Wanda E. Aberegg, 90, of Beallsville died Sunday, June 12,
2016 in Emerald Pointe Nursing and Rehab Center, Barnesville. She was born
November 24, 1925 in Belmont County and was a member of East Sunsbury Baptist
Church, near Beallsville.
In addition to her parents, Freeman “Pop” and Lela “Dee
Dee” Brown, Wanda was preceded in death by her husband, Delbert E. Aberegg in 1975;
a sister, Mabel Heft; three brothers, Jack, Charles, and Glenn Riley. Surviving are her children, Debbie Aberegg
of Beallsville and Mike Aberegg (Shirley Daley) of Beallsville; four
grandchildren, Cassie (Dugan) Demchak of Woodsfield; Michael, Jr. (Sarah)
Aberegg; Matthew (Abigail) Aberegg and Carrie (Daniel) Dick, all of
Beallsville; 11 great-grandchildren, Kade, Lane, Max, and Miles Demchak, Jaxon,
Colton, and Alyssa Aberegg, Aiden and Riley Aberegg, Carly and Dominic Dick;
also her furry kids, Gizmo, Gracie, and Jeremy.
Friends were received June 14 at the East Sunsbury Baptist
Church where funeral services were conducted June 15 with Pastor Max Robinson
officiating. Interment followed in East Sunsbury Cemetery.

1922-2016
Kenneth E. Ackerman, 93, formerly of Barnesville and Athens
died Wednesday, January 20, 2016 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
He was born in Belmont County on January 24, 1922 to the
late Samuel and Josephine (Hagan) Ackerman.
Kenneth was an US Air Force
Veteran of WWII.
He earned his Bachelors Degree in Agriculture from The Ohio
State University and Masters in Economics from Ohio University.
He retired from Ohio State University where he served the
majority of his career as the Athens County Agricultural Extension Agent.
Ken was a Life Member of the VFW of Athens, Past President
of Athens Rotary Club, and he was honored by the Chamber of Commerce in Athens
County as Citizen of the Year.
After retirement, Ken and Sue operated Ackerman Antiques
and enjoyed traveling the United States.
Ken was an avid reader,
historian and genealogist.
He deeply loved his family, learning and a good debate.
In addition to his parents,
Ken is preceded in death by two brothers: Myron and Keith Ackerman.
Ken is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Sue
Ackerman; son, Allen (Sue) Ackerman of Oshkosh, WI; daughter, Susan Ackerman of
Sarasota, FL; three grandchildren: Sarah Ackerman, John Ackerman and Mike
(Stacy) Wolken; two great-grandchildren: Andrew and Lillian Wolken; sister,
Wilda Rector of Phoenix, AZ; sister-in-law, Evelyn Ackerman of Somerton, OH;
and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, January 25,
2016 at 1:00 pm at Somerton Cemetery.
Military Honors will be
conducted by Guernsey County Veterans Council at the cemetery.

Freda Irene Adams, 94, of Zanesville, formerly of Scio
passed away on August 27, 2016 at Primrose Retirement Community where she
resided. She was born on October 19,
1921 at High Knob, Monroe County, Ohio to Samuel and Louisa Carson. In her early youth the family moved to
Bloomfield, Ohio.
She attended Ludlow Rural High School graduating in
1939. She continued her education at
Ohio University and graduated in 1943 with a Bachelor of Science degree in
Music Education. She was initiated into
the music honorary Sigma Alpha Iota.
Following graduation she began her career teaching vocal music at
Lucasville High School. Her teaching
experiences were in Woodsfield and Lewisville before moving to Scio, Ohio in
1962 where she retired from teaching at Jewett-Scio High School in 1982.
Freda was a member of the Scio Methodist Church where she
served as church organist, President of the United Methodist Women and various
church committees. She was a member of
the Elevian Club and the Scio Civic Club. She held membership in the Woodsfield
Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star. In
her later years she enjoyed cooking dinners at the church and for the Ruritan
Club where she and Lawrence were actively involved in the local, district and
national levels.
On July 6, 1947 Freda married Lawrence P. Adams at the
First Congregational Church in Marietta, Ohio. Freda was preceded in death by
Lawrence, her parents, sister Vida Carson and son-in-law John H. Spring.
Surviving are two daughters, Sharon Spring of Elgin, South
Carolina and Debra (Steve) Starkey of Zanesville, Ohio. Grandchildren, Kevin (Erin) Spring of
Copley, Ohio, Julie (Daniel) Richardson of Columbus, Ohio, Krista Starkey and
Gregory Starkey Zanesville, Ohio.
Great-grandchildren include Ian and Callen Spring and Porter and Reagan
Richardson.
Funeral services for Freda will be Thursday September 1,
2016 at Koch Funeral Home, Scio, Ohio beginning at 11:00 a.m. Friends may call
on Wednesday, August 31 from 5:00 to 8:00 and one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Jewett, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to
the Scio United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, PO Box 454, Scio, Ohio 43988.

Gladys Eileen Adams age 79, of New Matamoras, OH was called
home Sunday November 13, 2016 at Arbors of Woodsfield, OH. She was born April
19, 1937, the daughter of the late Lawrence and Bessie Williamson Salisbury.
She was a member of Gravel Hill Baptist Church and Sardis Community Club.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her
husband, Steven R. Adams; three brothers, Edward, Leon and Lester Salisbury;
three sisters, Betty Ritchie, Cleo “Toots” Salisbury and Helen Ensinger.
Survivors include a son, Steven L. (Christine) Adams of Fly,
OH; two daughters, Debbie (Mike) Tenley of Sardis, Cathy (Mike) Schoonover of
Sardis, OH,; three step sons, Billy (Linda) Adams of Winchester, VA, Bob (Sue)
Adams of Sistersville, WV, Ron (Diana) Adams of CA; two brothers, Lawrence
“Jake” Salisbury of Fly, OH, Clarence “Bud” (June) Salisbury of New Matamoras,
OH and one sister, Ruth Rush of New Martinsville, WV; eight grandchildren,
Michael (Janice) Tenley, Matthew Tenley, Amanda (Matt) Trader, Jessica
Schoonover, Rexie (Becky) Adams, Brenda (Richard) Ridgeway, Brian (Amy) Adams,
Jerry Adams; ten great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Joseph Edward Adamski, 82, of Aliquippa, PA, passed away on
Thursday, March 3, 2016 in his home. He
was born on the family farm in Clarington on October 24, 1933, the son of the
late Joseph and Christina Adamski. He
worked for J&L Steel in the Blooming Mill and retired from Rowe Furniture
in Salem, Virginia. He was an avid
fisherman.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two
brothers, Emil and Frank Adamski, and a step-daughter Victoria.
He is survived by a brother Charles and Janice Adamski;
five step-daughters: Elizabeth (Jerry) Rausch with whom he resided, and Cheryl,
Brenda, Charlene and Barbara; grandchildren Brittney and Michael, and several
others; a great-granddaughter; Elizabeth; three special nieces: Linda (Chuck)
Cicero, Janet (Gary) Cronin and Ruthanne (Tom) Samuras, and numerous other
nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received on Wednesday, March 9th from 2pm
until the time of Funeral Service at 4pm in the Huntsman Funeral Home and
Cremation Service. 2345 Mill St. Aliquippa, PA 15001.
Private burial will take place in Clarington Cemetery in
Clarington, Ohio.

