Lacava, Martha E. Lacava nee Geokler

Grisell Funeral Home, Sardis, Ohio, dated February 18, 2009

LaCava, Martha E., 89, of Russell Avenue, New Martinsville, WV, formerly of Sardis, Ohio, died Tuesday, February 17, 2009 at the New Martinsville Health Care Center. She was born November 20, 1919 in Sardis, the daughter of the late George and Edna Straub Geokler.

She was a lifetime Auxiliary member of VFW Post #9930, Duffy, Ohio and American Legion Post #760, Hannibal, Ohio; and attended the Apostolic Christian Church in Sardis.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert W. LaCava; and two brothers, John and Phillip Geokler.

Survivors include a daughter, Linda (Dallas) Bolen and a sister, Clara Stalder, both of Sardis; four grandchildren, Rick (Winnie) Bolen, Shelly (Tim) Vincent, Derrick (Val) Bolen, and Darren (Milsah) Bolen; 6 great grandchildren, Tiffany Ferguson, Geoffrey Thompson, Nicki Tate, Brock Bolen, Dallas and Devon Bolen; 5 great great grand-children, Kyla and Kara Ferguson, Phoenix and Pryce Tate, and Ethan Thompson; and extended family members Rose and Ray McGlumphy.

Family will receive friends on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9pm at Grisell Funeral Home, 37234 Mound Street, Sardis, where funeral services will be held on Friday at 2:00pm with ministers of the church officiating.
Interment in Apostolic Church Cemetery, Sardis.

 

Lang, John Andrew Lang

     PALM DESERT, Calif. - John Andrew Lang, 81, of Palm Desert, Calif., passed away Monday, July 6, 2009, in Palm Desert, Calif., of gastric cancer.

     He was born June 13, 1928, to Andrew and Margaret Lang in Twin Falls. He married Martha Johnson on Aug. 7, 1950, in Twin Falls. He was a tax preparer for H&R Block for many years. He was a devoted Catholic and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Palm Desert.

     He served in the U.S. Army from May 24, 1946, to April 30, 1980, as a colonel. He enlisted in the Army directly out of high school in 1946 in the Engineers; received the World War II Victory Medal; 1955 attended Officer Candidate School (OCS) and was commissioned a second lieutenant in the Engineers; later Branch transferred to Armor; two tours in Vietnam 1968 to 1969 as the district senior adviser at La Hai District in Tuy Hoa Province; 1971 to 1972 as senior adviser to a district in the jungles of Bindin Province; tour in Korea 1975 to 1978; retired as a colonel in 1980; many awards and decorations that include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star with "V" Device for Valor, Purple Heart and Combat Infantryman's Badge. He attended Twin Falls High School in Twin Falls, received a BA at the University of Nebraska in Omaha and an MBA at Golden Gate University in California.

     He is survived by his wife, Martha Lang of Palm Desert, Calif.; daughters, Janet Soussan of Derwood, Md., and Sherri O'Connor of Elk Grove, Calif.; sons, Scott Lang of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Bruce Lang of Claremont, Calif.; sisters, Mari Ybarguen of Fallbrook, Calif., Frances Werth of Folsom, Calif., Agnes Zeman of Klamath Falls, Ore., and Stella Powlus of Twin Falls; and eight grandchildren.

     Interment will be at 12:45 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20, at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va. (Washington, D.C.).  Forest Lawn Mortuary in Cathedral City, Calif., is in charge of arrangements.

 

Laps, Eugene "Gene" L. Laps

Laps, Eugene "Gene" L., age 77, of Canton passed away Friday morning [April 10, 2009] at Aultman Hospital. He was born on June 29, 1931 in Massillon to the late Frank and Beulah (Harmon) Laps. Gene was a 1951 graduate of Washington High School. He was a United States Air Force Veteran serving during the Korean Conflict. Gene retired from the Timken Company in November 1992 following 26 years of service as a aircraft mechanic. He was the chief of maintenance for the Timken Flight Department at the Akron Canton Airport. He had attended St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. Gene enjoyed cars, airplanes and was a devoted family man.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret (Woutat) Laps with whom he celebrated 56 years of marriage on November 8, 2008; sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas G. (Robbi) Laps of Waite Hill, OH, Larry D. (Tela) Laps of Canton, Todd A. (Shelly) Laps of Massillon; daughter and son-in-law, Linda L. (Robert) Dehnke of Massillon; brothers, Frank, Donald and David Laps all of Massillon; sisters, Eileen Zeller and Ruth Ann Turskey both of Massillon and Genny Hammon of Circleville, OH; ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Ralph Laps. Funeral services celebrating Gene's life will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Arnold – Lynch Funeral Home with Fr. William Kraynak officiating. Calling hours will be Monday from 6–8 p.m. Interment will follow the services at Calvary Cemetery. Lattea, Clifford L. Lattea

Clifford L. Lattea

        Age 71, of Leading Creek Rd., Glenville, departed this life Friday morning, April 10, 2009, following an unexpected illness.

        He was born June 10, 1937, in Gilmer County, a son of the late Curtis and Ida Clevenger Lattea.

        Mr. Lattea was retired from the WV Dept of Natural Resources Cedar Creek State Park, and he loved fishing.

        Surviving are three daughters:  Kathy Darlene Carr and husband Rolen; Diana Carr and husband Rodney; and Ann Lattea, all of Glenville. One sister and two brothers survive: Mary Jo Carr of NC; Russell and Lewis Lattea, both of Glenville.  

        He has eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren surviving.

        Mr. Lattea was preceded in death by 2 sisters: Martha Peggs and Virgie Luzader.

        Memorial services were held April 14 at the Ellyson Mortuary, Inc. Rev. Kenny Fisher officiated.

 

Lattea, Naomi Jean Lattea, nee Davisson

        ST. MARYS - One person was killed and two injured in a Monday evening accident on West Virginia 2 near Belmont, the Pleasants County Sheriff's Department reported.

        According to the sheriff's report, a 2000 Buick driven by Robert Lattea, 77, Belmont, was struck by a 1992 Oldsmobile driven by Irene McVay, 55, also of Belmont.

        Lattea's wife, Naomi, was killed in the accident.

        Preliminary reports indicate the McVay vehicle was traveling north and struck the Lattea's vehicle, which was traveling south. Lattea was transported to Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital, where he was reported in good condition.

        McVay was transported to Charleston Area Medical Center, General Division, with multiple injuries where she was in the intensive care unit in stable condition, according to a hospital spokeswoman. The accident remains under investigation by the sheriff's department.

        Naomi Jean Davisson Lattea, 74, of Belmont, W.Va., in an instant, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, Aug. 10, 2009.

        She was born June 4, 1935, in Lewis County, W.Va., to the late Roy C. and Alma King Davisson. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Belmont, member of the Stones Tax Service Bowling League and a member of the Pioneer Community CEO's.

        She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Robert K. Lattea of Belmont; one son, James Lattea of Richmond, Va.; one daughter, Sara Hyre and her husband, William, of Belmont; two grandchildren, Benjamin K. Hyre and Heather E. Hyre, both of Belmont; two sisters, Anna Groah and her husband, Eugene, Susan Singleton and her husband, Dale, both of Camden, W.Va.; two brothers, Ancil Davisson and his wife, Mary, of Alum Creek, W.Va., and Danny J. Davisson and his wife, Thelma, of Jane Lew, W.Va.; and many nieces and nephews.

        In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her mom, Freda Davis Davisson; two brothers, Duane Davisson of Weston, W.Va., and Aubrey Davisson of Alum Bridge, W.Va.; and one sister, Shirley Balentine of Kansas.

        Services will be 4 p.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church of Belmont, 301 Clark Street, Belmont, with Pastor Kelly Snyder officiating. Interment will be in Pleasants Memorial Estates, Eureka, W.Va. Calling hours will be from 4-8 p.m. today at Ingram Funeral Home, St. Marys, W.Va., and from 3-4 p.m. Friday at the church.

        A funeral service for Mary Jane Lawrence, 74, of Newark, will be held at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Brucker & Kishler Funeral Home with Rev. Walter Bruah officiating. Cremation will follow.

        Mrs. Lawrence, a homemaker, passed away July 27, 2009 at Arlington Care Center. She was born January 5, 1935 in Newark, the daughter of the late Richard Grant Shaffer and Gertrude Oleta (Smith) Barcus.

        She was a member of the Salvation Army. She enjoyed embroidery, her salt and pepper shaker collection and the Women’s Home League at church.

        She married Frederick Lee Lawrence. He preceded her in death.

        Mrs. Lawrence is survived by: four sons – Wayne (Louann) Lawrence of Newark, Charles (Jane) Lawrence of St. Louisville, Thomas Lawrence of Newark, Robert (Tami) Lawrence of Frazeysburg; two daughters – Helen Lawrence of Newark, Linda (Floyd) Allen of Heath; special children – Terry (Karissa) Binckley, Brenda (Mark) Metelko,  Donna Sue, Rodney and Brenda; one brother – Wesley  Givens of Newark; eight grandchildren – Tiffani, Zack, Khristie (Danny), Danny, Katie, Karalee, Brittany and Alivea.

        She was also preceded in death by a grandson Brendan Lawrence, a son Paul Lawrence , two daughters Oleta Louise Lawrence and Cora Ann Pfouts, and a brother Leon Givens.

        The family would like to thank the staff of Unit 4 of Arlington Care Center for all of their love and care of Mary.

Virginia E. Lee, age 78, of Sardis, Ohio died Saturday June 20, 2009 at the Wetzel County Hospital New Martinsville, West Virginia. She was born April 25, 1931 in Monroe County Ohio a daughter of the late Harold Lohr and Georgia Byers Lohr.

She was a member of St. Paul's Church Trail Run, and a member of the Ladies Aid Society.

Preceded in death by her husband: Victor Lee - 2000, and 1 brother: George Lohr.

She is survived by 4 daughters: Kathy (David) Ivey - Sardis, Ohio, Linda (Stephen) Langsdorf - Sardis, Ohio, Diana (Richard) Tenley - Sardis, Ohio, Patty (Randy) Ludolph -Sardis, Ohio, 1 brother: Lloyd Lohr - Fly, Ohio, 9 Grandchildren, and 13 Great-Grandchildren.

Friends will be received from (2-4) & (7-9) p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. Monday until time of Funeral Service at 11 a.m. at the Bauer-Turner Funeral Home 100 S. Paul St. Woodsfield, Ohio with Rev. Leeper, Robert Clark Leeper

        Robert C. “Bob” Leeper, 83, 43188 Sandbar Rd., Lewisville, died Nov. 8, 2009 at Marietta Memorial Hospital. He was born Sept. 20, 1926 at Cambridge, a son of the late Myron and Alice Hill Leeper.

        He was a retired Command Sergeant Major in the U.S. Army serving during WWII, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Church of Christ; a member of Stafford Lodge #300 F & A.M.; a member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Cambridge; a member of the Osiris Shrine Temple, Wheeling, W.Va., and a member of the American Legion Post #87 Woodsfield.

        Surviving are his wife, Eleanor Yockey Leeper, whom he married on June 4, 1988; a daughter, Kathy (Larry) Thompson of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; two sons, Darrell (Cynde) Leeper of Lower Salem, Mark (Sheryl) Leeper of Richmond, Ky.; a step-daughter, Gyl (Rodney) Sealand of Mercer, Pa.; a step-son, Eric Miracle of Dallas, Texas; a sister, LaQuita (Joe) Davis of Lore City; seven grandchildren, Nathaniel (Leigh) Thompson, Jessica and Derek Thompson, Amy, Sara, Heather and Emily Leeper; three great-grandchildren, Natalie, Hope and Taylor Thompson; two step-grandchildren, Logan (Derek) Norman and Nick Sims; two step-great-grandchildren, Radisson and Wyatt Norman.

        In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Vera June Smith Leeper in 1986; and a brother, Dale Leeper.

        Friends were received Nov. 11, at Watters Funeral Home, Woodsfield, where funeral services were held Nov. 12.  Burial will follow in Stafford Cemetery, with full military graveside services by the Guernsey County Veterans Council.

        Masonic services were held Nov. 11 at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

LEWIS, Larry Neal, 62, of Bellaire, Ohio, died Friday, February 6, 2007, in the Wheeling Hospital, Wheeling, W.Va. He was born August 6, 1946, in Bellaire, Ohio, a son of the late Edward and Goldie Wilkinson Lewis.

Larry was an employee of the Ormet Corporation in Hannibal, Ohio. He was a Protestant by faith and a US Army veteran of the Vietnam Conflict.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by five sisters, Emma Henry, Annie Jones, Bertha Burgy, Helen Lewis and Mabel Neff and three brothers, Arthur, James and Charles "Bud" Lewis.

Surviving are his wife, Karen Pedeleose Lewis; two daughters, Angela Hyatt of Bellaire, and Shari (Terry) Fitch of St. Clairsville, Ohio; one sister, Gladys Boston of Massillon, Ohio and one brother, Harry Lewis of Shadyside, Ohio; four grandchildren, Dustin, Jeremy, Paige and CJ and several nieces and nephews.

Litman, Ronald E. Litman

Ronald E. Litman, age 90, of Canton, passed away Thursday February 5, 2009 in Aultman Hospital. He was born September 16, 1918 in Hannibal, OH. to the late Thomas Allen and Ethel E. (Webber) Litman.

Ronald was a WWII Army veteran where he served in the infantry in Europe. He was a Canton area resident for more than 50 years and he and his wife spent many winters in Florida. He retired from Midwest Trucking in 1980 and was employed by The Beaver Excavating Company.

He was a member of 38th St. Church of Christ and a former member of Market Ave. Church of Christ. He was a life member of St. Mihiel DAV #6.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by three sons, Randy Joe, Terry Lee and Arthur Litman; one daughter, Marcia Rae Litman; half-siblings, Robert, Denver, Grace, Hattie and Herbert; one brother, Jan Litman.

