Saffell, William Jr. Saffell

Monroe County Beacon, Woodsfield, Ohio, dated, July 27, 2006

       William “Bill” Saffell, Jr. 34, Beallsville, died July 22, 2006 near Beallsville. He was born June 29, 1972, in Bellaire, a son of William Mike” and Juanita Hvizdak Saffell.

       He was an employee of Bennoc, Inc.

       Surviving in addition to his parents, are two sisters, Staycee Saffell of Bethesda, and Jamey (David) Taylor of Beallsville; a niece and nephew, Laykottaha and David; uncles, John (Beth) Saffell of New Lexington, and Roger Saffell of Powhatan; and several cousins.

       Friends were received at Harper Funeral Home, Beallsville, July 25 until time of service. Graveside services will be held July 26, at 10 a.m., at Beallsville Cemetery.

Salisbury, Jack Salisbury

Bauer-Turner Obituaries, Woodsfield, Ohio, dated, October 3, 2006

     Jack Brent Salisbury of Woodsfield, Ohio passed away on October 2, 2006, at Wheeling Medical Park. He was born on July 12, 1925 in Rinard Mills, Ohio, son of the late Jacob and Eulala English Salisbury.

    He graduated from Graysville High School in 1943, entered the U.S. army and served in both the European and Pacific Theaters as combat infantry in Patton's 3rd. Army. He graduated from Marietta College in 1950 and also attended Ohio University in Athens. Jack taught for 36 years in the Switzerland of Ohio School District.

    He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Victor Salisbury.

    Surviving is his wife Mary Reed Salisbury of Woodsfield, sister Elsie Salisbury Buchman and niece Madelyn (Don) Heslop of Marietta, Ohio. Also surviving are several sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Jack was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Woodsfield, Ohio, a life time member of the National Rifle Association, Past Master of the Masonic Lodge #89, member and Past President of the former Lions Club, and member of the former K. of P. Lodge.

    Friends received from (4 - 8) p.m. Wednesday and from 12 noon until time of services at 1 p.m. Thursday Oct. 5, 2006 at the Bauer-Turner funeral Home 100 S. Paul St. Woodsfield, Ohio with Rev. Richard Wilson and Rev. Frank Lehosky Officiating. Interment in the Oaklawn Cemetery Woodsfield. Military Services will be conducted by the Belmont Veterans Council. Masonic Lodge service to be held Wednesday evening at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, 303 S. Main St. Woodsfield, Ohio or the Charity of your choice.

 

Salisbury, Lester M. Salisbury

      Salisbury, Lester M., age 79, of Route 1, New Martinsville, WV, died Monday, July 24, 2006 in Wheeling Hospital, Wheeling, WV.

      He was born April 9, 1927, in Paden City, WV, a son of the late Lawrence and Bessie Williamson Salisbury.

      He was a retired employee of Viking Glass and L.G. Wright Glass, owner of Les's Dog Supply in New Martinsville, a member of the American Legion Post 28 in New Martinsville, an Army Medic and veteran of WWII, and a Methodist by faith.

      In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Leon and Edward Salisbury, and a sister, Betty Ritchie.

      Survivors include his wife, Gladys O'Neil Salisbury, two sons, Lester (Brenda) Salisbury of FL and Bradley Scott Salisbury of New Martinsville, three step-children, Ralph (Robin) O'Neil and Rodney (Trisha) O'Neil, both of New Martinsville, and Marjean (Robert) Rice of Middlebourne, WV, two brothers, Lawrence "Jake" Salisbury of Fly, Ohio and Clarence (June) Salisbury of Sardis, Ohio, four sisters, Cleo J. "Toots" Salisbury of Woodsfield, Ohio, Helen (Chris) Ensinger of Sardis, Eileen Adams of Fly and Ruth Rush of New Matamoras, Ohio, five grandchildren, several step grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

      Family will receive friends on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9pm at Grisell Funeral Home & Crematory, 751 Third Street, New Martinsville, where funeral services will be Friday at 1:00pm with Rev. Frank Conley and President Joe Ingold officiating.

      Interment in Sardis Cemetery where the Sistersville VFW Post 6327 will conduct military graveside services.

 

Satterfield, Thelma Ileeta Satterfield nee Kinkade

        SUNNYSIDE- Our beloved Mother, Grandma, Frandi, Thelma Ileeta (Kinkade) Satterfield, passed away July 8, 2006 in Sunnyside at the age of 79.  Thelma was born August 28, 1926 to John David and Essie May (Carr) Kinkade in Conway, Missouri.         After her birth, her Mother returned to Montana where her father and older siblings were farming. In 1934 she and her family made the move further west to Washington State and settled in Mabton. Thelma had a love for school and graduated from Mabton High School in 1944 with honors.

         In 1945, she married Elmer Lee Satterfield on June 19, in Selah, WA., while Elmer was on leave from the Navy.  They soon made their home in Mabton and raised a son, David E. and a daughter, Karen L.

        Thelma worked many places throughout her lifetime. She worked a few years for Carnation Milk in Sunnyside. She then went to work for the Fred C. Story Agency, where she handled various individual's income tax and sold various types of insurance. She bought that business from Mr. Story, but sold it a few years later. She then decided to go to work for Ivan White and Assoc., but only during the tax season. In the middle of all of this, she found time to serve her community and served two terms as Mayor of Mabton. When Thelma decided to retire, it was from the City of Granger, where she had served as a city clerk. Through all this, she always kept a clean house, beautiful flower garden, have time to beat you at a game of dice or cards and cook enough food to feed anyone who happened to stop by. Her saying was "If you get up from my table hungry, it's your own damn fault!"  Thelma will be deeply missed by all who know and loved her.

         Thelma is survived by her loving family, a son, David Satterfield and wife Margaret of Richland, a daughter, Karen Satterfield of Sunnyside, three granddaughters, Monica Stanton and husband, Paul of Sunnyside, Rene Martinez and husband Ramon, of Petaluma, California, Nanci Shrauner and fiancé Michael Rushman of Pasco; four great-grandchildren, Justin, Sofia, Braden, and Isabella as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

         Her parents, John and Essie Kinkade, her husband of 60 years, Elmer, two brothers, Harley and Charles Kinkade, and a sister, Veda Harrison preceded her

in death.

         Funeral services for Thelma will be held on Friday, July 14, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Sunnyside with concluding services to follow at the Mabton Cemetery.  Those wishing to honor Thelma's memory may do so by contributing to the American Cancer Society, American Diabetes Association or any charity of the donor's choice. Saufley, Lavada R. Saufley nee Decker

Monroe County Beacon, Woodsfield, Ohio, dated, April 20, 2006

       Lavada Saufley, 91, Beallsville, died April 14, 2006, in Woodsfield Nursing and Rehab Center. She was born Dec. 17, 1914, near Beallsville, a daughter of the late Brady and Katie Carpenter Decker.

       She was a retired beautician, a member of the Church of Christ, Beallsville, Order of Eastern Star #24 and the Switzerland of Ohio Ladies Golf Association.

       Surviving are a brother, Harold (Lavella) Decker, Beallsville; several nieces and nephews.

       In addition to her parents, she was preceded  in death by her husband, Syd in 1979; nine sisters and brothers.

       Private interment was held at the convenience of the family.

Schell, Raymond Schell

        MALCOLM---Raymond Schell, 67, Malcolm died Sunday (3/5/06).  Born, Cortland (3/10/38).  Self-employed tradesman while working at American Stores for 20 years and for the Nebraska Game and Parks for seven years. Attended Northwest Community Church.  He was a very selfless, giving and generous man.  The two most important things in his life were God and his family.  He enjoyed the great outdooors with camping and fishing being his favorites.  Other things he enjoyed were listening to his AM radio and watching the sun rise every morning.  His favorite motto was:  "There are no bad days.  Every day is a good day, just some days are better than others."

        Survivors:  son, daughter-in-law, Keith and Lisa Schell, Davey; daughter, Fanchon  Schell, Malcolm; brother, sister-in-law, Richard W. and Patricia Schell, Glenwood, Iowa; sister, brother-in-law, Bev and Don Hawk, Syracuse; sister-in-law, Diane Schell, Lincoln; grandchildren, Dekin and Jade; nieces; nephews, close friend, Sanford H.         LYNN CENTER - Debra Ann Schillinger, 52, Lynn Center, died Wednesday (Jan. 11, 2006) in Rosewood Care Center, Galesburg.

        She was born March 15, 1953, in Galesburg, the daughter of Herbert and Lydia Alexander Olin.

        She married Richard Schillinger on Sept. 18, 1970, in Alpha.

        Surviving are her husband; a daughter, Sheryl Schillinger, Bradford; two sons, Michael Schillinger, Woodhull, and Steven (and Cynthia) Schillinger, with the Air Force in New Mexico; her mother, Lydia Olin, Knox County Nursing Home, Knoxville; a sister, Janice (and Jim) Gluba, Nekoma; four brothers, Daniel (and Karen) Genisio of Louisiana, Charles (and Janice) Genisio, Woodhull, and Robert (and Barbara) Genisio and Roger Olin, both of Galesburg; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, a sister and an infant brother.

        She graduated from AlWood High School.

        She farmed with her husband in the Lynn Center area for 35 years.

        She was an artist, especially oil painting, and enjoyed gardening.

        Cremation was accorded. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Peterson-Wallin-Knox Funeral Home, Woodhull, with the Rev. Rodney Miller officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Private burial will be later.

Schwarz, Louise W. Schwarz nee Westover

Monroe County Beacon, Woodsfield, Ohio, dated, May 11, 2006

       Louise W. Schwarz, 82, 506 Monroe Manor, Woodsfield, died May 8, 2006, at Barnesville. She was born Feb. 26, 1924, in Altoona, Pa., a daughter of the late Jesse Edward and Mary Clarissa Stiffler Westover.

       She was a retired medical assistant and a Protestant by faith.

       Surviving are two daughters, Suzanne Stanley and Sandra Freeman, both of Indiana; four grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

       In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five sisters, Catherine Young, Dorothy Westover, Jessie Morse, Marjorie Grey, Elaine

Reynolds; two brothers, Joseph Westover, Richard Westover.

       Friends will be received May 10, from 6-8 p.m. at Watters Funeral Home, where services will be held May 11, at 11a.m., with Pastor Sheryl Allen officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery, Woodsfield.

 

 Shapley, James William Shapley
 Marietta Times, Marietta, Ohio, dated, February 1, 2006
           NEW MATAMORAS - James William Shapley, 81, of 51058 State Route 7, New Matamoras, died at 10:42 p.m. Monday (Jan. 30, 2006) at Marietta Memorial Hospital.  He was born Dec. 14, 1924, in New Matamoras, a son of James Gentry and Eunice Ann Alloway Shapley. He was a heavy equipment operator, and was a member of Operating Engineers Local 18, District 6, Cleveland.  On Dec. 25, 1960, he married Edith Marie Stewart Shapley, who survives.
           Also surviving are two sons, James Patrick Shapley and his wife, Rita Ann, of Woodsfield, and John Gale Shapley and his wife, Lorah Lee, of Woodsfield; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Rebecca Jane Byers, of Canton; and several nieces and nephews.
           He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Kenneth Shapley.
           Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Hadley Funeral Home, New Matamoras, with the Rev. Frank Conley officiating.  Burialwill be in Grandview Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

 

Shaw, Phillip Shaw

Times Leader, Martins Ferry, Ohio, dated, September 7, 2006

    Phillip Shaw, 81, of Wagner Avenue, Bellaire, Ohio, died Sunday, Sept. 3, 2006 in Belmont Community Hospital, Bellaire.

    He was born March 18, 1925 in Bellaire, the son of the late Burt and Telka Wenzel Shaw.

    He was a World War II Navy veteran, a retired employee of Ohio Edison Co., a member of Aerie #995 Eagles of Bridgeport and attended Faith Fellowship Church, Bellaire.

    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Rayner Shaw.

    Survivors include a daughter, Linda Shaw and her husband, Chris Schultz of Sun Valley, Idaho; a brother, George Shaw of Springfield, Ohio; two sisters, Dorothy Cunningham of Martins Ferry and Marie (Burt) Woollard of Bellaire; several nieces and nephews and a dear friend, Ida Lisk of Sardis, Ohio.

    There will be no visitation.

    Graveside services and Interment will be held Saturday at 1 p.m.., at Powhatan Cemetery Chapel, Powhatan Point, Ohio, with Rev. Bill Marinelli officiating.

        James E. "Jake" Shields, 79, of Mentor, Ohio, passed away Aug. 18, 2006, at the Cleveland Clinic.

        He was born in Parkersburg and retired from Mupro Products of Solon, Ohio, as a machinist. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He enjoyed gadgets and electronics, enjoyed sports and sports memorabilia and tinkering with photography.