Glory Mae Alexander passed away Feb. 9, 2016 in San Pablo,
California. She was born Dec. 11, 1924 in Barnesville, Ohio to Gilbert Titus
Alexander and Marion Sylinas Linton. She was the oldest of 12 children. Two
sisters survive her; Kay Dimmerling and Betsy Dodd both of Barnesville. She was
first married to Andy Powers and had three children, Stormy Norsworthy of
Livingston,, La.; Jim Albright of Prescott, Arizona; Roxanna Crowson of
Palmdale, California, all were later adopted by her second husband Carl Albrigh
They had two more children; Carla Trautvetter of Richmond, California and Alan
Albright of Spanish Fork, Utah. She married Joe Mahoney and has a stepson, Jim
Mahoney of Zanesville, Ohio. She also later married Hoy Bilyeu of Stillwater,
Oklahoma.Glory’s grandparents were William Alexander and Emma Hartline of
Monroe County, Ohio. She is descended from the early Monroe County Duvalls,
Earlywines and Duffys. Also descending from the early Belmont County families
of Merritt, Gallagher, Piggott, as well as the early Guernsey Cunty families of
Valentine, Marlow, Groves. She was a loving mother, grandmother and
great-grandmother. Her quick wit and humor will be missed. Glory was a member
of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
There will be a graveside ceremony and dedication by her
son, Alan Albright on Saturday, March 12 at 11 a.m. at Oaklawn Cemetery in
Woodsfield, Ohio.

Ohio passed away Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at her home. She was born in Monroe County, Ohio June 29, 1927, a daughter of
the late August and Viola Leasure Bertschy of Round Bottom, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her husband Roy Alleman June
23, 2000 and a daughter Karen (Jerry) Jones of Woodsfield, one son-in-law Doug
Fontana, four brothers Lester Bertschy of Creston, Ohio, Henry Bertschy of
Wadsworth, Ohio, Clarence Bertschy of West Salem, Ohio, and Glen Bertschy of
Creston, Ohio.
She is survived by two daughters Nancy McKelvey and Sandy
Fontana both of Woodsfield, and one son Roger Alleman of Woodsfield, one sister
Florence Alleman of Sardis, Ohio, two sister-in-laws Bonnie Bertschy of
Creston, Ohio and Wilda Bertschy of Wadsworth, Ohio, grandchildren Greg and
Missy Alleman of Sycamore Valley, Ohio, Michelle and Eric Carpenter of
Shadyside, Ohio, Mike Alleman of Woodsfield, Mickey Southerly of Harrisville,
West Virginia, Tessa Alleman of Coco Beach, Florida, Nathan McKelvey of

Mary Virginia Alloway, 87, of Caldwell, OH, formerly of New
Matamoras, passed away on Monday, August 1, 2016 at Marietta Memorial Hospital.
She was born on September 23, 1928 in New Matamoras, OH to the late Henry R.
and Hilda (Langsdorf) Edinger.
She is survived by two brothers, Charles W. Edinger (Karen)
of Albany, OH and Henry Junior Edinger
of Medina, OH; brother-in-law Mike Haught (Martha) of Marietta and
several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by
two husbands, Denver Barr and Marion Alloway; one son, David Lee Teeman; four
sisters, Shirley Edinger, Esther Haught, Bonnie Hensel and Barbara Feldner; two
brothers, James and Herman Edinger.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday,
August 5, 2016 at Hadley Funeral Home Reno Chapel, 1021 Pike St., Marietta with

Nonnie W. Hunter Anderson, age 89, of New Martinsville, WV,
died Wednesday, June 29, 2016 in Liza’s Place, Wheeling, WV.
She was born December 16, 1926 in New Martinsville, WV, a
daughter of the late Charles Dail and Bessie Dunham Hunter. Nonnie was raised
by her grandparents, George W. and Nora Adams Hunter.
She was a retired
nurse at the former Conalco, Hannibal, OH, with 32 years of service. She was a
member of St. Ann’s Episcopal Church, New Martinsville; she graduated from
Magnolia High School in 1944, St. Joseph School of Nursing, Parkersburg, WV in 1947,
a Cadet Corp. Nurse, Wetzel Co. Public Health Nurse, Red Cross Nurse and a
member of Wheeling Chapter of DAR. She also enjoyed quilting and ancestry.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by
her husband, F. Ray Anderson and an aunt, Gail Hunter Stout Berger.
Survivors include a daughter,
Connie (Brad) Burrough of Glen Dale, WV; a granddaughter, Megan (Nick) Burrough
Gibson of North Augusta, SC; a great grandson, Hunter Gibson; a special
“brother” Don Anderson of Orrville, OH; sister-in-law, Eva Anderson of Cocoa,
FL; a god daughter, Elizabeth Renee Kocher Beard and several nieces and
nephews.

