Saffell, Kenneth Lee Saffell

SAFFELL, Kenneth Lee, Fire Chief, age 51, of St. Clairsville, Ohio died December 2, 2013 at home. He was born in Bellaire, Ohio on September 17, 1962, son of the late Newell C. Saffell and Deloris Marie "Irene" Neitzelt Saffell.

Kenny was an avid hunter and was devoted to protecting and serving the community through his tireless service as a Paramedic and Firefighter. He began as a member of the Glencoe V.F.D. in 1979 - 1991. Kenny was hired by the Cumberland Trail Fire District as a firefighter in August of 1990, was promoted to Lieutenant in October of 1993, he was appointed to Assistant Chief in May of 1995 where he served until his promotion to Fire Chief in January of 2012 to the present.

He was a graduate of Belmont Technical College Paramedic Program; he was a graduate of the Ohio Fire Executive Class II training from The Ohio State University; a member of Ohio Fire Chief’s Association serving on the Education Committee and Water Delivery Tac Committee and the Ohio Fire Chief’s Emergency Response Belmont County Coordinator; member of the International Association of Fire Chief’s; member of National Fire Protection Association; member of Southeast Ohio Fire Chief’s Association; a member of Belmont County Fire and Squad Officer’s Association where he served as Tanker Task Force Coordinator and Belmont County STEMI Coordinator; and was a member of St. Clairsville Sunrise Rotary Club.Kenny was preceded in death by his parents, Newell Saffell and Deloris Marie "Irene" Saffell Yoho; and uncles, Ronald and Edward Neitzelt.

He is survived by his wife, Kim Saffell; his two children, Jason (Beth) Saffell and Brittany Saffell both of St. Clairsville; two grandchildren, Savannah and Jason; two brothers, N. Edward (Roman) Saffell of Orlando, FL and James A. (Connie) Saffell of Glencoe; a nephew, Ryan; a niece, Tiffany; a special cousin, Darlene (Jack) Boston; uncle, Marvin Neitzelt; aunts, Lois Neitzelt and Julia Neitzelt; many cousins and friends.

Family and friends will be received at Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville on Saturday from 4-8 p.m. and on Sunday from 1 to 3 and 6 to 9 p.m. where services will be held Monday 1 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Bradley Call officiating. Burial will follow in Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove.

Fire Department Service, Bell ceremony, and last alarm will begin at 6 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.

Saho, Ronald Michael Saho

Ronald Michael Saho, 72, of Woodsfield, Ohio passed away Sunday, September 1, 2013 at his home.

He was born at Wheeling, West Virginia on November 6, 1940 a son of the late George Sr. and Ann Yoka Saho.

Ron was a retired coal miner for the North American Coal Co. #6 Mine, Alledonia, Ohio; a member of the Free Methodist Church (Beginning Pointe) Woodsfield, Ohio; a United States Army and Navy veteran serving during the Vietnam War with the 82nd Airborne Division and was a member of the V.F.W. Post #5303, Woodsfield, Ohio.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and was very proud of his Polish and Hungarian roots.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, George Saho; a brother-in-law Edward Kaczor; a son-in-law, Steve Toohey; and a step-son, Bryan Rice.

Surviving are his wife, Bertha Ann Canberg Saho whom he married on December 23, 1983; two sons, Eric M. (Rebecca) Saho of Elizabeth, West Virginia, and Brian (Amy) Saho of Marietta, Ohio; one step-daughter, Deborah Rice of Woodsfield, Ohio; one step-son, Robert (Kay) Bryan Rice of Columbus, Ohio; a foster daughter, Crystal Bright of Illinois; one sister, Shirley Kaczor of Bridgeport, Ohio; ten grandchildren, Chuck Landers of the home, Aubrey Harrington, Alyssa Doyle, Dan Rice, Dakota Rice, Hannah Saho, Sarah Saho, Logan Saho, Andrew Saho, and Jon Coleman; and several great grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Watters Funeral Home, 37501 S.R. 78 West, Woodsfield, Ohio from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, September 3, 2013.

Friends then received at the Beginning Pointe Church (Free Methodist Church) 795 Lewisville Rd., Woodsfield, Ohio from 10 a.m. until time of funeral services at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 4, 2013 with Pastor Greg Fish officiating. Burial will follow in the Oaklawn Cemetery, Woodsfield, Ohio with full military graveside services.

Sapp, Charles Branson Sapp, Jr.

Charles Branson Sapp Jr., age 70, of Woodsfield, Ohio passed away Monday September 9, 2013 at the Dublin Methodist Hospital Dublin, Ohio. He was born in Barberton, Ohio July 13, 1943 a son of Betty Jean Tucker of Red Springs, North Carolina, and the late Charles Sapp Sr.

He was a 40 year Employee of PPG Industries as a Chemical Operator and a U.S. Navy Veteran of the Vietnam War.

In addition to his father he was preceded in death three brothers William, David, and Richard Sapp.

In addition to his mother he is survived by his wife Karolyn Sapp of Hilliard, Ohio, two sons William (Brandy) Sapp of Clarington, and Thomas (Marci) Sapp of Louisville, Kentucky, one daughter Krysty Hoane (Brian Linker) of Hilliard, two sisters Becky (Norman) Miller, and Charlotte Sauer both of Ocala, Florida, eight grandchildren Michael, Mason, and Caitlin Sapp, Jordan and Cortny Sapp, Kaylie Hoane, Courtney and Hunter Richmond.

Friends will be received from 2– 4 p.m. Friday September 13, 2013at the Bauer-Turner Funeral Home 100 S. Paul St. Woodsfield, Ohio where Full Military Services will be held at 4 p.m. Burial will be held at Oaklawn Cemetery.

Schaffer, Eva Mae Schaffer

Eva Mae Schaffer, 85, formerly of Beallsville, died Tuesday, January 8, 2013 in Emerald Pointe Nursing & Rehab Center, Barnesville. She was born September 2, 1927 in Huntington, WV.

Eva was a retired seamstress at the former LGAM plant in Woodsfield and a member of East Sunsbury Baptist Church near Beallsville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul, on January 16, 2001; an infant daughter; a son-in-law, Bill Phillips; a grandson, and two sisters. Surviving are her children, Judy Phillips, Danny (Vickie) Schaffer, and Sheila (Jack) Groves of Beallsville and Kathy (Greg) Plumly of Barnesville; a sister, Jean Curtis; eight grandchildren, Krista, Jason, Kim, Brian, Trevor, Wes, Will, and Katie; twelve great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Thursday, January 10 from 2 to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM at the Harper Funeral Home, Beallsville. Visitation will then be held Friday, January 11 at the East Sunsbury Baptist Church near Beallsville from 10 AM until the time of the funeral service at 11 AM. Interment will follow in Beallsville Cemetery.

Eva's family requests that memorial contributions be made to ESBC Nursery Fund, Somerton UMC Building fund, or Beallsville VFD.

 

Schar, Forrest Homer Schar “Doc” DVM

Forrest “Doc” Homer Schar, DVM, age 89, of Sardis, Ohio, died Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at his home. He was born February 16, 1923 in Sardis, the son of the late Homer Ephraim and Lucille Grace Forrest Schar.

He attended several different schools in Wayne and Medina Counties, Ohio, and graduated from Westfield High School in 1941. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and before he was sent overseas he married Mary Louise Mikesell on April 1, 1944. He served in Italy during WWII for fourteen months and received a Purple Heart. Upon his return, he enrolled at Otterbein College where he took his pre-veterinary courses, and then attended Ohio State University Veterinary College from which he graduated in 1952.

He had a private veterinary practice in Belle Center, Ohio. He left that and worked for the Ohio Department of Agriculture as a state veterinarian, and moved to Bloomville, Ohio where he lived for sixteen years, and where his four children were raised.

He was a member of American Legion #434; Disabled American Veterans; and the American Veterinary Medical Association. He was a Christian and attended the United Methodist Church in Sardis.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Edward Lee Schar; two sisters, Melba Giauque and Evelyn Frary; and a daughter-in-law, Sharon Schar.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou Schar; four children, Danford Allan Schar of Newbury Park, CA, John Forrest Schar of Sardis, Evelyn Marker of Tiffin, OH and James Michael Schar of Frankfurt, Germany; a sister, Lovetta Power of Kansas City, KS; nine grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Family received friends on Jan. 25 at Grisell Funeral Home, 37234 Mound Street, Sardis, where funeral services were held on Jan. 26 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Richard Wilson officiating.

Burial followed in Mt. Olive Cemetery, Sardis, where military graveside services were conducted.

Schneider, Franklin D. Schneider

Franklin D. Schneider 75, of Woodsfield, Ohio, died Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at Ohio Valley Medical Center. He was born February 4, 1938 in Alledonia, Ohio, son of the late Edward M. Schneider and Berta V. Wade Schneider.

In his early years, Franklin spent a great deal of time with his parents. He was a retired truck driver. He had a great love for the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Franklin enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and working on special projects. He enjoyed making people laugh with his great sense of humor.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert E. Schneider and his sister, Edie M. Ruschak.

Franklin is survived by his sisters, Violet Marple of Springfield, Ohio, Wilma (Larry) West of Jerusalem, Ohio, and Mary K. (Bruce) Ady of Cambridge, Ohio; brother, Harold E. (Wilda L.) Schneider of Woodsfield, Ohio; numerous nieces and nephews, and his very special friend, Sandy Weber.

Family and friends are welcome to visit, Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Kelly Kemp Braido & Patron Funeral Home, 702 East Main Street, Barnesville, Ohio where the service will be conducted, Thursday at 1 p.m. Minister Jeff Rich will be officiating. Interment will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens, Colerain, Ohio

 

Schools, Diana Schools nee Decker

Diana Decker Schools, 69, passed away July 27, 2013 at home in Columbus, OH. She was born Oct. 9, 1943.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry B. and Rachel Reed Decker; a brother, Bernard L. Decker; and two infant sisters.

Surviving are her husband, William C. Schools; a son, William B. “Trey” (Erin) Schools; a daughter, Jennifer (Randy) Niner; four grandchildren; a sister, Marie Konrad, Canton; a brother, James Decker, Columbus; and several nieces and nephews.

She was a graduate of Beallsville High School. She then moved to Columbus where she was employed by American Electric Power for 30 years.

Graveside service will be held at noon on Aug. 10, 2013, in Beallsville.

 

Schuler, Clara Schuler nee Spears “Jackie”

Clara “Jackie” Schuler, 80, of Beallsville, formerly of Sardis, died Sunday, April 7, 2013 at Barnesville Hospital. She was born June 23, 1932 in Wheeling, WV, a daughter of the late Thomas and Delores Funk Spears.

Jackie was a retired secretary at Hannibal Elementary School. She was a member of the Monroe Singers and the Sardis United Methodist Church where she served as choir director for many years.

Surviving are a daughter, Robin (Mark) Schuler Stephen of Beallsville; a daughter-in-law, Dana Schuler of Woodsfield; five grandchildren, Jessica (Quinn) Fallon of Columbus, Todd (Cathy) Schuler of Warner Robins, GA, Stephanie (Michael) Cunningham of St. Clairsville; Madison and Morgan Stephen of Beallsville; two great grandchildren, Drew and Emily Schuler; a brother, Tom Spears.

In addition to her parents, Jackie was preceded in death by her husband, Fred “Fritz” Schuler; two sons, Terry Schuler and Tom Schuler; a daughter, Fritzie Schuler Alloway. There will be no visitation; a Celebration of Jackie’s life will be held at a later date. Scott, Verne Lee Scott

Verne Lee Scott, 73, passed away on November 14, 2013, after a courageous, 13 month battle with mesothelioma. He was surrounded by his loving wife, children, and grandchildren at the time of his passing.

Verne was born in Graysville, Ohio on May 9, 1940. He is preceded in death by his parents Richard and Gladys Hupp Scott, and his sisters, Shirley, Josephine, and Geraldine.

After graduation from Graysville High School, he and his wife, Helen, married and moved to Barberton, Ohio. Later, they moved to the Portage Lakes area where they have spent the last 16 years. Verne spent his earlier years working at PPG Industries and Goodyear, but later was a valuable support to Helen Scott Custom Builders, Inc.

Verne possessed many qualities. He was a hard worker, faithful volunteer, good neighbor, great friend, and most of all, a family man. One of his greatest attributes was his selflessness, which anybody who was fortunate enough to know him could attest to. From supporting his wife in all of her endeavors, to his membership in the Magic City Kiwanis (he was the recipient of the Walter Zeller Award and Kiwanian of the Year). He also served as a charter member on the Barberton YMCA board.