        Surviving are three sons, Gary Shields of Mentor, Brian and Christine Shields of Mentor and Alan Shields of Florida; two daughters, Charlene Shields and Tom Kish of Perry, Ohio, and Charlotte Raico and David of Madison, Ohio; two grandchildren, Cory and Jessica Raico; and one sister, Inez Leach of Parkersburg.

        He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Shields, and three brothers.

        The funeral service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Kimes Funeral Home, 521 Fifth St., Parkersburg. Burial will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Shopper, Elizabeth Shopper nee Poulain

    Elizabeth M. "Betty" Marsh Shopper, 88, of Shadyside, Ohio, died Thursday, July 27, 2006, at the Shadyside Care Center in Shadyside, Ohio.

    She was born January 30, 1918, in Martins Ferry, Ohio, a daughter of the late Lawrence and Mary Walker Poulain.

    Betty was a homemaker and a member of the St. Mary Catholic Church in Shadyside, Ohio.

    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, George Marsh in 1962; and her second husband, Joseph Shopper, in 1993; a daughter, Patricia Lowe; and her brother, Joseph Poulain.

    Surviving are three children: Robert G. Marsh and his wife, Mary, of Moundsville, West Virginia; Mary Jo Hammond and her husband, Jack, of Woodsfield, Ohio; and Beverly J. Marsh of Shadyside, Ohio. Also 15 grandchildren, 24 great - grandchildren and numerous great – great grandchildren.

    Family and friends will be received at the Bauknecht - Altmeyer Funeral Homes and Crematory, 3900 Central Avenue, Shadyside, Ohio, on Sunday, July 30, 2006, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., where services will be held on Monday at 10 a.m., with Father Frank C.       Shreve, Wanda Virginia Morgan O'Neil, age 79, of River Park Manor, New Matamoras, Ohio, formerly of New Martinsville, WV, died Tuesday, January 17, 2006 in Wetzel County Hospital, New Martinsville.  She was born February 21, 1926 in Paden City, WV, the daughter of the late Russell E. Morgan and Bertha (Bertie) Barkes Morgan.   She was a member of the New Matamoras Chapter #261 Order of the Eastern Star, the American Legion Auxiliary in New Matamoras, a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and a homemaker.

      In addition to her parents and an infant brother, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Roy O'Neil, her second husband, Jack Shreve, two brothers, Wayne E. Morgan and Norman Lee Morgan, and a sister, Betty Jean Morgan Powell.

      Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn Rae (Franklin) O'Neil Powell of St. Marys, WV, and Nancy L. (John) O'Neil Lasure of New Martinsville, a son Roger Keith O'Neil of Benwood, WV, nine grandchildren, Franklin C. Powell II of Charleston, WV, Benjamin Morgan Powell of Marietta, Georgia, Terry O'Neil Williams of Columbus, Ohio, Amy O'Neil Wallace of Mississippi, Roger Junior O'Neil of New Martinsville, Lori Dulaney of Smithfield, WV, Jeffrey, Natasha and Zachary O'Neil, all of Benwood, nine great grandchildren, Adam M. and Gwynne M. Powell, Grant Williams, Tasha Dulaney, Roger Junior, Whitney, James, Lisa and Tracy O'Neil, and several nieces and nephews.

Shriver, Gregory "Kevin" Shriver

        OBERLIN -- Gregory ''Kevin'' Shriver, 42, of Oberlin, died Tuesday, March 7, 2006, at Allen Medical Center, Oberlin, following a short illness.

        He was born in Lake Worth, Fla., and lived most of his life in Lorain County. He graduated from North Ridgeville High School in 1982.

        Shriver was employed as a sheet metal worker with Hohler Sheet Metal Co., Sandusky.

        He enjoyed wolves and with his wife, Diane, had ''adopted'' one at Wolf Park in Indiana. He was a member of Sheet Metal Workers Union Local 33 in Vermilion and enjoyed NASCAR, camping, travel and pool.

        Survivors include his wife of 18 years, Diane (nee Holan); his parents, Adrian and Jean (nee Martin) Shriver of North Ridgeville; brothers Bret of Elyria and Brian of North Ridgeville; and aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Wayne and Maureen (nee Smith) Shriver and Lyle and Evelyn (nee Mendenhall) Martin.

        Services in the chapel at Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon, are private. Memorial contributions may be made to Wolf Park, Battle Ground, IN 47920.

        William F. William F. Shue, 84, of Toledo, passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2006 in Hospice of NW Ohio. Siefert, Pat A. Siefert, nee Cherry

        Pat A. Siefert, 78, of Shelbyville, died Friday, Dec. 15, 2006, at Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility in Columbus.

        Born Nov. 22, 1928, in Shelbyville, she was the daughter of Raymond and Eva (Pope) Cherry.  She married Walt Siefert on July 2, 1948, and he preceded her in death on June 10, 1997.

        Survivors include one son, Wade E. (wife, Katie) Siefert of Shelbyville; three daughters, Linda K. (husband, Tom) Moulton, Penny J. (husband, William) Gunckel and Theresa M. Aulby, all of Shelbyville; 10 grandchildren, Tonya Hopper, Charles Popplewell, Michael Hackworth, Sandra R. Burnett, Donald R. Burnine, Amberla Fields, Chuck Sleeth, April Smith, Mary Wilson and Stacey Siefert; and 23 great-grandchildren.

        She also was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Wally Siefert; one sister, Loretta Cord; and one great-granddaughter, Destiny Popplewell.

        Mrs. Siefert was a lifelong Shelbyville resident.

        She had been a vinyl siding contractor with Siefert Construction Inc. for 46 years, retiring in 2003.

        Mrs. Siefert graduated in 1947 from Shelbyville High School.

        She was a member of Lewis Creek Baptist Church, American Legion Post No. 70 Ladies Auxiliary and the Order of the Eastern Star.  She was a former member of the Blue River Motorcycle Club.

        Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home, 437 Amos Road

        Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jim Stephens officiating.

       Simpkins, Benjamin F. , 58, of Long Ridge Road, Clarington, Ohio, died Sunday, Feb. 5, 2006 at Reynolds Memorial Hospital, Glen Dale, W.Va. He was born Nov. 22, 1947 in Branchland, W. Va., the son of the late Telma Brunty. He retired as a truck driver for Slay Trucking on September 1, 2005.  He was a Captain and helicopter pilot of the 82nd Airborne Army Aviation during the Vietnam War for which he was awarded the Purple Heart, Silver Star, Bronze Star with V’s, and the Distinguished Service Cross. He was a Protestant by faith.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by three brothers, John, James, and Charles “Hank” Simpkins.

Survivors include his wife, Charlotte “Sharkey” Reed Simpkins; two sons, Benjamin Simpkins Jr., of  Largo, Fla., and Freelin Simpkins of Glenville, W. Va., a stepdaughter, Amy Brown of Sardis, Ohio; a stepson, David Crawford of Paden City, W. Va.; a sister, Margaret (Don) Whitney of Youngstown, Ohio; a brother, Rex “Ace” (Vickie) Simpkins of McClenny, Fla.; five grandchildren, Connie, Austin, Sidney, Kaleb and Kaelee, and several nieces and nephews.
         Family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., at Grisell Funeral Home & Crematory, 751 Third Street, New Martinsville, where funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m., with Rev.     Sindeldecker, Lawrence E. "Larry" Sindeldecker, 76, of 114 Front Street, Powhatan Point, Ohio, joined the love of his life, Janis Palmer Sindeldecker

on Friday, August 18, 2006.

    Larry was born April 26, 1930, in Akron, Ohio, a son of the late Luther and Florence Anderson Sindeldecker.

    He was retired from the military after 22 1/2 years of service to his country.

    He served in the United States Army during the Korean War, and in the United States Air Force during Vietnam.

    He was a member of General MacArthur's Honor Guard and Honor Guard Society.

    He also served at NASA in Florida, and was retired from the Consolidation Coal Corporation's former #4 Mine, in Clarington, Ohio.

    He was a life member of the Powhatan VFW Post #5565, was an Eagle Scout and was Methodist by faith.

    In addition to his beloved wife, he was preceded by his step-mother Lena Shaw Sindeldecker; grandson David Soltis II; two brothers: Robert and James Sindeldecker; two sisters: Martha Yocum and Anna Sindeldecker.

    Surviving is a son, Mark E. (Monica) Sindeldecker of Barton; two daughters: Kathy (David) Soltis of Freeport; and Debora (Gene) Glasgow of

Powhatan Point.

    He is also survived by five grandchildren: Michael Sindeldecker; Amber Sindeldecker and fiancee John Major; and Andrea Sindeldecker, all of Barton; Eric Glasgow; Lacie Glasgow and fiancee Jason Holliday, all of Powhatan; and two great-grandchildren: Isabel Soltis and Davey Emma Soltis of Columbus, Ohio; and four step-grandchildren: Brandon White, Dallas and Chase Lawson and Kennedy Cobb, all of Columbus.

    Family and friends will be received Monday from 6 to 8 p.m., and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the Bauknecht-Altmeyer Funeral Homes and Crematory, 186 Main Street, Powhatan Point, Ohio, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday.

    Entombment will be at Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove, Ohio.

    Powhatan Veterans Honor Guard will conduct Military services at 10:45 a.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home.

        BICKNELL - Shirley Ann Siscel, 67, Bicknell, passed away Friday morning, May 26, 2006, at her home with her family at her side.

        She was born Dec. 31, 1938, in Princeton, the daughter of Jesse James and Mary Olive (Henry) Hoadley.

        She was a member of the Bicknell United Methodist Church and she worked for many years with the Wabash Valley Human Services in the Social Services Department and Head Start. She was a member of the Knox County Child Protection Team, and North Knox Social Ministries where she served as president for several terms.

        On Aug. 9, 1957, she was united in marriage to James Robert Siscel who survives her. She is also survived by their children and spouses, Mark and Cheryl A. Siscel of Clarksville, Ga., Beth Ann and Joseph Furman of Otwell, and Brian E. and Laura L. Siscel of Townsend, Ga. She was blessed with four grandchildren, Jessica B. Siscel, Michael J. Siscel, Anna N. Siscel and Emily Siscel. A brother, Gary Hoadley of Evansville; and a sister, Connie Rueger of Muskegon, Mich., also survive.

        She was preceded in death by a son, Michael Siscel in 1961 in infancy.

        The funeral will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Bicknell United Methodist Church, 309 W. Third St. The Rev. Marianne Hawkins will officiate. She will be laid to rest in the Asbury Chapel Cemetery.

        The family will receive friends from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Duesterberg-Fredrick Wampler Shaw chapel, 118 Washington St., and one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the church.

        Memorial contributions can be made in her memory to North Knox Social Ministries.

 

Slusher, Layne Glen Slusher

        Layne Glen Slusher, 74, of Belleville, W.Va., died Nov. 13, 2006, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital.

        He was born in Cairo, W.Va., the son of the late William and Daisy Lamp Slusher. He had retired from the Wood County Board of Education and attended the Hopewell Church of Christ. He was a member of the Parkersburg Masonic Lodge 3 where he was a 32nd Degree Scottich Rite and was a member of the Shriners and the Hillbillies. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran.

       He is survived by his wife, Barbara Ann Dillon Slusher of Belleville; his children, Vicky Casto and Montie Slusher of Parkersburg and Tina Slusher of Belleville; one niece whom he raised, Heather Sylvester of Washington, W.Va.; his grandchildren, Nathan Casto of Belleville, Megan Ferguson of Mineral Wells, Brittany Slusher of Belleville and Ian Slusher of Parkersburg; his great-grandchildren, Kaleigh, Blake, Amaya and Conner; one sister, Annabelle Snyder of Belleville; and several nieces and nephews.

        He was preceded in death by his brother, Carl Slusher, and one infant sister.

        Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the Leavitt Funeral Home in Parkersburg, with Evangelist Andy Robison officiating. Burial will be in the Independence Cemetery.

Visitation will be 5-9 p.m. Wednesday.

        Coral Dillon Small, 70, of Beverly, Ohio, died Feb. 7, 2006, at Marietta Memorial Hospital.

        She was born March 8, 1935, in Sarvis Fork, Jackson County, W.Va., a daughter of the late Elem and Velma Morgan Dillon. At different times, she was a member of the Serepta Baptist Church in Wadesville, W.Va., and Rockport Full Gospel Church. For many years, she served families with in-home health care. She enjoyed Thursday's bluegrass music at Ravenswood. She was a member of the Eagles of Beverly. Even though she was handicapped and confined to a wheelchair, she loved to fish, pick berries, cook, baby-sit her grandchildren and play practical jokes.