He is survived by his wife, Edra E. (Devore) to whom he was married 64 years; two daughters-in-law, Lynn Litman McCoy and Kathy Litman Kirkman; five grandchildren, Ben and Justin of N. Canton, Cody, Taylor and Tessa of Magnolia; one great grandson, Joey Litman; one sister, Ada (Earl) Clegg; two brothers, Allen (Elda) Litman and Kenneth Litman; sister-in-law, Betty Litman; numerous nieces and nephews.

         Lively, Jessie Marilyn, age 81 of Sardis, OH died Saturday, May 02, 2009 at home.She was born October 01, 1927 in Sardis, Ohio, the daughter of the late Clark Jess and Samantha Ann Rush Smittle.
        She was a retired secretary at the Ormet Corporation, Hannibal, OH, attended the Church of Christ, and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary American Legion Post 760, Hannibal and the VFW Post 9930, Duffy, OH.

        In addition to his parents, her husband, Samuel Lively; five sisters, Modjeska Anderson, Sarah Bowen, Gaynelle Van Camp, Clara Morris, Jeanette Foutty.
Survivors include a son, Rick (Linda) Lively; a daughter, Sharlyn (Don) King; a brother, Gary Smittle; two grandchildren, Scott King and Kayla Lively, all of Sardis.

LOEW, Carolyn June "Kay" "Grandma Kay," 61, of Shadyside, Ohio, died Saturday, February 21, 2009.She was born November 23, 1947, in Bellaire, a daughter of the late Clarence Carrell Glass and Ruth Adele Nelson Glass.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Loew; and a daughter, Jody Crow.

Surviving are a daughter, Josie Loew of Jacobsburg; a son, Chad Loew of St. Clairsville; brothers, Frank Glass of Shadyside and Kevin Glass of Powhatan Point; sisters, Adele Harrigan of Powhatan Point, Alice Perkins of Shadyside, Pam Williams of Dilles Bottom, and Roxane Palmer of Jacobsburg; eight grandchildren, Brian, Cameron, Gianna, Izzy, Devin, Miya, Dio, and Baileigh.

Rae Jean Logan, 68, Barnesville, OH passed away Friday, August 28, 2009 with her loving family surrounding her. She was born July 2, 1941 in Bellaire to the late Paul A. and Helen M. (Steiner) Warfield.

She was a member of the Somerton United Methodist Church and OES #206.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 51 years - John Logan; 2 sons - Kevin (Tina) Logan of Cranberry Twp, PA and Alan (Patti) Logan of Cambridge; daughter - Lori (David) Watson of Barnesville; and 3 sisters - Jackie (Ted) Huntsman of Barnesville, Dee (Kenny) Denbow of Shadyside and Robyn Lashley of Barnesville. Rae Jean took great pride in her family, especially her grandchildren - Josh (Amanda) Watson, Melissa (Dave) Mazgaj, Nick, Cam, Matt, and Sammi Logan and great grandchildren - Brooke Watson and Emma Mazgaj. Our hearts are broken but rest in knowing that she is no longer suffering.

McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, Caldwell, Ohio, dated, January 20, 2009

Robert H. Lori, age 82, of Belle Valley, Ohio, died Monday, January 19, 2009, at Select Specialty Hospital in Zanesville, Ohio. He was born December 29, 1926, in Noble County, Ohio, son of the late Lewis and Anna Lorey Lori. 

 He was a World War II U. S. Army veteran, having served in the Philippines, and he was retired as a rail layer from the Pennsylvania Railroad. He was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Belle Valley, and a member of the Belle Valley Post # 641 American Legion, where he formerly served as sergeant-at-arms and district sergeant-at-arms. He was also a life member of the Caldwell VFW Post #4721.
            In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Jean Ward Lori; his second wife, Mildred Hesson Lori; one son, Robert J. Lori; three sisters, Pearl Wheeler, Annabelle Clark, and Marie Gornel; two brothers, Earl and Jim Lori; and one great-granddaughter.      
        Surviving are three daughters, Jean (Pete) Smith of Belle Valley, Heleanna (Cliff) Smith of Gainesville, Florida, and Marguerite Boney of Summerfield; one brother, Paul Edward (Reva) Lori of Lancaster; 6 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

        Rodney E. Loughmiller, 92, of Topeka passed away at Lexington Park Care Center on Tuesday, March 10, 2009. Mr. Loughmiller was a retired Credit Union Executive. He was General Manager for Forbes Credit Union now known as Credit Union One of Kansas, and was instrumental in moving the Credit Union from the Air Base to Downtown Topeka, where a new building was constructed at 10th and Polk. Prior to this time he was an accountant with Ed Marling Stores, and before that he was production and branch manager for Seymour Foods. Born July 6, 1916, in Hollis, Kansas, he was the youngest of six children of Harry and Elizabeth Loughmiller. He graduated from Onaga High School and the University of Kansas. He played football for KU and was an avid fan of football and basketball having had season tickets to KU games for over 50 years. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. He is a member of Wanamaker Woods Church of the Nazarene, as well as many clubs and organizations, including the Masonic Lodge Siloan # 225. For many years he was a volunteer for Midland Hospice and served on the Board of Directors.

        Mr. Loughmiller was first married to Mary Sardou who died in 1983. To this union three daughters were born. In 1988 he married Mildred Bowers at Humboldt, NE, who survives. Other survivors are daughters, Linda E. Curtis of Rochester, MN, Jean Ann Buchanan of Topeka and Gayle G. Highley of Springfield, IL; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

        Memorial services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, March 13th at Wanamaker Woods Church of the Nazarene. Inurnment will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Wanamaker Woods Church Of The Nazarene or Heart Of America Hospice or the organization of the donors choice all in care of Davidson Funeral Home. Rodney was an especially loving, kind, and generous man. He delighted in giving gifts to many charitable and religious organizations and always wanted to lend a helping hand to his family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Katherine L. Lozier, 87

        Katherine L. Lozier, 87, of North Vernon, passed away at her residence on Monday, Nov. 30.

        Born Oct. 3, 1922 in Shelbyville, she was the daughter of the late Franklin L. and Thelma Ora Stevens Taggart. She married James Lozier on Nov. 11, 1949. He preceded her in death on Jan. 27, 2000.

        Katherine enjoyed crocheting, working crossword puzzles, watching Gaither gospel videos, cooking and collecting elephants.

        She is survived by two daughters, Janet (Jim) Summers of Louisville and Kathy Brown of North Vernon; a son, Mark B. Lozier of North Vernon; a brother, Robert Taggart of Greenwood; a sister, Virginia Stewart of Shelbyville; Claudette Young, her caregiver; 10 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

        She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, James Michael Lozier; a grandson, Michael Lozier; a brother, James Taggart; and two sisters, Delores Mclain and Norma Stanley.

        Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4 at the Sawyer-Pickett Funeral Home in North Vernon. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Rev. Kristopher Brown will be officiating. Burial will be at the Vernon Cemetery.

        Memorials may be made through Sawyer-Pickett to the Alzheimer's Association.

Freeda M.  Lucas, 95, of Barnesville Health Care Center, formerly of Beallsville, died Saturday, April 4, 2009 at the Center. She was born October 14, 1913 in Lamoil, Illinois, a daughter of the late Ray and Elizabeth Shriver Moore.

She was a member of the Beallsville Church of Christ and the Homemakers’ Club.

In addition to her parents, Freeda was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Lucas; a sister, Emma Sindeldecker Graham; two brothers, Johnnie and Lester Moore; a grandson, Lloyd Ackerman; two great-grandsons, Preston and Uriah Stephen; a son-in-law, Jay Schenerlein.

Surviving are her children, Evelyn (Keith) Ackerman of Somerton, Merwin (Sandy) Lucas and Ronnie (Peggy) Lucas, both of Beallsville, Wilda Schenerlein of Malaga, and Roger (Trudy) Lucas of Middletown, MD; 15 grandchildren, Tim, Danny, Kendall, Teri Jo, Heather, Kim, Kelly, Kyle, Tammy, Tracy, Tiffany, Stacey, Shari, Jason, and Josh; 30 great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.

Visitation will be Monday, April 6th from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM at the Harper Funeral Home, Beallsville where funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 AM with Minister Jeff Rich officiating.         Janet C. Lucas, 81, of Dogwood Court died at 10:50 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009, at Columbus Regional Hospital.

        Mrs. Lucas was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

        Born in Madison June 24, 1927, Mrs. Lucas was the daughter of Leonard S. and Martha J. Mean Stewart. She married Bill Lucas Feb. 4, 1956. He preceded her in death July 24, 2007.

        Survivors include daughters, Becky (Drew) Browne of Columbus and Sherry L. Moir of Houston, Texas; a brother, Del Stewart of Madison; a sister, Avalon Lichlyter of Madison; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

        She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; son, Butch Lucas; daughters, Amber Ford and Debra Joan Lucas.

        Lois “Aileen” Lukacena, 79 of Bloomingdale, OH died Monday, July 27, 2009 at home after a short illness.  She was born in Captina, WV on July 17, 1930 a daughter of the late Clyde Buford Lewis Wetzel and Opal Beatrice Mercer Wetzel.

        Aileen as she was known to her family and friends was a member of the American Legion Post 557 Auxiliary and F.O.P. Auxiliary.  She was retired from the Carriage Inn, Steubenville. 

        Preceded in death by her husband Frank Lukacena; brother James Wetzel; sister Marcella Wiesman and two infants.  Aileen is survived by daughters Debra Aileen Lukacena of Tellico Plains, TN and Helen Janine (Vince) Dowdle of Bloomingdale; sons Frank Wayne (Lynn) Lukacena of Bloomingdale and Joseph Allen (Rachel) Lukacena of Cadiz, OH; brother Ralph Wetzel of Old Washington, OH; sister Mary Ann Mangus of Salesville, OH; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Larry John Lunsford

        Age 60, of 1704 Straight Run, Alum Bridge, passed away at 9:53AM on Thursday, February 19, 2009 at his residence, following a brief illness.

       He was born in Weston on December 2, 1948; son of the late John Brenne Lunsford and Bonnie Leone (Lattea) Lunsford. On March 28, 1970, he married Rosalie (Parker) Lunsford, who survives.

       Also surviving are two sons, Larry G. and Gary R. Lunsford both of Alum Bridge, one sister, Fay Leona Blake of Weston and several nieces, nephews, brother-in-law and sister-in-law. In addition to his parents, Mr. Lunsford was preceded in death by one sister, Mavis May Lunsford.

        Mr. Lunsford was a truck driver for Miller Supply Company and worked for Savin Brothers on road construction, when I-79 was being built. He also worked for Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens of Jane Lew, Larry was a veteran of Vietnam, serving as a private first class in the United States Army, where he received a Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two bronze service stars, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm Unit Citation Badge, Overseas Service Bar and Sharpshooter. He loved to hunt, fish, camp, and just about anything outdoors.

        Funeral services were held on Saturday, February 21, 2009 at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home chapel with Reverend Clifford West officiating. Interment followed services in the Rock Grove Cemetery of Linn. The Lewis County Honor Guard conducted full military honors at the cemetery.

        NEW MARSHFIELD — Tim Allan Mace, 63, of New Marshfield, passed from this vale of tears to spend eternity with his Lord and savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, June 2, 2009.

        He was preceded in death by his father, Romaine Mace; his mother, Della Bell Carder Mace Leeth; his stepfather, Jennings “Pops” Leeth; and two brothers, Floyd and Leo Mace.

        He was a wonderful husband to his wife of 43 years, Alfreda Elaine Gutberlet Mace; and a wonderful father to his four children, Angela (Steve) Tomek, Christina (Larry) Hook, Tim R. (Amy) Mace and Crystal (Matt) Double; an excellent grandfather to his grandchildren, Stevie, Josh, Alicia, Jessica and Hannah Tomek, Melinda Matheny, Aaron Bryan, Erik and Christopher Hook, and Angel, Timothy, Derek and Trenton Mace; and great-grandfather to Stephany, Suzanne and Shawn II Matheny. He leaves behind sisters, Arlee (George) Halbirt, Addie Jane Riley, Patty West of Indiana and Linda (David) Swart; a brother, Arthur (Rose) Mace; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

        Tim was an ordained minister of Bible Methodist Connection of Tennesee and attended Community Church in Rutland. Tim was sick for an extended period of time, but God gave him to us longer than was medically possible. He has fought a good fight and finished his course, and his treasures are laid up in heaven. He will be greatly missed by family and friends, but we are comforted to know that he is safely resting in Jesus’ care today.

        Services will be held Friday, 2 p.m., at Bigony-Jordan Funeral Home, with the Rev. Stephen Tomek officiating. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, and from noon until the time of the service on Friday. Committal of his body back to God, who gave it, will be held immediately following services, at New Marshfield Cemetery.

He was retired from Kenmack Lumber of Newport, Ohio, worked for Republic Steel in Massillon, and was a Bus Mechanic for Frontier High School. He was an active member of the Woodsfield Eagles, Moose Lodge, VFW and American Legion.

Preceded in death by 1 brother: Joseph Magyar, and 1 sister: Mary Ann Smith.

Ruth was a member of the Hartshorn Ridge Church of Christ.

Preceded in death by her husband, Joseph W. Mallett – 2003, and 3 infant sons, 5 brothers: Heber, Demoine, Eugene, Sam, and Linsey Hartshorn. 4 sisters: Geneva Highman, Anna June Bishop, Alice Meredith Hartshorn, and Gertrude Hines.

        WOODSFIELD -- Ronald J. "Ron" Markey, 52, of 40921 Kindall Road, Woodsfield, Ohio, died Sunday (Jan. 4, 2009) at his home.

        He was born at Akron, Ohio, on March 24, 1956, a son of Dorothy Griffin Markey who survives of Lower Salem, Ohio, and the late John R. Markey.