For those of us who knew Verne on a more personal level, we remember him for so much more. From his life-long love affair with food (his favorite restaurant was the Falcon), to sporting his signature look (a Tommy Bahama t-shirt and jeans). And, speaking of sports, he was a local sports enthusiast (from the Barberton Magics, to Ohio State, and the Cleveland Indians – he loved them all). He also loved Thunderbirds. Then, there were his words of wisdom, “If you want to get out of doing something, just pretend you don’t know how to do it”. He was an excellent bowler, enjoyed playing golf, and sometimes even fishing (but only when Helen could talk him into it). He loved to travel, especially in the company of good friends, and took many trips over the years. Even though he was quite fond of them, he was often outnumbered by the women in his life, from his wife, to his daughters/ granddaughters, and even his cat, Sadie. So, it is no surprise how much he cherished his grandsons. His family was the most important thing to him.

Verne is survived by his loving wife, Helen, of 54 years (even though her mom said it would never last); his devoted daughters, Patricia (husband, Brad) Rucker and Cindy (husband, Bruce) McMahon, his beloved grandchildren, Scott (wife, Kristin) Strayer, Ashley (Zach) Strayer, Kelsey Strayer, and Justin McMahon; his sister, Ima Jean, many nieces and nephews, and too many friends to list – all of whom he’s left footprints on their hearts and smiles on their faces.

Friends were received November 17, at the Barberton First Church of Christ A funeral service was held November 18, at Barberton First Church of Christ, with an additional hour of calling hours prior to the service.In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the Esther Ryan Shoe Fund at the Magic City Kiwanis or the Barberton First Church of Christ.

 

Secrest, Hilda Secrest nee Mullen

Hilda Secrest, 81, of Beallsville died Sunday, June 2, 2013 in Medical Park Hospital, Wheeling, West Virginia. She was born October 25, 1931 in Belmont County, a daughter of the late William and Jane Marie Elceser Mullen.

Hilda was a member of the East Sunsbury Baptist Church and for many years served on the Beallsville Village Council and also as a Sunsbury Twp. Poll Worker.

Surviving are her husband of 62 years, Carl Secrest; three children, Joan (Tom) Kirkland of Woodsfield, Joyce (Tim) Caldwell, and Marvin (Misty) Secrest, both of Beallsville; two brothers, Thomas (Helen) Mullen and John (Marcella) Mullen, both of Bridgeport; three sisters, Gladys (Henry) Fischer of Virginia, Margaret Hixenbaugh, and Helen Freeman, both of Florida; nine grandchildren, Courtney (Keith) Kresge, Christopher (Erica) Caldwell, Stephanie (Al) Novena, Steve (Anne) Kirkland, Bryan (Suzy) Kirkland, Sarah (Matt) Tippie, Dustin Kirkland, Stacia, and Dalton Secrest; and seven great grandchildren, Ethan, Haley, Ellie, Lucy, Claire, Carson, and Mya.

In addition to her parents, Hilda was preceded in death by three infant siblings, Catherine Lucille, Robert Eugene, and Edwin Edward Mullen, a brother, William Mullen, also by a great grandson, Nolan James Caldwell.

Visitation will be held Thursday 2 to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM at the Harper Funeral Home, Beallsville. Visitation will then be held Friday at East Sunsbury Baptist Church near Beallsville from 11 AM until the time of the funeral service at 1 PM. Burial follows in Beallsville Cemetery.

Seebach, Ruby Seebach nee Miller

Ruby Seebach, age 94 of Woodsfield, Ohio passed away Monday April 15, 2013 at the Woodsfield Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. She was born April 12, 1919 in Bridgeport, Illinois a daughter of the late John & Carol Briggs Miller.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Elmer “Shorty” Seebach.

Ruby is survived by her niece Marlene (Paul) Reischman, one great niece and four great nephews.

Seevers, Glenna M. Seevers nee Sayger

Glenna M. Seevers passed away on Saturday, August 10, 2013 after a long illness and short hospital stay requiring surgery and hospice care. Her family followed her wishes with a private viewing on Tuesday at the McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home Funeral Home and an immediate internment at East Lawn Memorial Park in Reno, Ohio.

She will meet in death her late husband Robert E. Seevers, Sr who died 6 years ago of a long fight with cancer. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Fannie Sayger also of Newport and 11 brothers and sisters.

Glenna was most proud of her stay at home mom job, her turn at coaching softball and her times working at One Hour Martinizing, The Layfayette and Christian Anchorage. When she could she enjoyed volunteering for the democrats even if it meant holding a sign up and yelling for you to honk your horn! One of her favorite memories is not only meeting but speaking to President Clinton!

She is survived by 2 of her children who love her beyond words. Son, Robert E. Seevers, Jr. (Elizabeth) of Belpre and Daughter, Brenda R. Seevers (Laura) of Pittsburgh also her loving Grandson Shawn R. Seevers (Courtney). She is also survived by her sister Bonnie Stevens (Frank) of Fly, and numbers can’t count the amount of nieces and nephews both real and in the spirit of love who considered this woman their “Aunt Nannie”.

Remembering that same spirit think of her with her hand on her hip saying “I don’t want ANYONE to see me when I’m dead. I just don’t want it.” In that spirit of love and understanding we thank you for your respect of her wishes at this time.

 

Sevy, Richard Sevy

        Richard B. Sevy was born October 31, 1933 in Peculiar, MO the son of Paul ad Goldie (Floyd) Sevy. He passed away September 30, 2013 in Bolivar, MO.

        Rich enjoyed riding his motorcycle, chocolate, pudding, country dancing, horses and his dog Katrina. He loved his wife, grandchildren and Fox News. Rich loved to laugh and make others laugh to. He lived life to the fullest. He will be missed by many and loved by all who knew him. Dorothy L. Shafer, age 65 of Caldwell, OH passed away Wednesday May 8th, 2013 at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center in Cambridge, OH. She was born February 12th, 1948 in Monroe County, OH a daughter of the late William and Anna Brown Leasure.Dorothy had a passion for country music and loved vacationing in Tennessee. She also enjoyed playing the slots and shopping on TV shopping networks. Although ongoing health issues limited her ability to visit as much as she would have liked, she had an undying love for and an enormous pride in her children and their extended families.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by 5 brothers Kenneth, Earl, Eugene, Carl and Leonard Leasure; 2 sisters Geneva Leasure and Betty Cline.

She will be loved and missed dearly by her family, husband Kenneth Shafer of the home, whom she married July 3rd, 1966; a son Kenneth (Tammy) Shafer of Lower Salem OH; daughter Marci (Allen) McCune of Delaware OH; 4 grandchildren Toni (Gabe) Morrison, Bridget (Steven) Sloter, Austin and Hunter McCune; great-granddaughter Lillian Morrison; 2 brothers Raymond (Geneva) Leasure of Caldwell, Richard Leasure of Summerfield, OH; 2 sisters Lucille (Omer) Long of Sarahsville, OH and Ruth Leasure of Caldwell. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and friends.

Private Family Services were observed at the Chandler Funeral Home, 609 West Street, Caldwell, OH 43724, with Rev. Jim Garrett officiating. Burial followed in Mt. Tabor Cemetery near Stafford, OH.

Nancy L. Shapley, 84, of New Matamoras, Ohio passed away on Sunday April 14, 2013 at the Arbors in Marietta following a brief stay. She was born on August 19, 1928 in New Matamoras, the daughter of the late Warren and Eunice McVay Berry.

She graduated from the New Matamoras High School in 1947. She was a member of the Matamoras United Methodist Church. She was a homemaker who loved to cook and enjoyed grocery shopping and spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her son Robert Shapley (Nancy Gail) of New Matamoras, Ohio. Two granddaughters Stacy Nething (Brian) of New Matamoras, Ohio; Janell Harlan (Mark) of Sardis, Ohio and one grandson Bobby Shapley (Andrea) of New Matamoras, Ohio. Eight great-grandchildren Abby, Wesley, Wyatt and Kelsey Harlan of Sardis, Ohio and Andrew and Jalynn Shapley, Hunter and Ty Nething of New Matamoras, Ohio. One sister Rose Creighton of New Matamoras, Ohio and three very "special caregivers", Monna West,Leota Beaver and Gala Beaver.

Preceding her in death was her husband George B. Shapley, two infant sons Warren and William, one sister Emogene Berry and her best friend Glenna Amos.

        In addition to his parents, Bennett is survived by his paternal grandparents, Roberta Lynn Schearer [sic--should this be SHEARER?], Connersville, and Gary and Tammy Shearer, Shelbyville; paternal great-grandparents Robert J. and Donna Johnson, Connersville; maternal grandparents Connie and Tommy Blevins, Connersville; maternal great-grandmother Betty Silvers, Connersville; brother, Brody Shearer and sister, Brynn Shearer; aunts and uncles, Bradley Shearer, Zoe Shearer, Adam Slinker, Drew Slinker, Hilary and Adam Wright, Beau Blevins, Kiane and Shane Shook, and Josh and Lori Blevins.

Sheba, Virginia M. 86, of Powhatan Point, Ohio died Friday, March 8, 2013 at Ohio Valley Medical Center Wheeling, WV. Virginia was born March 2, 1927 in Woodsfield, Ohio a daughter of the late Dorsey and Frances Steed Gray.

She attended the Powhatan Church of the Nazarene and was a Charter member of the Powhatan VFW Post 5565 Auxiliary. She was a member of the USWA and the AFL/CIO.

Preceding her in death was her husband, John Sheba in 1988, and two sisters, Edna Mae Gray and Mary C. Hill.

Surviving are three sons, Jack Hoskins of Columbus, OH, Robert (Phyllis) Hoskins of Aurora, CO and Josiah Hoskins of Shadyside, OH, three daughters, Joanne Ewing of Indianapolis, IN, Virginia (John) Voleck of Powhatan Pt. OH and Mary Beth (Carl) Tennant of Powhatan PT, OH, 14 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and her loving pet Kitty’s.

Family and friends will be received Tuesday March 12, 2013 from 2p.m.- 8p.m. at the Bauknecht-Altmeyer Funeral Homes and Crematory 186 Main Street Powhatan Point, Ohio where funeral services will be held at 1p.m. Wednesday with Pastor Matthew Collins officiating.

        Sheldon Silva passed away Sunday, March 10, 2013 at home. He was born in Wilmington, NC, and he came to Brevard county in 1957.

        He worked for General Dynamics and served in the US Army 23rd Infantry, a WWII veteran, and received a purple heart and a bronze service star. He was a member of the VFW post 4228, American legion Post 1, second Indian Head division. Sheldon devoted his life to helping fellow veterans. He was a past district commander of the VFW and the American Legion and also past president of second Indian Head Division, 23rd Infantry.

        He is survived by his daughters, Dianne Dryden and Debra West; son, Steven Silva; and brothers, Perry Blackburn and Tim Blackburn.

    She was born March 31, 1927 in Moundsville the daughter of the late Roy E. and Valta M. Bolen Richmond.

    Mary Ann was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, Moundsville and enjoyed playing cards and games with her girl friends.

    In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband: Allen “Cy” Simms; infant daughter: Teresa Lynn Simms; special daughter-in-law: Roberta Simms and two sisters: Margie Tuccio and Patricia Jo Pitner.

    Survivors include four sons: Brad (Susan) Simms of Claysville, PA, Cole Simms, Jeff Simms and Mark (Carla) Simms all of Moundsville: several grandchildren and great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

    The family will receive friends on Monday from 5-8pm and on Tuesday from 10:00am until time of service at 11:00am at the Grisell Funeral Home & Crematory, 400 Jefferson Ave., Moundsville, with Jim Bickerton officiating.

       Age 76 of Painesville, OH, passed away on February 4, 2013 at her residence. Born to Parents, Samuel Jackson and Gladys M. (Taylor) Jackson on October 2, 1936 and raised in Hartville, OH. She spent most of her life in Painesville before moving to Nashville, TN for 25 years.

        She was preceded in death by her parents; second husband, Edward O'Connor and late husband, Oliver E. Sinz, both of Nashville, TN.

        Grace is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Tami J. White (Robert Hibler) and Betty-Jo Catalano (White); grandchildren, Briana N. Catalano (Angel M. Carrero II) and Spencer P. Saso; great-grandsons, Angel L. Carrero III and Cameron Jace Carrero; brother, Warren Dale (Theresa) Jackson; life sister, Noreen (Ron) Hulteen; nieces and nephews. Grace was a "LADY" who loved her children, grandchildren, great-grandsons, caregivers (Stacey, Jessica and Katrina).

        She enjoyed traveling the world, Church Choir, Bible Study, Theatre, Vandy football games, Ballroom Dancing and outings with her Hartville High School classmates '54. She was a proud member of City Road Chapel United Methodist Church in Nashville, TN, The Eastern Stars, and Secretary and a Founding Member of the C.L.P. Girls Softball of Lake County, OH.

        A funeral service will be conducted at City Road Chapel United Methodist Church, 701 Gallatin Rd. S., Madison, TN on Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Katalin was a homemaker and a member of the former St. Joseph Catholic Church, Lewisville, Ohio where she was a member of the Catholic Womens Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Nicholas Sipos on March 28, 1994; one daughter, Katalin Reddaway; two brothers, Gregory and Tibor Temesvary; one granddaughter, Tiffany Sipos; and one grandson, Joshua Hemminger.