        She is survived by her loving companion, Virgil D. Porter of Waterford, Ohio; children, Kym Small Roush of Beverly and Anita Small of Watertown, Ohio; brother, Howard "Ed" Dillon of Medina, W.Va.; sisters, Lil Hoschar of Alaska, Barb Slusher of Belleville, W.Va., Ila Petty of Medina, Christene Lane of Sandyville, W.Va., Gail Dillon of Ravenswood and Chryl Pence of Millwood, W.Va.; 15 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

        In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, L. Stewart Evans; great-granddaughter, Courtney Roush; great-grandson, Koree Small; husband, Bud Small; brother, Keith Dillon; and sister, Mary Dillon Braniff.

        Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Roush Funeral Home, Ravenswood, with Pastor Forrest "Bud" Kinder officiating. Burial will be in Independence Cemetery, Sandyville. Friends may visit the family from 4-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

       Rev. Lawrence R. Smith, Sr., 78, Akron, went home to be with the Lord, Aug. 30, 2006. He was born Feb.6, 1928, in New Martinsville, a son of the late Lloyd and Lena Kocher Smith.

       He was a U.S. Army veteran, retired from Carter Jones Lumber Co. and attended Liberty Freewill Baptist Church.

       Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Lucille Talley Smith; three daughters, Brenda (Dave) Van Camp, Deborah Williams and Shelia (Dennis) Wade; son, Lawrence (Deborah) Smith, Jr.; sister, Gladys (David) Anthony; two brothers, Homer (Vera) Smith, Highland (Winnie) Smith; two sisters, Florence (Vernon) Straub, Emma Jean (Dean) Rufener; numerous nieces and nephews; seven grandchildren, Trisha Mensore, Michelle Starkey, David Van Camp, Paige Ugo, Augie Williams IV, Mason and Jacob McInturff, Jordon, Makayla, Kaleb and Thomas Lawrence Smith.

       In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Jeffrey Ciancio; great granddaughter, Amanda Starkey and brother, James Smith.

    Eileen was retired from the former Ohio Bell Telephone Co., a member of Assumption Catholic Church and the Assumption Catholic Womens Club of Barnesville, Ohio.

     In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters: Laura Armbruster, Leona and Hilda Smithberger, Helen V. Bishop, and Alberta Huth; brothers: Vernon, Clarence, Harry, Robert and Paul Smithberger.

    Surviving are a sister, Ruth Smithberger of Barnesville; a sister-in-law, Viola Smithberger, of Oak Harbor, Ohio.

       She was a homemaker and a former employee of the former L.G.A.M. Manufacturing in Woodsfield, and a Protestant by faith. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, bingo and was an avid bowler.

       Surviving are her husband, James Smithberger, whom she married on Dec. 2, 1967; two daughters, Anita Delong of Stafford, Kim Smithberger of Ashland; two sisters, Dauline Tubaugh of Ravenna, Dorothy Gray of Barnesville; five brothers, Ronald Swallie of Bridgeport, Clesson Swallie of Belmont, Donald Swallie, Richard Swallie and Jim Swallie, all of Barnesville; four grandchildren, Skye Roe, Jessica Smithberger, Cody Stimpert, Raven Delong; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

       In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Luella Howell, Pauline Milhoan, Sharon Clark; two brothers, James Floyd Swallie and Allen Derward Swallie.

 She was born in Sardis, Ohio on October 18, 1914, a daughter of the late Simon and Ollie Lee Brown.

 She was a homemaker; and a member of the Locust Grove United Methodist Church near Sardis.

 In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Smittle, on July 9, 1992; one son, James R. Smittle; two sisters, Virginia Stone and Blanche Jones; and one brother, Floyd Brown.

Surviving are one daughter, Audrey (Thomas) Kuebel of Sardis; three sons, Clyde Smittle of Sardis, Cecil (Marilyn) Smittle of Sardis, and Ralph Smittle of River Rouge, Michigan; a daughter-in-law, Phyllis Smittle of Marion Center, Pennsylvania; 12 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

She was born January 16, 1942 in Canton, Ohio, the daughter of the late Carl and Violet Lively Beisel.

          She was a former order clerk with Viking Glass and Fostoria, a charter member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW #9930, Duffy, Ohio, a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion Post 760, Hannibal, Ohio, Theodora Rebekah Lodge #891, and a member of the First Church of God in Duffy.

          Survivors include her husband, Cecil Smittle, three daughters, Sherrie (Pete) Rist, Tanya (Rodney) Roberts, and Angel (Jug) Armann, all of Hannibal; two sisters, Shelby Thomas of Sardis, and twin sister, Carolyn (Lonnie) Potts of Hannibal; two brothers, Charles "Sonny" (Bonnie) Gehring of Bessimer, NC and Donald (Barbara) Beisel of Duffy; seven grandchildren, Ryan Collins, Heath Collins, Brittany Kilburn, Laighnell Roberts, Ashley Armann, Tiffany Armann, and Jerrett Armann; a great grandson, Tyler Collins; several nieces and nephews.

    Thelma L. Snodgrass, 92, of Shadyside, Ohio formerly or Bellaire, Ohio died Saturday, Nov. 18, 2006 at the Shadyside Care Center in Shadyside, Ohio.

    She was born Dec. 26, 1913 in Huntington, W.Va., a daughter of the late Audley C. and Marjorie Haynes Newlon.

    Thelma was a member of the South Bellaire United Methodist Church in Bellaire, Ohio and the Ladies Auxiliary for the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen, Lodge 972 in Wheeling, W.Va.

    In addition to her parents, Thelma was preceded in death by her husband, Luther Snodgrass on Sept. 23, 1999, and one son, Donald Snodgrass, who also died on Sept. 23, 1999 and four sisters: Marguerite Newlon, Marjorie Newlon, Ruby Crumbaker and Elizabeth Keller.

    Surviving are three children: Barbara Frasnelly and her husband, Robin, of Lansing, Ohio; William Snodgrass and his wife, Gail, of Woodsfield, Ohio; and Dennis Snodgrass of Bellaire; one sister, Wilma Bonar of Moundsville, W.Va. and two brothers, Charles Newlon of Benwood, W.Va. and William Newlon of Seaford, Del. Also four grandsons: Scott Frasnelly, Kurt Frasnelly, Brian Snodgrass and William Snodgrass and three great-grandchildren: Taylor Frasnelly, Megan Snodgrass and Justin Snodgrass.

       Raymond D. Snyder, 76, 34497 SR 78, Lewisville, died Nov. 25, 2006, at Wheeling Hospital, Wheeling. He was born near Lewisville, Dec. 17, 1929, a son of the late Charles and Wanita Bognes Snyder.  He was a self-employed truck driver and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

       Surviving are two daughters, Vicki (Ron) English of Lewisville, Teresa (Bob) Burkhart of Malaga; a son Tim (Sharon) Snyder of Summerfield; five grandchildren, Tony (Amy) English, Bradley Snyder, Peggy (Nathan) Pitts, Joey Burkhart and Michael Burkhart.

       In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sara Lou Wise Snyder on Feb. 11, 2006; sister, Missouri Harrison; grandson, Christopher English.

       In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Leach; five brothers, Paul, Robert, Kenneth, Junior and Sylvan Wise; grandson. Christopher English.

       Stella Schumacher Spangler, 91, North Canton, died June 8, 2006, at St. Joseph’s Care Center. She was born Dec. 17, 1914, in Woodsfield, to the late Joseph and Anna Paulus Schumacher.

       She was a member of St. Paul’s Church in North Canton, former member of the St. Paul’s Women’s Guild. She participated in initial Christ Renews His Parish, bingo committees and various service groups in the parish, “Adopted” many priests and brothers from Africa while they attended Walsh University, served as secretary for the Spangler Insurance and Real Estate Agency and was an insurance agent along with her husband. She was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved family, her faith, friends, cooking, flowers and gardening and was an active supporter of the North Canton Community and the African Missions.

       Surviving are her husband of 66 years, Herman L. Spangler, whom she married June 27, 1939, at St. Sylvester’s Church in Woodsfield; sons, Paul (Joan) Spangler, Dr. Robert (Donna) Spangler, daughter, Sister Mary Ann Spangler, HM; grandchildren, Sandra, Sandra (Mark) O’Conner, Paul (Bonnie) Spangler, Sharon (Tom) Perko, Linda (Eric) Hammond, Anna (Brian) Finnigan, Dr. Theodore (Kalpa) Spangler, Laura (Michael) Mead, Michael, Daisy, Katherine and Christine Spangler; great-grandchildren, Robyn and Amanda Spangler, Christy and Erika Perko, Alex and James Hammond, Nyla Spangler, Molly Estelle Mead and many nieces and nephews.

       In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Edmund; and a sister, Marie.

Sylvia loved crafts and loved to read.

Orville 'Bud' Spicer, 65

        DUNCAN FALLS - Orville "Bud" Spicer, 65, 5155 Center Road, Philo, died at approximately 11:15 a.m. Monday, April 24, 2006, at his residence.

        Born April 29, 1940, in Zanesville, he was a son of the late Clarence and Vivian Harper Spicer. Bud retired from the Ohio Ferro Alloy Plant in Philo and went to work at The Longaberger Co. after retirement. Bud was a member of the National Musselloader Association and an avid member of the Gold Prospectors of America and loved panning for gold.

        He is survived by his two daughters, Penny Spicer of the home and Lori and Brian Dodd of Bladensburg; grandchildren, Devaney, Morgan, Logan and Alex Dodd; and a half sister, Peggy Abrams of Pleasant City; brothers-in-law, Ronnie Khune of Newark and Larry and Shirley Khune of Blue Rock; and a sister-in-law, Mary Ann Khune of Newark.

        He was preceded in death by his wife, Delores Spicer, who died Dec. 3, 2001.

       Eleanor M. Stegner, 86, Woodsfield, died April 28, 2006, at Monroe County Care Center. She was born March 16, 1920, in Belmont County, a daughter of the late Charles and Jessie Davis Garrett.

       She was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Woodsfield Garden Club, Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW and Women’s Guild of St. Paul’s Church to which she devoted much of her time. She was a devoted wife and mother and a wonderful Christian lady and will be sadly missed by family and friends.

        Walter Stemkowski, 83, of Shadyside, Ohio, died Saturday, Aug. 12, 2006 at the Belmont Community Hospital in Bellaire, Ohio.

        He was born June 6, 1923 at Avondale, Ohio, a son of the late Thomas and Mary Kutaszinska Stemkowski.

        Walter was retired from the cast house at the Ormet Corporation at Hannibal, Ohio; a member of the St. Mary Catholic Church in Shadyside, Ohio.

He was a member of the VFW Post 626 and DAV Post 117, both of Bellaire; American Legion Post 521 of Shadyside, Eagles Aire 371 of Bellaire and the Ormet Retirement Club. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

         In addition to his parents, Walter was preceded in death by one brother, Louis Stemkowski and two sisters, Blanche Paliswat and Mildred Kosar.

          Surviving are his wife, Sarah Elizabeth Walter Stemkowski; one daughter, Marie Gibbs and her husband, Kevin, of Westerville, Ohio; brothers-in-law, Pete Paliswat of Shadyside, Ohio; Joseph Kosar of Tiltonsville; brother and sisters-in-law, Madelyn Hajdin and her husband, Mike, of Colerain, and Fred Minkemeyer and his wife, Gloria, of Rayland; also, several nieces and nephews.

       He was a retired factory worker for Dana Corporation in Caldwell, a member of the Summerfield Church of Christ, Summerfield, and a member of the Olive Lodge F. & A.M., Mt. Ephraim. He enjoyed fishing and watching the Cleveland Indians.

        Born May 31, 1916, in Franklin County, she was the daughter of Ezra and Minnie (Price) Rumple; both deceased. She married Forest Steward March 5, 1934; he preceded her in death Feb. 1, 1989.

        Mrs. Steward was a homemaker.

        Survivors include three sons, Marion Steward (and wife Dorothy) of Carthage, Albert Steward (and wife Shirley) of Greenfield and Floyd Steward (and wife Sharon) of Anderson; four daughters, Virginia Davis of Carthage and Alice (Mrs. Charles) Baker, Violet Clay and Carol Smith, all of Greenfield; one brother, Jessie Rumple (and wife Emma) of Carthage; one sister, Nellie Brown of New Castle; 20 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

        Besides her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one son, Jack Steward; one daughter, Evelyn; five brothers; and one sister.

       He lived in Woodsfield several years ago before moving to Cadiz. He was an active member of the Church of Christ while living in Woodsfield.

       Surviving are a sister, Clara Bertschy of Ashland and a sister-in-law, Ida Schilling Stewart of Creston.

        Herbert D. Stimpert, age 77, of Canton, passed away Sunday evening in his home. He was born in Woodsfield, OH, a son of the late Everett and Emma Weber Stimpert, and had been a Canton resident since 1951.  Herbert was a graduate of Woodsfield High School and retired in 1991 from The Timken Co., after 40 years service, where he was a bearing inspector. He was a member of Golden Lodge #1123 United Steelworkers of America AFL-CIO, and the A.A.R.P. Herbert enjoyed all sports, especially baseball, gardening, and loved his dogs.

