Geneva Early.

        Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Thompson-Farus Funeral Home in Duncan Falls, where services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, with the Rev. Roy Keyser officiating.

        Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