Gladys V. Anthony, age 93, of Thomas Addition, New
Martinsville, WV, passed away at her daughter’s home on Monday, April 11, 2016.
She was born November 29, 1922 in New Martinsville, the daughter of the late
Lloyd E. and Lena M. Kocher Smith. Gladys was a 72 year member of the First
Baptist Church, New Martinsville, the VFW Ladies Auxiliary # 6327, and the
American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post 28. In addition to her parents, she was
preceded in death by her husband whom passed in 2009, David D. Anthony; four
brothers, Homer, Lawrence, Highland and James Smith.
Survivors include one daughter, Judith (Francis) Hill of
New Martinsville; four grandchildren, Cynthia (Dennie) Malson of New
Martinsville, Daniel Hill of Highlands, TX, Rebecca (Tony) Haney of
Bloomington, IL, and Michael (Bobbie) Hill of Gahanna, OH; nine
great-grandchildren, Shane (Joy) Shriner, Rachel Newlin, Ryan Hill, Claire
Hill, Christian Haney, Truitt Hill, Cuttler Hill, Carriegan Hill, and Cash
Hill; three great-greatgrandchildren, Gracelynn, Damon, and Emmett Shriner; two

Chester W. Ault, 82, of Woodsfield, Ohio passed away
Friday, May 27, 2016 at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center
(Shadyside), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was born in Cameron, Ohio on March
19, 1934 a son of the late Stephen and Rachel Ady Ault.
He was a former owner of Ault’s Tire Inc., Woodsfield,
Ohio; a former deputy and dispatcher for the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office; a
member of the Woodsfield Church of Christ, Woodsfield, Ohio, and was a U.S.
Navy veteran. He enjoyed mission work in India and traveled there many times
and one trip to Poland.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a
daughter, Teresa Ault; six brothers, Floyd, Ralph, Lester, Stanley, Hilbert,
and Clyde Ault; two sisters, Vera McConnell and Erma Jones.
Surviving are his wife, Donna Morris Ault whom he married
on November 27, 1952; one daughter, Karen Ault of Woodsfield, Ohio; two sons,
David W. (Jill) Ault of Larkspur, Colorado, Brian P. (Kristen) Ault of
Highlands Ranch, Colorado; one sister, Sylvia Jones of Woodsfield, Ohio; nine
grandchildren, Dustin (Erikka) Ault, Lincoln Ault, Micah (Kristi) Ault, Zachary
Ault, Trevor Ault, Annalise Ault, Ian Ault, Isabella Ault, and Landen Wisell;
four great grandchildren, Kaylee Ault, Kadyn Ault, Kyler Ault, and Birkley
Ault; several nieces and nephews.
As per Chester’s wishes, there will be no visitation or
service. Following cremation, interment will be held at the convenience of the
family.

Mary A. Ault, 91, of Woodsfield, Ohio passed away Monday,

She was born near Clarington, Ohio on February 21, 1925 a
daughter of the late Harvey and Nettie Lindenmeyer Yost.
Mary was a retired L.P.N. at the Barnesville Hospital,
Barnesville, Ohio and was also a former school bus driver. She was a member of
the Woodsfield Church of Christ, Woodsfield, Ohio.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by
her husband Stanley Ault; two brothers, Leonard and Russell Yost.
Surviving are three daughters, Hattie King of West

Carol K. Ayres, age 73, of Moundsville, died Tuesday, August
2, 2016 at Bishop Joseph Hodges Continuous Care Center, Wheeling.
She was born September 28, 1942 in Newburgh, NY daughter of
the late Raymond and Caroline Montfort Powles.
Carol was a former Nurse’s Aide at the Orange County Health
and a Home Health Care worker. She was a former member of the Our Lady of Hope,
Newburgh, NY and a former majorette for the Continental Fife & Drum Corp
and the Hudson Valley Drum Corp.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her
companion: Harry Brady and a great granddaughter: Shelby Lynn Chambers.
Survivors include two daughters: Christine Ayres and Carole
Stillwell both of Moundsville; one son: Charles (Irene) Ayres of Wheeling; one
brother: Raymond (Nancy) Powles of New Hampshire; eight grandchildren: Daniel,
Anna, Crystal, Mary and Raymond (Tabitha) Ayres, James Henry, Jessica (Chris)

Association and recipient of The Yoakum Award. He was a member of Ralph R.

She was born in Morgantown, West Virginia on October 31,
1932 a daughter of the late Christopher and Daisey Blosser Nicholson.
Eleanor was a homemaker and a former employee at
Riesbeck's in Woodsfield, Ohio. She was a devoted member of the New Life
Church, Woodsfield, Ohio. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, made jewelry,
golfing, and was an excellent seamstress.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by
one sister, Elsie Hofer and one brother, Denzil Nicholson.
Surviving are her husband, Glenn Bailey; two daughters,
Deborah Jean Boyer of Cambridge, Ohio, Cheryl (Craig) McPherson of Akron, Ohio;
one brother, Damon(Luise) Nicholson of Morgantown, West Virginia; four

She was a retired employee of Axiall Corporation of 33 years;

Hymera, IN -- Bruce Edward Barnett, 81, of Hymera, passed
away at home, Monday, February 15, 2016 after having struggled with Parkinson’s
disease for several years. He was born August 8, 1934 to Dewey and Frances
Ashcraft Barnett. Bruce served in the Army Band, spending most of his time in
Germany. He worked at Bemis 8 years and retired from Pfizer after 29 years. He
was a member of the Hymera First Baptist Church many years where he served as
deacon and song leader. He was also in the gospel group Master’s Bouquet.
His parents preceded him in death. Bruce is survived by his
wife of 59 years, Zada June Scales Barnett, a son Bradley Barnett, four
daughters Anita (Terry) Gilman, Pamela Barnett, Darla Barnett, and Cara (Larry)
Fellows, 5 grandsons Ryan (Hilary) Gilman, Andrew (Aprill) Gilman, Caleb
(Amanda) Gilman, Cody and Connor Fellows, 3 great-grandchildren Emma Gilman,
Norah Gilman, and Camden Gilman, one sister Elaine Boubek and a brother John
Barnett.
Visitation will be at Holmes Memorial Chapel in Sullivan on

Frederick T. “Freddie” Basford, age 84, of Caldwell, Ohio,
died Friday, October 21, 2016, at SE Ohio Regional Medical Center in Cambridge.
He was born November 4, 1931, in Belmont County, Ohio, son of Ledrew R. and
Edith Blanche Trott Basford. He was raised in Batesville, and he was a 1949
graduate of Batesville High School. He was a United States Army veteran, having
served during the Korean War with the 24th Infantry Division. Mr. Basford
retired from Quinn Development Coal Company, and he owned and operated a family
farm for many years. He was a member of the Olive Lodge #210, F&AM in Mt.
Ephraim, the Belle Valley American Legion Post #641, and the Barnesville VFW
Post #2792. He was also a member of the Mt. Zion Christian Church in
Batesville. He was an avid bowler, participating in bowling leagues in
Cambridge and Barnesville, and he was a member of The Thursday Morning Old
Buzzards Club. He was proud to have participated in the Honor Flight for
veterans to Washington, D.C., and he loved following all of his grandchildren
with their sports and school activities.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one
son, Danny Ray Basford, who died February 19, 2015.
Surviving are his wife, Dolores M. Oliver Basford, whom he
married October 30, 1954; two daughters, Denise A. (Eddie) Martin of Lebanon,
Tennessee, and Dawna S. (Shane) Rucker of Caldwell; one daughter-in-law, Vicki
L. Basford of Caldwell; seven grandchildren, Bradley (Stacey) Basford, Brent
Basford, Brandon (Mollie) Martin, Amanda (Justin) Baute, Ashlee (Jebadiah)
Hammrich, Chance Rucker, and Madalynn Rucker; three great-grandchildren, D.J.
Basford, Mason Basford, and Tanner Brown; and several nieces, nephews, and many