Survived by his wife, Theresa R. Stimpert, with whom he celebrated their 47th Wedding Anniversary on June 30, 2006; two stepsons and a daughter-in-law, Josh H. Devore, of Canton, and Bill A. and Emmy Devore, of Dublin, OH; one brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Virginia Stimpert, of Edison, NJ; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

       Jerry Edmond Stimpert, 64, Lewisville, died July 2, 2006, at the Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland. He was born Aug. 22, 1941, in Lewisville, a son of the late George Stimpert and Zelda Feiber Stimpert.

       He was a Nazarene by faith. He retired from Lewisville Hardwoods and was a former stripminer. He was a member of the country and gospel band “The Good Ole Boys” where he enjoyed playing keyboard. He was a great husband, father, and grandfather.

       Robert Dallas Stine, 86, Wooster, formerly of Monroe County, died Dec. 13, 2006, at the West View Manor, Wooster. He was born Jan. 29, 1920, in Jefferson County, a son of the late Ernest Leroy Stine and Georgia Ethel Whitacre Stine. Robert’s mother died during childbirth and he was reared by Ernest’s sister and her husband, Lester and Cora Stine Alexander.  He graduated from Antioch High School in 1938. He and his first wife moved to Wayne County, Ohio, where he worked for Timken Company in Wooster. He served in the Army during World War II from 1944-46 and retired from Timken on Feb. 1, 1979, after 38 years. He had a real estate license for many years.

       Surviving are a son, John L. (Laura) Stine of West Salem; daughter, Ethel Irene (Robert) Reusser of Woodsfield; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

       In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Martha Covert Stine in 1989, whom he married Sep. 2, 1940; second wife, Eilene King Stine in 1993; third wife, Catherine Copeland Stine; and a granddaughter, Kathleen Wilsey in 1993.

       Friends were received Dec. 15 and 16 until time of service at Bauer-Turner Funeral Home, Woodsfield. Burial in Plainview Cemetery, near Woodsfield.  

 

Strobel, William H. Strobel

        William H. "Bill'' Strobel, age 68, passed away peacefully Sunday September 24, 2006 in Hospice Care Center of Akron, Ohio, surrounded by his loving family. He was born March 9, 1938 in Canton, Ohio, to the late Harry R. and Virginia M. (Berry) Strobel.  Bill was a 1956 graduate of Canton South High School and a 1960 graduate of Heidelburg College where he lettered in football and basketball. He retired from Chemionics Corp. in 1996 after 15 years of service, prior to which he was employed by B.F. Goodrich for many years. Bill truly enjoyed "the Farm" after his retirement in Powhatan Point, Ohio. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and sports enthusiast, who took great pride and joy in his grandchildren and all their accomplishments. Bill was a man of great generosity, patience and humor, giving us many wonderful memories and will be missed immensely.

         In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one brother, Robert Strobel.

        He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 24 years, Deb (Hohman); three children, Karin (Tim) Beam, Linda White, Randy (Dusty Millard) Strobel; six grand- children, Bill, Mike, Hannah, Hunter, Makenna and soon to be, Levi; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty and Paul Peden, Darla and Jerry Engel; several nieces and nephews.

    William C. Sturgill, 78, of Grass Lake, Michigan, passed away Nov. 24, 2006 under the loving care of his family and Great Lakes Hospice.

    Sturg is survived by his wife, Marilyn, of 55 years; sons, Brian (Pam) and Rod (Heidi); grandsons, Tim, Jeff, Paul and Zach Sturgill; three great-grandchildren; brother, Karl Sturgill and special aunt, Ruth Tuttle, both of Ohio; half brother, Mike Sturgill and half sister, Dee Sturgill of Texas.

    He was born in Martins Ferry, Ohio and graduated from Beallsville High School. Sturg proudly and honorably served in the U.S. Navy for 10 years on the Thomas E. Fraser and was a veteran of World War II and Korean Conflict.  He was president of the Thomas E. Fraser Association for 12 years and enjoyed attending the reunions. After serving in the military, he was employed by Klumpp Bros. Gravel and later became co-owner of Klumpp Bros. and Crownover Concrete. In 1983, the business was sold and he established Sturgill Sand and Gravel, Brooklyn, Mich., and retired in 2004. Sturg was a 60 year member of the American Legion; life member and past worshipful master of the Grass Lake Masonic Lodge #116; a member of Scottish Rite and Shrine; life member and past patron of Eastern Star, Grass Lake and Fernleaf Chapters.

        Swallie, Betty F., 77, of Malaga, Ohio, died Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2006 at Barnesville Health Care Center. She was born April 6, 1928 in Jerusalem, Ohio, a daughter of the late Alva and Laura Holmes Berry.  Betty was a homemaker and a member of the Jerusalem Church of Christ.
        In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Allen E. Swallie; a sister, Wilma Swallie and a brother, Elmer Berry.

         Ona P. Tallman age 95 of Woodsfield, Ohio went home to be with the Lord and Savior on Tuesday September 19, 2006. She passed away at the Woodsfield Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Ona was born November 30, 1910 in Graysville, Ohio the daughter of the late Frank and Lena Hercher Piatt.

        She was a member of the Church of Christ by faith, and a member of the Rebakah Lodge # 847 I.O.O.F.

        In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Paul E. Tallman, and a brother Everett Piatt. She is survived by her son Glenn E. (Pat) Tallman of Woodsfield, Ohio, a brother Henry Piatt of Graysville, Ohio, a sister Evelyn Weddle of Graysville, Ohio and two grandchildren, Bart E. Tallman of Columbus, Ohio and P. Todd Tallman of New Milford, Connecticut, and one great granddaughter Kaitlyn.

          He was preceded in death by his mother, Lois Hartman Taylor Burkas.

       John William (Bill) Taylor, 66, of Woodsfield, died Jan 23, 2006, at Barnesville Hospital. He was born Oct. 5, 1939, in Monroe County, a son of the late John Taylor and Rosa Conner Taylor.

       He was a retired coal miner and an Army veteran.

       Surviving are his wife, Darlene Hines Taylor, of Woodsfield; son, Ronnie Mellott, of St. Clairsville; four daughters, Kathy Miller, of Fort Wayne, IN, Tammy Taylor of Lewisville, Lisa Carpenter, of Carrolton, Billie Jo Taylor, of Stafford; brother, Bob Taylor, of Lewisville; sister Betty Dyer, of Bellaire; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.

Tenley, Roger William, age 76, of Long Ridge Road, Sardis, Ohio, died Sunday, January 15, 2006 in Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va. He was born October 27, 1929 in Paden City, W.Va., the son of the late William Tenley and Josie Pearl Bolen Tenley Kennedy.  He was a retired millwright at Ormet Corp.; a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in New Martinsville, the VFW Post 9930 of Duffy, Ohio; and a U.S. Navy veteran.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Belva Jones.

         Tennant, Joseph R., Sr., 76, of Bridgeport, died Saturday, January 7, 2006 at his home.  He was born September 4, 1929 in Morristown, the son of the late Joseph and Josephine Sokolowski Tennant.  Joseph was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wolfhurst. He retired from Weirton Steel as a 54” Strip Steel Inspector and was a veteran of the US Army, serving in Japan and then the Korean Conflict.
         In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, John Arthur Tennant.
         He is survived by his wife, Naomi “Toots” Tennant of Bridgeport; five sons, Joseph Jr. and his fiancee, Debbie of Powhatan, Jim and his wife, Darla of St. Clairsville, Jerry and his wife, Cathy of Lansing, Jeff and his wife, Marcy of Bridgeport and Jack and his girlfriend, Crystal of  Bridgeport; nine grandchildren, Alicia, Joseph III, Scott, Casey, Emily, Jennifer, Tiffany, Jeffrey and Kaity; three great-grandchildren, Morgan, Tate and Cruz.

    She was a daughter of the late William and Ada Brown Haught. She was preceded in death by her husband, Josiah Thomas. She is survived by one

           Thomas, Ruth Irene Thomas, 83, of 117 Bartlett St., Marietta,  died at 7:35 p.m.  Wednesday (April 5, 2006) at the Marietta Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.  She was born May 6, 1922, in Rinard Mills, Ohio, to Everett and Mary Piatt Ring. She was a member of the Sixth and Washington Streets Church  of Christ and was a homemaker. Ruth graduated from Graysville High School. During World War II she worked in Canton, Ohio, as a “Rosie the Riveter” and drove a Nickles Bakery truck.
          She married Clyde E. Thomas on Jan. 20, 1946, and became a housewife until her family was reared. She worked for Green Thumb of Guernsey County and as a receptionist for Head Start at Byesville, Ohio, until she retired. She is survived by two daughters, Shirley Ann Westbrook (Lloyd) of  Marietta,Ohio, and Patricia Teters (Gary) of Parkersburg, W.Va.; four grandchildren, Lori Strasser (Drew) of Ormond Beach, Fla., Lisa Smith (David) of  Jonesboro, Ark., Brian Warden (Jessica) of Mount Pleasant, S.C., and Jennifer Warden Sands (Tom) of Parkersburg, W.Va.; four great-grandchildren, Allison and Spencer Strasser of Ormond Beach, Fla., Tennyson Smith of Jonesboro, Ark., and Reid Warden of Mount Pleasant, S.C.; and a sister, Marjorie Lindamood (Ralph) of Massillon, Ohio.
           She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clyde E. Thomas, on May 7, 1984; and an infant daughter, Connie Sue Thomas.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday (April 8, 2006) at Hadley Funeral Homes, Reno Chapel, at 1021 Pike St., with Roger A. Rush officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Park.         THEODORE  P.  THOMAS  SR.   Feb. 26, 1933-Aug. 3, 2006 Born Feb. 26, 1933, T.P. went to be with his Lord Aug. 3, 2006. Tipton, Ruth Tipton nee Burcher

       Ruth Burcher Tipton, 90, a resident of Belmont Tower and formerly of 1048 Sandusky St., Ashland, died March 24, 2006 at Belmont Tower of complications with pneumonia. She was born Nov. 14, 1915, the daughter of the late Dr. William Sherwood Burcher and Jessie Thomas Burcher.

       She graduated from Sunsbury High School and Ohio University where she majored in mathematics. She was a member of Phi Beta Kappa Honorary Society. She was a member of the First Christian Church, where she taught Sunday school and was a member of the Hannah Group and Halcyon Club. She served as treasurer of the church for 30 years.

       She was also a member of Thursday Study Club and the Hillcrest Garden Club, served as Cub Scout, Girl Scout and Brownie leader as well as serving at Pleasant Street School in various leadership roles.

       She was one of the first women elected to the YMCA Board of directors, and served as treasurer for seven years when the YMCA as [sic-was] built on Miller Street. She was an excellent knitter and made sweaters for her children and grandchildren and in later years she knitted 100’s of booties for newborns at Samaritan Hospital and United Way of Ashland County.

       She played bridge with several bridge clubs over the years and enjoyed the friendships made at the bridge table. Ruth was an excellent cook and thoroughly enjoyed entertaining friends in her home. She and her husband traveled extensively throughout the world with many beloved friends. Her family describes her as being quiet, thoughtful, full of grace and perseverance, faithful and intelligent.

       She lived in Ashland since 1939 when her husband, Bob, took a teaching job at Ashland High School. She taught math at Seville, Ohio but her major career was that of being a homemaker, mother and volunteer.

       Surviving are her husband, James Robert Tipton; two daughters, Peggy (Edwin) Tipton Lutz, Nancy Tipton (Dr. Robert) Davis; son, James Sherwood Tipton and his friend Martha; seven grandchildren, Jeffrey (Pam) Lutz, Gastonia, North Carolina, Scott (Patricia) Lutz, Westford, Massachusetts, Jennifer Tipton (Michael) Cinkowsky, Denver, Colorado, James D. (Tanya) Tipton, Salt Lake City, Utah, Margaret Davis (Shawn) Geary, St. Charles, Illinois, Elizabeth Davis (Matt) Manning, Anderson, Indiana, Robert Tipton (Stephanie) Davis of Dayton; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

         Jean E. Gibson Tolzda, 88, of Brockton, Mass., formerly of Powhatan Point, Ohio, died Sunday, Aug. 20, 2006 at the Brockton Hospital, Brockton,

Massachusetts.

         She was born Aug. 26, 1917 at Powhatan Point, Ohio, a daughter of the late Leland (Jack) and Laura Roth Gibson.

          Jean graduated from the former Bellaire City Hospital School of Nursing and worked as an LPN. She also was a homemaker and a member of the Powhatan Point Church of the Nazarene.

         In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph L. Tolzda; two brothers, Pete and Bill Gibson and one sister, Sue Dunfee.