Surviving are one daughter, Maria (Lee) Hemminger of Davenport, Florida; one son, Nicholas A. (Teresa) Sipos of O'Fallon, Illinois; one brother, Andrew Temesvary of North Royalton, Ohio; ten grandchildren; and several great grandchildren.

He was a member of the Harvest Time Church of God and had been self employed in various occupations.

He is survived by three sons Gary Mark Henthorn (Janie) of New Matamoras, Ohio; Richard William Slonaker (Gwendolyn) of Marietta, Ohio and Brian Leroy Slonaker (Edwina) of Sardis, Ohio. One daughter Donna Marie Slonaker of Fly, Ohio; eight grandchildren and one great grandchild. Also surviving are six brothers Chester Slonaker of New Matamoras, George Slonaker of Canton, Ohio, and Jerry, Charles, Michael and Franklin Slonaker all of New Matamoras. Two sisters Crystal Slonaker and Betty Dunn both of New Matamoras, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers Richard, Robert and Harold Slonaker and two sisters Linda Dunn and Lucille Addlesburger.

Funeral services will be held on Friday January 18, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at the Hadley Funeral Home in New Matamoras. Burial will be made in Grandview Cemetery.

Jeffrey Todd Slonaker age 49,of Columbus, formerly of Clarington. Passed away on Sunday November 25, 2012 while working in Saudi Arabia. He was born in Glendale, WV on December 11, 1962. He graduated from River High School in Hannibal, OH in 1981.He is the son of Gerald Slonaker (late Myra) (nee Renner) who passed on September 15, 2008 of Little Hocking, OH, a brother Scott (Jodi) of North Canton, OH and a sister Paula Edwards (Gary) of St. Clairsville, OH.

He was the loving uncle of Jennafer, Hilary, Hanna and Madison Slonaker, Kaytlyn Lanning, Morgan, Erin and Evan Edwards.

A Graveside Service will be held at the Serenity Views Cemetery in New Martinsville, WV on Saturday April 13, 2013 at 11:00 AM. A Memorial Service will be immediately follow a the Quinets Court Restaurant in New Martinsville.

 

Smith, Charles Howard Smith

Charles Howard Smith, 85, Woodsfield, passed away at home Dec. 30, 2012. He was born in a log cabin in Rinard Mills, Ohio, on Jan. 19, 1927, the son of Everett and Waife (Cline) Smith.

He grew up on a large farm and joined the military during World War II. He was a World War II veteran and served in Italy and Sicily.

He was an electrician by trade and worked many years as an electrician before becoming a rural letter carrier. He retired from the Woodsfield Post Office in 1992. During his tenure as a postal worker, he received the million miles award for outstanding performance in driving one million miles without an accident.

He was a member of the New Martinsville Pine Street Church of Christ. He was also a part-time minister and preached in many small congregations in the area for many years. He could quote scripture from the Bible reciting chapter and verse verbatim. He was an avid reader and gifted artist. He was quiet, soft spoken, and humble about his abilities.

He survived Hodgkin’s Lymphoma at age 25 when the renowned Dr. George Crile of Cleveland Clinic performed an innovative radical surgery at the time removing 60% of his internal organs. He was left with what he called his “railroad tracks” of scars intersecting across his chest and abdomen. He received dialysis three times a week, at the New Martinsville Dialysis Center, where he became very attached to Linda and Sandy, dialysis nurses that kept him alive for the past thirteen years. Throughout more than a decade of dialysis, surgeries, procedures, and illnesses, he never complained and continued to enjoy politics, reading, and learning.

Surviving is his wife of 60 years, Grethel (Winland) Smith of Woodsfield, who cared for him during all his illnesses. He had three children – Rhonda (Larry) Koslik and Fonda (Jeff) Turner of Woodsfield and Vaughn (Angie Jones) Smith of Lawrenceville, Georgia; seven grandchildren, Kent Koslik of Anchorage, Alaska, and Kellen Koslik of Athens, Ohio; Elizabeth and Alexandra Turner, of Woodsfield, and Alexis, Rebecca and Quentin Smith of Lawrenceville, Georgia; two brothers Gene (Pearl) Smith and Kenneth (Dot) Smith of Woodsfield; and one sister Emily (Don) Hartshorn, of Woodsfield, as well as numerous nieces and nephews living in the area complete the family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Ethel Smith.

        Dorothy Ann Neuhardt Smith went to be with our Lord Jesus Christ on Saturday January 19, 2013. She was born in Spencer, West Virginia on March 3, 1915.

        Dorothy was the oldest of three children of Harry Paul Neuhardt and Mary Ann Winborne Neuhardt, both deceased. She was married to James Trammell Smith on August 14, 1939. She and Jimmy lived in Midland, Texas for almost 43 years until he died on February 6, 1982.

        Dorothy was also preceded in death by her two brothers, Harry Paul Neuhardt II and Charles Henry Neuhardt.         Surviving Dorothy are her two daughters, Gwyneth Ann Smith Bohren, and Susan Marie Smith Hardie and her husband, Thornton Hardie III; her three grandchildren and their spouses, Robert Edwin Bohren and his wife Merrill, Sarah Marie Hardie Davis and her husband Gate, and Amy Winborne Hardie Peeples and her husband, Ray; her five great grandchildren, Catherine Bohren, Eleanor and Wiley Davis and Ada and Mary Win Peeples; and her sister-in-law, Billye Neuhardt and her two daughters, Katrina and Kerry Neuhardt.

        Dorothy moved to Amarillo, Texas from Sistersville, West Virginia after 6th grade. She attended Amarillo Junior College where she was a cheerleader, and Texas Tech University from which she graduated in 1936. She then moved to Midland where she met her husband and lived until moving to Dallas in 1992. In Midland, Dorothy served in numerous volunteer roles, including terms as president of the Midland Junior League and the Midland Women's Club. She was a lifelong member of Kappa Alpha Theta and a member of the Daughters of the Confederacy. Most importantly, she loved the Lord. She was an active member at First Methodist Church in Midland, where she enjoyed being the wedding coordinator, and after her move to Dallas, at Highland Park Methodist Church, where she volunteered in the library, and later at Preston Hollow Methodist Church. She lived her Christian faith as a loving mother and grandmother, caring friend and active volunteer, including serving until she was in her early 90's as the residents' representative at Meadowstone Place in Dallas where she lived for many years. Nothing could be better for her than to spend time cooking, sewing and caring for her family and friends. Her chicken and dumplings were the best. And she expertly made every costume for her grandchildren and made, mended and altered clothing, drapes and anything else that could be sewed for anyone who asked. Dorothy was cheery and optimistic until the end. She loved her family and friends deeply and was loved by all. It was common for her family to hear from others that "Dorothy was my best friend."    

        A graveside memorial service will be held Tuesday morning at 11:00 a.m. at Sparkman Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery. The family would like to extend heartfelt appreciation to all of Dorothy's Meadowstone family and to all of the friends and staff at Caruth Haven Court who cared for her so lovingly the last few years. Hilda Phillips Smith, 89, a resident of Woodsfield Nursing and Rehab Center and formerly of Beallsville, died October 22, 2013 at the Center. She was born February 17, 1924 in Powhatan Point, Ohio, a daughter of the late Orville and Laura Hun Smith Phillips. Hilda was a member of the Pleasant Grove Methodist Church until its closing and then became a member of Jerusalem United Methodist Church. She started work at a young age and had been a hard worker all her life. She enjoyed caring for her animals and for many years she raised pigs, chickens, and milk cows.

She was united in marriage to Clayton C. Smith on April 26, 1941. She was born October 20, 1945, in England, daughter of the late Oscar and Florence Jean Ward Niswonger, and the father who raised her, Robert H. Lori. She was formerly employed by NCR in Cambridge, and she retired as a cook from the Golden Plaza in Belle Valley, where she was known for her secret cole slaw recipe. She was a member of the American Legion Auxilliary Post # 641, for which she served as past district president and past unit president. She loved bingo, reading, and visiting Amish country.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Everett F. “Pete” Smith, whom she married in March, 1978, and who died August 22, 2012; one daughter, Kimberly K. Hesson; one granddaughter, Kiera Hesson; and one brother, Robert L. Lori. Surviving are three daughters, Denise R. (Brian) Clark of Caldwell, Amanda K. Glasgow of North Carolina, and Kelly J. (Jonathan) Mika of Caldwell; two sisters, Heleanna M. (Dr. A.C.) Smith of Cincinnati, and Marguerite Boney of Summerfield; one brother-in-law, Robert C. Smith of Joliet, Illinois; 10 grandchildren, Adam, Sandi, Jordan, Sara, Megan, Kelsey, Brandon, Haylee, Emily, and Karrie; 4 great-grandchildren, Cole, Kiera, Abigail, and Silas; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was a former cashier at Witschey's Market in New Martinsville, West Virginia and was a member of the Woodsfield Christian Church, Woodsfield, Ohio. Pearl enjoyed homemaking, ceramics, crocheting, and camping.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Gladys Burnside; six brothers, Glenn, Harley, Emery, Floyd, Burton "Bud", and Frank Young.

Surviving are her husband, Ralph Gene Smith, whom she married on November 7, 1970; two daughters, Debby Burkhart of Wheeling, West Virginia, and Patricia "Trish" (Brian) Snodgrass of Newark, Ohio; one brother, Robert "Bob" (Sue) Young of Thomas, West Virginia; four grandchildren, Melissa (Lance) Nelson, Kimberly (J.B.) Burge, Megan Marie Snodgrass, and Justin Andrew Snodgrass; five great grandchildren, Joshua, Hannah, and Matthew Nelson, and Jayden and Bode Burge.

She was born April 10, 1946 in Wood County, W.Va, a daughter of the late Ira and Ruth Daugherty Toncray. She had attended Center Point Church in Little Hocking, Ohio and enjoyed sewing and gardening.

        She is survived by her daughter, Teresa Smith of Washington, W.Va.; a son, William "Bill" Smith (Tracy) of Little Hocking, Ohio; four sisters, Betty Paugh, Grace Stanley (James), and Donna Perry (Lester) all of Belpre, Ohio, and Alma Cox (Randy) of Parkersburg, W.Va.; three brothers, John Toncray (Marlene), Jack Toncray, and Jerry Toncray (Rita) all of Belpre, Ohio; two grandchildren, Ryan Lockhart and Steve Drain; and several nieces and nephews.

        In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clemith E. "Tex" Smith; and four brothers, James, Darrel, Richard, and Roger Toncray.

Tammy was a graduate of Barnesville High School and a member of the East Main Street Church of Christ.

Surviving in addition to her mother of Barnesville, are her husband, Greg Snider; four children, Ricky Taylor of Barnesville, Gregory Snider and Renee Snider, both of Follansbee, and Jason Lanch of Martins Ferry; a sister, Bobbie Jo (Terry) Roth of Reynoldsburg; her grandmother, Eileen Wells, of Barnesville; three grandchildren, Erika, Brian, and Andrew Snider; a nephew, L. T. Roth; several aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Visitation will be Monday from 5 PM to 8 PM at the Harper Funeral Home, Beallsville where funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 AM.

        Marianne Kathryn Snyder, 90, of Kingston, passed away Sunday, June 30, 2013, at her home.

        She was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Glenna Roddy; sister, Martha Lyons; brother, Richard Roddy; and her husband, William Kenneth Snyder, all of Dayton, Ohio.

        She is survived by her daughter, Sheri and husband Ed Ziobro, Kingston; daughter, Pamela and husband Edwin Ross, Santa Clarita, Calif.; grandchildren, Stuart and wife Cari, Torrance, Calif., Sarah and husband Michael Webster, Santa Clarita, and Steven Ross, Long Beach, Calif.; great-grandchildren, Stu and Holly Ross, Torrance, Abigail, Emily and Andrew Webster, Santa Clarita.

        She was self-employed and owned Capital Dry Cleaners in Dayton, Ohio, and moved to Kingston with her husband, Bill, in 1996. They both volunteered with the local election commission and enjoyed their time living in their log home in Kingston. She was a avid quilter and enjoyed her skills at gardening. She truly had a green thumb and enjoyed starting small plants in her home.

       She and her husband were lifelong members of the Shriners and the Eastern Star. Both were very active and very charitable to their respective organizations.

       She donated her remains to the University of Tennessee, Memphis for, scientific research and study. There will be no viewing or services at this time.

Herman Spangler, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend and neighbor passed on to his eternal reward Friday morning, April 12, 2013. He was born, June 4, 1913 in Burkhart, Monroe County, to the late Theodore and Philomena (Kuhn) Spangler.

He married Stella (Schumacher) on June 27, 1939 in St. Sylvester’s Church, Woodsfield. In 1941, he began working as line inspector at Timken Roller Bearing Co. in Canton. He later established Spangler Insurance and Real Estate Agency in 1955.