Donald Edward Bates, age 89, of Caldwell, Ohio, died
Thursday, January 21, 2016, at his home. He was born June 16, 1926, in
Zanesville, son of the late Andrew E. and Ida Nondis Mendenhall Bates. He was a
1944 graduate of Summerfield High School, and he was a World War II veteran,
having served in the Army Infantry from September 16, 1944-July 23, 1946. He
was employed as a lead machinist for the former Glacier Vandervell plant in
Caldwell, having retired in 1988. Mr. Bates was a member of theCaldwell United
Methodist Church, and he was actively involved with Boy Scouts, having served
as an assistant scout master for Caldwell Troop #501, and as a member of the
executive board for the Muskingum Valley Council of the Boy Scouts of America.
Surviving are his wife, Velta C.
Loyd Bates, whom he married June 23, 1946; his children, Danny A. E. (Joan)
Bates of Delaware, Dolly C. (Richard) Clark and Diane (Bruce) Kolopajlo, both

FAIRBORN — Evelyn L. Beaty, age 88 of Dayton, formerly a
resident of Fairborn for 52 years, passed away Monday May 23, 2016. She was
born on January 24, 1928 in Columbus, Ohio, the daughter of the late Lewis and
Olive (Lucas) Feiber. Evelyn was a longtime member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church
and assisted there in many ways. She also volunteered at Dayton Children's
Medical Center and enjoyed crocheting and loved her family and friends. Evelyn retired
from Wright State University as an account clerk.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her
husband, Walter C. Beaty, Sr.; son Walter C. Beaty, Jr.; brother, Dale Feiber;
many nieces and nephews. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Nancy Beaty;
two grandchildren, Erin (Mark) Teeples, Benjamin (Carla) Beaty; four
great-grandsons, Matthew, Ian, Maxwell, Jacob; two sisters, Annabell Callicoat,
Linda (Paul) Boyer; brother, Doug (Michele) Dietz; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Mildred “Mill” “Millie” Morrison Belknap, 90, of Woodsfield,
OH, formerly of Fairmont, passed away on Sunday, August 14, 2016 at her
residence. She was born November 22,
1925 in Morgantown, WV, a daughter of the late Charles Y. Morrison and the late
Florence R. Thorne Morrison Hibbs.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Belknap.
She attended Fairmont Senior High School and married her
husband, Lawrence Belknap. She and her
husband moved to Lake Worth, FL in the 1950s where she worked and retired from
the Patton Company. While at the Patton
Company, she helped make the life raft for one of the space missions that went
to the moon; it deployed during the landing back on Earth. Mill was baptized in
the Catholic Church and attended church regularly while living in Florida. She moved to Woodsfield, OH in the
1990s. Mill enjoyed flower gardening,
working word puzzles, and amateur photography.
She was a very active person. She was always “out and about”. She truly loved spending time with her
nieces and nephews, and extended family.
Survivors include her close nieces and nephews: Cindy Hayes
of Woodsfield, OH, Tammy Hayes McClellan of Grove City, OH, Kimberly Hayes Ott

She was born January 9, 1937 in Wheeling, daughter of the late
Essel and Lethia Beatty Bosworth.
Janet was a retired switchboard operator from U.S. Stamping
and the city clerk for the City of Glen Dale for 20 years. She was the past
moderator for the Upper Ohio Valley Presbyterian Women, member of the McMechen
Women’s club and an active member of the First Presbyterian Church, Moundsville
where she was a former Sunday school teacher. She was a former scout leader and
enjoyed scrapbooking.
Survivors include her husband, of 57 years, Wade Bell; two
sons: Dr. Wade (Tracy) Bell, Jr. of Lexington, VA and Alan (Roseanne) Bell of
Annapolis, MD; two daughters: Lee Ann (Mark) Smith of Glen Dale and Leslie
McLain of Columbus, OH; two brothers: James (Kay) Bosworth of McMechen and
Stephen Bosworth of Wheeling; five grandchildren: Jacob Sadaly, Ian and Maxwell

Freda Jackson Bewley, 90, formerly of Stafford, Ohio
passed away Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at the Marietta Center, Marietta, Ohio.
She was born near Stafford, Ohio on August 4, 1925 a
daughter of the late George and Dora Mallett McConnell.
Freda was a retired social service worker and owner of the
former Jackson's Store, Stafford, Ohio. She was a member of the Stafford United
Methodist Church, Stafford, Ohio, where she was a member of the United
Methodist Womens Group. She was also a former member of the Stafford Village
Council. Freda enjoyed traveling with friends and most especially enjoyed her
two sons and grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by
her husband, Donald Bewley on January 5, 1988; three sisters, Luna Franey,
Juanita Bigley, Martha Morrison; and a step-son, Mike Bewley.