        Surviving are two daughters, Joyce Cokinis of Brockton, Mass., and Cheryl Yingling and her husband, John of Abbottstown, Pa.; one sister, Eileen Brubaker of Powhatan Point; five grand children and seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

        James Edward "Pappy" Toncray, 68, loving husband, father and grandfather died June 22, 2006, at his residence in Belpre.

        He was born in Wood County, W.Va., on Oct. 16, 1937, the son of the late Ira Edward Toncray and Ruth Vera Daughtery Toncray of Belpre. He had owned and operated Jim's Truck Tire Service, has worked for Parkersburg Steel Mill and also the Hite Timber Co. as a timber cutter. Pappy always took care of his family and kids first. He loved working with bulldozers, woodcutting and cars.

        Survivors include his wife, Erma Wilson Toncray; his mother, Ruth; five children, Ruth Ann Bartimus, Ralph David Slone, Deborah Slone, Ira Edward "Speedy" Toncray and James Edward Wolfe; three brothers, Jack, Johnnie and Jerry Toncray; five sisters, Betty Paugh, Grace Stanley, Sue Smith and Donna Perry, all of Belpre, Alma Cox of Parkersburg; 16 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

        His father, Ira, and a brother, William D. Toncray, preceded him in death.

        Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Leavitt Funeral Home, Belpre, with the Rev. Wally Parker officiating. Friends may call from 6-9 p.m. Sunday and up to service time Monday at the funeral home.

    Kenneth E. Townson, age 75, of Columbus, Ohio died Thursday, Sept. 21, 2006 at Riverside Hospital.

    Originally from Powhatan Point, Ohio he retired from Battlelle Memorial Institute after 35 years of service and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was an active member of the Maize Road Baptist Church and attended the Assemblies of God Church for 35 years. He was a member of the American Legion and of the V.F.W.

    He is preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara and son, Edd.

    He is survived by his wife, Jacquelea; sons: Glenn (Kathleen), David (Jerri), and Dana (Mary); daughter, Patty (David) Evans; 15 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; sisters: Mary, Nellie and Rosie (Clarence) Kocher, and brother, Carl; as well as many nieces and nephews.

    Friends may call Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Novak Funeral Home, 4476 N. High St., Columbus, Ohio, (two blocks north of Henderson Road).

    The funeral service will be held Monday at the funeral home and begins at 11 a.m. Pastor John Kirby will be officiating. Interment at Forest Lawn Memorials Gardens, Columbus.

"Bob" Trader, 74, of Bares Run Road, Sardis, died Saturday (Dec. 16, 2006) in Monroe County Care, Woodsfield.  He was born Jan. 17, 1932, in Doddridge County, W.Va., the son of the late Ezra and Bertha Jane Prunty Trader.  He was a retired electrician from PPG Chemical and loved to restore old

tractors.

    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter and Wilbur Trader.

    Survivors include his wife, Eldora Gehrin Trader; three sons, Dwight (RoAnn) Trader of Waterford, Ohio, Keith Trader of Springfield, Ohio; two

    He was a truck driver, a member of FOE 4252, and VFW Post 9712.

    He was preceded in death by his father, Roy Truax and wife, Vera E. Truax.

       Clarence E. Tucker, 70, 214 West Spruce St., Byesville, died Aug. 20, 2006, at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center, Cambridge. He was born Sept. 17, 1935, at East Union, a son of the late Kenneth and Rosa Ayers Tucker.

       He was a retired laborer for the Flint Ink Company in Canton, Michigan; a Methodist by faith; a U.S. Army veteran having served with the 3rd Armored Tank Division in Germany and also served during the same time as Elvis Presley. He was an avid NASCAR fan and loved gardening and yard work.

       Surviving are his wife, Bertha Christman Tucker, whom he married Sept. 8, 1956; two brothers, Clyde R. Tucker and Carlos (Barbara) Tucker, both of Sarahsville; sister, Elsie Pride of Marietta and several nieces and nephews.

       In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond E. Tucker and Delbert L. Tucker.

       There was no visitation. Memorial services will be held Aug. 26, at 1 p.m., at Brubach-Watters Funeral Home, Summerfield, with Rev. Mark Slay officiating. Burial will follow in Calais Cemetery, with full military graveside services.

        Richard A. Tuley, 70, of Rushville, died Thursday, Aug. 10, 2006 at Rush Memorial Hospital.

        Mr. Tuley was born July 17, 1936 in Milroy. A U.S. Navy veteran, he served from 1955 to 1959. He had also been employed as a construction worker.

        Survivors include his father, John W. Tuley of Shelbyville; his mother, Dora Cleland of Rushville; three sons, Chet Allen Tuley of Hawaii and Victor Wayne Tuley and Michael Shawn Tuley, both of Connecticut; one daughter, Melissa Dawn (Mrs. Mike) Ooley of Rushville; one brother, David Allen Cleland of Greenwood; three sisters, Donna (Mrs. Ronnie) Ferguson of Muncie and Dianne (Mrs. Billy) Reeves and Betty “Suzy” Evans, both of Rushville; two grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

        Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Todd Funeral Home in Rushville with the Rev. Charles Justice officiating. Burial will follow in Rushville’s East Hill Cemetery and will include a graveside military service. Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

       Neil O. Turner, 77, 7024 Andalusia Ave., Jacksonville, Fla., formerly of Woodsfield, died Oct. 10, 2006 at the Community Hospice of Northeast Florida, Jacksonville. He was born May 24, 1929, at Woodsfield, a son of the late Richard and Grace Bates Turner.

       He was a retired field communications engineer for various railroad companies including New York Central, Penn Central and Amtrack. He was a member of the Woodsfield Church of Christ, and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He enjoyed fishing and was an avid golfer.

       Surviving are a daughter, Kathleen “Kathy” Landry of Iva, SC; son, Richard Edward “Rick” (Paula) Turner of East Nassau, NY; step-daughter, Kathy Laurenzo of Terre Haute, Ind.; three step-sons, Kenneth (Kathy) Straw of Pennelville, NY, Jerry(Coleen) Straw of Jacksonville and John Straw of Newberg, NY; sister, Jean Cline of Woodsfield; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; a special friend, Donna Knowlton of Woodsfield.

        Billy D. Turpin, 72, of Lewisville, died Saturday, March 4, 2006.

        Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, March 6, 2006, at Crestview Memorial Park under the direction of Owens & Brumley Funeral Home of Wichita Falls.

        A son of the late William and Cora (Leach) Turpin, he was born July 28, 1933, in Elk City, Okla.  An electrical engineer for most of his life, he worked for Texas Instruments.  He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Don Turpin in 2004 and Bobby Turpin in 2000.

        Survivors include his sister, Betty Cossey of Mangum, Okla; many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Toby was retired from the Olin Corp., working as a shipping supervisor, was a member of the Powhatan Community Church and an Army Air Force veteran of World War II.

In addition to his parents, Toby was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth “Audrey” Longstaff Tyler in 2003, and two sisters: Edania Zumpetta and Nadean Burek.

    Helen I. Fulmer Ulmer, 84, former resident of the Oak Grove community,

Marietta, died at Marietta Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at 3:45 p.m. Monday (Sept. 25, 2006).

    She was born March 12, 1922, in New Matamoras, a daughter of the late Harry A. and Myrtle Edwards Fulmer. She was a graduate of Marietta High School with the class of 1940 and attended Ohio University. She was selected to join the National Honor Society in her junior year. Helen was first of all a mother and a homemaker, but was also employed at Remington Rand and later at the Marietta Concrete Corporation. She also served at the Marietta YMCA Day Care Center and was a Realtor sales person for Logue and Schwartz Realtors. She was later broker and manager of Ulmer Real Estate and was later broker and owner of Colonial Real Estate Co. She had been president of the Marietta PTA Council for two years from 1961 to 1963. She attended the Church of Christ at Sixth and Washington streets and when the new Harmar Hill Church of Christ was built, she and her husband were charter members.

    On Dec. 25, 1941, she was married to Paul Ulmer, who survives with three sons, Richard Ulmer (Diane) of Green Valley, Ariz., and Raymond H. Ulmer (Judy) and Karl E. Ulmer (Gail) of Marietta; one daughter, Karen U. Brown (Steven) of New Egypt, N.J.; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

    She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Clyde Fulmer and Floyd Fulmer; and three sisters, Ruth Cham, Hazel Wagner and Claretta Sarver.

    Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Harmar Hill Church of Christ with Evangelist Steven Brown and Evangelist J.D. Conley officiating.  Interment will be in East Lawn Memorial Park. Friends may call from 2 p.m. Thursday until Friday morning at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home and for one hour prior to services at the church.         Elizabeth H. "Betty" Unger, 85, of Columbus died at 3 a.m. Tuesday, April 18, 2006, at Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.

        A homemaker, Mrs. Unger was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Columbus Antique Club and Cane Ridge Bell Choir at First Christian Church. She also was instrumental in founding Belles and Beaux Square Dance Club.

        The funeral will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Myers-Reed Dignity Memorial Chapel on 25th Street, with Pastor Paul Haugen officiating. Calling will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. until service time Friday. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.

       She was a homemaker and a member of the Main Street Church of Christ at Caldwell.

       Surviving are four daughters, Wanda (Ron) Rossiter, of Sycamore Valley, Susan (Wayne) Vincenzo, of Sarahsville, Darla (Gary) Pittman, of Woodsfield, and Sherry (Jeff) Hickenbottom, of Cambridge; four sons, Larry Van Fossen, of Sarahsville, Lloyd (Karen) Van Fossen, of Summerfield, Roger Van Fossen, of Caldwell, Tony (Mary) Van Fossen, of Lower Salem; brother Donald Berry, of Caldwell; 17 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.

       In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Kenneth Van Fossen on July 5, 1975; two son, David Wayne Van Fossen and Bert Wesley Van Fossen; three grandchildren; a great-granddaughter.

          Charlie Olen Van Nest, 68, of McGee Road, Shadyside, Ohio, died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2006 at Country Club Retirement Center, Bellaire, Ohio.

          Charlie was born Feb. 9, 1938 in Bellaire, Ohio, a son of the late Olen and Lula McCormick Van Nest.

          He was employed at the Belco Workshop in St. Clairsville, Ohio and a member of the Nazarene Church, Shadyside.

          Charlie was an avid baseball and football fan rooting for the Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Browns.

          In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a niece, Robin Steele Rich.

      Martha Jean Vannest, 76, of St. Clairsville, Ohio, died Thursday, October 26, 2006 at East Ohio Regional Hospital.  She was born at Woodsfield, Ohio, on March 15, 1930 a daughter of the late James and Mary Taylor Wilson.  Martha Jean was a homemaker and a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church at St. Clairsville.

      She is survived by her husband James Vannest; three sons: Ronald Vannest of St. Clairsville; Bruce Vannest of Bethesda and Dan Vannest of Mt. Airy, Maryland and a daughter, Christy (Martin) Sulek, of St. Clairsville; 12 grandchildren: David, Kirk, Jason, Melissa, Jennifer, Matthew, Brian, Stacie, Sean, Crystal, Johnathan and Shane; three great-grandchildren Alicia, Jerimiah and Ayden.

      The family will receive friends on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Toothman Funeral Home, St. Clairsville where services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. with Rev.        Willis D. Varner, 90, of Victory Place, Marietta, died March 21, 2006, in Marietta Memorial Hospital. He was born Feb. 2, 1916, in Beallsville, a son of the late Joseph and Hazel Riley Varner.

       He had been maintenance electrician at Union Carbide Company for 30 years. He was a member of the Harmar Hill Church of Christ and was a veteran of World War II and served in the U.S. Army Corps.

       Surviving are his wife, B. Viola Truex, whom he married July 26, 1939; three sons, William (Donna) Varner of Waterford, Terry L. Varner (fiancée, Brenda Walker) and Randall D. (Susan) Varner of Marietta; five grandchildren, Wendy (Ben) Coyle, Amanda M. (Steven) Guglielmi and Allie K. Varner of Ohio State University, all of Columbus, Ashley Varner and Adam Varner of Marietta; one great-granddaughter, Anna Rae Coyle of Columbus.

       In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Dwight Varner.

       Friends were received March 23 and 24 until the hour of the service at McClure-Schafer-Langford Funeral Home, Marietta, with W. Terry Varner officiating. Burial in East Lawn Memorial Park.

 

Vasil, James M. Vasil

    Vasil, James M., 87, Hopton Road, Beallsville, and formerly of Silver Oaks, in Kent, died January 7, 2006 at Monroe County Care Center, Woodsfield.  He was born Sept. 28, 1918, in Cleveland to Joe M. and Anna Meyer Vasil.  He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He retired as a Deputy Sheriff

and Bailiff for Portage County. He was a long time member of the FOP; Kent VFW; Kent American Legion; Dustman Deputies; Kent Safety Council; and a long time volunteer at Robinson Memorial Hospital.