Herman was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church in North Canton where he participated in the initial Christ Renews His Parish and various service groups. He was a former member of St. Peter’s in Canton and the Canton Real Estate Board.

He is survived by his children, grandchildren and great-children. They include: his daughter, Sister Mary Ann Spangler, HM; son, Dr. Robert T. (Donna); Anna (Brian) Finigan [Brody and Parker]; Dr. Theodore (Kalpa) Spangler [Nyla and Nathan]; Laura (Dr. Michael) Mead [Molly, Ben, Jack, and Emma]; Michael Spangler; Daisy (Brandon) Hutchison; Katherine Spangler; and Lisa Christine Spangler. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law Joan (Snyder) Spangler; Sandra (Mark) O’Connor [Elizabeth and Amber]; Paul (Bonnie) Spangler [Robyn and Amanda]; Sharon (Tom) Perko [Christine and Erika]; and Linda (Eric) Hammonds [Alex and James].

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Stella; his son, Paul; and his brothers, Carl, Lawrence, Clarence, Roman and John.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Paul Catholic Church, North Canton, on April 15, with burial in Calvary Cemetery.

        PARSONS - Spear, Ralph Henry, of Lee's Summit, Mo, (formerly of Parsons, Kansas), born July 25, 1936, died March 22, 2013.

        He was the son of Thelma (Taylor) and Alfred Spear, the second of five children, and grew up in Parsons, Kansas. In 1959, he married Marjean Basore, of Wichita, and they raised their family in Parsons and Lee's Summit, Missouri.

        He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjean, his parents, and his older brother, DeWitt, of North Carolina.

        He is survived by his daughter, Tracey Casey (Lee), of Isle of Wight County, Virginia; his son, Deric Spear (Penny), of Blue Springs, Missouri; five grandchildren: Joshua Casey (Hiliary), Meghan Casey, Kristyn Spear, Jordan Abbiatti, and Keaton Spear; his brothers, Daryl Spear (Sandy) and Gary Spear (Pat); sister, ErnaDee Rogers (Carl), and fiance, Roberta Jaggars.

        Dad lived his life as an opportunity. He never let a chance go by to tell a loved one how he felt or missed a chance to spread the word of God. He was a devoted Christian, family and outdoors man, going hunting and fishing at any chance. He was an avid photographer and has used this hobby to capture his outdoor adventures and misadventures and his children's and grandchildren's lives. Dad took great pride in watching his grandchildren grow into accomplished adults. He loved to watch his son play his bass guitar and could frequently be seen at Deric's band gigs. Dad raced stock cars and served his country in the Air Force Reserves. Dad was a longtime member of the Parsons, Kansas Masonic Lodge, having been a prior Worshipful Master of that Lodge. He was able to see one of his grandsons follow his footsteps by becoming a Master Mason in 2010. Dad's love of life took him on adventures that most will never get to experience. He worked for Boeing in the 1960's on several projects, including the Gemni project; worked for the Kansas Army Ammunition plant in Parsons, and eventually owned his own business. His career as an engineer took him around the world to Spain, Germany, and Pakistan. Dad never met a stranger and made friends wherever he went. He will be missed by all.

        Funeral service will be Tuesday, March 26, at 2:00 pm at Langsford Funeral Home, Lee's Summit, Missouri. Visitation will be Monday evening from 6:00-8:00 at the funeral home. Graveside service will be Wednesday, 2:00 pm, at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Bently,* Kansas. Toni C. Sponsler, 63, of rural Perrysville, died Friday, May 17, in MedCentral/Mansfield Hospital following a short illness. She was born April 26, 1950 in Ashland, the daughter of Eugene and Eileen (Ricer) Cline.

She was a 1968 graduate of Lucas High School and a Lucas-Perrysville area resident most of her life. She was a STNA for Colonial Manor Health Care Center, Loudonville for 17 years before retiring in 2012. She loved being in the outdoors, but the most important things in her life were her husband, children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Douglas A. Sponsler, whom she married April 5, 1969; her father, Eugene Cline of Graysville; her son, Nathan (Angela) Sponsler of Loudonville; her daughter, Patricia Sponsler of Ashland; three grandchildren, Natalie VanScyoc of Ashland, Madalyn Sponsler and Logan Sponsler, both of Loudonville; two sisters, Connie Cline of Graysville and Bonnie Cline of Woodsfield; and her sister-in-law, Sherry (David) Christine of Perrysville.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Eileen Cline, and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lisle and Pat Sponsler.

Friends were received May 22 at Lindsey Funeral Home, Loudonville.

Graveside services were held May 23 in The Cline Family Cemetery, Graysville.

She was a graduate of Green Rural High School class of 1942 and worked during WWII at the steel mill in Tiltonsville. On June 22, 1946, she married Roy Starr, who preceded her in death on May 3, 1989. She was also preceded in death by her firstborn granddaughter, Lynnette Starr Thomas August 16, 1994 and siblings, Carroll, Ralph, Rob, and Ed Norris and Velma Norris Roth.

She is survived by her sister Alice (Vaughn) Thomas, children Roger (Myrna) Starr, MaryAnn (Charles) Tomlin, Nancy (Charles) Merrill, and Clyde (Nicole) Starr, grandchildren Marcie Starr Sapp, Jenny Starr Thompson, Brian Tomlin, Scott Tomlin, Traci Tomlin Alleman, Ryan Merrill, Shannon Merrill Ferrebee, Sara Merrill Cunningham, Sean Merrill, Colby Starr, Troy Starr and Daniel Starr, and her 20 great-grandchildren along with several nieces, nephew, and friends.

Helen was a devoted member of the Laings Church of Christ, and a loving Wife, Mother and MeMa.

        JEFFERSON — Dorothy L. Steele, age 99, a resident of Jefferson, Ohio, living most of her life in Ashtabula County, passed away Friday, Dec. 6, 2013, at the Jefferson Health Care Center.

        Born Nov. 1, 1914, in Cleveland, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Nettie (Underwood) Daigen and attended the Austinburg Schools.

        Dorothy worked at White's Bakery and the Ben Franklin in Jefferson.

        She was a former member of the Austinburg Congregational Church. She enjoyed traveling, garage sales, sewing, cooking, watching the Cleveland Indians on TV and flower gardening.

        She was a devoted mother and grandmother and she loved spending time with her family.

        Survivors include her daughter, Donna Conrad; grandchildren, Sheri Nye, Sandra Glover, Mark Behune, Marlene (Scott) Breedlove, Gary (Lisa) Steele, David Conrad, Gail (Ron) Sim and Daniel White Jr., all of Ashtabula County and Daniel Boord of Arizona; 13 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; one great-great-great-grandchild; and her sister, Mary Boyd.

        She was preceded in death by her husband, Gabriel Steele; daughter, Janet Behune; son, Daniel W. White; one great-grandson, Garrison Steele; her parents; two brothers, Daniel and Robert Daigen; and her long time companion, Lee Renshaw.

Florence Ricca Stenger, 91, of Belmont, Ohio passed on to her eternal reward on January 14, 2013, comfortably at her home, surrounded by her children. She was born in Clarington, Ohio on November 15, 1921, daughter of the late Ed Ricca (Kernen) Lude.

Florence was a member of Assumption Church, Barnesville, Ohio. She graduated from Clarington High School and went on to graduate from the Ruth Brandt School of Nursing in Martins Ferry, Ohio. She retired from her nursing career from Barnesville Hospital and Barnesville Medical Center, with 60 years of care giving. During her lifetime, she enjoyed gardening, farm life, travel, her numerous associations with clubs and memberships throughout the area and most of all, spending time with her extended family and friends.

Florence was a past president of the Assumption Catholic Women's Club, past president of Lay Deanery Council, past president of the Barnesville Hospital Sycamore Twig, member of the Barnesville Hospital Board of Trustees for several years, lifetime Red Cross blood donor, 4-H leader for area youth, Belmont County Farm Bureau member, volunteer nurse and care giver for Hospice of Wheeling, Rubber neck tour host, and American Cancer Society drive member. Florence was also a host mother of two foreign exchange students.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in passing by her husband, Joseph W. Stenger; sisters, Viola Marshall and Dorothy Shook; and her eldest son, Robert F. Stenger.Florence is survived and celebrated by nine children, three sons and six daughters. They include, Mary (Jim) Gregor of Martinsburg, West Virginia, Judy (Robert) Kidd of Flushing, Ohio, Joanne (Tim) Cline of Hudson, Florida, Theresa (Jerry) Huck of Fleming, Ohio, Joe (Karen) Stenger of Barnesville, Ohio, Ed (Nancy) Stenger of Belmont, Ohio, David Stenger of Westerville, Ohio, Ann (Ike) Pierce of Sycamore, Pennsylvania, and Kathy (Dan) Warfield of Jerusalem, Ohio; daughter-in-law, Sue Stenger of Belmont, Ohio; 31 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive guests, Friday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., Kelly Kemp Braido & Patron Funeral Home, 702 East Main Street, Barnesville, Ohio. Private interment will be at the convenience of Florence's family.

Francis C. Stephens, 83, of Barnesville, OH, died Wednesday 2/27/2013 at Barnesville Hospital. He was born 4/13/1929 in Boston, OH, son of the late Homer and Celia (Snyder) Stephens.

He was a member of the Boston Church of Christ, an Army Veteran and a member of the VFW. He was retired from Timken Roller Bearing in Canton, OH.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother - Jimmie and a sister - Eunice McConnell. Surviving are brother- Mike (Diane) Stephens of Barnesville; 2 sisters - Josephine Yanok of Rocky River, OH and Patsy (Glenn) Tallman of Woodsfield; 8 nephews; 3 nieces; and great nephews and nieces, including Jason McConnell who lived with Francis.

        She was born near Calais, on March 11, 1916, daughter of the late Jerome and Mable Carpenter Morris.
        Mrs. Stephens was a homemaker and a member of Summerfield Church of Christ, Summerfield. She was also a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Tuscon, Ariz.
        In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Clyde Stephens, on March 18, 1994; two brothers, Robert J. Morris and Racey Adair Morris; and two sisters, Lola Martin and Maxine Sawyer.
        Surviving are three daughters, Norma Jean Cline of Summerfield, Lillie Keylor of Caldwell and Mrs. Mack (Sue) Buckenburger of Utica; one son, James William (Patty) Stephens of Caldwell; one brother, McKinley (Norma) Morris of Summerfield; two sisters, Grace Hannahs of Quaker City and Janet (Roger) Christman of Baltimore; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Morris of Summerfield and Ann Morris of Hilliard; 14 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and 50 great-great-grandchildren.
        Friends will be received at the Brubach-Watters Funeral Home, 202 Main St., Summerfield, from 11 a.m. until the time of services at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, with Frank Love officiating.

He was a member of the South Side Church of the Nazarene.

Surviving family are his children, Vickie (Chris) Conrad of Tucson, AZ, Michael (Leora) Stimpert of Conesville, OH, Daren Stimpert of Shawnee, KS, and Tonya (Chris) Gammello of New Castle; stepsons, Delbert Jeffery (Katrina) Fox and Dale Wayne (Jeannie) Fox, both of New Castle.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Norma Lee (Billman) Stimpert, 69, of Lewisville, in September, 2002; he then met, married and is now survived by his wife, Juaneta Elaine Stimpert of New Castle.

He was a U.S. Air Corp. veteran of W.W. II; a 32 degree Mason for over 65 years; a member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Cambridge, Ohio and the York Rite.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Hilda Pauline Horton Swick on September 7, 2010, and two sisters, Lucille Warner, and Grace Wiley.Surviving are one son, Greg (Elsie) Swick of North Lawrence, Ohio; one daughter, Lorna (Jeff) Hannahs of Sarahsville, Ohio; one brother, Dana F. Ronald was a retired welder for the Ormet Corporation, Hannibal, Ohio; a retired truck driver for Fraley and Schilling Inc., Brilliant, Ohio; and a United States Army veteran of the Vietnam War and a member of the V.F.W., Powhatan, Ohio.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a twin brother, Donald Terry Talbot.

Surviving in addition to his father are his wife, Candace Timberlake Talbot, whom he married on January 16, 1971; two daughters, Kiley (David) Hammond of Fayetteville, North Carolina, and Heather Cox of Woodsfield, Ohio; one brother, Ian (Arletta) Talbot of Clarington, Ohio; one sister, Wilma Nelms of Clarington, Ohio; and three grandchildren, Travis and Jared Hammond and Katelyn Cox.

Ruth L. Tarleton, 92 passed away November 15, 2013 in Los Lunas, NM. She was born October 4, 1921 in Woodsfield, OH. Ruth was the daughter of the late Stella Poulton and Clarence Neuhart of Woodsfield.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Tarleton and her daughter Beatrice Fisher, as well as her four brothers Jim, Cletus, Ronald and Billy, her sister Eleanor and Lena.