Dennis "Denny" M. Biedenbach, 66, of
Lewisville, Ohio passed away Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at his home.
He was born near Lewisville, Ohio on July 20, 1949 a son
of the late Edmund and Stella Miller Biedenbach.
Denny was a retired heavy equipment operator for the Ohio
Operating Engineers, Local 18, Akron, Ohio and was a former employee of Central
Ohio Coal Co. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church,
Miltonsburg, Ohio and a U.S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam War. He was also a
former Seneca Township Trustee serving for 16 years. Denny enjoyed farming, hunting, fishing, feeding the
animals,being outdoors, and most especially spending time with his friends and
family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by
four sisters, Viola Burkhart, Clara Schumacher, Mildred Nau, and Mary Frances
Schoeler; four brothers, James, Roger, Arthur, and Norbert Biedenbach.
Surviving are his wife, Elaine "Tootsie" Kuhn
Biedenbach whom he married on March 10, 1973; one daughter, Michelle Biedenbach
and Carl Phipps of Lewisville, Ohio; two sons, Douglas (Racheal) Biedenbach of
Lewisville, Ohio, Josh Biedenbach and Susan and Jasper Hill of Lewisville,
Ohio; one sister, Evelyn Wasilewski of New Mexico; two brothers, Bernard
Biedenbach of Lewisville, Ohio, Donald (Rita) Biedenbach of Woodsfield, Ohio;
two step-grandchildren and one on the way; his dog and "best friend"
Jack; several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be recieved at the Watters Funeral Home,
37501 S.R. 78 West, Woodsfield, Ohio from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m.
Saturday, April 30, 2016 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Miltonsburg,
Ohio with Rev. Fr. David Gaydosik as the celebrant.
Burial will follow in the Chapel Hill Cemetery near
Lewisville, Ohio with full military graveside honors.
Vigil services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the
funeral home.

“Don” was born May 3, 1932 in
Paden City, WV, son of the late Lloyd and Margaret (Hayes) Billiter.
He was a retired welder for the
former Ormet Corp, a U.S. Army veteran, member of Wetzel Masonic Lodge No. 39
A.F. & A.M., Osiris Shrine Temple and member of Paden Fork Chapel in Paden
City.
In addition to his parents, he
was preceded in death by sister, Nancy Long and two brothers, Wayne Billiter
and infant, Bobby Billiter.
Surviving are three sons, Donald
(Tami) Billiter, Jr. of Paden City, WV, Timothy Billiter of Missouri and
Michael (Lynn) of Alabama; daughter, Jacque (Tim) Moore of Missouri; two
brothers, Lloyd (Florence) Billiter of Texas and John (Paula) Billiter of Paden
City, WV; two sisters, Esther (Emil) Hissam of Florida and Joyce (Gary) Eddy of
Clarksburg, WV and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

p.m., Friday, February 19, 2016 at the Jarvis-Williams Funeral Home in Paden
City, where service will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, February 20, 2016 with Dale
Dudgeon officiating.

Lucy Marie (Pratt) Billiter, 91, of Paden City, WV, passed
away October 8, 2016.
She was born August 18, 1925, in Middlebourne, WV, a daughter
of the late William "Bill" Pratt and Gay Seckman Pratt.
Lucy was a homemaker and a member of the Paden Fork Chapel and
attended the Sistersville First Christian Church. She was very active in church
activities and was involved with Helping Hands. She also loved to sew, knit and
crochet.
In addition to her parents,
she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul C. Billiter; brothers, Troy,
Russell and Homer Pratt; sister, Betty Fiest and grandson, Jesse Ault.
She is survived by her son, Eric "Rick" (Ginny)
Billiter of Green Bank, WV; daughters, Jacque (Steve) Roth of St. Marys, WV and
Pam (Lance) Smittle of Paden City, WV; grandchildren, Jerred Roth, Stepheni
Smith, Sunni Danielson, Leslie Kelly, Erica Billiter, Adrianne Kidd and Drew
Ault; great-grandchildren, Laney, Kaleb, Hannah, Timothy, Allyssa, Lexi,
Rachel, Adam and two great-grandchildren on the way; and several nieces and
nephews.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 2-8 pm at Myers Funeral Home.
Funeral will be Wednesday at the Sistersville First Christian Church at 11:00
am with Pat Stillwagner officiating. Interment will be at Kendle Cemetery.

Lewis L. Bilyeu, 86, of Beallsville, Ohio (Ozark Community)
died Tuesday, May 31, 2016 in the Arbors of Woodsfield. He was born March 31, 1930 near Ozark, a son
of the late Edward Lee and Grace Ophelia Carpenter Bilyeu.
Lewis was a retired oil field worker and a member of the
Ozark Church of Christ. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by
his wife, Katherine “Kitty” Stine Bilyeu; a son and a daughter-in-law, Dana and
Susan Bilyeu; a grandson, Steve Bilyeu, a granddaughter, Bailey Norris; a
great-grandson, Ryder Beardsley; also a brother, Dick Bilyeu.
Surviving are five children, Candace (Anthony) Patterson of
Beallsville, Kevin (Pat) Bilyeu of Nashport, Greg (Carol) Bilyeu of Lewisville,
Robin (Chuck) Norris of Chandlersville, and Chris (Martha) Bilyeu of
Beallsville; a brother, Harold Bilyeu of Beallsville; 18 grandchildren; 21
great grandchildren with one great-grandson due to arrive in late July; also a
great-great-grandchild due in December.
In honoring Lewis’ life, his family also honors his choices

Leanna Black, 87, of Quaker City, died Friday (Feb. 19, 2016)
at her home. She was born Dec. 13, 1928, in Summerfield, Ohio, a daughter of
the late Ross Smith and Flo McVicker-Smith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by six
brothers, George, Don, Ross Jr., Harold, Walter and Calvin Smith.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Norman Black of
the home, whom she married on March 8th, 1956; a son, Bill (and Jill) Black, of
Cumberland; two grandsons, Jess (and Susan) Black of Columbus, Dr. Doug Black
of Cambridge and a granddaughter Kelly, of Cambridge; three
great-grandchildren, Kyler, Coen, and Conner, and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Black was a 1946 graduate of Summerfield High School and
a graduate of the Zanesville Beauty College. She was a nursing home aide for 30
years, beginning at St. Francis Hospital and ending her career at Red Carpet
Nursing Home in Cambridge. She attended Salt Fork Baptist Church.
Visitation will be held Monday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at
Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where funeral services will be held
Tuesday (February 23, 2016) at 11 a.m. with Rev. Floyd Atkinson officiating.
Burial will be at Northwood Cemetery, Cambridge.