        Ron was a 1974 graduate of Skyvue High School, Graysville, Ohio; and was technical specifications for Arnold Flexmag Industries in Marietta; he was also a co-owner of R&R Oil & Gas LLC and Roma Oil & Gas. He attended the Hartshorn Ridge Church of Christ near Graysville, Ohio, and was a U.S. Army veteran. Ron enjoyed hunting and being with his dogs and his family.

        Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Cathy Kindall Markey, whom he married on Feb. 14, 1998; two daughters, Courtney Markey of Columbus, Ohio, and Kasia (Shannon) Glancy of McKinney, Texas; one stepdaughter, Catlin Habig of Woodsfield, Ohio; two stepsons, Stephen Habig of Nelsonville, Ohio, and Michael Habig of Woodsfield, Ohio; one brother, Richard (Robin) Markey of Lower Salem, Ohio; two nieces, Tatum Mincks and Caitlyn Markey; and one nephew, Brandon Markey.

Beverly M. Marmie, 69, of Barnesville, Ohio, died Sunday, October 4, 2009, at her home after a long battle with cancer.

She was born October 20, 1939, on Jackson Ridge, Monroe County, a daughter of the late Charles Huffman and Ruth Norris Huffman.

Beverly was a homemaker, a member of the Barnesville First United Methodist Church, and the Barnesville Senior Citizens.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Kimberly Marmie.

Surviving are her husband of 51 years, Robert H. Marmie; a son, Robert (Monty) Marmie of Somerton, Ohio; daughters, Letitia (Steven) Temple of Barnesville, and Rae Jean (Daniel) Naeth of Wolfhurst, Ohio; grand children Brandon (Stacy), Tabitha (Justin), Tiffany, Shawnee, Shane and Danielle; great-grand children Jadyn, Katy, Dillon, Ajay and Ethan; a sister, Velma (Bill) Guess of Columbus; brothers, Wayne (Karen) Huffman and Ronald (Billie Jean) Huffman, all of Woodsfield; and several nieces and nephews.

MARONI, Louanne, 72, of Pine Lane Barnesville, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, August 4, 2009, in Emerald Point Nursing and Rehab of Barnesville.

She was born October 25, 1936, in Morristown, Ohio, a daughter of the late Harold Pickering and Wilma VanCuren Pickering.

Louanne was a retired supervisor with Belco Crafts Sheltered Workshop where she enjoyed 24 years working with the handicapped.

She was a member of the Flushing Birthday Club, and co-owner of Lori Lou Dolls.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Phyllis K. Luyster; a brother, Harold Elton Pickering; a sister-in-law, Charlotte Pickering; and a brother- in-law, John Donaldson.

Surviving are her husband of 50 years, Tony Maroni of New Athens; daughters, Lori (Les) Tickhill of Barnesville, Susie (Lee) Nichol of Flushing, Shelly (Mike) Moore of Jacobsburg; sons, Tony Lynn (Brenda) Maroni of New Athens, Mick Maroni of Columbus, Jeff (Mary Beth Lewis) Maroni of Woodsfield; sisters, Euralee (Pete) Forester of Bradenton, Fla., Maxine Donaldson of Fairpoint, and Lila (Dave) Murphy of Flushing; a brother, Doyle Pickering of Flushing.

Her true joy and treasures were her children, grandchildren, and great- grandchildren.

Helen (Grimm) Marsh, 86, died peacefully at Riverside Hospital May 4, 2009 surrounded by loving family.

Born in Woodsfield, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Mary and Orlando Grimm. Brother and sister, Robert and Ruth, are deceased.

Helen was preceded in death by her loving husband, Dana, after 60 years of marriage. They resided in Powhatan Point for many years, then relocated in Columbus in 1963. Together they enjoyed serving as proprietors of the Baskin Robbins in Westerville.

Helen is survived by sister, Betty Paulus of Woodsfield, Ohio, daughter, Christine Boyers, Grandsons, John and Matthew(Betsy), Great Grandaughters, Mackenzie, Kaia, Jillian and many nieces and nephews.

She was endeared by friends and all who knew her for her quiet and very kind nature. She remained a very charitable and generous woman throughout her life. Family will always remember her for her guidance, unconditional devotion and love.

        BAILEY LAKES -- Loretta V. Marty, 88, of Bailey Lakes, died Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2009, at Hospice House.

        Born on June 29, 1921, in Sardis, the daughter of Felix and Cristina (Ludy)* Schindler, she was an Ashland County resident for more than 20 years. While in Ashland County, she was a homemaker. On Feb. 14, 1942, she married Lawrence Marty. He preceded her in death in 1998. She was a member of Ashland Homemakers, was an avid card player and enjoyed crafts.

        Surviving are sisters-in-law, Margie Schindler of Hannibal and Patricia Marty of Woodsfield; and many nieces and nephews.

        In addition to her husband, Lawrence, she is preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Lester, Carl and Clarence Schindler, Alberta Tisher and Irene Schindler.

        Morris "Sonny" G. Masterson, 74, of Evansville, passed away Tuesday, June 16, 2009, at his residence.

        He was in the Navy from 1952-1956, and a veteran of the Korean War. Sonny was a member of the American Veterans and the American Legion. He was a truck driver for ANR (Associate Truck Line), retiring in 1990. Sonny enjoyed working with wood and repairing any problem with a car. He also liked to go on arrowhead hunts.

        Sonny is survived by his wife of twenty-four years, Betty (Allen) Masterson; sons, David Masterson and Rodney Masterson and wife, Laura; daughter, Trena Riggle and husband, Eddy; sons, Tim, Chris, Matt and Tommy Masterson and son, Paul Clark, all of Evansville; twenty grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren; brothers, Don, Bill, Buddy and Ronnie Masterson; and sisters, Barb Robinson and Joyce Grant, all of Evansville.

        He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Effie Opal Masterson; and sons, Jeffrey and Brian Masterson.

        Services will be Friday, June 19, 2009, at 10 a.m. at Ziemer Funeral Home Central Chapel, 626 First Ave., Evansville, with Reverend Ray Brown officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

Albert was a retired employee of North American Coal Company #1 mine, a member of the UMWA, and a farmer.  He was a member of Powhatan United Methodist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, William “Bob” May; and an infant son; and two sisters, Edna Palmer and Bertha Palmer.

Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Betty Palmer May; a daughter, Beverly Necessary of Powhatan Point; a daughter-in-law, Anna Mae May of Powhatan Point; 6 grandchildren, Carla Brandon, Bobby May, Duane Necessary, Kathleen Necessary, Emory Necessary and Kristin Necessary; 12 great grandchildren; 4 brothers, William E. LOWER SALEM - Frank E. "Junior" McAlarney, 83, of Lower Salem, passed away at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday (Feb. 14, 2009) at Heartland of Marietta.He was born on May 16, 1925, in Akron, Ohio, a son of Frank E. and Ruth Baker McAlarney.

He was a farmer and a member of the Apostolic Pentecostal Church.

He is survived by two sons and three daughters, Terry McAlarney, John McAlarney of Lower Salem, Beverly (John) Schwenk of Knox, Ind., Shirley (Marion) Austin of Lewisville, Ohio, and Susan Newkirk of Nashville, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert (Mildred) McAlarney of Bonn and Fred (Peggy) McAlarney of Belpre; and one aunt, Arminta Lee of Marietta.

He was preceded in death by his former wife, Bessie Overman.

MCCLELLAND, Mary Margaret Greenlee, 82, of Beallsville, Ohio, died Tuesday, July 14, 2009, in Monroe County Care Center, Woodsfield, Ohio.

She was born October 26, 1926, in Glencoe, Ohio, a daughter of the late Theodore Crall and Beulah Wheeler Crall.

Mary was a Christian by faith, a member of Powhatan VFW Post 5565 Ladies Auxiliary, and American Gold Star Mothers.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Duane F. Greenlee and Charles McClelland; two sons, Duane T. Greenlee and Charles Henry McClelland; and a great-grand daughter, Makayla Phillips.

Surviving are eight children, Jack (Bow) Greenlee of Jacobsburg, Dianna (Terry "Auger") Armann of Beallsville, Barbara Brown of Odessa, Texas, Brenda (Charles) Payne of Dallas, Texas, Jim (Bobbi Jo) Greenlee of Clarington, Beulah Mary Jo (Jerry "O") Palmer of Clarington, John Greenlee of Powhatan Point, and George (Donna) Greenlee of Clarington; a brother, Russell Crall of Florida; sisters, Bonnie Kirkland of Mechanicstown, Ohio and Theodora "Peeper" Christy of Rittman, Ohio.; 27 grandchildren, 36 great-grand children, and a great-great- granddaughter.

        Dorval Irene McDonald, age 89, of Bloomington, died Saturday afternoon at the Richland-Bean Blossom Health Care Center in Ellettsville. Born August 14, 1920, in Brown County, Indiana, she was the daughter of Edward and Hazel (Allender) Voland. She was a loving homemaker and a member of Eastern Star.

        She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Clyde E. and Pat McDonald of Hockessin, Delaware, and Lance S. and Debbie McDonald of Bloomington; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

        She was preceded in death by her husband, Carroll C. McDonald; four brothers, Harry Voland, Lloyd Voland, Paul Voland and Richard "Dude" Voland; and one sister, Pauline Rogers.

He was a retired dental technician and riverboat deckhand.

He was a member of the Clarington United Methodist Church; Disabled Veterans; Odd Fellows; Rebecca Lodge; a 50-year member of American Legion Post 760; Clarington V.F.D.; and a U.S. Navy Seabees veteran of WWII.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Georgia “Babe” McDougal; and four brothers, Floyd, Cyril, Elmer and Harry McDougal.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.

      She was a 1939 graduate of Elk Rural High School in Harriettsville. During World War II, she was employed at the Hoover Defense Plant in Zanesville, and she was a retired employee of First National Bank in Caldwell. Betty was a faithful member of the Calais Baptist Church since 1974, and she was a talented and skilled seamstress.
     In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her first husband, Harry Kohut, who died in 1964; and one brother, Clyde Crum, who died in 1997.
     Surviving are her husband, Charles ''Fred'' McGee, whom she married March 25, 1970; ond daughter, Kathye (Phil) Kohut Holstein of Cumberland; two sisters, Virginia Crum Watson of Caldwell and Margaret Crum Warner of Summerfield; three grandchildren, Paula (Todd) Holstein Carpenter, Trixy (Charles) Holstein Carpenter, and Phillip Holstein; three great-grandchildren, Kelsey, Xyler, and Chance Carpenter; and several nieces and nephews.

Darby was affiliate with the Stumptown Long Rifle Shop and a Protestant by faith. He served his country in the US Navy, was a member of the Bethesda Epworth Post #90 American Legion and a member of the Barnesville Elks Lodge #1699.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Emma Paulick McGraw; a daughter, Debbie (Vince) Wineman of Beallsville, Ohio; a son, David (Carol) Kinser-McGraw of Morgantown; a granddaughter, Grace Wineman of Beallsville; a sister, Mary Jane Small of Florida; and a brother, James McGraw of Oregon.

        NILES – A memorial service will be held Friday, March 20, at 10:30 a.m. at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Austintown for family and friends of Mary L. McKinstry, 54, who died at Forum Health Northside Medical Center in Youngstown, after a long term illness.

        She was born Dec. 5, 1954, the daughter of Dorsey and Linda Wilson Strosnider.

        Mary was a graduate of Chaney High School. She was an avid bingo player and a Pittsburgh Steelers fan.

        She was a prep cook, then a custodian at Disney World in Florida.

        She is survived by her husband, David McKinstry Jr., whom she married May 4, 1974; son, David McKinstry III and daughter, Linda McKinstry; a sister, Patricia Tarr; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

        She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Walter and Earl Strosnider.

        Nelda McPeek of Sunset, died October 28th at South Ogden's Manor Care after heroically battling the effects of multiple brain tumors over several years. Nelda was born in Garrett County, MD, in 1933 and grew up in West Virginia attending nursing school at Reynold's Memorial Hospital in Glendale. In October, 1952 she married Mike McPeek, whom she met while Christmas caroling the previous year. The 57-year marriage yielded two beloved children, son Michael of Ogden and daughter Malinda Bender of Andover, NJ. Nelda's professional career as a nurse spanned her adult life including 29 years at St. Benedict's/Ogden Regional Medical Center. She is survived by her children and devoted husband and by sisters Phoebe DeVille, Malinda Pankl and Carol Parker.

        Mrs. Meade was born Nov. 2, 1915, in Okarche. She died May 6, 2009, at Grace Living Center. She was a lifetime Canadian County area resident.

        Lydia Reimers married Roy Alexander Meade on Dec. 12, 1934, in El Reno. She was a farmer's wife and homemaker. Mrs. Meade was a lifelong member of Olivet Nazarene Church, where she had served as the church treasurer for 40 years. Lydia loved to cook, paint pictures, sew, and taking care of children, and she loved her flowers.

        Lydia was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Otto and Minna (Theims) Reimers; her husband, Roy Alexander Meade; seven sisters, Emma Meade Ellison, Nettie Holland Wildman, Christine Magby, Lorine LaBrue, Rose Teague, Lucille Lynch and Violet Sanders; and two brothers, Norman Reimers and Charlie Reimers.

        Survivors include three sons, Allen Meade and wife, Pam, Duane Meade and wife, Roxie, and Delbert Meade and wife, Doris, all of Calumet; a daughter, Frankie Law and husband, Del of Fredericksburg, Texas; brother, Henry Reimers of Clinton; sisters, Loretta Nicholson of Okarche and Pauline Lagaly of Oklahoma City; eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Doris Jean Riggenbach Mehler, 53, of 39054 State Route 800, Woodsfield, Ohio died Friday, February 6, 2009 at the Mt. Carmel West Hospital, Columbus, Ohio. She was born near Sardis, Ohio on August 28, 1955 a daughter of Ann Ritchie Riggenbach who survives of Sardis, Ohio and the late Homer W. Riggenbach.