    Surviving are his wife, Maxine F. (Persing), whom he married Aug. 19, 1948; son, James M. (Linda Knippenberg) Vasil, Jr., Gainsville, Florida; daughter, Sylvia L. Bowen of Woodsfield; two grandchildren, Joey Bowen, Coconut Creek, Florida, Wendi Pinkerton, Woodsfield; four great-grandchildren; brother, Joseph Vasil of Hartville.

    He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, David J. Bowen, Jr.

    Friends were received Jan.10 at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home and Crematory, Kent, where funeral services will be held January 11, at 11 a.m. with Rev. James Jones officiating. Burial in Grandview Memorial Park, Ravenna.

           Graysville - Mildred W. (Okey) Vess, 95, of Graysville and Lower Salem, died Thursday (April 6, 2006) at the Monroe County Care Center in Woodsfield.  Born May 5, 1910, in Monroe County, she was the daughter of the late Andrew S. Morris and Pearl Zelda Kinkade Morris. She was a member of the Pleasant Ridge Church of Christ near Graysville and also attended Lower Pawpaw Church of Christ.
             She was preceded in death by her first husband, Lloyd Okey, in 1972; her second husband, Orpha Vess, in 2005; one sister, Myra Anderson; six brothers, William, Earl, Edward, Isaac, and Maywood Morris, and an infant brother.
            She is survived by one sister, Ethel Sullivan of North Fort Myers, Fla., and also several nieces and nephews.
          Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today at Bauer-Turner Funeral Home, 100 S. Paul St., Woodsfield. Burial will be in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery near Graysville.

        PEORIA - George William Voland, 77, of Peoria died at 8:45 p.m. Wednesday, March 15, 2006, at Prairie View Care Center in Lewistown.

        He was born Oct. 14, 1928, in Peoria to Orville E. and Edna Buracker Voland.

        He is survived by one son, Mark (and Lynn) of Fairview; one grandson, Kyle William Voland; and one half brother, Herman Bailey of Galesburg.

        He was preceded in death by one daughter, Georganne Voland Buck; and one half brother, Harry Bailey.

        He served in the U.S. Army and was a Teamster truck driver for more than 30 years.

    Dan was a Serbian Orthodox by faith, he was a retired die setter with the former International Harvester Corporation's Shadyside plant and a United States Air Force veteran. Dan was an accomplished golfer and enjoyed playing golf with his friends.

      She was born on September 20, 1926 in Nanticoke, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Calvin and Charlotte Gibbs Walters.

      She was telephone operator and a clerk at Dotta IGA in Clarington. She was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ in Clarington and Golden Links of the church.

      In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death two brothers Ralph and Byron Walters, and a sister Romaine Ollom.

      Survivors include two brothers Rex (Jean) Walters of Powhatan Point, Ohio, John (Ouida) Walters of Slidell, Louisiana, a sister Arden (Neil) McDougal of Marietta, Ohio, several nieces and nephews, and special friends Ray and Diana Schnegg.

      Family will receive friends on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9pm at Grisell Funeral Home, 125 Clarinda Drive, Clarington, where funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11:00am with Rev. Donald Hitchcock officiating.

        Arthur Finley Ward, 64, of Columbus, Ind., died at 9:01 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17, 2006, at Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.

        Mr. Ward was previously employed at Golden Foundry. He was an F5 Gunners Mate serving in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Laffey, a guard ship for the USS Enterprise, during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

        Mr. Ward was born Dec. 11, 1941 in Bartholomew County, the son of Martin F. and Margaret Ward.*

        Survivors include his mother, of Columbus; sons, Ronald (Karen) Ward of Franklin, Ind. and Darryl Ward of Medora, Ind.; daughters, Cheryl (Don) Cox of Kentucky, Carla Ward and Tanya Ward, both of Medora; brothers, Larry Ward of Columbus and Bill Ward of Kentucky; a sister, Marilyn Dill of Bedford, Ind.; and 10 grandchildren.

        He was preceded in death by his father, a brother, Carl Ward.

        He is survived by his parents; grandparents, Greg and Carla Mitchell, Linda and Jim Mullen and Terry Warden; uncles, Matt and Michael Warden, and Bryan (Renee) Mitchell; great-grandfathers, Gene Neely and Robert Warden; and many loving and caring friends.

Wheeling; a member of the Bellaire Christian Church, and Disciples of Christ, Bellaire.  Mazie was a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and

aunt; she enjoyed watching football.

      In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon L. Warner, on June 18, 1975; one son, David Joseph Warner; and two brothers, Richard and Bruce Hollingshead.

      Surviving are three children, Verna L. Marinelli of Jacobsburg, Ohio, Jeffrey A. Warner and his wife, Patricia of Neffs, Ohio and Keith B.         William Warner, 84, of Davenport, Fla., formerly of Grantville, Pa., died Monday, February 20, 2006, in Davenport, Fla.

        He was born June 9, 1921, in Summerfield, Ohio, son of the late John F. and Genevra B. (King) Warner.

        Mr. Warner was a retired employee of the Texas-Eastern Corp. and owned and operated Warner’s Cabinet Shop in Grantville. He was a WW II U.S. Army veteran, Methodist by faith, and a member of the Masonic Fraternity.

        Surviving are his wife, Z. Grace Warner; two sons, John C. and his wife Grace Warner of Palmyra, and William R. and his wife Christine Warner of Dover, Pa.; two daughters, Anna B. and her husband John Buck of EIizabethtown, and M. Jean and her husband Bill May of Texas; a step-son, Marlin Gashaw of Davenport, Fla.; six grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.

        He was preceded in death by two wives, M. Eileen Warner and Madolyn Warner; and two sisters.

        Services beginning with a Masonic funeral service will be held Monday, February 27, 2006, at 11 a.m. in the Hoover Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc., Route 422 and Lucy Avenue, Hershey. Visitation will be Monday, Feb. 27, 2006, from 10 until 11 a.m. in the funeral home.

        Interment will be in the Shenk’s Community Cemetery.

        NORTON -- Ray Warnick, 78, went home to be with the Lord and into the loving arms of Jesus on June 2, 2006.

Ray was retired from PPG Industries with 40 years of service and was an active member of the PPG 20-Year Club and CAA, having served as president. He also was a member of the Loyal Oak VFW Post, where he served as Past Chaplain and Commander of Post. Ray enjoyed vegetable gardening, with hot peppers his specialty.

        He was preceded in death by his brothers, Thomas, Robert, Zedrick, and Walter. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Reda; daughter, Linda (Ted) Squires; grandchildren, Melanie (Dale) Collins and Jennifer (Lee) Tomes; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Caleb, Trevor, and Trent.

        The family would like to thank their neighbors for their friendship and support of Ray during these past months.

    Freda Louise Wasko, 81, of Bellaire, Ohio died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2006 at the Belmont Community Hospital in Bellaire, Ohio.  She was born July 28, 1925 in Woodsfield, Ohio a daughter of the late Jacob A. and Regina McMahon Craig.  Freda was a homemaker and a member of the St. John Catholic Church in

Bellaire, Ohio and the Catholic Women's Club.

    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jacob Wasko Jr., on June 21, 2005 and her brother, Thomas Russell Coen.

    Surviving are three children, Debra Jean (Jim) Marr of Bellaire, Ohio; James J. Wasko of San Diego, Calif.; and Joseph A. Wasko (Rae Miller) of Bellaire. Also, six grandchildren: Angela Wasko (Kelly Price) of Bridgeport, Ohio; Christopher Wasko of Bellaire; Jimmy (Shawn) Marr of Georgia; Jessica (Chuck) Burney, Billy McGarry and Jamie McGarry all of Glenco, Ohio; and four great-grandchildren: Isaiah Price, Kayla Marr, Deodre and Deasia Burney.

        Charles E. Waterman Sr., 50, of Marietta passed away Feb. 11, 2006, while on the road with his wife in Lexington, Ky.

        He was born Oct. 22, 1955, at Zanesville, Ohio.  He was raised in the Marietta area and attended Marietta City Schools.  He also served in the U.S. army.  He was employed at Marietta Transfer Co.  He had driven truck for J.G. Clark out of Edison, Ohio, with his stepfather, Matt Dillon.  He had also worked for William Jones Trucking Co. out of New Matamoras, and Edwards Trucking and Hartley Trucking, both of Ravenswood, W. Va.

        He was a member of Free and Accepted Masons of Ohio, and Master Mason at Oliver Lodge 447 at Caledonia, Ohio.

        He is survived by his wife, Vicki Jo (Warren) Waterman, whom he married Aug. 10, 1999; his children, Angela Day of Marietta, Charles Jr. "Charlie" of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Jimmy and Brittany, both of Marietta; grandchildren, Brian Day, Chelsea Drawdy and Zachary and Katelynne Waterman, all of Marietta; stepchildren, Mandy, Shannon and Tucker Lee; stepgrandchildren, Quinton, Khalil, Keanan and Sycar; his mother, Margaret M. (Waterman) Dillon of Marietta; his brother, Robert V. Waterman, and his ex-wife, Joyce Elaine Swaney Waterman, of Marietta; nieces, Mary Ann Sheridan and Bobbi Jo Waterman; his father, William R. Waterman, and stepmother, Sue, of Marion, Ohio; stepbrother, William R. Waterman Jr. (Deborah) of Waldo, Ohio; stepsisters, Brenda Sue (William) Jaynes of Findlay, Ohio, and Linda Le (Hugh) Clinger of Atlanta, Ga.

        No visitation or services were held.  The body was cremated.

        Also missed by numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

       Tammy Watson, 46, 107 North Main St., Summerfield, formerly of Springfield, died Feb. 26, 2006, in Dayton. She was born Aug. 11, 1959 at Dayton, a daughter of Kathleen Jones Campbell.

       She was a receptionist at Millers Collision and Repair in Fairborn; was a co-owner of the former Watson’s General Store, Summerfield; a former sales person. She enjoyed her family, her favorite little dog, Boone, antiquing, music and her nieces and nephews sporting events.

       Surviving in addition to her mother are her husband, Reed Wesley Watson, whom she married Dec. 19, 1994; son Shawn H. Cross of Troy; step-son, Wesley T. Watson of Phillipi, W.Va.; two sisters, identical twins, Terry (Jeff) Miller of Beavercreek, Patty Campbell of Dayton; two brothers, Dennis “Duck” (Elaine) Campbell of Hazard, Kentucky and Virgil (Sandy) Campbell of Dayton; father-in-law and mother-in-law Don and Linda Reed Watson of Springfield; several nieces and nephews.

       Friends were received March 2 at Brubach-Watters Funeral Home, Summerfield where funeral services were held March 3 with Pastors Nate Gibbons and Marvin Shepard officiating. Burial followed in Eastern Cemetery, Summerfield.

    Doris A. (Gray) Wayts, 70, of Painesville Twp., Painesville, Ohio, died July 24, 2006 at the Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, Ohio. She was a Lake Co. resident since 1961, prior to that she resided in Powhatan Point, Ohio.

    She was born Aug. 26, 1935 in Powhatan Point, Ohio; a member of the Lighthouse Community Church, Mentor, Ohio and retired as a cook from the Homestead Nursing Home.In addition to her father, Raymond Gray, she was preceded in death by two sons, Terry and Walter.

       Donald Eugene Wear, 71, died Sunday in Vallejo after a long illness. Born in Cortland, Neb., Mr. Wear was a resident of American Canyon.  He was a typesetter for the Times-Herald for 30 years, then worked at the Examiner and the Chronicle, retiring in 1999.  Mr. Wear was a NASCAR fan. He flew radio-controlled aircraft, and enjoyed attending his grand and great-grandchildren’s sporting events and enjoyed helping others.

       Survivors include his wife Dorothy L. Wear of Vallejo; daughters, Sheryl (Joe) Stinson of Doylestown, PA., Kim (Rick) Brumm of Vacaville, and Lynne (Don) Ball and Terry (John) Sanders, both of Vallejo.; brothers, Ron Wear of Green Valley, and Vern and Larry Wear, both of Vallejo; six grandchildren’ and seven great-grandchildren.

       A gathering of family and friends will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Skyview Memorial Lawn, Vallejo. Inurnment will be at Skyview Memorial Lawn.

STEUBENVILLE - Michael Douglas Weaver, 54, of Steubenville, died Wednesday (Oct. 4, 2006) at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

He was born Feb. 2, 1952, in Marietta to Douglas E. and Dorothy L. FiskWeaver. He was a graduate of Marietta High School and had attended

Washington Technical College. He was a U.S. Army veteran of Vietnam. He was an assistant manager at Wal-Mart in Steubenville, having worked at other locations, including Marietta. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans.