McElfresh Ogden.
She was a retired Correctional Officer from Noble County
Corrections, and a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church of
Woodsfield.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her
husband Tom Bobkovich, daughter-in-law Christine Bobkovich, and one brother
Michael Ogden.
She is survived by her sons; David Bobkovich of Olmsted
Falls, Ohio, and Anthony (Darci) Bobkovich of Bay Village, Ohio, two daughters
Diana Bobkovich of Stow, Ohio, and Rhonda (Jack) Custer of Stow, six brothers,

Evansville, Ind. -- Elinor Boeke, 83,
of Evansville, passed into the loving arms of her Savior on December 31, 2016.
She was born January 8, 1933, to the late Albert and Alma (Roeder) Boeke, and
grew up on a farm west of Evansville. She graduated from Reitz High School in
1951, attended Mission House (Lakeland) College in Sheboygan, WI, married in
1952, and was a loving mother of four children. She enjoyed weaving and playing
the piano. Elinor graduated from University of Evansville in 1976 with an
education degree. Elinor was a teacher starting at age 16 when she taught
Kindergarten children in Sunday school. She taught public school in Ohio for
several years and later tutored reading, assisted in Christian schools, and
conducted reading workshops for parents. In 1981, Elinor created a unique
method for teaching reading, called Reading With Color, and she self-published
many Bible story books with color hints to assist beginning readers. She was
filled with joy and strength from God and devoted her life to helping others.
Elinor kept a positive outlook even when times were tough. Even in her last few
years while living in a nursing home in Dayton, Ohio, she stayed cheerful and
smiled at everyone she met.
Elinor was preceded in death by her
oldest sister, Mary Fricke. She is survived by her sisters, Erline Stutsman of
Chiefland, FL, Kathlyn Yarzagaray of Aruba, and Nancy Westenbarger of
Evansville; brother, Lonnie Boeke of Evansville; children, Lewis Settlage of
Berea, KY, Angie (David) Seltzer of Dayton, OH, James (Carrie) Settlage of
Vincent, OH, and Tom Settlage of Richfield, NC; and numerous grandchildren,
great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Memorial services will be 3:00 PM Saturday, January 14,
2017, at Zoar United Church of Christ, 4600 Church Road. Friends may visit at
the church on Saturday from 1:00 PM until service time or after the service,
when a light meal will be served. The burial will be private. In lieu of
flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Heifer International

of congestive heart failure. She was born June 10, 1949 at home in New

was a beautiful woman. She was a homemaker and was best known for her artistic
ability and her love for the Lord.

Shelvie L. Boles, 79, of Beallsville died Thursday, November
10, 2016 in Barnesville Hospital. She was born December 4, 1936 in Monroe
County, a daughter of the late Basil and Vera Tillett Palmer.
Shelvie was a member of the Beallsville EMS Auxiliary, the
Beallsville VFD Auxiliary, and was also dispatcher for both the Fire Department
and E-Squad for many years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her
husband, Walter “Tater” Boles; one sister, Jane Mellott; four brothers, Leroy
Rowley, James Smith, George Palmer, and Charlie Palmer; also by a son-in-law,
Danny Baker.
Surviving are three children, Glenda Baker of Belmont, Bruce
Willcox and Janie Boles, both of Beallsville; two step-children, Sandra Berry
of Columbus and Walter (Stacey) Boles, III of Antioch; one brother, Sonny (Pat)
Palmer of Woodsfield; six grandchildren, Gage, Bradley, Rusty, Michael,
Sabrina, and Kelley; two great-grandchildren, Abby and Nathan; several nieces
and nephews.

He was a retired laborer for Broughton's Dairy, Marietta,
Ohio; a U. S. Army veteran of W.W. II; a member of the American Legion and also
the V.F. W., Marietta, Ohio.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by
his wife, Mary Bolon; two brothers, Bill and Don Bolon.
Surviving are three daughters, Bonda (Lyle) Deming of
Marietta, Ohio, Penny Bolon of Marietta, Ohio, Melanie Barlow of Seaford Long

years, loved to read, member of Clarington Chapter No. 533 Order of the Eastern
Star and member of Hannibal United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, she
was preceded in death by her husband, C. Stanley Bonar; son, Richard Bonar;
granddaughter, Janet Bonar; great grandson, Deacon Beisel and sister, Leah
Salvaterra.
Surviving are her son, David

Donna Boston 79 of Shadyside Ohio died Friday, October 29,
2016 at Liza’s Place in Wheeling, WV.
She was born August 1, 1937, a daughter of the late Harry and
Elsie (Groves) McMahon in Bellaire, Ohio.
Donna worked as a secretary for Doves LLC and Anchor
Construction and Trucking Co. She loved Ohio State, collecting Boyds Bears and
country music, especially Wynonna Judd. Most of all she loved her puppies Molly
and Emily.
Donna was preceded in death
by her parents; her husband, Arthur Boston Jr.; three brothers, Harry, Alberta,
and Chester McMahon, and a sister Ella
Mae Hakr.
She is survived by her son Doug “Beef” Boston of Belmont,
Ohio; a daughter-in-law Mary Rankin of New Eagle, PA; her brothers, George
(Eleanor) McMahon of Shadyside, Ohio and Paul (Diane) McMahon of Elkhart, IN.
In addition she is survived by Chortney (Kayla) Harman whom she looked upon as
a son and his children who were very dear to her, Bayleigh, Coltyn and Wesley,
as well as a great-great-niece Amelia, along with a host of extended family.

(Gaston) Boulet and Dorothy (Floyd) Morris; son-in-law, John Borton;

11am until the time of the service at 1pm with Fr. Paul Hrezo officiating at

Lloyd “Ken” Bowers, Jr., 68, of Beallsville, died Saturday,
May 7, 2016 in The James Cancer Hospital, Columbus, Ohio. He was born March 17,
1948 in Akron, Ohio, a son of the the late Lloyd and Natalie Munsie Bowers.
He was a retired coal miner and an avid stamp and coin
collector.
In addition to his parents, Ken was preceded in death by an
infant daughter, Miki Shery Bowers in 1978; a sister and brother-in-law, Edith
and Earl Johnson.
Surviving are his wife, Debra Thompson Bowers; four
children, Lloyd (Beth) Kenneth Bowers, III of Columbus, Patrick (Holly) Bowers
of Beallsville, Natalie Bowers (Donald Cline, Jr.) of Summerfield, and John

He was born in Oberlin, Ohio on February 25, 1958 a son
of the late John H. and Madge Currier Brandau.
He was a former laborer and construction worker.
Surviving are one sister, Rebecca J. Brandau of St.
Louis, Missouri; one brother, John F. Brandau of Amherst, Ohio; several nieces
and nephews.

Janet was a retired bank teller from United Bank. She was an
avid bingo and poker player, enjoyed watching the Pittsburgh Pirates, crafting
and spending time with her family. She was a Catholic by Faith.