Doris was a former seamstress at the former L.G.A.M. Manufacturing in Woodsfield, Ohio and a former cook at The Arbors of Marietta, Ohio. She was a former President of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Antioch Fire Department and formerly served on the E-Squad.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by one brother, Wilfred Riggenbach; one brother-in-law, Bernard Mehler and two sisters-in-law, Margaret Mehler and Mary Greer.

Surviving in addition to her mother, are her husband, Harry G. Mehler whom she married on August 21, 1984; one sister: Berneta (John) Minger of New Matamoras, Ohio; two brothers: Gary (Diane) Riggenbach of Hannibal, Ohio and Leslie (Pam) Riggenbach of Adena, Ohio; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Friends will be received at the Watters Funeral Home, 37501 State Route 78 West, Woodsfield, Ohio from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday, February 10, 2009 where funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 11, 2009 with Rev. Frank Conley officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Olive Cemetery near Sardis, Ohio.

        Age 61, of Brighton passed away at his home on Sunday, February 8, 2009 following an extended illness.

        He was born October 12, 1947 in Ashland, Ohio and was the son of Earl and Doris Mellberg. On July 18, 1992 he was married to Kathy Compagnoni in Howell and together they made Livingston County their home.

        Jerry proudly served his country in the United States Army and was honorably discharged at the rank of SP-4 after completing one tour of Vietnam. He was a former baseball coach in the Ann Arbor area, as well as being a disc jockey and enjoying music, boating, and motorcycles. He was a loyal and dedicated employee as an automotive engineer for the former AMC Corporation then to the Chrysler Corporation for over 28 years.

        Surviving is his wife Kathy of Brighton, 1 son, Bryan Mellberg of Brighton, 2 step-daughters, Andrea Bellotto of Farmington Hills and Alissa Bellotto of Las Vegas, Nevada, 1 sister, Susan ( Kay ) Lybarger of Ohio, 2 nieces, Kimberly and Dawn and 1 nephew, Kenny.

        The family will receive friends at the KEEHN FUNERAL HOME, Brighton ( 810-229-9871 ) on Wednesday, Feb. 11th beginning at 4:00 PM with a prayer service at 6:00 PM. Memorial contributions are requested to the ALS Foundation of Michigan or to Angela Hospice of Livonia.

James Richard "Dick" Mendenhall, 81, of Marietta, passed away on Monday (Feb. 23, 2009) at Heartland of Marietta. He was born on Jan. 5, 1928, in Newport, Ohio, a son of Howard William and Nettie Jane Burkhart Mendenhall.

Dick had been employed at Remington Rand Sperry Univac, Kardex Systems and Washington County Engineer's Office, retiring in 1993. He was a graduate of Newport High School and had served in the U.S. Army.

On Oct. 16, 1948, he married Corrine Binegar, who survives with four daughters, Janet Mendenhall of Marietta, Bonna (Thomas) Lamp of Rinard Mills, Joyce (Larry) Lent of Concord, N.C., and Monna (Cam) West of New Matamoras; seven grandchildren, Joesph (Lori) Lamp of Lowell, Lori (Trent) Smith of Brownsville, Ohio, Stacey (Aaron) Courtney of Beverly, Cory and Samuel Lent of Concord, N.C., Cam (Shannon) West of Newport and Carrie (Dustin) Nippert of Texas; and great-grandchildren, Joesph and Danielle Lamp, Katelynn and Dakota Smith, Blake and Cassidy Courtney, Briar and Maddox West and Caden and Aubrey Nippert. Also surviving are two sisters, Dorothy Edgar of New Matamoras and Themla Skinner of Marietta; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Elizabeth Wiley; two brothers, Calvin and Ronald Mendenhall; and grandparents, Ike and Mary Mendenhall and Micheal and Elizabeth Burkhart.

        Burl T. Mercer, age 69, of Edgerton, Ohio, died at 3:05 p.m. on Saturday, August 15, 2009, at Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers in Bryan, Ohio, after a brief illness. Mr. Mercer was employed by Edgerton Metal Products as a trim press operator, retiring in 2001 with the closure of the plant and thirty years of service.
        Burl T. Mercer was born on January 16, 1940, in Captina, West Virginia, the son of Burl C. and Evelyn Irene (Bostic) Mercer. He married Melba I. Barker on September 20, 1958, in Duncan Falls, Ohio, and she survives.
        He is also survived by four children, Brenda (Eddie) Boterf, of Sherwood, Ohio, Marvin (Wendy) Mercer, of Edgerton, Ohio, Saundra (Dale) Kramer, of Sherwood, Ohio, and Barry (Darlene) Mercer, of Hamilton, Indiana, six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Also surviving are four brothers, Charles (Margaret) Mercer, of Kinsman, Ohio, Danny (Kathy) Mercer, of Edgerton, Ohio, Alfred (Marolyn) Mercer, of Montpelier, Ohio, and Russell Mercer, of Almira, Ohio, two sisters, Evelyn Hurlbert, of Vienna, Ohio, and Diana (Ernie) Eckart, of Burghill, Ohio. She was a member of Assumption Church, Altar Society, Catholic Womens Club, VFW, Bridgeport Eagles and Wellsburg LOOM Auxillary.

She was preceded in death by husband, Walter D. Jefferis, Sr; son, Walter D. Jefferis, Jr; three brothers, Everett, Francis, and Joseph Burkhart; and three sisters, Audrey Carpenter, Luzelda Stephen and Virginia Kimble.

Surviving are her husband, Harlan Mercer; son, Robert (Sandra) Jefferis of Barnesville; daughter, Donna (James) Lee of Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.; daughter-in-law, Sandra Jefferis of Fulton, MS; sister, Edna Tepley of Wickliffe, Ohio; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grand children; and six great-great- grandchildren.

        KINSMAN - Zelda L. (Somerville) Mercer, age 94, of Kinsman, Ohio, died Monday, May 11, 2009, at her home. She was born Jan. 3, 1915, in Apollo, Pa., the daughter of John H. and Mary M. (Baker) Black. Mrs. Mercer was a 1932 graduate of Greene Township High School in Commodore, Pa. A longtime Kinsman resident, she was employed by Target Stamped Products in Kinsman for twenty-six years, retiring in 1976.

        She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Andover, where she belonged to the Women's Missionary Union and enjoyed playing the organ and piano. Her hobbies included crafts, reading and flower gardening. She especially enjoyed her violets.

           Mrs. Mercer is survived by her daughter, Margaret (Charles) Mercer of Kinsman; her two sons, Bill (Nancy) Somerville of West Lafayette, Ohio, and Herman (Louella) Somerville of Orwell, Ohio; her sister, Erma Rosenberger of Vandergrift, Pa.; 16 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her first husband, Ernest L. Somerville; her second husband, Burl C. Mercer; her three daughters, Avonell (Earl) Addicott, Doris (Jack) Mercer and Marion (Mel) Kring; one son, John Somerville Sr.; three granddaughters, Cindy Somerville, Laura Somerville and Jennifer Marsh; three sisters, Grace Heckman, Ida Michaels and Mabel Clark; a brother, Arthur Black; and an infant brother.

He was retired from Bennoc Coal and was a member of VFW Post 2792 and American Legion Post 168.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy and two sisters, Dorothy Miller and Shirley Froehlich.

        News has been received of the death Keith Leroy Miller of Niangua, formally [sic--formerly] of Lebanon.

        Miller, 59, died at this [sic--his] home on Sept. 10, 2009 after battling a long long illness.

        He was born on July 31, 1950 in Lebanon to George L. and Carol Green Miller, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by six siblings who died in infancy, and one brother Claude Miller.

        On Dec. 23, 1970, he married Thelma Dinwiddle.

        He was a veteran of the United States Navy and served in the Vietnam War.

        He was also a truck driver for many years, as well as a long-time dairyman and a member of the Missouri Dairymen Association and a graduate of Conway High School.

        He is survived by his wife Thelma Dinwiddie Miller of Niangua; three daughters, Sandra A. Miller of Niangua; Patricia L. Miller of Phillipsburg, and Amy R. Miller of Buffalo; two brothers, Kerry Miller of Phillipsburg and Kenneth Miller of Niangua; three sisters, Billy Ruth Terry of Springfield; Star Light Miller of Lebanon and Sue Lanell Miller of Springfield; seven grandchildren, Nycol Jade White of Oceola, Calvin W. Terry, Kassandra D. Terry and Tessa R. Johnson all of Buffalo, and Heather A. Sibley, Natasha L. Sibley, and Shawn M. Sibley all of Phillipsburg.

        Margaret 'Marge' L. Miller, 73, of Midland, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, July 4, 2009, at Bloomington Hospital. Born in Linton, Indiana, on June 17, 1937, she was the daughter of Jessie L. & Violet M. (Myers) Miller.

        Marge worked at the Jasonville Cord Factory for 14 years.

        Surviving family includes three brothers, Jackie Miller and Bob Miller, both of Midland and Daniel 'Pete' Dove* of Linton; two sisters, Alice Hansen of Midland and Carolyn Widdifield* of French Lick. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

        Marge was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Jessie Miller and two sisters, Betty Crowder* and Jacklyn Alumbaugh.*

        There will be no public visitation or funeral service. The Miller family is following Margaret's wishes with cremation.         Mrs. Mary E. Miller, 70, La Porte, died Tuesday (Oct. 20, 2009) at La Porte Hospital.

        She was born May 4, 1939, in Sullivan County, Ind., the daughter of Byron Close and Eula (Salesman) Close.

        Mary was a homemaker. She was a member of The Salvation Army of La Porte, Ladies Home League and League of Mercy. Mary enjoyed knitting, crocheting and spending time with her family and friends.

        On Sept. 14, 1957, in Hymera, Ind., she married James A. Miller Sr., who preceded her in death Jan. 6, 1986. Her companion, Earl Jones, preceded her in death on Nov. 25, 2006.

        She is survived by her two sons, Ernest (Amy) Miller, Bristol, Ind., and James (Casey) Miller Jr., Elkhart, Ind.; three daughters, Deborah Miller, Elkhart, Kathleen Miller, La Porte, and Anna (Terry) Reavis, Elkhart; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; one sister, Edith Stephens, Linton, Ind.; foster mother, Eva Wheat, Shelburn, Ind.; two foster sisters, Virginia Lucas, Shelburn, Winona Walters, Terre Haute, Ind., and Bryce Jones, whom Mary helped raise.

Miller, Victor Jay Miller

        Vic was born on 1-12-21 in Geff, Illinois. His father died when Vic was four leaving his mother with three small children and a fourth on the way. Despite this, he was able to attend the University of Illinois on an FFA scholarship. There he received his BS, MS, and PhD in horticulture. His studies were interrupted by WWII. He volunteered for the Rangers. He was with the 5th Rangers during the D-Day invasion. In Germany he was taken prisoner, escaped, and was later recaptured.

        After the war, and graduation, he was chairman of horticulture at the University of Nebraska. He came to ASU in 1958 and taught there until retirement in 1986. While there he was host of GARDENING FOR FUN a weekly TV show on KAET for over twenty years. He also wrote a column for the AZ Republic with the same name. He was president of the Faculty Senate, on the Camp Fire Board, active in Community Christian Church, Toastmasters, East Valley Ex¬POW's, and the Board of Boyce Thompson Arboretum. He also enjoyed hiking the Canyon and other areas of the Colorado Plateau.

Miller, his sister Vera Lee Cox of Fairfield, Illinois, his son Brian Miller (Kazuko) of Tokyo, daughter Bobbie Miller(Steve Trimble) of Tempe, grandchildren Douglas and Amelia Miller, step¬-grandchildren John, Chris, Robin (Wes) Trimble, and great-step-grandson Jake Trimble.

Sara Knox Milligan, 95, of East Main Street, Barnesville, died September 25, 2009. She was the wife of Harry Milligan who passed away December 24, 2002.

She was born January 17, 1914 near Glencoe, daughter of the late Thomas and Anna McMaster Knox.

Sara was retired from the former Belmont Sanitarium. She lived in Bethesda for 20 years and was a member of Alpha Pi Sigma Sorority.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by brothers, Carl Knox of Glencoe and James Knox of California.

Surviving are her devoted family, Janet Smith Nelson (Ed) of Fremont, NE,   Wilma Simmons of Alliance and Gloria Miller (Richard) of Beallsville, Hope Smith Ghaffari (Farhad) of Hampton, VA, Renee Smith Hunter (David) of Barnesville, Brent Smith of Duluth, GA, Amber and Ryan Hunter, Amanda, Michael and Kevin Ghaffari, a niece, Thelma Knox of St. Clairsville and all her special friends at the Walton Retirement Home.

He was retired from Lamborn Floral Company of Alliance, Ohio with over 30 years of service. Glenn was a US Navy Veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Gravel Hill Baptist Church, and a member of the New Matamoras V.F.W.

Preceded in death by sisters: Rosie, Mazie, Velma, Dorothy, Burles, Nora, and Dora. Brothers: Clarence, Charles, and Dean.

Surviving is his wife of 61 years, married Oct. 26, 1947: Betty A. Julie Moles 53, of Beallsville passed away in the early hours of July 5, 2009 at her home  from terminal cancer.  

She was an employee of Riesbeck’s of Barnesville and Rockwell Orchard for many years and she was known to her friends as “Chicken Julie”. 