He is survived by his parents of Jacksonville, Fla.; two children, Zacharyand Emile Weaver of Clarington; a stepson, Jeffrey Beaver of Marietta and their mother, Sandy Potts (Troy) of Clarington; two brothers, Craig A. Weaver (Kathy) and Brian L. Weaver, all of Jacksonville, Fla.; two sisters, Kimberly Fulton (Mark) of Yardley, Pa., and Vicki L. Simpkin of Jacksonville, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the Marietta Chapelof Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home, with Pastor James P. Rushing Jr.officiating. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.        Dennis J. Weber, 84, 34045 SR 78, Lewisville, died Dec.3, 2006 at 6:15 at his home. He was born Feb. 17, 1922 near Lewisville, a son of the late John Henry and Jennie Pearl Wihler Weber.

       He attended the former Star School; the Lewisville Grade School and was a 1941 graduate of Lewisville High school. He was a retired laborer with 22 years of service at Ormet Corporation, Hannibal; he was a former oil well driller and former employee of the Texas Eastern Transmission Corporation. A U.S. Army veteran of WWII, he served in the infantry under the 10th Armored Division of General Patton. He was a 59 year member of the Buchanan Presbyterian Church near Lewisville, and was a 53 year member of the Huffman and Graysville Granges. His main interests were his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed horse shoe pitching, trout fishing, hunting and gardening.

       Surviving are his wife, Ruth Jeanette Ridgeway Weber, whom he married July 14, 1944; a daughter, Brenda (William) Rice of Marietta; a son, Kevin Dennis (Milinda) Weber of Macksburg; four sisters, Delores Strickling of Grove City, Vera (William) VanMeter of Brimfield, Eleanor Farcas of Canton and Eileen (David) Cline of Lewisville; four grandchildren, Stacey Lee, Kimberly Weber, Jessica Weber and Zachary Mick; three great-grandchildren, Jared Lee, Breanna Lee and Carly Anderson; and a step-granddaughter, Allison Riggs.

       In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Delvin Edward Weber on July 30, 2000; two sisters, Thelma Anderson and Melba Tuel; five brothers, Roy, Wilbur, Lloyd, Eugene and Francis Weber.

       Friends will be received at Watters Funeral Home, Woodsfield, on Dec. 6, where funeral services will be held Dec. 7, at 1 p.m., with Rev. Richard Wilson and Rev. Susan Lehosky officiating. Burial will follow in Buchanan Cemetery, near Lewisville, with full military services.

       Ella Mae Weber, 81, Phoenix, AZ., died Oct. 9, 2006. She was born March 13, 1925, the eighth and youngest child of Daniel and Emma Widmer Emch.      

       She graduated from high school in Wadsworth and worked as a template maker at Goodyear Aircraft in Akron during WW II. After the war she worked as a secretary at the Ohio Boxboard Company in Rittman until her marriage to Merle C. Weber on Aug. 8, 1946.

       She was very active in the Women’s Missionary Group at the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Wadsworth until she and her husband moved to Arizona in 1980. She was part of the women’s group at Morningside Presbyterian Church in Phoenix until she became disabled due to cancer.

       She loved music and directed the Junior Choir at her church in Ohio. She sang with the choir at Morningside Presbyterian Church and with the Los Olivos Singers for many years. She also enjoyed being part of the creative writing and Reminisce groups at the Los Olivos Senior Center.

       Surviving are her husband, Merle; son, Benjamin; four daughters, Mary (George) Saylor, Ruth (Ron) Elwardt, Faye (Peter) Flynn, Fran (Jim Perry) Sapp; five grandchildren, Megan (Erick) Holm, Becca Elwardt, Sarah and Mary Flynn and Chase Sapp.

       She was preceded in death by a daughter, Lora Lee; three sisters; and four brothers.

       A memorial service at Morningside Presbyterian Church in Phoenix will be announced at a later date.

       Roger C. Weber, 79, died Aug. 10, 2006, at Hospice Care Center after a seven month illness. He was born July 28, 1927, in Lewisville, a son of the late C. Solomon and Ora Crum Weber.

       He resided in the Wadsworth area since 1949. He was an Army Air Corps veteran serving in World War II; a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Moose Lodge 2070, F.O.E. 2117, V.F.W. Post 1089, American Legion Post 170, Lodge 385 F&AM and collected watches. He was a salesman in auto advertising at the Akron Beacon Journal for 15 years and was previously an agent with Nationwide Insurance.

       Surviving are a daughter, Barbara Donat of Germany; three step-daughters, Cheryl (Jim) Smith of Akron, Joanne (Jim) Varney of Wadsworth, Patricia (Dennis) Reinhold of Las Vegas; four granddaughters; one great-granddaughter; daughter-in-law, Vickie of Ma.; and three brothers, Ralph of Rittman, Merle of Phoenix, Az. and Edsel of Lakeland, FL.

       He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth; son, Robert; sister, Grace DeVoe; and two brothers, Frank and Alton.

       Friends were received Aug. 13 at Hilliard-Mullaney-Rospert Funeral Home, Wadsworth, where prayer service was held in the evening. Funeral services were held Aug 14 at the funeral home, with Deacon Roger N. Klaas officiating. Burial in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.

         RINARD MILLS - Johnny E. Weckbacher, 74, of 33762 State Route 537, Rinard Mills (Marr community), died Saturday (April 29, 2006) at Selby General Hospital, Marietta.  He was born at Sycamore Valley, Ohio, on Feb. 9, 1932, a son of the late   John C. and Mary Kincade Weckbacher. He was a retired laborer for Union Carbide, Marietta, with 35 years of service. He attended the Graysville United Methodist Church, Graysville, and he was a member of the Oil/Chemical/Atomic Workers Union, a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean War. He was an honorary member of the Monroe County Agricultural Society after serving more than 25 years as a fair board member, 10 of which he served as president. He was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association and a member of the Southeastern Ohio Quarter Horse Association.

          He enjoyed farming, flowering, camping, the outdoors, and the Monroe  County Fair. After many years of prayer, Johnny accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior on April 20, 2006, with the assistance of Pastor Wayne Teafatiller.

         In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Martin (Delores) Weckbacher; one sister, Arlene "Sis" (Stanley) Cline;  one niece, Trina Jo Cline; and one stepgrandson, Steven Stack.

         Surviving are his wife, Ruth Ann Gardner Weckbacher, whom he married  Aug. 20, 1955; two daughters, Tina (Terrill) Wickham of Rinard Mills,  and Dianna (Pat) Hulsey of New Matamoras; three sons, Johnny Bruce  Weckbacher of Rinard Mills, Douglas Weckbacher of Woodsfield, and Rodney  (Kim) Weckbacher of Lower Salem; one brother, Garald (Sylvia) Weckbacher  of Rinard Mills; three grandchildren, Daniel Wickham, Wade Weckbacher,  and Page Weckbacher; several nieces and nephews; and his dog, Bear.

    He was born near Marr, Ohio, on June 27, 1942, a son of the late Martin B. and Delores Bigley Weckbacher.

    He was a self-employed farmer and timber worker. He was an active member of the Bethel Community Center at Marr, Ohio.

    Surviving are his wife, Ramona Gardner Weckbacher, whom he married on Jan. 31, 1964; one daughter, Amy Weckbacher of the home; three sons, Kevin Weckbacher and his fiancée, April Thayer of Marietta, Steve (Melanie) Weckbacher of Lewisville, and Ryan Weckbacher of the home and his fiancée, Sarah Ring; former daughter-in-law, Linda Weckbacher of Sycamore Valley, Ohio; one sister, Linda (Carl) Winland of Graysville, Ohio; and four grandchildren, Clay, Jason, Ashley, and Karli Weckbacher.

    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Jeffrey Lynn Weckbacher.

Mark D. Weckbacher, 75, of 300 Starlite Drive, Marietta, went to be with the Heavenly Father at 2:50 p.m. Saturday (Oct. 28, 2006) at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.  He was born April 16, 1931, at Pleasant Ridge, Ohio, to Roscoe and DaiseyAnderson Weckbacher. Mark graduated from Graysville High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on Feb. 15, 1952, and served in Korea for one year, six months. He was a longtime resident of Bloomfield and worked at Ormet Corp. as an inspector and, later, as a lab technician, until he retired in 1996.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing and time with his family and grandchildren. He was a member of Bloomfield United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Leona "Jane" Schafer Weckbacher, whom he married on Aug. 3, 1954, in Indiana; four daughters, Lorraine Howell (Don) of Wingett Run, Ohio, Tina VanWey (Dan) of Newport, Ohio, Cheryl Handschumaker (Tommy) of Marietta and Beth Marshall (Roy) of Bloomfield, Ohio; two sons, Brent Weckbacher (Kathy) of Bloomfield, Ohio, and Todd Weckbacher (Kristy) of Marietta; nine grandchildren, Marc and Kurtus Marshall, Aaron and Adam Howell, Ross Weckbacher, Hillary Handschumaker, Faith and Madison Weckbacher, and Joel VanWey; three brothers, Dean Weckbacher (Kathy) of Sycamore Valley, Ohio, Maynard Weckbacher of Marietta, and Wilbert Weckbacher (Dorothy) of Lowell, Ohio; one sister, Laura Ayers (Melvin) of Sycamore Valley, Ohio; father-in-law, Delbert Schafer of Bloomfield; and sister and brother-in-law, Guy and Ruth Scott of Canton, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Randy and Scotty Weckbacher; brother, Alton Weckbacher; and mother-in-law, Mildred L. Schafer.

Weddle, Alvis "Vic" Weddle Sr.

    Alvis "Vic" Weddle Sr., 78, of the Oak Grove area passed away at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday (Oct. 4, 2006).  Alvis was born at Woodsfield, Ohio, to William Arthur and Dorcas Febus Weddle on July 8, 1928. He was a graduate of Antioch High School and had been employed by River Gas Company until 1967 when he retired to become afull time auctioneer. For many years, Alvis sold livestock at all the area fairs for the youth of Washington County. He retired from the auction business in 2000 due to poor health, but continued to work on his farm and his pond, which was his pride and joy. He was a member of many civic organizations and like to tell stories and visit with friends.

    Alvis is survived by four daughters, Vicki (Doug) Ayers, Terri Long and Toni Weaver of Marietta, and Verna Ball of Lowell; and one son, Alvis Weddle Jr. of Waverly, W.Va. He is also survived by nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four brothers, Woodrow, Paul, David, and Ray; and four sisters, Jane Kinney, Eleanor Day, Mary Hines, and Beryl Christman.

    He was preceded in death by his wife of over 50 years, the former Ethel Irene Hall; his parents; one sister; four brothers; one infant brother; and two grandchildren.

    Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Allen Weaver officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Park.         Weightman, Michael Aaron 67, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away Sunday, September 10, 2006, at Columbia Healthcare Center.

        Michael was employed with Western Electric/AT&T /Lucent Technologies. He retired in 1995. Michael was a member of the VFW Post #1114 and also the Order of Owls. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran. He enjoyed fishing and was an animal lover, he especially loved his dogs and cats.

       Troy Wells, 19, Alledonia, died June 10, 2006, near Centerville. He was born Dec. 17, 1986, in Wheeling, a son of Steve and Marcia Stubbs Wells.

       He was a member of the Armstrongs Mills United Methodist Church and the Ohio and USA Water Ski Association.

       She was a homemaker and a member of the Batesville Church of Christ, near Sarahsville. She was also a member of the Noble County Stepping Stones for Ohio Valley University, Parkersburg, W.Va.

       Surviving are a daughter, Donna (Ron) Moore of Caldwell; son, Laverne (Cheryl) Wentworth of Caldwell; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

       There was no visitation. Graveside services were held May 31 at Batesville Cemetery near Summerfield, with Roger Rush officiating.

       He attended Mount Carmel Church of God in Mount Carmel, PA. He was self-employed.

       Surviving in addition to his parents, are his maternal grandmother, Norma Wilson, Woodsfield; daughter, Aubrey Weyrick, at home; son, Tristine Weyrick, at home; sister, Cathy (Bardy) Anderson, Alleppo, PA; brother, Terry Weyrick, Cameron; several aunts, uncles, cousin and friends.

       He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Anna Mae and Eugene Weyrick; maternal grandfather, Elmer Wilson, Sr.

       There was no visitation.

       The family had private graveside service at their home in Cameron, WV, on March 11, with Vernon Burke officiating.

        Benyamin Yosef White, 25, of Bloomington passed away at his residence on Nov. 29th, 2006. He was born on Oct. 22nd, 1981, in Bloomington, the son of Robert L. White & Cheryl Ruth Green.

        Benyamin was a 2000 graduate of Bloomington High School South and had worked for Insight Communications as a sales representative.

        He is survived by his mother & stepfather, Cheryl Ruth Green & William D. Perry of Bloomington, his father & stepmother, Robert L. & Oxana White of Tampa, Florida, two half-sisters, his maternal grandparents, James L. & Margaret Green of Bloomington and his paternal grandmother, Betty White of Maryland. His paternal grandfather, William White, preceded him in death.