She is survived by her son Robert Tarleton, La Quinta, CA; granddaughters Rene Soiles of Belen, NM and Marcia Tarleton of Scottsdale, AZ; grandsons Noel Fisher of Austin, TX and Trey Fisher of Chicago, IL. Ruth was the proud great-grandmother of Baileigh Soiles, Trevor Soiles, Brysen Soiles, Addison Soiles and Mackenzie Soiles of Belen, NM.

She completed nurses training in Columbus, and became a Lieutenant during World War II. After her service was completed she became the traveling clinic nurse for Monroe County. After years at Guernsey County Memorial Hospital in Cambridge, she moved from Caldwell, to Phoenix, AZ in 1963. Ruth retired as a nurse from St. Joseph’s hospital in Phoenix.

Ruth’s compassion, selflessness, friendliness and love of the nursing profession have spun off four generations of nurses in her family. Ruth was a world traveler in Europe and the Far East. Included in those travels she was fortunate to meet the Pope at the Vatican. Ruth was a founding member of St Jerome’s Catholic Church in Phoenix. She enjoyed her many activities in the senior social clubs, volunteering at the church, water aerobics and card club.

Janis gained a passion for flying from her father and was a pilot for over 24 years. She loved animals, especially her 2 dogs, Pete and Maggie. It was well known that every stray cat that appeared was swiftly adopted and cared for, by Janis.

In addition to her father, she is preceded in death by a nephew Tony Franzello.

She was Protestant by faith.

She enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading, and playing bingo.She was preceded in death by her father, Marlin Shore.

Survivors include her mother, Joyce Heddleson of Lewisville; stepfather, James Mark Heddleson of Lewisville; a brother, Paul Joseph Shore Jr. of Pennsylvania; three sisters, Gladys Shore of Lewisville, Jessie (John) Bolasky of Cambridge and Eva Shore of Cambridge; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

        Marilyn Joan (Sutton) Teaderman, 83, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away March 26, 2013. She died peacefully at Hospice of Northwest Ohio after bravely fighting Alzheimer's. Marilyn was born April 28, 1929 in Toledo. She was one of three children to Malcolm C. and Marie M. (Englehart) Sutton.

        Marilyn was a 1947 graduate of DeVilbiss High School and 1967 University of Toledo in Education. She taught 7th grade for 3 years and Memorial pre-school for 13 years, which 3 of her grandchildren attended. She also worked for H & R Block for 10 years and miscellaneous income tax - bookkeeping jobs. She was a faithful wife and mother, enjoying home and family.

        She is preceded by her sister, Madelyn Leake. She is survived by her brother, Marshall (Diana) Sutton in Daly City, CA.

        Marilyn married William "Bill" Teaderman June 17, 1950 at Memorial Lutheran Church. They continue to be lifelong members. They built a new home in Sylvania, Ohio and have 4 children, Nadine M. LaPlante (Joseph), William D. (Agnes), Marlene F. Farkas (Jay), Bradley Paul. She has 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 3 pending great-grandbabies; 2 great-great-grandsons; numerous nieces and nephews.

        Marilyn has donated her body to the UT College of Medicine. A future memorial service is pending.

Dorothy was a retired custodian for the Switzerland of Ohio School District, and a member of Grace Fellowship Church in Mineral Wells, WV.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Earl R. Thomas; three sons, Robert, Edgar and Jim Thomas; a brother and three sisters.

Survivors include three sons, Roy Thomas of Hannibal, Ohio, Glen (Mary Lou) Thomas of Columbus, Ohio and Bill (Betty Ann) Thomas of Duffy, Ohio; a daughter, Mildred (Glenn) Lessig of Womelsdorf, PA; 20 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, and several great great grandchildren.

        ALBANY - Ella Jane Thomas, 81, Albany, passed away Monday, Nov. 11, 2013, at Hickory Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, The Plains.

        Born May 12, 1932, in Albany, she was the daughter of the late Homer and Margaret Crooks Fridenmaker. Ella Jane was an avid quilter and enjoyed caring for her family as a homemaker with her joy of baking, cooking, gardening and making the house a home. She also is remembered as an aide at Albany Elementary School.

        She was a Provisional member of Christ Community Wesleyan Church; member of Albany VFW Ladies Auxilary, and a former member of Albany Eastern Star #558.

        She is survived by children Rusty (Sherry) Thomas of Albany, Jan (Dan) Davis of West Jefferson, Randy (Starlene) Thomas of Columbus; grandchildren Tyler (Jenny) Thomas, Tiffany (Ryan) Gallagher, Travis (Jessica) Boggs, Michael (Amanda) Boggs, Shelby, Alex, Emma Davis, Courtney Thomas, Katelyn (Dakota) Oliver, Nikki Capalino, and Adam Thomas; great-grandchildren Piper Thomas, Maxton Boggs, Kaydence Oliver, Faith, Destiny, Zoey Capalino, and Olivia Gallagher; and her sister Rachel (Bob) Fridenmaker Janko.

        In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband H. Lloyd Thomas, brothers Charles and Jack Fridenmaker.

Tonini, William J. “Bill”, 89, of Hannibal, Ohio, died Thursday, December 12, 2013 at home. He was born December 31, 1923 in Avella, PA, the son of the late Louis and Bianca Damin Tonini.

Bill was a retired maintenance worker at Mobay Chemical and a U. S. Army veteran of WWII.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Gloria Flannery; and a brother-in-law, Marty Flannery.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Dorothy Tonini; two sons, James P. Sweeny and Daniel (Janel) Sweeny; four grandchildren, Todd Sweeny, Marty Sweeny, Mark Sweeny and Dr. Erin Sweeny Siems; two great grandchildren, Cooper Sweeny and Corin Sweeny; a sister, Velma Nodurft; and numerous nieces and nephews including Michael Flannery, Kim Flannery Johnston, Jim Nodurft, and Nancy Nodurft Donnely.

Alice was a member of the Somerton Church of Christ but has been attending the Pine Lake Christian Church since 2005. She was a member of the Barnesville Twig and worked at the Barnesville Health Care Center.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William E. Truex; 3 brothers: John Groves, Carl Groves and James Groves; and sister, Hazel Knox.

        He was born July 5, 1926 in Woodsfield, OH to Carl W. and Lela (Jackson) Tubaugh. Carl had lived in Deerfield from 1990 to 2008, retired from McVay Transfer Company and worked at Colonial Rubber Company in Ravenna.

        Survivors include his daughters Debbie (Dave) Horning of Kent, Donna (Ervin) Konkle of Ravenna and Cheryl (Jack) Hogue of Deerfield, grandchildren Erica Hogue, Chad Konkle, Danielle Horning, Matthew Hogue and Derek Horning.

        He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Daisy, grandson Timothy David Horning, sisters Lela Evalena Tubaugh and Alice Lallathin and brothers Harry, Richard and Harley Tubaugh.

Tuel, Richard K. age 76, of Fly, OH, died Saturday, December 22, 2012 at his home. He was born November 2, 1936 in Wheeling, WV, a son of the late Paul and Leona Haddox Tuel.

He was a retired oil worker for Quaker State in St. Mary's, WV, and Pennzoil in Oil City, PA; a member of the Gravel Hill Baptist Church, Fly, the Oil, Chemical & Atomic Workers Union, and the NRA. He was valedictorian of the 1954 graduating class of New Matamoras High School.

Richard loved to share his knowledge of local history and lore, read avidly, worked with old oil and gas engines, enjoyed hunting and spending time in the woods, and enjoyed a wide range of music—including his wife's piano playing and his granddaughters' blue grass music.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Christine Tuel Davis and a sister, Mary Susan Ritchie.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Phyllis Minger Tuel; a son, Mark (Crystal) Tuel of Mount Vernon, OH and two daughters, Rhonda (Tim R.) Price of Sardis, OH and Melissa (Monty) Tuel Evans of Johnstown, OH; one brother, Harry Gordon (Judy) Tuel of Marysville, OH and three grandchildren, Christophor Davis and Lauren and Leanna Price.

        Lenora M. Tuley, 91, of Shelbyville, passed away Friday, March 15, 2013, at IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

        Lenora was born July 10, 1921, in Brown County. She was the daughter of Isaac and Geneva (Helms) Lucas. She married her husband of 62 years, John William Tuley on Aug. 19, 1945, and he preceded her in death Aug. 21, 2007.

        Survivors include her son, Mark James (wife, Susie) Tuley of Edinburgh; brothers, Dr. Edgar Lucas of Fort Worth, Texas, and James Lucas of Indianapolis; and grandchildren, Anna Tuley and Rain Tuley.

        She was also preceded in death by a son, Hugh Earl Tuley; stepson, Richard Allen Tuley; brothers, Rondal Lucas, Perry Lucas, Kenneth Lucas and Jack Lucas.

        Lenora graduated from Carthage High School in 1939.

        She retired from Wellman/General Electric Corp. in 1983 after 19 years of service.

        Mrs. Tuley was a member of First Baptist Church, where she enjoyed attending Bible classes and the American Legion Auxiliary.

        She enjoyed bowling, gardening, reading, fishing and cooking for her friends and family.

        Lenora also leaves behind her dog, Tippy.

        Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St.

        Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 21, 2013, at the funeral home with Pastor David Love officiating. Interment will be in Layton Cemetery in Rush County.

Sandra was a 1954 graduate of Sardis High School and class valedictorian. She graduated summa cum laude from Kent State University in 1958 with a Bachelor of Science degree in History. Sandra was an active member of the Woodsfield Presbyterian Church where she served as organist for over thirty years and taught Sunday school.

Sandra was a board member of the Monroe County Library during the planning and construction of the present library. She was a devoted reader and encouraged young readers.Sandra was a substitute teacher and facilitator, as well as a volunteered with the Monroe County Red Cross.

Sandra is survived by her husband of over 50 years, Davey L. Turner and two daughters Ashley (Mick) Schumacher of Woodsfield, and Allison (John) Dietz of Weirton, West Virginia, one granddaughter Ella Jewel Dietz, one brother Lynn K. (Sally) Jackson of Norris, Tennessee, three nephews, Jeffrey Turner, Brian Turner, and Shane Jackson and two nieces, Twila Jackson, and April Jackson.

Dorothy was a member of the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church on Key Ridge, Ohio for 50 years having taught Sunday school and bible school classes. She has been a member of the Jerusalem United Methodist Church, Jerusalem, Ohio since 1976. Before her marriage, she was employed by the former Marx Toy Factory, Glendale, West Virginia. She had also been an active member of the Belmont and Monroe County Ohio Homemaker's Clubs.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph M. Valkovic on September 21, 1980; and four sisters, Ruth Nevil, Edna Rodgers, Mildred Vincent, and an infant sister.

Surviving are one son, Jim Valkovic of Beallsville, Ohio; two brothers, Edward Weekley of Senecaville, Ohio, and Richard Weekley of Bellaire, Ohio; one sister, Peggy Massey of Alexandria, Ohio; four grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and one great- great grandson.

        EAST  LIVERPOOL – Doris Jean Vantilburg, 78, of East Liverpool, passed away Monday, Jan. 28, 2013.

        She was born July 13, 1934 in Stratton, Ohio, the daughter of the late Charles and Mattie Wilson Thrasher.

       Doris was a retired pottery worker from Homer Laughlin, an avid bingo player and a member of the Ponderosa Park.

        Besides her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, John Vantilburg; a daughter, Cathy Vantilburg; two sisters, Margaret Taylor and Sharon Gilbert; and a brother, Dorman [sic--Dohrman] Thrasher.

        Surviving are two sons, Charlie (Faye) Vantilburg and Robert (Patty) Vantilburg, all of East Liverpool; five daughters, Shirley Bell and Ruth Vantilburg, both of East Liverpool, Sherry (Roger) Davis of Toronto, Sheila (Mark) Eliseo and Heather Vantilburg, all of East Liverpool; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

        Visitation will be today, Jan 29, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Nixon Funeral Home in Newell, with funeral services at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013.

        Burial will follow at Hammondsville Cemetery.

She was born January 16, 1920 in Malaga, Ohio, a daughter of the late Nicholas and Jessie Fogle McCort. Margaret was a retired beautician, a member of the Beallsville United Methodist Church, and OES #24.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Bob, a son, John, one sister, Ginny McCort, two brothers, Tom and Ed McCort.

Surviving are one son, Bill (Debbie) Wain of Beallsville and one daughter, Melinda (Rob) Fisher of Whitehall; one sister, Betty Crahan of Gnadenhutten, Ohio; seven grandchildren; Ian Wain, David Wain, Elaine Alleman, Kayla Harman, Nicole Kinney, Dana Decker, and Rick Decker; 16 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Monday at the Harper Funeral Home, Beallsville 6 PM to 8 PM where funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1 PM with Rev. Richard Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in Beallsville Cemetery.