She was preceded in death by her sister, Debbie Smith Welch, her brother, Michael Smith, and her father, Duane Smith.  She is survived by her husband, Dale Moles, Jr. of Beallsville, brother Ric Smith of West Hamlin, WV, daughters Tish Smith McMillan, Brandy Smith Kinney, Angela Fritz Palmer, Barbara Fritz Bier and grandchildren Ashley Nelson, Jaymi Smith, Cullin Smith, Nathan Kinney, Noah Kinney, Tristan Palmer, Rileigh Palmer and Mason Bier all of Beallsville, niece Kristin Welch Barlow and family of Streetsboro and nephew Chad Welch and family of Akron.

        MOODY, Dianna Lynn McDole Moody, age 47, of Mobile, passed away peacefully in her sleep at her residence Saturday evening, January 31, 2009, due to numerous health issues following two valiant battles with breast cancer.

        "Dianne" was born in East Liverpool, OH, on May 10, 1961 to Lillian Geneieve Baker and the late Donald Edward McDole. She moved to the Mobile area from Ohio with her family in the mid-1970s where she attended Theodore High School. In 1976 she met the love of her life and later married William Moody on December 22, 1978. Dianne was a member of St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church, loved to play BINGO, work word puzzles and Sudoku, music, Mardi Gras, her three pet dachshunds, her many friends, and above all dedicated every moment of her life to her husband, sons and grand-daughters. She was always at William's side supporting him during his careers in professional wrestling and funeral service.

        Dianne was preceded in death by her father Donald E. McDole, and grandson Troy Mitchell Moody. She is survived by her husband of 30-years, William A. Moody, of Mobile. Two sons, Michael T. Moody and his wife Beth, also of Mobile; and Daniel J. Moody and his wife Jami, of Milton, FL. The twinkles in her eyes, her two grand-daughters, Grace Elizabeth Moody, and Danielle Marie Moody. Her Precious Mother, Lillian "Lovie" Baker and her husband Carl, of East Liverpool, OH. Five sisters, Brenda Van Dyke (Jim) also of East Liverpool; Sandra Green (Jerry) of Wellsville, OH; Laura Trimble (Bruce) also of Wellsville; Beverly Ratliff (John) of Riceville, TN; and Anita Vincent (David) of East Liverpool. She was born June 28, 1920 near Alledonia, a daughter of the late Elmer VanDyne and Annie Akins Lucas.

She was a member of the Belmont Ridge Christian Church, near Beallsville.

In addition to her parents, Fern was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Moore, an infant son, a grandson, Joe Marmie, a great-grandson, Randal Pittman, son-in-law, Elmer Marmie; also by her companion, Earl Darby.

Surviving are three daughters, Alice Moore of Woodsfield, Dora (Howard) Brown, of Beallsville, and Nora (Ron) Pittman of Jerusalem; a half-sister, Helen Whitlatch; four grand children; two step- grandchildren; five great- grandchildren, and three step-greatgrand children.

        Esther M. Morris, 86, of Evansville, passed away on Friday, February 6, 2009, at Woodlands Convalescent Center.

        Esther retired from Anchor Supply in 1995. She was a member of St. Benedicts Cathedral and enjoyed being with her children and many grandchildren.

        She is survived by daughters Sharon Gill of Santa Claus, Ind., and Sonya Morris of Avon, Ind.; sons, Robert Morris and wife, Lin, of Orlando, Fla., Ronald Morris and wife, Linda, of Newburgh and Randall Morris and wife, Aimee, of Columbus, Ind.; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great grandchildren.

        Esther was preceded in death by her husband, Marion, son, Richard, and brother, Edwin Schutte.

She was a former employee from Viking Glass, a Baptist by faith, and a member of the VFW Auxiliary.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a bother Howard Heinzman and a sister Pearl Ramsar.

Joan Beardmore Morris of Marietta passed away peacefully at Marietta Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, July 14, 2009.
            She was born on July 12, 1931 in Marietta, the only daughter and middle child of Clyde Beardmore and Clara. Rowland Beardmore McClead.  She was proud of the fact that her four brothers all served in a branch of the service.    She   was raised as a Methodist and attended school in Newport and Marietta.    On June 7, 1952 she married Richard "Dick" Morris.    During his 2O years in the United States Air Force they lived in Texas and Indiana.    She was a devoted -wife and mother and grandmother.  She loved recalling times spent with her grandsons.    Her favorite Kitty, Sassy, will miss her very much.
            She is survived by two daughters, Peggy Morris of the home, and ; Mary Jo Montgomery of"  New Matamoras.    Her grandsons are Sean Montgomery and Joshua Montgomery of New Matamoras, and their brothers, Jay, Darrin, and Steve Montgomery. She is also survived by her brother Paul Beardmore and his wife, Alice, sisters-in—law Mary Martha "Marty" Morris, Doris Morris., and Leticia "Tede" Kampmeier, brother-in-law David Morris and his wife Shirley, all of Marietta, and brother-in-law Roy Morris and his wife Elaine of West Virginia.   She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.
            She was preceded in death by her husband on Sept. 11, 1986, her parents and stepfather Furl McClead, and brothers William, Charles (Tom), and Philip.
            Funeral Services will be held 3:00 pm Thursday, July 16 at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Rick Headley officiating.  Burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Park.  Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 pm Wednesday until the hour of service.

        Roy L. Morris, 80, of Cambridge, died Tuesday (Nov. 17, 2009) at his home.

        He was born July 1, 1929, in Zanesville, son of the late Rodney Morris and Hilda (Law) Morris.

        Mr. Morris was a practicing attorney in Cambridge for more than 50 years.  He was in practice with Attorney Gerald Jones, who joined him right after finishing law school.  Mr. Morris was also the Guernsey County assistant prosecutor for 25 years.

        He was a 1947 graduate of Cambridge High School, a 1951 graduate of The Ohio State University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in business accounting and a 1954 graduate of The Ohio State University Law School.

        While attending The Ohio State University, he was in charge of the "Block O," a member of the Sophomore, Junior and Senior Honorary, a member of the Phi Mu Delta fraternity and a member of The Ohio Staters Fan Support Group.  He was a past member of the OSU Athletic Council.

         Mr. Morris was a very active member of First United Methodist Church of Cambridge and held various offices within the church.

        He was past president of the Cambridge Country Club, a member of the Elks 448, past president of the Cambridge Rotary Club, where he had perfect attendance, past president of the Cambridge Little League and former president of the Quaker City National Bank.

        He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served his country for two years.

        He was a devoted family man who loved watching his grandchildren play sports.  He was an avid Ohio State Buckeyes and Cambridge Bobcats fan.

        In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, David, in 1963.

        He is survived by his wife of 56 years, June (Nugen) Morris of the home.  They were married Aug. 30, 1953.  Also surviving are three sons, Tim Morris of Panama City, Fla, Barry (Ingrid) Morris of Winter Springs, Fla., and their children Brady and Sydney and Steve (Denise) Morris of Tampa, Fla., and their children, Tayler, Emily and Brad; a daughter, J.J. (Kevin) Smith of Cambridge, and their children Ian and Adam.

        Family and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church, Cambridge, where services will be 11 a.m. Friday, with the Rev. Dr. Terry Litton officiating.

        Burial will be in Northwood Cemetery, Cambridge.

He was retired from the Yorkville plant of Wheeling- Pittsburgh Steel. Jack was a member of the Colerain Presbyterian Church, and the V.F.W. Post 8848, Colerain, Ohio. He was also a veteran of the U. S. Army, WWII.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers, and three sisters.

Ruth Barbara (Winkler) Moss,80, passed into glory on Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009, with her family close by. She was born Jan. 21, 1929, in Hannibal, Ohio, to Harry and Henrietta (Michel) Winkler.

After graduating from Hannibal High School, she moved to Seville in 1948, where she met and married Claude Moss. They were married for 55 years and spent all their years in Seville.

She has been an active member of Seville First Baptist Church for 60 years, serving her Lord faithfully as a deaconess, church treasurer and church secretary.

She retired from Seville Insurance Agency and also worked at PCA, Westfield Cos. and the Heritage Way Restaurant.

She was a 30-year member of the Wadsworth-Rittman Hospital Women’s Auxiliary. She also was active in the Seville Historical Society, Red Hat Society,  American Red Cross and Cancer Support Group.

She made the most out of every minute, enjoying time with family and friends. She loved to play cards, visit, travel, walk, read, sew, and eat chicken and chocolate.

Surviving are two daughters and their spouses, Melinda (Paul) Metheney of Charlotte, N.C., and Martha (Dan) Stotts of Creston; two treasured grandchildren, Tiffany and David Pope; brother, Herman Winkler of Sterling; a sister, Margaret (Max) Clegg of Clarington, Ohio; dear friends, the Ron Giauque family, Janet Turner and lots of caring nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Claude; parents; four brothers, Harry “Buster,” Arthur, Raymond and Roy; three sisters, Helen McKelvey, Olga Landis and Bertha Zigler; and son-in-law, Darrell Pope.

Friends were received Feb. 16 at Seville First Baptist Church, Seville, where services were held Feb. 17. Burial was in Mount Hill Cemetery.

John A. "Al" Mott, 90, of Barnesville, OH, died Saturday, February 28, 2009 at his home. He was born March 18, 1918 in Bailey Mills, OH son of the late John Irwin and Katherine (Wintrich) Mott.

He was an Army Veteran of WWII and a 20 year veteran of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, serving at the Steubenville, Marietta, Woodsfield and St Clairsville Posts. He also served on the Barnesville Police Force prior to be accepted into the 32nd class at the State Patrol Academy in 1952. He was a member of the Barnesville First United Methodist Church. Al and his wife Jo were the founders of the Barnesville 3C's Cancer Support Group.

He was preceded in death by his brother and sisters.

He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Jo Ann (Bennett) Mott and several nieces and nephews.

There will be no visitation. A Celebration of Al's Life will be held at a later date with Rev. Tom Detling officiating.         Linda K. Moulton, 60, of St. Paul died Thursday, Oct. 1, 2009, at Kindred Hospital in Greenwood.

        Born Sept. 2, 1949, in Shelbyville, she was the daughter of Walt and Pat (Cherry) Siefert. She married Tom E. Moulton Jr. on April 8, 2001, and he survives.

        Other survivors include her sons, Charles W. Popplewell of Shelbyville and Mike Hackworth of Fairland; daughter, Tonya L. Hopper of Chesterfield; brother, Wade Siefert of Shelbyville; sisters, Penny Gunkel of Montana and Theresa Elamon of Fairland; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

        She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Wally Siefert; and a granddaughter.

        Mrs. Moulton was a lifelong resident of the Shelby County area.

        She had been a receiving clerk at Walmart for four years.

        Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at Glenn E. George Funeral Home, 106 E. Franklin St. in St. Paul.

        Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jim Stephens officiating.

        Burial will be in Rossburg Cemetery in New Point.

MOZENA, Joseph Francis "Moe," 91, of Orchard Lane, St. Clairsville, Ohio, formerly of Piedmont Lake, died Wednesday, October 22, 2008, in Wheeling Hospital.

He was born August 27, 1917 in Hannibal, Ohio, a son of the late Joseph Franklin Mozena and Myrtle Isabelle Suter Mozena.

Moe was a loving husband and father; a retired employee of Wheeling Machine Products; a member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church; Ohio Lodge No. 1 AF&AM; Hazen Lodge No. 251 F&AM; and the Ohio Society of the Son's of the American Revolution Ebenezer Zane Chapter. He enjoyed golfing, woodworking, and genealogy.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Sue Sweeny; and a brother, Harold B. Mozena.

Surviving are his wife, Merle Catherine Henthorn Mozena; two children, Donna (Jim) Lallone and Mike (Becky) Mozena, both of St. Clairsville; six grandchildren, Todd Sweeny, Chris (Gina) Bryan, Marty (Monica) Sweeny, Cody (Allison Conklin) Mozena, Ashley and David Lallone; great grandchildren,
Brandon, Brittany, Brooke, Tori, Adrianne, and Jayden Bryan, Coren and Cooper Sweeny; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville on Friday from 4-8 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Jerry Wenger officiating. NEISWONGER, Rodney Wilson, 67, of Beallsville, died Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at his home.

He was born April 12, 1942 in Canton, Ohio, the son of the late Wilson and Gladys Decker Neiswonger. Rodney was a former employee of ORMET Corporation; a retired rural mail carrier for the US Postal Service, and a US Navy veteran.

He was a member of the Beallsville Church of Christ; the Beallsville Breakfast Club, and the National Imperial Glass Collectors Society.

Rodney was an avid reader and chess player.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Chuck McDougal.

Surviving are his wife of 42 years, Shirley McDougal Neiswonger; three children, Tara RodAnne Neiswonger of Gahanna, Tye Wilson (Tami) Neiswonger, and Tate Franklin Neiswonger, both of Beallsville; a granddaughter, Madison Paige Neiswonger and his mother-in-law, Gladys Hendershot McDougal, also of Beallsville.

Noll, Charles H., 64, of State Route 7, Sardis, Ohio, formerly of Wheeling, WV, passed away Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at Wheeling Hospital, Wheeling, WV.

He was born November 22, 1944 in Wheeling, the son of the late Robert and Eleanor Schultz Noll.

He was retired from Blue Cross/Blue Shield in Wheeling and from Ormet Corporation in Hannibal, Ohio, and was currently working for Dandy Services as a truck driver.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James Noll.

Survivors include his wife, Delilah Brown Noll, whom he married November 28, 1975; a daughter, Abigail (Scott) Tennant of Hundred, WV; a son, Brian Noll of Northborough, Mass; two grandchildren, Katelyn and Leah Tennant, and will be missing the birth of his third grandchild; and a niece, Christina (Jay) Binger of Adena, Ohio.

CHARLES 'CHUCK' NOVAK:  1929-2009

Improved    Safety    In    The    Nuclear,    Petroleum    Fields

        Charles "Chuck" Novak, who played an international role in improving safety standards within the nuclear and petroleum fields, died Tuesday, Dec. 15, surrounded by family in his Oak Brook home, his daughter said.