        A memorial service followed by a receiving of friends will take place from 1-4 p.m. on Monday at Allen Funeral Home.

        AUSTINBURG -- Rosetta White, age 56, a long time Austinburg, Ohio, resident, passed away Monday, February 27, 2006, at the Cleveland Clinic after a courageous battle.

        Rosetta was born December 7, 1949, in Cleveland and was raised in Rock Creek by her late parents, Alvin and Faye Hunley, with her sisters, Donna Wood and Cindy Heath, both of Jefferson.

        She married the love of her life, Lynn White of Rock Creek, on April 8, 1970.  Their 35 years of marriage blessed them with two daughters, Lisa (Matthew) Deering of Austinburg, and Julie (Crispin) Szitas of Jefferson.  She is the beloved and cherished grandmother of Emily Rose, Collin Matthew and Kyle Joseph.

        Rosetta loved and supported her family and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.  She loved being outside,  playing the slots with her husband, and cruising in their 1967 Chevelle.  She enjoyed reading and spoiling her little dog, "Yoda".  She will be sadly missed by her family.

        She worked 20 years for Springteam in Austinburg as a quality control inspector.

        Funeral Services will be 11 a.m., Friday, March 3, 2006, at PAINE-GUERRIERO  FUNERAL  HOME, 3119 West Water Street, Rock Creek.  Family and friends are invited to calling hours from 5 to 8 p.m. today, Thursday, March 2, 2006, at the Funeral Home.

       Judith Diane Wilcox, 59, Jerusalem, died March 3, 2006 at Barnesville Hospital. She was born July 28, 1946 in Akron, a daughter of Margaret (Zuravel) Epling-Kent and the late Gerland Epling.

       She was formerly of Randolph, Ohio, and lived four years in Jerusalem. She was co-owner and operator of Wilcox General Store in Woodsfield; formerly operated Wagon Wheel Antiques in Randolph, Spinning Wheel Antiques in Ravenna and Main Street Furniture in Ravenna and was executive secretary at Ohio Edison in Akron.

       Surviving in addition to her mother, are her husband, Larry Wilcox; two daughters, Tammy (Scott) Puleo, of Garrettsville, Heidi (Kenneth) Scherick, Woodsfield; son, Terry (Marci) Burger, Atlanta, Georgia; sister, Sue Epling of Florida; two brothers, John Epling of Deerfield, Gilbert Epling of West Virginia; two grandchildren.

American Legion Auxiliary Unit 28; life member of the former VFW  Auxiliary; member of National Letter Carriers Auxiliary of Proctor; a life member of the Grandview Station 30 Ambulance Squad; and a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Steelton.
          In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arch “Ike” Wiley; brother, Earl; three sisters, Lovie Huff, Amanda Vita and Tillie Stout; and a half brother, Albert Yoho.

    He was born October 29, 1947, in Lookout, WV, the son of Virginia Sweet Workman of Ansted and the late Reaford Workman.

    He was a retired employee of Wal-Mart in New Martinsville, WV and a Protestant by faith.

    In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a son, William Parris, and a brother, Vernon Workman. Survivors include his wife, Marta Beegle Workman, his mother, three daughters, Miriam Petroze of Victorville, California, Stephanie Workman and Sheryl Workman, both of Virginia, a step-daughter, Shanelle Gauding of Sardis, a sister, Linda Hughes, of Asheboro, North Carolina, and eleven grandchildren.

He was a retired employee of Ohio Ferro Alloy, an Army World Ware II veteran, and a member of the Bellaire Elks Club.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Betty Adell Kinemond Yock in 1987, four brothers, Joseph, William, Anthony and Albert Yock, one sister, Mary Kovachic.

    NEW MATAMORAS - Harvey Thomas Yonally, 94, of New Matamoras died Wednesday (July 12, 2006) after a long illness.

    He was a husband, father, and a Mason.

    He was born May 1, 1912, in Bloomfield, Ohio, to Homer and Lethia Mendenhall Yonally. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Fay; his four brothers, Jesse, Alex, John, and Charles; and three sisters, Hazel, Thelma, and Paulina.

    He is survived by his wife, Lottie, and two daughters, Patricia Myers of Taylor, Mich., and Judith Dugger of New Matamoras; four grandchildren, Mitchell Reno, Audrey Echstein, Michael Myers, and Lynn Ponpandoff; and three great-grandchildren, Brian Queen, Jordan Queen, and Jillian Reno.

    He was a life member of Golden Ark Lodge No. 595 F&AM in Michigan.

    Upon his retirement from BASF Corp. of Detroit, Mich., he returned to southeast Ohio and farmed for several years. His greatest love besides his family was hunting and fishing. He will truly be missed by family and friends.

She was born May 23, 1947, in New Martinsville, the daughter of the late Leroy (Buzz) and Eleanor Fry Hyer.  She was a graduate of River High School in 1965; a former employee of C&P Telephone Company and First National Bank, New Martinsville and a Methodist by faith.

       Surviving are her husband of 36 years, Russell H. Zesiger; son, Thomas (Melissa) Russell Zesiger of Beavercreek; step-daughter, Makala Chance at home; sister, Rose Hyer of Hannibal; two grandchildren, Zachary Thomas and Catherine Elizabeth of Beavercreek.

       Surviving are a son, Russell H. (Rita) Zesiger II of Clarington; brother, Wayne Cook Zesiger; two grandchildren, Thomas Russell and MaKayla Chance.

       He was preceded in death by his wife, Blanche Irene Smith Zesiger; son, Kenneth Nile.

       FARMLAND - Norman G. Vincent, age 70, of S. Main St., died on Monday May 29, 2006 at the home of his daughters. He was born in Lafayette, IN. on June 27, 1935 to Leslie and Freda (Scott) Vincent. He married Marilyn L. Beuoy on March 30, 1956, she survives.

       He was a Muncie Central Graduate in 1952, and after school, Mr. Vincent joined the US Navy and was an honorable Veteran for four years.

       Mr. Vincent was employed at Moss Electric for 21 years, and then Local IBEW 855 for 30 years, before retiring.

       Memberships include Local IBEW 855, Farmland American Legion Post #353, Farmland Christian Church, and was a former Volunteer Fireman at Parker City.

          He is survived by his Wife of 50 years, Marilyn L. Vincent, Son, Michael S. Vincent both of Farmland, Three daughters, Teri L. Lawhorn of Farmland, Tricia A. Daugherty (Husband-Dan) of Anderson, and Toni J. Mangas (Husband-David) of Farmland. Grandchildren, Courtney Burgess (Fiance-Brock Sutliff), Kelby Burgess (Fiance-Tara Lucy), Brandon Lawhorn, Danielle Lawhorn, Matt Mangas (Wife-Amanda), Alicia Mangas, Kara Hadley, and Rachel Skinner. Mother-in-law, Lovetta Beuoy of Indianapolis, Brother-in-laws, Robert Beuoy (Wife-Shirley) of Indianapolis, John Beuoy (Wife-Jeanne) of Indianapolis, and Jay Beuoy (Wife-Judy) of Greenwood.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Brother, Ronald Vincent, and Father-in-law, J.E. Beuoy.

       Visitation will be Thursday 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the M.J.S. Mortuaries - Farmland Chapel.

       Funeral Services will be held at the Farmland Christian Church at 2:00 p.m., Friday. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Smith, Miles Gordon Smith

        SMITH, Miles Gordon, age 68, passed away Saturday, May 27, 2006 at Southern Tennessee Medical Center in Winchester after a brief illness.

        Mr. Smith was a Navy Veteran and was retired from the U.S. Postal Service. He was well known throughout Franklin and surrounding counties as a land surveyor. Mr. Smith was very active in the Winchester Masonic Lodge 158, Winchester Order of the Eastern Star 196, Blue Lodge Scottish Rite and the Shriners. He was one of the original founders of the Tims Ford Bass Club. Mr. Smith has worked with John Smith Realty and Auction Company since 1980.

        Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Glendal Smith of Estill Springs; two daughters, Debi (J.T.) Thompson of Tullahoma and Kathy Sanders of Estill Springs; three sons, Scottie (Joy) Smith and Jimmy Griffith, all of Estill Springs and Patrick (Shannon) Smith of Tullahoma; one brother, Louis Goodman of Knoxville, Ill.; and two sisters, Peggy Williams of Huntland and Carol Geesley of Huntington; 14 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

        Funeral services were conducted Monday, May 29, 2006 at 2 p.m. at the Estill Springs Nazarene Church with Winchester OES 196. Concluding services followed in the Franklin Memorial Gardens with the Winchester Masonic Lodge 158 and full military honors. Pallbearers were: Kurt Johnson, Thomas Orr, Frank Barnes, Mark Matlock, Malcolm Partin and Eugene Judge. Grant Funeral Services in charge of arrangements, 649-3585.

        ASHTABULA - - Richard H. Timms, age 66, of Jefferson Avenue, Ashtabula, Ohio, died Sunday, June 4, 2006, at his home after a short illness.

        He was born March 30, 1940, in Dorset, Ohio, the son of Howard R. and Lillian (Cocker) Timms. He was a 1959 graduate of Ashtabula High School and attended Clarion University of Pennsylvania, majoring in Business Management and Accounting.

        He managed Neal Shoe Stores in Ohio and Pennsylvania. In 1995, he started working with the Buckeye State Credit Union, in Ashtabula, as a Branch Supervisor.

        He was a member of The First Church of God in Ashtabula. He was the past president of Clarion Mall Merchants Association and was on the Clarion County Drug and Alcohol Council from 1980 to 1990.

        He enjoyed gardening; traveling, especially to Puerto Rico; and his love for his family and grandchildren.

        Surviving him are his daughter, Renate Timms of Ashtabula; a son, Kenneth Jonas of Swea City, Iowa; four grandchildren, Logan Richard Jonas, Taylor Elizabeth Lopez, Christopher Brigham Jonas and Isabella Rose Lopez; and a sister, Thelma Sespico.

        He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lois Timms, in 1982; and by two sisters, June Case and Lovine Taggart.

        Calling Hours will be Wednesday, June 7, 2006, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Ashtabula Home of FLEMING & BILLMAN FUNERAL DIRECTORS, INC., 526 West Prospect Road, Ashtabula, with a Prayer Service at 7:30 p.m. with Pastor Hal Morgan, of The First Church of God, officiating. Burial will be held at a later date at Ridgeview Cemetery.

Marie A. Arnold Weber, 93

        ZANESVILLE - Marie A. Arnold Weber, 93, of Zanesville, died at 12:10 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, 2006, at Genesis-Good Samaritan Campus, after a brief illness.

        She was born Thursday, July 25, 1912, in Zanesville,* the daughter of John and Angie Davis Arnold. She married Raymond E. Weber on Saturday, Feb. 11, 1933,* who died Oct. 20, 1991, and was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church. Marie was a clerk at Eckert Drug Store for 18 years and was a member of the Good Samaritan Charity Circle.

        Marie is survived by two sons, Kenneth R. (Paulette) Weber of Zanesville and Richard L. (Brenda) Weber of Spring Valley; six grandchildren, Andy, Joe and Ben Weber, Cindy Lewis and Steve (Kristy) Weber and Todd Weber; and five great-grandchildren.

        In addition to her parents and husband, Marie was preceded in death by a sister, Rosemary Larson; a brother, Raymond "Bud" Arnold; and a half brother, Clarence Arnold.

        Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 19, at The Hillis & Hardwick Funeral Home, 935 Forest Ave., where a Christian vigil service will be held at 3:30 p.m.

       Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 20, 2006, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, with Father Leo L. Connolly as celebrant. Burial will be in Mount Olive Cemetery.

Wilson, Gloria Wilson

        Gloria J. Wilson, 82, formerly of Martins Ferry, Ohio, died Thursday, Feb. 2, 2006 at East Ohio Regional Hospital, Martins Ferry. She was born Sept. 24, 1923 in Martins Ferry a daughter of the late Lloyd B. and Elsie R. (Geis) Wilson.

She retired from the Corporate Office of Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel, Wheeling, W.Va. and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Martins Ferry.

        In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her sisters Grace Wilson and Kathleen DuJardin.

        Surviving are a nephew Richard (Tammy) DuJardin of Colerain, Ohio and several great and great-great nieces and nephews.

        Friends will be received Friday, 6 to 8 p.m., and Saturday, Feb. 4, 2006 from 9 a.m. until time of services at 10 a.m., with Rev. Dr. Bill N. Lawrence officiating at the Heslop Funeral Home, Walnut at Fifth, Martins Ferry, Ohio. Burial follows in Riverview Cemetery, Martins Ferry, Ohio.

        Deacons of the First Presbyterian Church will hold services Friday at 7 p.m., in the funeral home.