LAKESIDE -- John E. Walstrom, born on July 7, 1934 in Lebanon, Missouri, left us on February 26, 2013 after a brief illness. Like many families during the Great Depression, he left the Midwest for California, where the family eventually settled in Fresno. He graduated from Roosevelt High School and in 1952 enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving honorably during the Korean War. It was on leave that he met Jane Haggard in Oakland, CA. and they were married on November 20, 1954. John began his 31-year career with the California State Department of Parks & Recreation in 1957. His first assignment was at Cuyamaca Rancho State Park in August 1957. Throughout his life, John was devoted to protecting the great outdoors he loved and he quickly advanced to serve throughout the state, including assignments at Russian Gulch State Park, Mendocino, Lake Elsinore State Recreation Area, and Old Town State Historic Park, San Diego, where he was the first Park Ranger. John was reassigned to Cuyamaca State Park, and then to the Sierra District at Squaw Valley; and to Fort Humboldt State Park, District Headquarters in Eureka, CA. and finally back to San Diego where from 1976 to 1988 he served first as the Assistant District Manager and finally as the Regional Technical Services Manager. John continued to enjoy the great outdoors throughout his life. He was an avid fisherman and birder and together with Jane raised dogs for Canine Companions for Independence. John is survived by Jane Walstrom, his wife of 58 years, of Lakeside, California; his daughter Mary Katherine Long, her husband Darrell Long, and his grandsons William and John Long all of Soquel, CA; his brothers Robert Walstrom of New Mexico and Dave Walstrom of Wyoming. Interment was held on April 13, 2013 at the Clovis Cemetery, Clovis, CA. A celebration of John's life will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday June 15, 2013, at St. Madeleine Sophie's Center, where he devoted many hours helping others, 2119 E. Madison Avenue, El Cajon, CA 92019. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to St. Madeleine Sophie's Center or the Anza Borrego Foundation, P.O. Box 2001, Borrego Springs, CA 92004.

Stanley Keevert Ward, 89, went home to be with the Lord on March 19, 2013. Born Feb.22, 1924 in Round Bottom to Homer and Daisy Ward.

He was an area resident most of his life. He was a World War II Merchant Marine veteran. He graduated from King’s Point Merchant Marine Academy and served as Cadet and engineer. He worked for The University of Akron as HVAC manager for 30 years and up to 2ndlater retired from John W. Galbrath with 10 years of service in building maintenance. He was a member of Green Valley United Methodist Church.

Stanley, a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Homer L. Jr., Roy L., and Dr. Curtis H. Ward.

He is survived by his loving family; wife of 67 years, Agnes Willene; daughter, Shelia Kay Cenker; grandchildren, Michael Ward Cenker and Mandy Alice Cenker (Scott) and their children, Sadie Marie and Lucas Michael, and many other dear relatives, loving neighbors and friends.

Visitation was Mar. 23 at Green Valley United Methodist Church where funeral services were held immediately following with Pastor Jennifer Olin Hill officiating. Burial was at East Liberty Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Hecker Funeral Home, Uniontown, Ohio.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Bernard L. "Callie" Ankrom; second husband, George B. "Ducky" Warfield; and sister, Iris Kathleen Eddy.

She is survived by her daughter, Shelia (Jake) McCort of Somerton; granddaughter, Mary (Jay) Hashman of Somerton; 2 grandsons: Jimmy Gallagher of Elgin, Oklahoma and Jason (Mindy Lynn) Gallagher of Chickasha, Oklahoma; and 6 great-grandchildren: Hailie and Austin Hashman and Adam, Summer, Cody and Hunter Gallagher.

He was a retired chemist, having worked for Ormet, Liquified Coal Development Corp. and Foot Mineral. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in chemistry from West Liberty State College, and was a U.S. Navy veteran serving in the medical corps. He loved sports with his favorites being the Detroit Tigers, the Pittsburgh Steelers and all Magnolia High School sports. He was a member of New Martinsville Moose Lodge #931 and Paden City American Legion Post #86 and a member of the New Martinsville United Methodist Church.

He was a former millwright in various factories in the Akron, Ohio area and a retired farmer. He was a United States Army veteran and Disabled American Veteran. He was a member of the former Road Fork Baptist Church, Lower Salem, Ohio.

He enjoyed bowling, watching sports and hunting.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Cole Webb on July 10, 1995; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Lorrie Timms Webb; a daughter, Debra Deel; and a grandson, Stephen Deel.

Harold Carl Weckbacher, 97, of Beach City, Ohio passed away on Dec. 31, 2012 at his home. He was born in Rinard Mills on Aug. 10, 1915 to the late George and Victoria Weckbacher.

He retired from the Timken Company in 1975 following 35 years of employment. He was a 70 year member of the Masonic Lodge and attended Market Avenue Church of Christ. He enjoyed yard work and playing music on his guitar and will be deeply missed by his family. Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Norma and Keith Thomas, 3 step-daughters, Shirley Martin, Beverly (Barry) Grasley and Susan Berkoben and his sister June Mobberly of Marietta; four grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Ava (Gray) Weckbacher in 1966; his second wife, Gladys (Ring) Weckbacher in 1994; one brother and five sisters.

Funeral services were held Jan. 4 at the Reed Funeral Home in Canton Chapel. Burial followed in North Lawn Cemetery, Canton.

        He was a member of the Living Waters Fellowship.

He was a retired employee of Ohio Edison’s RE Berger plant, a U.S. Air Force veteran, member of Centerville Christian Church, and Weyer Chapter # 541 F&AM in Centerville.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie Ruth Tomlinson Wells; sister, Bonnie Robson; half brother, Charlie Rackie.

Surviving are three children, Kitty Jo (Mike) Lloyd of Hannibal, Ohio, Susan Lynn (Rodney) Britton of Catlettsburg, Kentucky and Robert H. Wells of Centerville; sisters, Susan Pritchard of Myrtle Beach, SC., and Mary Jo Alexander of Wilmington, NC.; a brother, Harry Wells of Centerville; two grandchildren, Trevor and Wesley Lloyd.

Phyllis Marie Huffman Wells, 82, of Malaga went home to be with the Lord Sunday, April 21, 2013 as she was surrounded by her loving family in the East Ohio Regional Hospital, Martins Ferry, Ohio. She was born May 10, 1930 in Columbus, Ohio, a daughter of the late Phillip and Marie Wilson Huffman.

Phyllis was a retired employee of Ohio University Eastern in St. Clairsville, Ohio, a member of the Armstrong Mills United Methodist Church and OES #24. Although in recent years she lived a very quiet life while enjoying the company of her family and listening to country music, her earlier years were spent enjoying many types of activities such as swimming, scuba diving, and traveling. Phyllis was ever the advocate for education and life-long learning.

Surviving are her daughter, Julie (Tom) Myers of Malaga and her son, Steve (Marcia) Wells of Alledonia; four grandchildren, Amy (Ken) Edmunds, April (Dirk) Glotfelty, Arica (Shaun) Ady, and Ryan Wells; nine great grandchildren, Johnny Smith, Will, Kole, and Hank Edmunds, Dylan and Brynlie Glotfelty, Abygail and Elyzabeth Ady, and Kaylee Wells; one great great granddaughter, Madison Smith; also several beloved nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by a grandson, Troy Wells; an infant granddaughter, Amber Myers; an infant great grandson, Luke Edmunds; two brothers, William Huffman and Byron Huffman; two sisters, Mildred Kendall and Mary George.

Visitation will be held Wednesday from 2 to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM at the Harper Funeral Home, Beallsville where visitation will then be held Thursday from 11 AM until the time of the funeral service at 1 PM with Pastor Rusty Atkinson officiating. Interment will follow in Beallsville Cemetery.

Walker attended the New Martinsville United Methodist Church and the Paden City Church of the Nazarene. He loved motorcycles, jeeps, and Mickey Mouse. He also loved music and loved to "sing".

        Matthew David Whitacre, 25, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, April 16, 2013. Matthew was born November 5, 1987 in Ravenna, Ohio to parents Barry and Diana Whitacre.

        He attended Maplewood Vocational School learning precision machining. Matthew was someone who really loved life. He enjoyed music, played guitar and absolutely loved skateboarding. Matthew had thousands of friends and enjoyed time spent with them. He is now at home with the Lord.

        Matthew is survived by his parents and his older brother, Aaron Whitacre. Surviving also are his grandparents, Russell and Louise Whitacre, his aunts, Ruth Turner, Debbie Sellars, and Tina Quealsch, and his cousins, Dru, Austin, Francis, Jason, and Aaron. He will also be sadly missed by his friends and all who knew him.

        No services are scheduled and a celebration of his life will be held at a later date.

        Chris passed away in the early morning hours at Yosemite National Park on September 27, 2013. On the fifth day of backpacking with a longtime friend, a heart attack took him while he was still in his sleeping bag.

        Chris was a kind, gentle, good man who valued his many good friends. He loved his wife Doanna, his Labradors, Tenor and Saxie, and his cat, Kiki. He was a man who loved the great outdoors. Throughout his life he enjoyed surfing, diving, fishing, skiing, backpacking, and bicycle touring. He and his wife spent the early months of their marriage biking and camping across the US and Canada. Chris loved to work with his hands and he loved antiques. He bought his first antique when he was 14. It was his 1957 Volvo that he and his father restored. It still runs. He and his wife spent many weekends renovating their Santa Cruz Victorian and decorating with finds from architectural salvage and antique stores. When his parents visited the projects bounded forward. He and his dad worked side by side on the beautiful period back porch and a dining room built-in. His wife and mom took down the old unused chimney and used the bricks to build a walkway to the house.

        Chris was born in Ashtabula, Ohio on August 3, 1962 to Betty L. and Lynn L. White. Chris, older sister Vicki, Mom, Dad and Buff the family German Shepard came to California in June 1963. He attended local schools including SBCC and UCSB where he received his degree in Mechanical Engineering. During his professional career he contributed to the design of multiple Satellites, Military Vehicles, and fixtures for Naval Submarines. He was most recently employed by Northrup Grumman in San Jose.

        He is survived by his wife, Doanna, his sister Victoria and husband, Charles A. Ryno, his mother Betty and his father Lynn Larry.

        A Celebration of his Life will be held in his back yard in Santa Cruz on Saturday October 12, 2013. For additional details contact his wife or his family.

He was a retired truck driver for Conalco, former employee of PPG, graduate of Sardis High School Class of 1952, U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean Conflict, member of the Democratic Party, member Hannibal American Legion Post 760, member of the Conalco Retirees Group and member of Zion United Church of Christ.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lila Williamson (2010) and a nephew, Mike Williamson.

Surviving are his three children, Cheri (Bob) Bovell of Woodbury Heights, NJ, Jeffrey (Valerie) Williamson of Clarington, OH and Lori (Scott) Greening of Pittsburgh, PA; one brother, Lewis (Wanda) Williamson of Sardis, OH; two sisters, Carol (Ken) Beaver of Sardis, OH and Marilyn (Larry) Boyer of Dundas, OH; three grandchildren, Rachel Mowder, Andy Williamson and Ben Greening; a step-grand daughter, Chelsea Lowe and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Kathy was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary; she loved all types of music, flowers, and also her little Maltese, Hannah.

In addition to her parents, Kathy is survived by her friend and companion, Jim Dague of Beallsville; two brothers, Roger (Lora Sue) Williamson of Beallsville, Mac Williamson of Morristown; three sisters, Kerry (Bernie) Hill of Summerfield, Nanette Bolin of Woodsfield, and Sally Sipperley of Walla Walla, WA; several nephews and nieces and uncles and aunts, including her aunt, Carolyn Stephen.

She was a member of the Matamoras First Baptist Church and graduated from Matamoras High School in 1950. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Matamoras Chapter No. 261.

On March 24, 1951 she married Raymond John Williamson who preceded her in death on January 13, 2013. She is survived by one son John Williamson ( Donna) of New Matamoras and two daughters Linda Strayer ( Randy) of Bluffton, SC and Pam McLaughlin (Doug) of Barnesville, Ohio. Also surviving are eight grandchildren Shon Semon, Luke Williamson, Katherine, Michael and Timothy McLaughlin, Scott, Ashley and Kelsey Strayer. One sister Mary Louise Stewart of Pittsburgh, PA.

He had worked for Conalco at Hannibal, Ohio as a finisher for 26 years. He was a member of the steel workers union and Matamoras Lodge No 374 F & A.M. of Ohio.

On March 24, 1951 he married Marion Langsdorf and she survives with one son John (Donna) Williamson of New Matamoras and two daughters Linda (Randy) Strayer of Bluffton, SC and Pam (Doug) McLaughlin of Barnesville, Ohio. Five grandchildren Shon Semon, Luke Williamson and Katherine, Michael and Timothy McLaughlin. Also surviving is a sister-in-law Virginia Williamson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Gerald Williamson and one sister Eloise Swain.

Terry Lee Wills, 53, of 35226 State Route 78, Lewisville, Ohio passed away Monday, April 15, 2013 in Dayton, Ohio.

He was born at Sharon, Pennsylvania on August 21, 1959 a son of Shelba Johnson Wills who survives of Woodsfield, Ohio and the late James Wills.