        Mr. Novak, 80, was born in Chicago and served in the U.S. Coast Guard during the Korean War.

        He graduated from the University of Tulsa with a degree in engineering, which led to a career in the petroleum and nuclear industries, said his daughter, Carrie. Mr. Novak's first job was in Denver, but he moved back to Chicago not long after.

        In 1957, Mr. Novak married his wife, Norma, after pursuing her for about a year. The two met at a Presbyterian church event in Green Lake, Wis.

        "He always knew what he wanted and got it," his daughter said jokingly.

        Professionally, Mr. Novak became known for his involvement in building nuclear power plants and cable bridges, particularly in his efforts in anti-rusting technology, said his son, Craig.

        Mr. Novak also helped develop the diesel fuel calibration fluid standard for measuring the thickness of diesel fuel.

        Mr. Novak's career allowed him to travel to Europe, Asia and South America, often accompanied by his wife. He also loved to travel for leisure, his son said.

        Once word of Mr. Novak's death was announced, the family received letters from customers all over the world, his son said.

        "He was a very principled man," he said of his dad's integrity with his customers.

        Mr. Novak was a member of the Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers, formerly known as the American Society of Lubrication Engineers; the Association of Diesel Specialists and the Post-Tensioning Institute.

        Other interests included hiking, swimming in the ocean and exploring nature, passions that inspired his children to be more adventurous.

        Mr. Novak also is survived by his wife and two grandchildren.

        A service will be held at 11 a.m. Jan. 8 in Christ Church of Oak Brook.

Michael F. Ogden, 57 of Woodsfield, Ohio passed away Sunday July 12, 2009 following a brief illness. He was born April 7, 1952 in Woodsfield to the late John D. Ogden and Elizabeth McElfresh Ogden of Woodsfield.

Michael was a 1971 graduate of Woodsfield High School and remained active in the Woodsfield Alumni Choir. Preceding him in death were his father, paternal, and maternal grandparents.

Surviving in addition to his mother are his brothers and sisters; John D. Ogden, Nanciliee McCormack, Richard (Barb) Ogden, Pat Bobkovich, Gregg (Francene) Ogden, Kirk (Renee) Ogden, Beth (Jim) Ayers, Bill (Cissy) Ogden, Kris (Darrell) Scott, Suellen (Greg) Dutkuliak, Kerri (Jerry) Stollar, Andrew (Billie) Ogden.

Michael moved away from Woodsfield and resided in the Washington D.C. area for many years. He returned to Woodsfield in 1999 and at the time of his death was working as a licensed nurse at the Monroe County Care Center.

Michael was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church of Woodsfield and a member of ASSCME Local 3401. He will be sadly missed by his beloved niece Staci Ogden and many nieces and nephews.

Michael also left behind his loving dog companions, Bubba and Beau and an assortment of rescued cats.

Michaels many, family, friends and loved ones will honor him with a “Celebration of Life Ceremony” at 11:00 a.m. Saturday July 25th at the Woodsfield United Methodist Church.

She worked for the former LGAM Manufacturing in Woodsfield, Ohio. Sylvia was a member of the West Union Church of Christ, member of the American Legion Auxiliary New Martinsville, and the VFW Sistersville, WV.

Preceded in death by her first husband: Herman Beckett – 1961, second husband: Everett O’Neil – 1992. 4 brothers, and 4 sisters.

She is survived by 1 daughter: Doris (Bob) Cornell – Sardis, Ohio, 1 son: Herman (Phyllis) Beckett – Wadsworth, Ohio, 1 sister: Opal Bristol – Sherrard, WV, 3 grandchildren: Bobby (Renee) Cornell – Shinnston, WV, Sherry (Kevin) Hall – Reader, WV, and Ryan Beckett – Wadsworth, Ohio. 5 great grandchildren: Spenser, Ethan, and Megan Cornell, Ashton and Jakeb Hall.

He was a retired Lineman from Ohio Power Company in Bellaire, Ohio. He was a member of the Lincoln Avenue United Methodist Church, Shadyside, the Masonic Lodge 724 F& AM, Shadyside, 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Valley of Steubenville, Order of Eastern Star Chapter 581 Shadyside, American Legion Post 52 of Bellaire, a retired member of the Shadyside Volunteer Fire Department and a World War II Army veteran serving in Italy and the South Pacific.

Preceding him in death was a daughter, Saundra Owens Abanathie.

Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Dorothy "Sue" Helms Owens; two sons, Robert (Earlene) Owens of Woodsfield, Ohio and Don Kevin (Michele) Owens of Pickerington, Ohio, a sister, Lois Teegardin of Englewood, Fla.; five grandchildren; Ericka R.         FARMINGTON - Pattie Oxford, born Patricia Ann Shepard to Guy and Thelma Shepard on Feb. 17, 1949, passed away peacefully on Dec. 26, 2009, after a long battle with leukemia. She was a resident of Farmington.

        Pattie, also known as "Pat Ann" by family and old friends, was a devoted mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. She worked at J.B. Hunt Transport for 22 years where her co-workers enjoyed her quick wit, infectious smile and resounding laugh. A tough and tender patriot, Pattie worked hard, played hard and loved her family, her friends, her work, and her country.

        Pattie is survived by son-in-law and daughter, Jon and Cecily Poulsom of Fayetteville; daughter and son-in-law, Steven and Kristen Schmitt of Fayetteville; stepfather and mother, Dr. Tom B. and Thelma Watson of Lavaca; sister, Sharon Cashmore of Bentonville; grandchildren, Karina Hunt, Thomas Poulsom, Carly Poulsom, Zane Michael Schmitt and Crosby Schmitt all of Fayetteville; nephew, William Allred of Fayetteville; and niece, Britainee Cashmore of Bentonville.

Rev. Noah John Oxley, Jr., 73 years of age, of Sheffield Lake, Ohio formerly of Woodsfield and Amherst, Ohio was called home on Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at the Cleveland Clinic surrounded by his family.

He was born September 24, 1935 in Dillonvale, Ohio where he was raised. Noah earned his Bachelors Degree after attending Washington Bible School, Ohio University, Gannon College in Pennsylvania, and finally the School of Divinity in Evanston, Illinois. He has served the Lord in Coshocton, Chandlersville, Conneaut, Bristolville, Amherst, and Woodsfield all in Ohio. After his retirement, he made his home in Lorain and Woodsfield residing in Sheffield Lake for the last two years.

Noah served in the United States Marine Corp. during the Korean Conflict. He retired after thirty-three years in the ministry from Amherst Old Stone United Methodist Church in 1998. After his retirement, he carried out a partime call at the Clarksfield United Methodist Church. His hobbies included fishing and hunting and watching professional sports, especially baseball and football.

Survivors include his loving wife of forty-nine years Betty Fern Oxley (nee: Hill); his sons Noah John Oxley, III and Mark Oxley, both of Woodsfield, Ohio, and Nathan Oxley and his wife Cindy of Sheffield Lake; his daughters Angela Baron of Huron, Ohio and Teresa Stull of Ludowici, Georgia; thirteen grandchildren; his sister Maryanne Oddo of Akron, Ohio; and his half sister Karen Butler of Rayland, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his parents Noah John, Sr. and Anna Martin Oxley (nee: Proger); his brother Benjamin Eugene Oxley; and his half sister Eva.

        Gary Edson Parker, age 63, a resident of Wheaton, peacefully passed away after a courageous battle with cancer, on Wednesday, July 29th, 2009 at Delnor Community Hospital in Geneva, IL. He was born April 11th, 1946 in Chillicothe, OH. Gary was a graduate of New Mexico State University where he was a member of Sigma Chi. He was a Senior Environmental Engineer for de Maximis. Gary loved golf, reading, traveling, going to Galena, but most of all spending time with his family and playing with his grandkids.

        He was a loving husband for 35 years to Catherine; a devoted father to Alicia and Ted Skodol of Wheaton; proud "Papa" to Dylan and Alexa; beloved son to Helen, nee Thomas, and the late Edson Parker; loyal brother to twin Larry (Brenda) and Janet (Dick) Harper; cherished son-in-law to Gene and Linda Ott and Jo Ott; caring brother-in-law to Chris (Sandy) Ott and the late Cynthia Ott Askew; uncle to many nieces and nephews; and dear friend to many.

        ALBANY — Helen F. Parker, 85, of Albany, passed away Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009, at Hooverwood Nursing Home, Indianapolis, Ind.

        Born Feb. 25, 1924, in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Myrtle Mendenhall Thomas. She was a homemaker.

        She is survived by children Larry (Brenda) Parker of Knoxville, Tenn., Janet (Dick) Harper of Carmel, Ind., a daughter-in-law, Catherine Parker of Chicago; grandchildren Alicia Skodol, Parker Harper, Laura Parker, and Kristin Reddick; great-grandchildren Dylan and Alexis Skodol, and Addie Reddick; and a brother, Harley Thomas of Chillicothe.

        In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edson T. Parker; son Gary Parker; granddaughter Carol Janene Parker; a sister, Opal Colburn; and brothers Lloyd and Paul Thomas.

Judith Ann Parks, 67, of Marietta died on Friday (Feb. 27, 2009) at Marietta Memorial Hospital. She was born on Jan. 20, 1942, in Marietta the daughter of John G. and Helen Beaver Bauer.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. She graduated from St. Mary's Catholic High School in Marietta and attended the Columbus Beauty School in Columbus, Ohio.

She is survived by her husband, Leonard Deane Parks, whom she married on Jan. 25, 1969; one son, Scott Parks (Diana); and grandchildren, Barry Douglas and Mariah Kay Parks of Marietta. Also surviving is one sister, Joyce Henry (Robert) of Baton Rouge, La.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

        Chyrl L. Pence, 54, of Millwood died Sunday, March 8, 2009, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital in Parkersburg.

        She was born October 17, 1954, a daughter of Harvey Elam Dillon and Velma Morgan.

        She was a housewife who loved flowers, enjoyed campling and fishing, and was a special grandma.

        She is survived by her husband, Lawrence Pence, of Millwood; son Timothy Ryan Dillon and Connie Rainwater of Ravenswood; daughters Tiffini Santee and husband Michael of Silverton, Shannon Pence and Mike Henry of Millwood, and Trinity Jewell of Millwood; brother Ed Dillon of Sandyville; sisters Ila Petty and Christine Lane, both of Sandyville, Gail Dillon of Ravenswood, Barb Slusher of Parkersburg, Lillian Hoschar of Alaska and Audrey Fisher of Ravenswood; six grandchildren; special niece Tina Slusher; and several nieces and nephews.

        In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by grandchildren Brianna Santee and Emily Jewell, three sisters and two brothers.

        Funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 11, at 2:00 p.m. at Roush Funeral Home in Ravenswood with Minister John White officiating. Burial will follow at Independence Cemetery in Sandyville. Friends may visit the family at the funeral home on Tuesday, March 10, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

        Roy Lee Perryman, 71, of Lebanon, died Monday morning, Nov. 2, 2009, at Christian Health Care South in Lebanon.

        He was born April 10, 1938, at Niangua, Mo. to James Monroe and Lou Ada Todd Perryman, who preceded him in death. He also was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Tia Marie Perryman and a brother, Clarence Perryman.

        He drove a school bus for 17 years and also had worked for Tracker Marine for a few years.

        He was a member of Lynchburg Baptist Church.

        Survivors include his wife, Linda, of the home; a daughter, Brenda Shaffer and her husband, Ed, of Lebanon; two sons, Ricky Perryman and his wife, Sherry and Jerry Perryman and his wife, Samanytha, all of Lebanon; seven grandchildren, Raquel, Zachary, Cody, Cory and Katana Perryman, Amy Moreau and Adam Shaffer; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Charles W. Perryman and his wife, Shirley, and Clifford W. Perryman and his wife, Sadie, all of Conway; three sisters, Mary Dinwiddie and her husband, Darrell and Jessie Dinwiddie, all of Conway, and Annie Young, of Niangua; also several nieces and nephews.

        Services for Roy Lee Perryman will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009, in the Holman-Howe Funeral Home with the Rev. Fred C. Lawley, Jr. officiating.

        Burial will be in the Lynchburg Cemetery at Lynchburg, under the direction of Holman Howe Funeral Home of Lebanon.

He was a retired coal miner from Powhatan 1 Mine, a WWII Army veteran, a Protestant by faith, a member of VFW, and UMWA District 6 in Shadyside.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Martha Dean Persinger, three brothers Hugh Persinger, Harvey Persinger, and Lawrence Persinger, Jr., two great-grandsons Garvin and Garrett Persinger.

Survivors include two sons Earl Thomas (Glenna) Persinger of Harrisburg, NC, Randy Persinger of Hilliard, FL, two daughters Gloria Jean (David) Collins of Fly, OH, Connie Sue Longwell of Clarington, two sisters Helen Wolffe of Marysville, WA, Kathryn Yingling of Clarington, seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9pm at Grisell Funeral Home, 125 Clarinda Drive, Clarington, where funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11:00am with Pastor Curt Smith officiating and American Legion Post 760 conducting military services.

        HAROLD E. "Red" PETTIT, age 78 of Magnolia, went to be with our Lord on March 12, 2009. Born in New Lexington, Ohio, to Homer and Pearl Pettit.

        Harold was baptized and raised in the Methodist Church, attending Nelson High School in Ohio as well as Haram University in Ohio and the University of Houston. Harold was a long-time employee of Dealers Electrical Supply in Houston. Harold was a member of the Arcana Masonic Lodge #272 Crestline, Ohio, serving as Past Master and also attending Living Waters Assembly of God in Magnolia the past several years.

        Harold was preceded in death by his parents as well as a son, Dennis Lowther. Survived by wife, Eileen; children; Robert Pettit and wife Frances; Larry Pettit: William Pettit and wife Shirleen; Joseph Lowther; Jeffrey Stutler; Valerie Evers and husband Lloyd; Susan Camper and husband, Roddy.    Thirteen grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, two siblings and numerous other special relatives and friends survive Harold.