Beulah Beryl Baker Brown left this world peacefully on June
24th, 2016. Beulah was born on
September 9, 1924 in Noble county in southern Ohio and spent her childhood and
early years there on her family farm.
She moved to Ravenna in the 1940's where that she met and married her
loving husband, Claude William Brown (former Mayor of Brady Lake). They moved to Brady Lake in 1949 where they
raised their family of 8 daughters, Virginia Ward (Junior) King of Ieager W.
Va., Pauline (Glen) Stutzman of Brimfield ,Oh., Linda (Skip) Wilson of
Cambridge, Oh., Peggy (Larry) McFadden of Norfolk, Va., Patty (Mike) Miles of
Matthews, N.C., Pam (Chuck) Miller of Ravenna, Oh., Penny (Jeff) Kegg of Kent,
Oh., and Patsy (Eric) Masar of Charleston, SC.
She was devoted to her faith and Lord Jesus Christ, and was a long
standing member of the Brady Lake Baptist Church.
One of America’s “greatest generation”, Beulah witnessed
and lived through many tumultuous world events including the Great Depression,
World War 2, and endured many difficult personal tragedies including the infant
deaths of two sons, Claude William and Ronald Eugene. She managed each with an ever present confidence in the saving
grace of Jesus Christ that gave those around her strength when they needed it
most.
Before she was born, her mother had promised her brother,
who was away at war, that he could name her.
True to her promise, she was called
simply "Baby Girl" until she was 2 years old, when her brother
returned home and named her "Beulah". Beulah loved her family beyond words and she showed it every day
with her generosity and loving concern for all. Christmas at Grandma’s will forever be etched in our memories as
she reveled in her beautiful family surrounding her while celebrating the birth
of Christ. Although she will be sorely
missed, her deep faith, unyielding strength and love for her family will keep
her memory alive in all those whose lives she touched.
Beulah was preceded in death by her parents William and
Anna Cantwell Baker, husband Claude William Brown. Brothers Harold, Lawrence,
James , Donald, and sisters Ruth, Elsie, and Frieda.
Beulah was blessed with a large and loving family including
21 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, many nieces, and nephews. A
celebration of Beulah’s life will be held Monday, June 27, 2016 from 4:00 PM to
7:00 PM at Shorts Spicer Crislip Funeral Home Ravenna Chapel. Funeral services
will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at the funeral home with Reverend
Virgil Elkins of the Brady Lake Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow
in Standing Rock Cemetery in Kent, Ohio. In lieu of flowers the family request
memorials to the Brady Lake Baptist Church, 6296 Cox Road, Ravenna, OH 44266.

Cecil H. Brown, age 71, of Antioch, Ohio passed away Sunday
October 16, 2016 at his home after a long battle with cancer. He was born May 1, 1945 near Mechanicsburg,
Ohio a son of the late Clyde and Elizabeth (Millbaugh) Brown.
Cecil was a stranger to none. He loved checking out the new wells in his area, and taking his
two sister for Sunday rides. He was a
retired farmer at an early age. He
ground feed for others, was an engineer and gave up all for 30 years of truck
driving with his wife Nancy.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by
wonderful wife Nancy McNeely Brown in August of 2012, two sisters Carol
Alloway, and Bernice Dillon, three brothers Chester and Roy Brown and Warren
Starkey.
Surviving are three sisters Margaret (Jim) Dalrymple, Wilma
(Kenneth) Cline both of Antioch, and Alverna Campbell of Georgia, two brothers
Charles (Linda) Brown of Kansas, and Kenneth (Carol) Brown of Creston, Ohio,
several nieces and nephews, cousins and many-many friends.
Friends received from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, and from 11 a.m.
until time of Funeral Service at 1 p.m. Wednesday October 19, 2016 at the

Charles
B "Buster" Brown, 84, of Reno, passed away Aug. 9, 2016.
He was
born in Stafford, Ohio on May 22, 1932, to the late Hubert and Maude Leasure
Brown.
He had
worked at BFGoodrich and then retired from RJF International. He was an avid
golfer and enjoyed working on cars. He was a member of The Marietta Church of
Christ and The American Legion Post 64. He was a member of the 82nd Airborne,
US Army 1952-1954.
He is
survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Mary Margaret Erb Brown; four
children, Charleton Brown (Janet), Marla Brown, Melanie Dishong (Carl Jr.) of
Marietta and Mona Chesnutt (Joe) of Waterford; several grandchildren; and
great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; one brother, Don Brown (Susan); one
sister, Diane Minniefield; and many close friends and Church family.
In
addition to his parents, "Buster" was preceded in death by three
brothers, Rick, Denny and Franklin Brown; and one sister, Joan Thomas.
The funeral
service will be 11 a.m. Friday at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home in
Marietta, with Bob Feathers officiating. The family will be present from 5-8
p.m. Thursday and for one hour prior to the service on Friday. According to his
wishes he will be cremated following the services.

A. Brown, age 94, of Westerville, Ohio passed away August 12, 2016 in his home
after a battle with cancer. He was born
in Woodsfield, Ohio August 6, 1922 a son of the late Oscar Roscoe (Ross) and
Ora O. Brown.
Roger
graduated from Woodsfield High School in 1941.
He was a member of the Church of the Messiah United Methodist Church in
Westerville, Ohio.
He had
many interest in life. Roger loved
being outdoors, gardening, being with his family, and always helping others.
Roger
was a US Army Veteran, serving in World War II in the 10th Armored
Division. He was a Staff Sargent and
tank commander. He was in the Battle of the Bulge among other battles in
Europe. Roger was a member of The
American Legion. He worked as a Tool
and Die Maker at Timken Roller Bearing, White Westinghouse, North American
Rockwell, and Boeing. He was preceded
in death by his parents, sister Roberta Friday Nehrenz, and brother Robert
Brown.
He is
survived by his wife of 72 years, Helen Cronin Brown of Westerville, Ohio, a
daughter Darla (Paul) Reich of Middletown, Ohio, a son Roger C. (Anna) Brown of
Woodsfield, Ohio and two grandchildren Kirk (Wendy) Reich of Middletown, and
Kori (Scott) Markle of Middletown, and three great grandchildren, Rylie Markle,
Lincoln Markle, and Graham Reich, and nephew and nieces: Dick (Joyce) Brown,
Sue (Keith) Miller, Nancy Williams, and Linda Kilpatrick, Marsha (Mike) Sexton,

May 25, 2016 in Arbors at Woodsfield, OH.
She was born July 7, 1940 in Marietta, OH, a daughter of
the late Elizabeth Cline.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Sardis Church of
Christ.
In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her
husband, Donald Eugene Brown.
Survivors include five sons: Michael (Beth) Brown of
Sardis, OH, Kelly (Kristy) Brown of Manassas, VA, Dennis Brown of Newport, OH,
Jody (Stacey) Brown of New Martinsville, WV and Rodney Brown of Columbus, OH; a
brother, Gene (Linda) Cline of Duffy, OH; eleven grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren.