Terry was a 1978 graduate of Woodsfield High School, Woodsfield, Ohio; a retired Master Sergeant with the United States Air Force and was currently a logistics planner for the United States Air Force. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, brother and son.

Surviving in addition to his mother, are his wife, Angela Lofguist Wills whom he married on August 17, 1995; one daughter, Kayla Wills of the home; one son, Tyler Wills of the home; one brother, Chris (Nancy) Wills of Dayton, Ohio; three sisters, Tyra (David) Edgel of Lewisville, Ohio, Gail (Gale) Stovall of Henley, Missouri, and Crystal (David) Dixon of Lewisville, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Watters Funeral Home, 37501 State Route 78 West, Woodsfield, Ohio from 2-4 and 6-8p.m. Friday where funeral services will be held at 1p.m. Saturday with Rev. Richard Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in the Calais Cemetery, Calais, Ohio with military graveside services conducted by the United States Air Force Honor Guard.

        Linda Lou (Brown) Wilson, 70, of Byesville passed away Wednesday (October 30, 2013) at Riverside Methodist Hospital.

        She was born July 1, 1943 in Caldwell and was the daughter of the late Claude and Iva (Everly) Brown.

        Linda retired from Fabri-Form after 25 years of service, and was a 1961 graduate of Byesville High School.  She enjoyed fishing with her husband "Skip", spending her winters in Florida near her brother Sonny, going to the beach, yard sales and spending time with her family and friends.     

        She was preceded in death by her husband Robert "Skip" Wilson (who always called her "Lucky") whom she married August 16, 1962 and passed away September 16, 2006; two sisters, Peggy McFadden and Norma Jean Brown.

        Linda is survived by one son Bobby (Ellen) Wilson of Byesville; two daughters, Christine (Glenn) Holmes of Byesville and Stacy (Jim) Ankrom of Cambridge; four grandchildren, Darcy Neuhart, Tyson Ankrom, Grace and Faith Wilson; one great grandson Ryan Wilson Shrieve Jr.; one brother Sonny (Pat) Brown of FL.;  six sisters, Virginia (Jr.) King of WV, Pauline (Glen) Stutzman of Kent, Pam (Chuck) Miller of Ravenna, Penny (Jeff) Kegg of Kent, Patsy Jo (Eric) Masar of S.C. and Patty (Mike) Miles of N.C.; step-grandchildren, Trista, Vega, and Mikey Rooker, Monica Holmes, Rebecca Ford and Jessica Stobart; special friends, Connie, Joyce and Bob Reid along with several nieces and nephews.

        Calling hours will be Sunday from 6-8 p.m. at Black-Epperson Funeral Home, Byesville where services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday.

Wineman, Barry Vincent “Vince”, 56 of Beallsville, Ohio went riding on Thursday, June 6, 2013. He was born April 3, 1957 in Barnesville, Ohio, a son of the late Ray Earl Wineman and Nerita Rose Stephens Wineman.

He was an employee of the Operating Engineers Local Union, and a member of Beallsville American Legion, Barnesville FOE, and Bethesda VFW.Vince was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Mitch Wineman.

Surviving are his wife, Deborah Kay McGraw Wineman; a daughter, Grace Lea Wineman of Beallsville; brother, Joe Wineman of Bethesda; sister, Julie Wineman of Wilson; niece, Brianna Mankin of Bethesda; nephew, Cody Mankin of Bethesda.

Winkler, Wesley D., age 87, of Sardis, OH, died Saturday, August 24, 2013 at the Monroe County Care Center, Woodsfield, OH. He was born October 25, 1925 at the family home in Sardis, the son of the late Harry John and Rose Marie Straub Winkler. He was a 1944 graduate of Sardis High School.

Wesley was a farmer; a U.S. Army veteran of WWII; and served in the Army reserves until 1975 with 20 years military service. He loved spending time with his nephew Ronnie and was an avid Cincinnati Reds fan.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Clyde, Roy, Homer and Harold Winkler.

Survivors include 12 nieces and nephews; and a sister-in-law, Alberta Winkler of Sardis. Family will receive friends on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. at Grisell Funeral Home, 37234 Mound Street, Sardis.

A private graveside service with military honors will be held at the convenience of the family.

Interment in Salem Cemetery, Sardis.

Winland, Col. Gene E. Winland USAF (Ret) 2

Gene died on Jan. 12, 2013 at the age of 72.

Gene grew up in the sleepy little town of Woodsfield, Ohio. He graduated from Woodsfield High School where he was class president for all four years, awarded the Leader of Tomorrow award, played basketball, and played 1st trumpet in the high school band. If that was not enough music, he was in a small band that entertained at many school and local events. He loved playing Blue Moon and the Tennessee Waltz at home throughout the neighborhood so much that the neighbors knew when Gene was home – and they knew when Gene played any sour notes.

He graduated from Marietta College with a Bachelor of Science degree in physics and math, and then went directly into the US Air Force. After Officer Training School, he and Martha started on their world spinning life at various locations where his two sons were born along the way – Scott in 1963 and Brian in 1965. His tours of duty were: Keesler Air Force Base (AFB), MS, Maxwell-Gunter AFB, AL, Davis-Monthan AFB, AZ, Tan Son Nhut, Vietnam, Korat AFB, Thailand, Offutt AFB, NE, Hanscom Field, MA, Ramstein AFB, Germany, Pentagon (two tours), Warren AFB, WY, and Yokota Air Base, Japan. Gene then retired after 30 years of dedicated service to the United States of America.

Gene and Martha retired to St. Petersburg where they have resided for the past 21 years.Upon retirement, Gene became active in the Boy Scouts. He served as District and Council Commissioner, Chartered Organization Representative and Council President. He was Vigil member of the Order of the Arrow, which is an Honor Society of Campers. He also served as a staff member at six Boy Scout National Jamborees.

He was active in the United Methodist Men and currently was President of the Florida Conference United Methodist Men. He served as the Florida Conference and Southeastern Jurisdictional Scouting Coordinator. He was a Life Member the National Association of United Methodist Scouters (NAMUS) and President of the Central Florida Chapter. He was beginning his fourth term on the NAMUS Board of Directors and had served as Board Vice President, Secretary and currently as Nominating Committee.

Gene was active in his church currently serving as Scouting Coordinator. In the past, he had served as Lay Leader and on the Trustees Committee.

Gene is survived by his wife, Martha, son Brian and his wife Darla of Wildomar, CA. and grandchildren Leigh of CA, Zachary and Rachel of VA. Two step-grandchildren and four step-great grandchildren. Two sisters, Janet Mercer of Woodsfield, OH and Sue Orr and her husband, Wayne of Pickerington, OH. Mother-in-Law Martha Groves and sister-in-law Ruth Groves. Nieces Kelly Knuchel, Lisa Bishop and Allison Kernisky and nephew Gabe Hoagland. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Gene's Memory be made to:

She enjoyed knitting, puzzles, and gardening in her spare time.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Henry T. Winland on April 12, 2011; two daughters-in-law, Karen Winland and Debbie Winland; three brothers; and one sister.

He was born February 25, 1928 in Somerton, son of the late Lennie Winland and Eula (Perkins) Winland Morris.Mr. Winland had worked for twenty-two years as a press operator at Randall & Textron Plastics. He retired in 1989.

He was a US Army veteran, having served during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Cambridge VFW Post 2901.

He enjoyed gardening, four-wheeling, and camping. He owned several John Deere tractors.

He cherished spending time with his grandkids and family.

Mr. Winland was a member of the Palestine Church of Christ.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father, Francis Morris; a grandchild; and four great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Ardith (Roe) Winland, whom he married March 31, 1953; four sons, Paul (& Donna) Winland Jr. of Trinity TX, Edwin Winland of Salesville, John (& Carol) Winland of Salesville, and Kevin Winland of Byesville; three daughters, Bonnie (& Larry) Boggs of Concord NC, Mary Stevens of Lore City, and Beth (& Mitchell) Matyas of Georgia; three brothers, Francis (& Wanda) Morris of Cambridge, Herman (& Joan) Morris of Fountain Valley CA, and Gary Morris of Senecaville; a sister, Jane (& Roy) Wolfe of Cambridge; sixteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and his dog, Bear.

        She was born Jan. 19, 1925, in Shelby County, the daughter of Leander Reed and Nancy Emiline (Price) McGrew.

        Doris is survived by her husband, Thomas S. Winterrowd of Shelbyville; sons, John Michael Winterrowd of Thorntown, Ohio and Thomas Aaron Winterrowd of Flat Rock; daughter, Doris Ann Mattiaccy of Columbus, Ohio; sister, Louise Mullen of Fairland; grandchildren, Jesse, Joshua, Angie and Cindy; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

        She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers and five sisters.

        Doris graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1943.

        She was a member of the West Street United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir for 25 years and was a member of the Circle Three Club.

        Doris was formerly the president of the Baptist Credit Union in De Moines, Iowa.

       She was a founder and the former treasurer of the Society of Young Magicians Indianapolis Assembly.

        We, my sons, Mike and Aaron, and my daughter, Ann and I, plan to have a party celebrating her life. It will be from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 3, 2013, at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St., Shelbyville, IN 46176.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Asa Wise on December 28, 1996; eight sisters, Sarah McLaughlin, Ida Shook, Bernice Cole, Clara Valentine, Elsie Blair, Flossie Kinsey, Alice DeAngelo and Evaline Payne Jones; and one brother, John Kinsey.

She was born near Calais, Ohio on March 2, 1943 a daughter of Georgianna Brownfield Starr who survives of Barnesville, Ohio and the late Edward Starr.

She was a homemaker and a member of the former Seneca Valley Church of Christ near Calais, Ohio. She enjoyed cooking, playing cards, crossword puzzles, gardening, farming, and spending time with family and friends.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a son, James Eric Wise in 1986; and two brothers, Hubert and Herbert Starr.

Surviving in addition to her mother are her husband of 50 years, Jerald Wise whom she married on April 7, 1962; three daughters, Jayne McPeek of Martins Ferry, Ohio, Jorja (Jeffrey) Johnson of Cambridge, Ohio, and Jill (Lars) Johnson of Waynesburg, Pennsylvania; one son, John (Christina) Wise of Caldwell, Ohio; one sister, Helen (J.K.) WISE, Nell Ramsey, of New Martinsville, WV, passed away Sunday, March 24, 2013, at the Woodsfield Nursing Home & Rehab Center, Woodsfield, Ohio, at the age of 97.Nell was born in Silver Hill, Wetzel County, WV, on June 17, 1915.

She was preceded in death by her father, Charles A. Ramsey and mother, Lucy O. Johnson Ramsey; by her husband, Harry E. Wise; by four sisters, Lillie Yocum, Ocie Buchner, Anne Yoho and Blanche Long; and by two brothers, Elmer Ramsey and Ernie Ramsey. She was also preceded in death by beloved family friend, Glenn Smith.

Nell was survived by her son, Dr. James N. Wise, wife, Hester of Rolla, MO; by two grandsons, Garnett Wise, wife Julie, daughters, Bailey and Emma of Fayetteville, AR and by Dr. Ramsay Wise, wife, Joie Hendricks, and daughter, Keaton of Columbia, MO.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of New Martinsville for 66 years. Nell was an active quilter with the Baptist Church Quilters' Guild until 2011.

Nell retired in 1986 ending her 33-year career at Wetzel County Hospital as an LPN. Her formal education ended with her eighth grade graduation from Silver Hill School. She encouraged her son and grandsons to be diligent in school and was proud that they were awarded university degrees. She learned how to drive at 74 years of age, a skill that helped her maintain her independence into her late 90s.

Nell would have been a member for 74 years on April 7 of Palm Rebekah Lodge No. 157, New Martinsville.Family will receive friends on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Grisell Funeral Home & Crematory, 751 Third Street, New Martinsville, where funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Clyde "Sheets" Wittenbrook, 92, died December 16, 2013. He was the son of the late Harry and Blanche Nalley Wittenbrook of Woodsfield.

He is survived by his wife, Marjorie and one brother.He owned and operated a flying service at Barnesville Airport and acted as voluntary manager. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Barnesville and a 32nd Degree Mason.

There will be no calling hours. Graveside service will be conducted Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at 1 PM at Crestview Cemetery in Barnesville, Ohio with Pastor Ted Buehl officiating. Arrangements entrusted to Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home, 319 North Chestnut Street, Barnesville, Ohio.

Jessica D. Wolfe, 76, of Parkersburg, WV, passed away at 10:32 am on Monday (April 1, 2013) at Riverside Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. She was born on March 6, 1937, in Williamstown, WV, a daughter of Granville Wolfe and Nellie Hendrickson Wolfe. She had been employed for 36 years at The Lafayette Hotel and was a member of Landmark Baptist Church in Parkersburg.