Hazel was a homemaker and a former co-owner of the Ashland Fuel Distribution/Woodsfield Bottle Gas, Woodsfield, Ohio; a lifetime member of the St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Woodsfield, Ohio; member of the Order of Eastern Star #268, Woodsfield, Ohio. She enjoyed bird watching, reading, cooking, flower gardening and her cats, Ralph, Tommy, Tiny but most importantly her family.

Surviving are her husband, Raymond E. Petty whom she married on November 27, 1960; two daughters: Kimberly (Carl F.) Whitacre of Graysville, Ohio and Krista (Michael) Mann of Springfield, Virginia; three brothers: Charles (Rosalie) Christman of Woodsfield, Ohio, Paul R.        Ethel M. Piatt, 95, formerly of Graysville, Ohio went home to be with the Lord Saturday January 24, 2009 at the Heartland of Marietta Nursing Home, Marietta, Ohio.  She was born at Graysville, Ohio on November 30, 1913 a daughter of the late Aaron and Martha Cline Smith.

Ethel was a retired demonstrator for Stanley Home Products with 42 years of service; a member of the Graysville United Methodist Church, Graysville, Ohio; a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Masterton Chapter #584 and a former member of the Graysville Grange #2681.

       In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Everett Piatt on August 28, 1977; two sons, Victor Piatt and Melvin Piatt; two sisters, Mary Cline and Gladys Highman; two grandsons, Gary Watters and Terry McConnell and a son-in-law, Jimmy Berga.

       Surviving are three daughters: Eleanor Jennings of Cambridge, Ohio, Faye Berga of New Matamoras, Ohio and Carol (Gary Dean) McConnell of Lowell, Ohio; two sons: Richard (Alice) Piatt of Graysville, Ohio and Heber (Linda) Piatt of Graysville, Ohio; 17 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Mary H. Pollock, 89, of the Monroe County Care Center, Woodsfield, Ohio died Friday, July 31, 2009 at the center.

She was born February 10, 1920 in Londonderry, Ohio a daughter of the late Grant and Jessie Book Holcomb.

Mary was a retired bookkeeper for the Tampa Osteopathic Hospital, Tampa, Florida and a member of the Belleview Christian Church, Belleview, Florida.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles R. Pollock on October 8, 1966; three brothers, Luther, Robert and Leonard Holcomb; four sisters, Gertrude Hill, Lena Holcomb, Julia Climer and Nora Taylor.

Surviving are several nieces and nephews, including nephew Bruce (Kathy) Climer of Jerusalem, Ohio.

There will be no visitation or services. Inurnment will be held at the convenience of the family in the Londonderry Cemetery, Londonderry, Ohio.

BEVERLY - Mary L. Pool, 75, of Fair Avenue, died at 8:52 a.m. Friday (April 17, 2009) at Marietta Memorial Hospital.

She was born on Oct. 25, 1932, in New Matamoras to Harold "Doc" and Marie West Farnsworth.

She was a homemaker and had been a postal clerk in Beverly and worked as a library assistant at Beverly Elementary School for many years.

She graduated from New Matamoras High School.

She was a member of the Beverly United Methodist Church, the Red Hatters, and was a former member of the Lioness Club in Beverly.

On Aug. 22, 1954, she married Duane Pool, who survives.

Other survivors include a son, James (Lyndell) Pool of Beverly; a daughter, Marilyn (Richard) Krigbaum of Reynoldsburg; a granddaughter, Mary Katherine "Katie" Krigbaum of Reynoldsburg; a brother, Robert (Betty) Farnsworth of Sardis; a sister, Pearl (Paul) Heddleson of Cumberland; a brother-in-law, Richard Burchett of Stockport; and a sister-in-law, Vivian Farnsworth, of Beverly.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Franklin Delano Farnsworth, and a sister, Connie Burchett.

        He was born Dec. 18, 1949, to Roy Everett and Grace Kinkade Porter.

        On April 1, 1971, he married Judith Ann Ruble.

        He worked throughout his life as a tree trimmer.

        He was of the Pentecostal faith.

       Robert W. Porter was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Patricia Porter.

        He is survived by his wife, Judith, of the home; a son, Robert E. Porter, of Lebanon; two daughters, Suzzan Chappie and her husband, Kip, of Phillipsburg, and Martha Porter of Lebanon; five brothers, Kenneth, Sherman, Jim and Dave Porter, all of Lebanon, and Bill Porter of Charleston, Tenn.; a sister, Wilma Bowling of Lebanon; three grandchildren, Krystal, Patricia and Allen; and several nieces and nephews.

        Robert Wayne Porter, son of Roy Everett and Grace E. Kinkade Porter, was born December 18, 1949, near Niangua, Missouri. He departed this life Friday, May 15, 2009, in his home, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of fifty-nine years, four months, and twenty-seven days. On April 1, 1971, he was united in marriage to Judith Ann Ruble, and to this union three daughters and one son were born.

        He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Patricia Porter; two brothers, Ras and Roy Porter; and a sister, Freda Berry. Robert is survived by his wife, Judith, of the home; two daughters, Suzzann Chappie, and her husband, Kip, of Phillipsburg, Missouri, and Martha Porter, of Lebanon, Missouri; a son, Robert E. Porter, of Lebanon, Missouri; three grandchildren, Krystal, Patricia, and Allen; five brothers, Kenneth, Sherman, Jim and Dave Porter, all of Lebanon, Missouri, and Bill Porter, of Charleston, Tennessee; a sister, Wilma Bowling, of Lebanon, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.

        He was born and raised in the Lebanon area and attended Lebanon Schools. After he and Judith were married, they made their home in Lebanon and lovingly raised their family. Robert worked as a tree trimmer for many years until becoming disabled. Robert followed the Pentecostal faith throughout his life. He sang in a gospel group with his brothers called “Brothers Three” for several years. In his spare time he enjoyed being outdoors where his favorite activities were fishing and hunting as long as he was able. His family was very important to him and he especially enjoyed his grandchildren. Robert was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and will treasure the memories he made for his family and friends.

        Services will be held at 7:00 pm on Monday May 18, 2009 at the Holman-Howe Funeral Home. Burial will be in Bear Thicket Cemetery. Potts, Mary Ann (Wilt), age 83, of Partridge Drive, New Martinsville, WV and most recently of The Sistersville Center died Sunday, July 5, 2009 at Wetzel County Hospital, New Martinsville, WV.

She was born July 22, 1925 in Wetzel County the daughter of the late Guy and Mary Turley Wilt.

She was a member of the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ, New Martinsville.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, Thomas L. Potts; a brother, Richard “Bud” Wilt and two sisters, Matilda Henry and Pauline Rawe.

Survivors include three daughters, Mary (Danny) Mahurin, Fawn (Jim) Price all of New Martinsville, and Amy (Michael) Boyle of Louisville, KY; a son, Thomas Lee (Sandra) Potts of Houston, TX; 9 grandchildren, Jennifer (Mark) Wood, Jeffrey (Kelly) Mahurin, Jeremy (Carrie) Potts, Tommy (Kristie) Potts, Kristofer Potts, Jacquelyn (Merl) Venters, Brittany Ann Boyle, Abigail Lynn Boyle, and Zachary Michael Boyle; 12 great grandchildren; a brother Joseph Wilt of Ashland, OH; a sister-in-law, Martha (Melvin) Moser of New Martinsville; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 11am at Emma Grove Cemetery, Hannibal, OH with Pastor Bob Brooks officiating.

        MILLERSBURG -- Barbara A. Price, 72, beloved mother, sister and grandmother of Millersburg, left her worldly cares and troubles behind and passed through heaven's gate on Friday, Jan. 23, 2009, after an extended illness.

        She was born Oct. 17, 1936, in Shreve to Charles and Mary (Fishburn) Young, and married Paul Price. He preceded her in death.

        She raised her children in the Lakeville area, moved to Loudonville and then eventually to Millersburg.

        Prior to retirement Barb had worked for Castle Nursing Homes and Loudonville Rest Home. A nature lover, she enjoyed watching wildlife and sharing the wonders of the outdoors. She had been a bowler, a lifelong fan of the Cleveland Indians, loved working jigsaw puzzles and playing bingo. Nothing meant more to Barb then spending time with her family and grandchildren.

        Barb will be sadly missed by her devoted and loving daughters, Deborah (Tom) Patton of Loudonville, Brenda Norris and Donna (Kirby) Crane, both of Millersburg; a brother, Gerald (Garnet) Young and a sister, Betty (Barry) Phillips, both of Wooster. Grandchildren left with loving memories are Matthew Deitrich, Mitchell Deitrich, Heather Laurie, Justin Haudenschild, Hale Moniger* and Hunter Crane; great-grandchildren, Jadalena Mcie, Ashton Deitrich, Isabella, Gabriel, Grace, Rose and Maggie Laurie. Also surviving are stepchildren, Beverly (Ron) Mairs of California, Charles (Deb) Price of Columbus and Helen (Danny) Britenbucher** of Nashville; a number of step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren; special nieces and nephews, Rodney (Brenda) Young, Bradley Young, Sherry (Dave) Byler and Diane (Lee) Crider; and extended family and friends, including those at Majora Lane.

        In addition to her husband, Barb was preceded in death by her parents; by loved and loving son-in-law, Richard Norris; grandchildren, Michelle and Timothy Wigton; and a niece, Cindy Stauffer.

        Services will be Tuesday, Jan. 27, at noon at Alexander Funeral Home, Millersburg, where friends may call one hour prior to the services.

        The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks for the wonderful care given to Barb at Majora Lane.

        Born January 24, 1957 in Lansing, MI the son of Rex and Shirley (James) Price passed away on Monday, January 5, 2009 at the age of 51.

       Kim was a talented musician whom [sic--who] played all over the state of Michigan with various bands, playing at both weddings and clubs.  He worked as a self-employed painter.

        Surviving are his mother, Shirley Price; sisters, Kerry Thornton and her fiance Denny Schmitt and Shawn (Jeff) Pratt along with nieces and nephews; Trent, Taryn, Jacob and Jenna.  Kim was preceded in death by his father, Rex Price.

        A celebration of Kim's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 17, 2009 at 2710 Pine Tree Road in Holt.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Kim's memory may be made to McLaren Visiting Nurse and Hospice Services.  Arrangements by the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel.

       James, William “Bill” Prickett, Sr. 77, died Dec. 30, 2008 from an aneurysm. He was born June 1, 1931, in Clarksburg, W. Va., a son of the late William and Flota Prickett formerly of Lewisville.

       He was formerly of Jacobsburg and moved to Florida in 1971 from Rochester, N. Y. he was a builder in the construction industry. He was an Army veteran and a member of American Legion Post 4 and the Moose Lodge. He was of the Methodist faith.

       Surviving are four daughters, Carolyn Benesh of Texarkana, Texas, Nancy Probst of Bellaire, Barbara Moore of Bellaire, Sherry Smithberger of Shadyside; three sons, James William Prickett, Jr., of Shadyside, Mark Blain Prickett of Vero Beach, Fla., Gary William Prickett of Lakeland; three step-daughters, Robin Glober of Lakeland, Fla., Kim Varnadore of Florence, Kansas, Lorre Carter of Mulberry, Fla.; seven sisters, Shirley Stimpert, Flota King, Betty Stimpert, Donna Warner, Sandra Pryor, Wanda Schumacher, Brenda Thompson; four brothers, Robert “Bobby” Pricket, Burl Prickett, Tommy Prickett, Marshal Prickett; 23 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

       In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Donna J. Prickett; and two grandchildren, Samuel Appis and Conner Jerret.

       Friends were received Jan.2 at Lakeland Funeral Home, where services were held Jan. 3, with Rev. Carolyn Benesh, Mrs. Prickett’s daughter, officiating. Burial was in Lakeland Memorial Gardens.

Paul L. Pyle, Sr., 96 of Belmont, Ohio died Thursday, June 11, 2009 at East Ohio Regional Hospital in Martins Ferry.

He was born October 30, 1912 in Bridgeport, Ohio, a son of the late Walter Pyle and Lucille Neiswanger Pyle Willison.

Paul was a retired employee of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp.’s Martins Ferry Plant, and a member of Trinity Assembly of God in Martins Ferry.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret “Marge” Wright Pyle; daughter Barbara Pyle; son, Paul L. Pyle, Jr. and his wife Nancy Jeffers Pyle; brothers, George E. Pyle, and Clarence Willison; sister, Mildred Gautschi; two grandchildren.

Surviving are two daughters, Sally Lee (Robert) Myers of Woodsfield and Beverly Lou (Ronald) Jeffers of Belmont; sisters, Dorothy Smith and Virginia Givens of Bridgeport; 8 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, 6 great great grandchildren.

        Anita M. Quiggins, 70, of Owensboro, KY died Tuesday, July 7, 2009, at Owensboro Medical Health System. She was born on February 23, 1939 in Owensboro to the late Elmer Robert and Marie Morris. She was a member of First Baptist Church. She was employed as a lunchroom worker for the Owensboro School System, as a cook for both Cornell’s Restaurant and Moonlite Bar-B-Q and was a nursery worker for 38 years for People Baptist Church.   

        She is survived by her daughter, Cindy (Mike) McComas of Owensboro; her two sons, John W. Quiggins and David (Tami) Quiggins both of Owensboro; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; her brother, Robert Elmer Morris of Frisco City, AL and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

        Services are at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 9, 2009, at James H. Davis Funeral Home Chapel in Owensboro. Burial will follow in Rosehill Cemetery in Owensboro. He was born March 30, 1924, in Morgan County, a son of the late Orville and Dorothy Barkley Ray.

He was a retired employee of ORMET Corporation, Hannibal, Ohio; a member of Corinthian Lodge 111 F&AM, Scottish Rite Valley of Cambridge; a former Malaga township trustee; and a founding member of the Switzerland of Ohio Water Board.

In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by two sons, Rick and Randy Ray.

Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Chris Roberts Ray; his children, Trudy (Roger) Lucas of Middletown, Md., Rodney (Pat) Ray of Beallsville, and Kristy Kinzy of Malaga; a daughter-in-law, Janice Ray of Beallsville; a sister, Louise Henery of Caldwell; 16 grandchildren, Stacey, Shari, Jason, Joshua, Misty, Tara, Traci, Shelly, Dawnielle, Ricky, Ryan, Tyler, Taylor, Rob, Kevin, and Neal; 21 great-grand children, and two great-great- grandchildren.

Rector, Charles W., age 78 of Royal Oak Addition, Hannibal, OH died Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at home. He was born March 3, 1930 in New Martinsville, WV the son of the late, Webster Clay and Francis “Sena” Loy Rector.

He was a Korean War Army Veteran having received 4 Bronze Stars; a retired employee from Bell Atlantic Phone Company; a member of New Martinsville United Methodist Church; Moose Lodge #931 and American Legion Post #28, New Martinsville; VFW Post #9930 Duffy, OH; he liked to golf and woodwork.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia R. Watkins Rector in 1998; three brothers, Darrell, Butch and Robert “Uke” Rector; and two sisters, Ollie Thorn and Novie Jamison.

Survivors include four sons, Charles P. Rector of Concord, NC, Jack E. Rector of Proctor, WV, James (Robbin) Rector of New Martinsville, and Joseph Rector of St. Petersburg, FL; a daughter, Carrie (Jay) Beckman of AZ; four sisters, Loma Taggart and Betty Louk, both of Canton, OH, Martha Dawson of Woodsfield, OH, and Mildred Brown of Paden City, WV; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

        OTTUMWA — Helen L. Reed, 98, formerly of 1519 Locust St., died at 11:31 p.m. Nov. 13, 2009, at Hospice House. She was born Feb. 24, 1911, in Rose Hill, Iowa, to Ira and Myrtle Kinkade Hollingsworth. She married Gail Lowe in 1928. He preceded her in death in 1947.  She married Kenneth Reed in 1949. He preceded her in death in 1993. 

        A resident of Ottumwa most of her life, she attended Sigourney High School.She worked for John Deere Ottumwa Works for 29 years, retiring in 1970.  She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, a 50-year member of Wapello White Shrine No. 4, a 50-year member of Order of the Eastern Star Ottumwa Chapter No. 112, a 50-year member of O.B. Nelson Unit No. 3 American Legion Auxiliary, a member of John Deere Retirees and TOPS Club.

        Surviving are three grandchildren, Gayle (Bill) Chew, Sandra (Kenneth) Cummings and Robert DeBurn, all of Cedar Rapids; eight great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Ruth Coble of Dubuque and a sister-in-law, Bessie Jean Hollingsworth of North English.She was preceded in death by a daughter, Frances Mae DeBurn; four sisters, Opal Parr, Ethel Hayes, Margaret Newman, Maxine Gladys Bond; four brothers, Howard, Willard, Chester and Leonard Hollingsworth.

        Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Reece Funeral Home with Rev.     Delphene Williams Reef, 94 of Dorothy Love Retirement Community, Sidney, Ohio died February 27, 2009 in the skilled nursing area at Dorothy Love. She was born on December 22, 1914 in Round Bottom, Monroe County Ohio the youngest child of George and Nina Ischy Williams.

    She spent her early life in Monroe County where she graduated from Green Rural High School in Laings in 1933. From there she attended the Ohio State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education in 1938. She began her teaching career in Monroe County where she taught at the Woodsfield High School, Green Local High School, Cameron Elementary and finally Laings Elementary. She moved with her family to Wooster, Ohio in 1964 and continued teaching 5th grade in the Wooster Local Schools until retiring in 1972.

    Preceding her in death was her husband of 53 years, Homer Reef and her only sibling, her brother Kenneth Williams.

    She is survived by 2 daughters: Ann (George) Bowland – Genoa, Ohio, Jane (Phil) Percel – Troy, Ohio, 5 grandsons: Andrew, Zachary Bowland, and Matt, Nick and Eric Percel. A service was held at the Dorothy Love Chapel to celebrate her life.

    Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday April 4, 2009 at Oaklawn Cemetery Woodsfield with Rev. Don Hitchcock officiating.         On November 28, 2009, Dave Reeher, 85, passed away. He was a retired Senior Analyst with ANSER, Inc., and served as a Second LT. in the Army Air Corps, 465th Bomb Group, 783rd Bomb Squadron in Europe, 1944-1945. He earned the Air Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters and the EAME Theater Ribbon with Battle Stars. He was also a POW. He graduated from Penn State University in 1950.

        Predeceased in 1997 by his wife of 52 years, Elizabeth DeNoon Reeher, and in 2007 by his daughter, Joel Davy. Survived by his son, Grant Reeher, of Syracuse NY, and two grandsons, Davis Reeher of Syracuse, and Jesse Davy of Carlsbad, CA.

Clarence W. Reich, 97 of Woodsfield, Ohio died January 24, 2009, at the Convalariam at Indian Run Care Center in Dublin, Ohio. He was born July 14, 1911, a son of the late William F. Reich and Lena (Siegel) Reich of Woodsfield.

He was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Woodsfield. Clarence was an active member of the community and gave of his time and talents to many organizations. He was involved in Farm Bureau for over 65 years and was inducted into the Monroe County Farm Bureau Hall of fame. He served on the Board of Directors of the Woodsfield Savings Bank for 26 years including President for 5 years. He was a Center Township trustee for 5 years, and served on the Monroe County Agricultural Society (Fair Board) for 18 years. He was on the Monroe County Soil and Water Conservation District Board for 42 years including 19 years as Chairman, and was inducted into the Ohio Soil and Water Conservation District Supervisor Hall of Fame in 2006. He was recently notified of his pending induction into the Ohio Senior Citizens Hall of Fame. Clarence was also a member of Rolling Hills Ruritan Club, Farmers and Sportsmen Club since 1936, Moose Lodge, K of P Lodge, AARP, and OPERS. Clarence absolutely loved his church, family, farming and travel.

Surviving are his daughter, Mary Elizabeth (Matt) Bartilson of Hilliard, two sons, Paul Reich and his wife Darla (Brown), of Middletown; Merle Reich, of Gahanna; one sister Eunice Greene of Massillon; five grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Melba Heft Reich in 2003, and a sister Gladys Boyd.

Friends will be received Tuesday, January 27, from 3:00 to 5:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 at the Bauer-Turner Funeral Home, Woodsfield.         Mary D. (Boling) Rhodes, 84, of Evansville, passed away Thursday, February 5, 2009, at her residence.

        Mary was a member of the VFW 1113 Auxiliary and was a very active Democrat who enjoyed flowers, gardening, reading, and talking on the phone. She was always learning new skills throughout her life, including typing, woodworking, and crafts. Mary was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, who passed along oral and ethical values to her family. She never stopped teaching and advising her children and grandchildren.

        She is survived by her companion, Charles Myers; daughter, Judy (Rhodes) Hamilton, sons, Bill Rhodes and wife, Denise, Mike Rhodes and wife, Darlene, Gary Rhodes Sr. and wife, Peggy, Barry Rhodes and wife, Kristi; grandchildren, Tina Marie Grunow, Lori Crisco of St. Louis, MO, James Lewis Allen, Josh Merick, Amy Jorgensen, Gary Richard Rhodes Jr., Theresa (Rhodes) Bassemier, Charles Phillips, Brandi Reifert, Michelle Hames; sixteen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Faye Casteel of Hartford, KY.

ROACH, Calvin J. Sr., 82, of Beallsville, Ohio, died Saturday, May 9, 2009 in Trinity East Medical Center, Steubenville.

He was born October 2, 1926, in Utica, Ohio, son of the late Virgil and Mary Applegate Roach.

Calvin was retired from North American Coal Company, Powhatan 3 mine. He was a member of Church of Christ in Ozark, Ohio; and he was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Garland and Lamar Roach; and two sisters, Gladys Saunders and Agnes Landis.

Surviving are his wife Pauline E. Belyk Roach; four children, Irene Popovich of Mercersburg, Pennsylvania, Calvin Roach Jr. of Marietta, Ohio, Ralph (Debbie) Roach of St. Clairsville and Linda (Dave) Phillips of Senecaville, Ohio; five grandchildren, Karl Sikole, Missy Loy, Chad Roach, Brad Roach and B. J. Thomas; nine great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Luther and Fred Roach.

James (JD) Robertson, age 57, of Lewisville, Ohio died Monday May 18, 2009 at his home. He was born in Barnesville, Ohio July 7, 1951 a son of the late L.D. Robertson and Lillian Mahoney Robertson.

He retired from Ormet corp. Hannibal, Ohio and was a member of the Stafford Masonic Lodge # 300.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by 1 brother: David Robertson.

Tommy Joe Robinson, age 71, of Woodsfield, Ohio died Thursday December 3, 2009 at Barnesville Hospital. He was born in Stafford, Ohio April 4, 1938 a son of the late James & Edna Dickson Robinson.

He retired from Consolidated Aluminum after 34 years of service. Tommy was a member of the Lewisville United Methodist Church, Stafford Lodge #300 F. & A. M., Osiris Shrine Temple Wheeling West Virginia where he drove the child transport van for several years, member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Cambridge, Ohio, American Legion Post #87 Woodsfield, and former President of the Belmont Monroe AFL CIO Trades and Labor Council.

He is survived by wife Sharon Bigley Clift Robinson of Woodsfield, who he married February 1, 1991,1 daughter: Denise Robinson - Woodsfield, Ohio, 1 son: Jeffrey (Sheri) Robinson - Lewisville, Ohio, 2 step-sons: Mitchell Clift - Woodsfield,

Michael Clift Cardington, Ohio, 1 sister: Barbara (Larry) Christman - Stafford, Ohio, 2 grandchildren: Colton (Bull) and Chelsea Robinson.

Preceded in death by his first wife: Marilyn Schneeberger Robinson.

ROMISH, James L. Sr., 71, of Shadyside, Ohio, died Wednesday April 8, 2009, at his home.He was born September 24, 1937, in Wheeling, W.Va., a son of the late Louis J. and Ann Romish.

Jim was a retired employee of the Ormet Corporation after 35 years of service, and a Catholic by faith.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 521 Shadyside; PAP; Snake Club, and Cave Club all of Wheeling; the Forrester's Club of Bridgeport; Lansing Sportsman's Club and the Ormet Retirees.

He was a U.S. Army Reservist.

Surviving are his wife, Beverly R. Palmer Romish; two children, Robyn Romish and James L. Romish, Jr., both of Shadyside; one brother, Louis C. (Doris) Romish; three sisters, Betty (James) Wetzel of Martins Ferry, Maryln Goletz of Barton and Sandy (Mike) Bilica of St. Clairsville; also several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received at the Bauknech-Altmeyer Funeral Homes & Crematory 3900 Central Avenue, Shadyside, OH, Saturday from 11 a.m. until time of services at 3 p.m. with Fr. Samuel R. Eric T. Rose, 29, of 107 Poplar Drive, Woodsfield, Ohio died Monday, July 13, 2009 at his home.

He was born at Marietta, Ohio on May 12, 1980 a son of Terry and Juanita Dick Rose who survive of the home.

He was a coal miner at the Century Mine near Beallsville, Ohio; a member of the Woodsfield Church of Christ, Woodsfield, Ohio and served in the U.S. Army National Guard.

Surviving in addition to his parents are his wife, Jodi Richardson Rose of Korea; one son: Tyler Rose of the home; one sister: Jessica (Zachary) Coriell of Portsmouth, Ohio; one brother: Dustin Rose of Woodsfield, Ohio; paternal grandparents: Jerry and Marie Rose of Woodsfield, Ohio; paternal great grandmother: Gladys Crum of Graysville, Ohio; several aunts, uncles and cousins also survive.

Friends will be received at the Watters Funeral Home, 37501 S.R. 78 West, Woodsfield, Ohio from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, July 15, 2009.

Friends then received from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 16, 2009 with Keith Jones officiating.

Burial will follow in the Oaklawn Cemetery, Woodsfield, Ohio.

She was a member of the Church of Christ, Laings, Ohio.

Grandchildren, Ryan (Mary Beth) Bayes; Donna Stead; Lorie (Mike) Camden; Stephanie (Cameron) Spencer; Michael (Tiffany) Roth; Travis (Morgan) Bayes; Brent (Bobbie) Roth; Jill (Monte) Zwick; Dyan Keylor and Megan Bayes.Great-Grandchildren, Madison & Mackenzie Bayes; Zak, Dakota & Micah Stead; Ashley & Emily Smithberger; Levi, Gabrielle, Chloe & Shiloh Spencer; Russell, Gage & Remington Roth; Azariah & Japeth Bayes; Justin Roth and Riley Zwick.Two sisters, Helen Starr of Woodsfield, and Alice (Vaughn) Thomas of Mount Vernon, Ohio.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by four brothers, Carroll, Rob, Ralph, and Ed Norris.

She was born near Summerfield, Ohio on January 8, 1914 a daughter of the late Josiah and Golda Morris Thomas.

She was a homemaker and was a member of the Calais Church, Calais, Ohio where she played the piano for many years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Herman B. Rubel on March 31, 2007.

Surviving are one daughter: Marlene (Marvin) Van Fossen of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; one son: Neil (Elda) Rubel of Belmont, Ohio; four grandchildren: Jeffrey (Julie) Van Fossen, Joy (Jamie) Habegger, Darrell Rubel and Eric Rubel; three great grandchildren: Jenna Habegger, Jack and Macey Van Fossen.