She is survived by her daughter Eva (Wayne) Francis of Parkersburg; 3 grandchildren: Melissa Murphy, Michael (Melissa) Flesher, Jack E. Wilson III; 5 great grandchildren: Ashley Flesher, Danielle Flesher, Destiny Wilson, Kaylee James, Adrianna Wilson; great grandson Jayden Flesher; 2 brothers: Walter Dean (Mary) Wolfe and Ronald (Betty) Wolfe and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and 3 sisters: Bonnie Jean Lent, Deloris Maxine Lee, Crystal Dawn Wolfe.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11:00 am at Landmark Baptist Church, 310 8th Avenue, Parkersburg with Pastor Michael Lamb officiating with burial in Riverview Cemetery.         WOODS, Ruth Mae, 91, of Wintersville, OH, died Tuesday, July 2, 2013, in Florida.

        She was born in Steubenville on September 15, 1921 a daughter of the late George W. and Clara A. Wilson Powers,  Ruth had worked at Weirton Steel in the sheet mill department.  She was a member of Buena Vista United Methodist church and the Friendship Club, American Legion Auxiliary 10, Weirton, WV, and the Mingo Senior Citizens Club.

        In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Leroy Woods; brothers, Bill and Ralph Powers.  Survived by her son, Richard (Sandy) Kidder of Toronto, OH; daughter, Billie Ruth (Michael) of Florida; stepson, Dennis (Margaret) Woods of Trinity, FL.; step-daughters, Janet Woods of Seattle, WA and Sheryl Woods of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; grandchildren, Lynn (John) Alderman of Charleston, WV, Beth (Todd) Haas of Ravenna, OH and Noelle (Joey) Tingler; seven great grandchildren.

Patricia Sue Yanchak, 63, formerly of Barnesville, died Thursday, May 2, 2013 at Wheeling Hospital. She was born in Elyria, Ohio on September 14, 1949 to the late Daniel Bourke and Naomi (Morris) McCourt.

Patricia was a 1967 graduate of Barnesville High School and attended Wheeling Business College. She was a member of the St. Michaels Catholic Church in Wheeling. Patricia enjoyed riding her motorcyle and was a member of Women on Wheels and Motor Maids.

She is survived by her loving husband of 40 years, John R. Yanchak, Sr. of Windsor Heights, WV; son, John Richard Yanchak, Jr. of Barnesville; daughter, Michelyn (Randolph) Vien of Pittsfield, NH; 3 grandchildren: Kellie, Jocelyn, and Richard Vien; brother, Daniel Michael (Judy) McCourt of Sardis; nephew, Robert Gander and niece, Shauna Reilmann.A Requiem Mass will be held at Assumption Church in Barnesville on Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at 10am with Msgr. Mark Froehlich officiating.

Jerry Yoho, 60, of Beallsville, formerly of New Martinsville, died Friday at his home. He was born May 8, 1952 in New Martinsville, a son of Vera Bland Yoho and the late James Yoho. Jerry was a retired employee of Chicago Bridge and Iron Company and a life-long member of the Brotherhood of Boilermakers.

Surviving in addition to his mother, Vera, of New Martinsville are his wife, Tracy; a daughter, Michele (Michael) Throckmorton; four sons, Daniel Yoho, Anton, Luke, and Jesse Stenner; a brother, Larry (Linda) Yoho of Paden City; four sisters, Carol (Gregg) Hawkins, Marlene (Brian) Rodriguez, Charlene (Mike) Blair, all of New Martinsville, and Debby (Gil) Farmer of Florida; six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his father, Jerry was preceded in death by a brother, Clarence Lee Yoho. Visitation will be Sunday 2 to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM at the Harper Funeral Home, Beallsville. Graveside services will conducted Monday at 11 AM in Beallsville Cemetery.

Yost, Evang. Jerry, age 70, of Hannibal, Ohio, died Monday, March 11, 2013 at Marietta Memorial Hospital, Marietta, OH. He was born November 28, 1942 in Farmington, WV, the son of the late Denzil and Bethel Cole Yost.

Jerry was a minister at the Church of Christ in Duffy, Ohio for 38 years and was actively involved in the family business Sounds Incredible. He also was a director and loved working for the WV Christian Youth Camp for over 40 years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jim Yost; a step father, Earl Lough; a step sister, Loretta Rowand; and an infant nephew, James Andrew Yost . Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Doretta George Yost; two sons, Mike Yost and Greg (Bobbi) Yost; a brother, Tom (Barbara) Yost of Midland, NC; a step brother, Marvin (Kathy) Lough of Mentor, OH; a step brother-in-law, Archie Rowand of Ida May, WV; a grandson, Aaron Yost; a granddaughter, Kristen Yost; a sister-in-law, Katie Yost of Farmington, WV; four nieces and five step nephews.

Family will receive friends on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. at Grisell Funeral Home & Crematory, 751 Third Street, New Martinsville.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Bridge Street Church of Christ, 1139 Bridge Street, New Martinsville, with Evangelists Dan Kessinger, Rick Tincher and Tom Butterfield officiating. Congregational singing will be led by Andy Robison.

Young, Joseph Young

Joseph Young, 88, of Cambridge, died Thursday (May 2, 2013) at his home.He was born July 19, 1924 in Rutland, son of the late Joseph A. Young and Dulcie (Martin) Young.

He was a 1942 graduate of Middleport High School, where he was a member of the football team for four years and he also played one year of basketball. He attended Ohio University in Athens and the Zanesville branch. He did additional study at Parkersburg Community College and Franklin University. He was a graduate of the State of Ohio Environmental School of Environmental Health and The Ohio State Peace Officers Training School. He was a registered Sanitarian and was employed as such with the Meigs County Health Department. He was later named Director of Environmental Health for the Vinton County Health Department. He was a past president of the Southeastern Ohio Sanitarian’s Association.

Mr. Young served over three years in the US Army following his graduation from high school, earning five battle stars in Europe in General George Patton’s Third Army.

He was deeply involved in community services with Rotary, being elected twice as president of the Middleport Rotary Club and named a Paul Harris Fellow twice. He was also a member of the Cambridge Rotary Club and was a past president of both the Woodsfield and Cambridge Kiwanis Clubs. He was a life member of the Guernsey County Chapter of the Ohio Horsemen’s Council; an honorary member of the Appalachian Riding Club of Jackson; a past member of Monroe County’s Circle M Riding Club; a life member of the Ohio Consumer Loan Public Relations Association; a member of the old Guernsey County Buggy Wheel Riding Club; and he served as co-advisor for the Rough Riders 4-H Club in Woodsfield.

Mr. Young served one term on Monroe County’s Republican Executive Committee and two terms as a village councilman in Middleport. He was a long time member of Middleport American Legion Post 128 and a member of Woodsfield VFW Post 5303. He belonged to the New Concord Mounted Police. He did some minor high school football officiating under the membership of the Athens County Chapter of the OHSAA and was a member of the Ohio Valley Approved Football Officials in Wheeling WV. He held memberships in the Marietta and Pomeroy Beagle Clubs. He was past Chancellor of the Woodsfield Lodge, Knights of Pythias, a fifty-year plus member of Harrisonville 411 and Monroe Lodge 189, Woodsfield. He was a Master Mason, serving over fifty years as a 32nd degree member of Valley of Cambridge Scottish Rite F.&A.M.

He was a great Pittsburgh Steelers fan and a fan of the NFL. He started Biddy League football in Woodsfield and continued working with them for many years.

He was an avid vocalist, having sung in church choirs in the Middleport Church of Christ, St. Paul’s United Church of Christ of Woodsfield, and Disciples Church of Christ of Cambridge. He also sang with The Cambridge Singers, The Voices of Liberty in Meigs County, and more recently with the Traveling Country Christian Choir and the Muskingum University Chorale Society of New Concord.

Mr. Young served on the GNC Board of DD in its earlier days and was a member of the Gallia, Jackson, and Meigs Counties Board of Alcohol, Drug and Mental Health Services.His life’s motto from Rotary – “Service Above Self”.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Elijah Joseph Bintz.

He is survived by his wife of sixty-five years, Rowena E. (Warren) Young; a daughter, Melanie (Dan) Bintz of Cambridge; a son, Joseph W. (Jane) Young of Portsmouth; two granddaughters, Amanda (Joe) Shockley and Andrea (John) Britton; two grandsons, Josiah (Elizabeth) Young and Jacob (Carissa) Young; seven great-grandchildren, Sydney, Alex, Dalton, Trystan, Steele, Emmett, and Cecilia; and two sisters, Jeanne Anne Bradbury of Syracuse and Jane Young of Alpharetta GA.

Younglove, Danny C. Younglove

        Danny C. Younglove, 66 of Calcutta passed away at Kindred Hospital at Heritage Valley Beaver on Saturday May 4, 2013 after an extended illness.

        Born on June 7, 1946 in Chicago, he was a son of the late Bernard and Doris Heath Younglove.

        A long distance truck driver, he was very proud of the fact that he had attained over 3,000,000 miles.

        A veteran, he served his country with the US Air Force.

        He was preceded in death by his son Ty Younglove.

        His wife who he married on October 7, 1990, Mary Willey Younglove survives along with his daughter, Erika Kelly of Wellsville, and his sons, Dean Younglove of Camby, IN; David Younglove of Illinois, and Timothy Parks of Aliquippa, PA; his nephew, Ken Younglove of Illinois, and four grandchildren.

        Private burial will take place at Shadow Lawn Memory Gardens in Newell.

ZIMMERMAN, Catherine M. "Kitty," 91, of Martins Ferry, OH, died Monday, December 2, 2013. She was born in Clarington, OH on November 22, 1922, the daughter of the late John H. and Myrtle A. (Morris) Brake.

She was a retired employee of the former Hub Department Store and a dietician at East Ohio Regional Hospital.

In addition to her parents and her husband of 61 years, Thomas F. Zimmerman, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Ermine, Morris and John Alvin Brake.

She is survived by son, Timothy T. Zimmerman, Columbus, OH; three daughters, Judith K. (John) Runkel, Sewickley, PA, Janet L. (Gary) Zurenko, Kalamazoo, MI, Cathy J. Zimmerman, Martins Ferry, OH; sister-in-law, Almeda Brake, Sardis, OH. She is also survived by four grand children, and four great- grandchildren.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Keller Funeral Home, 615 Hanover Street, Martins Ferry where friends will be received Thursday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.

Funeral service will be held Friday, December 6, 2013 at the funeral home at 11 a.m, with Pastor Karen Torrez officiating.

Interment will follow at Weeks Cemetery, Bridge port, OH.

Linda Jo Zumpetta, 63, of New Martinsville, WV, died Thursday, May 30, 2013 at Liza’s Place in Wheeling, WV. She was born July 28, 1949, at her home in Woodsfield, Ohio, the daughter of the late Ralph O. and Dorothy D. Mikes Paden.

She was a realtor with Wetzel Valley Agencies for twenty-eight years, member of Moose Lodge Chapter #2165, Paden City American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post 86, New Martinsville Women’s Bowling Association for forty years, loved golf, playing cards and member of New Martinsville United Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, a sister, Rosalie J. Cline, preceded her in death.

Surviving are her husband and friend of eighteen years, Larry Zumpetta; three sons, James B. (Dorothy M. Johnson) Price II of Charleston, SC, Joe (Malissa) Price of Fairmont, WV and Jon D. (JoEllen) Price of Mooresville, NC; two step-daughters, Laura J. (Chuck) McGowan of Wellsburg, WV and Nicole M. (Mike) Shulock of Pittsburgh, PA; eight grandchildren, Katelyn McGowan, Brandon McGowan, Michael Shulock, Jacob Shulock, Jackson Price, Carter Price, Grace Price and Paden Price; two sisters, Barbara (Dan) Probst of Paden City, WV and Joyce Wise of New Martinsville, WV, and several nieces and nephews.

Friends were received June 2, at Jarvis-Williams Funeral Homes, New Martinsville, WV. Funeral services were held June 3, at the New Martinsville United Methodist Church with Pastor Melissa Shortridge officiating.

Burial was in Northview Cemetery in New Martinsville, WV.

He was born March 1, 1955, in Cambridge, son of Katherine (Albright) Zuress and the late Michael Zuress.Mr. Zuress worked at General Fastener for 17 years, where he was the general manager.He was a 1973 graduate of Meadowbrook High School. He was a member of the Farm Bureau.He enjoyed golfing, gardening, traveling, and visiting with his neighbors.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, David Dorland.

He is survived by his wife, Oeta (Dorland) Zuress of the home, whom he married June 22, 1974; his mother, Katherine Zuress of Byesville; a daughter, Ashley Zuress of Newark; a brother, Allen (Sharon) Zuress of Byesville; a sister, Carol (Gary) Davis of Jerusalem; three brothers-in-law, Harold (Marge) Dorland of Cambridge, Chuck (Denise) Dorland of Cambridge; and Don (Elsie) Dorland of Cumberland; two sisters-in-law, Nancy (Larry) Gray of Cumberland and Beverly Beason of Plano, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.Family and friends may call on Saturday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Black-Epperson Funeral Home, Byesville.