William Mathew Brown Sr., 72, passed away Saturday,
September 10, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center main campus.
William was born August 27, 1944 at home in Woodsfield,
Ohio, the son of Clyde C. and Stella J. (Thompson) Brown.
He attended Woodsfield High School and was drafted to the
U.S. Army in March of 1965 and served until May of 1967 where he was stationed
in Germany as a tank driver and an expert rifleman. William was awarded the
National Defense Service Medal and was honorably discharged as a sergeant. He
retired in 1994 from Taylor Winfield after many years of service where he
worked as a machine assembler.
William is survived by his loving wife of 49 years Susan D.
Brown; one son, William Mathew Brown Jr. of Jefferson, OH.; one daughter,
Sherry L. Murray of North Jackson; six grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren. William is also
survived by two sisters, Mary Bartlett of Niles and Alice Sersich of Warren and
one brother, Donald Brown of Graysville, OH.
Besides his parents, William was preceded in death by two
sisters, Kathrine Hanlon, and Judy Wallace, as well as three brothers, Robert,
Ronald, and Melvin Brown.

Charles and Jessie (Davis) Garrett.
Helen was a former lunch helper at Hampden Elementary School
and a nursery caregiver at the Mechanicsburg Naval Depot. She was a member of
the Silver Spring Presbyterian Church, Mechanicsburg where she was involved in
the Crafty Ladies group. Helen loved to play cards and Bingo. She was very
devoted to her family and loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband Robert M.
Bullock; two brothers, Wayne and Fred Garrett; three sisters, Letha Landefeld,
Eleanor Stegner and Kathryn Moore. Surviving are her children, Robert E.

Lloyd “Boob” Burian died October 28, 2016 at West Virginia
University after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born December 10, 1948 a son of the late Lloyd and
Palma (Aspen) Burian in Bellaire, Ohio.
Lloyd was a coal miner for over thirty years and worked for
American Energy in the Century Mine.
He loved the outdoors, was an avid hunter and fisherman and
enjoyed woodworking.
He married Vicki (Hartley) Burian on May 20, 2011.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents as well as a
sister, Alana Rejonis.
He is survived by his wife
and his children, Deanna Caldwell of Powhatan Point, Ohio, Shayla (Brandon)
Shane of Martins Ferry, Ohio, and two step sons, Jason (Gabrielle) Brunner of
Clarington, Ohio and Garren Brunner of Bellsville, Ohio as well as Dylen.
In addition he is survived by his brother Gary (Beverly)

a member of the Caldwell McDonald’s Coffee Clatch.Eileen loved to paint and she
won many ribbons and awards for her artwork. She was also a member of the
Southeastern Watercolor Society.
In addition to her parents, she
is preceded in death by her husband, Delbert W. Butler, whom she married July
22, 2000, and who died May 21, 2009; one sister, Maxine Jackson; one brother,
Kenneth E. Perkins, Jr.; and one step-son, Timmy Butler.

Minnie V. Butler, 97, of Clarington, OH, died Sunday, December
11, 2016 at Wetzel Co. Hospital, New Martinsville.
She was born November 23, 1919, New Martinsville, the daughter
of the late William and Florida Conley Ueltschey.
Minnie was a farmer, a member of the United Brethern Church
and Zion Grange.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her
husband, James Butler; a daughter Shirley Litman; six brothers, Thamer, Albert,
Herb, Charlie, Paul, and John; four sisters, Josephine, Goldie, Mary and Mable.
Survivors include two sons, Dannie (Rose) Butler and Dale
(Karen) Butler all of Clarington; several grandchildren, great- grandchildren
and numerous kin.
Family will receive friends Wednesday from 4-8 pm at Grisell
Funeral Home 125 Clarinda Dr. Clarington, OH where services will be held
Thursday at 11am. with Pastor Bruce Taylor officiating.
Interment will follow at Mt. Union Cemetery, Clarington, OH.

Hilda Buyher, 90 of Powhatan Point, Ohio died Monday
January 5, 2015 at her home.
She was born September 2, 1925 a daughter of the late John
and Winona (Brown) Bellville in Dilles Bottom, Ohio.
Hilda graduated from Powhatan High School and worked for Lorain
Products in Electronics.
She loved to travel, sew and enjoyed watching football and
golf.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings,
John Bellville, Louise Brown, Rose Eikleberry, Vernis Gibson and Vernard
Bellville as well as her daughter Brenda Lasko and a grandson Stephen Lasko.
Hilda is survived by her children Gary Buyher of Chandler,
AZ and Marlene Slater of Powhatan Point, OH. She is also survived by her nephew
Issac (Gale) Brown of Bealsville and a niece Verna Rosen from Powhatan Point,
OH as well as four grandchildren, John Lasko, Michael Lasko, Gene Burnworth and
Christie Burnworth; four great grandchildren, Matthew Lasko, Preston Lasko,
Cassey Hall and Charles Hall and three great great grandchildren, Christopher,
Cassandra and Caleb Hall.
In accordance with her wishes no formal viewing or services
will take place.
Burial will be in Powhatan
Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

Melvin W. Byler, 19, of Summerfield (Calais community), passed
away Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2016, at his home.
He was born near Summerfield on Aug. 8, 1997, a son of Wallace
and Kathy Gingerich Byler.
In addition to his parents he is survived by seven sisters,
five brothers, a grandfather and two grandmothers.
He was preceded in death by a grandfather.
Funeral services were held at the family residence at 29052
Miltonsburg-Calais Rd., Summerfield, Friday, Dec. 9. Burial followed in the
Amish Cemetery, Calais.

James Calvert, 59, of Byesville, died Sunday (September 25,
2016) at The Ohio State University Medical Center, Columbus, with his family by
his side.
He was born June 25, 1957 in Cambridge, son of the late James
W. Calvert and Linda (Morris) Calvert Huffstutler.
Mr. Calvert had worked as a chef at Cracker Barrel and at the
former Cambridge State Hospital.
He attended Trinity Baptist Church.
He loved sitting on the porch with family and friends, as well
as camping out and cooking on the grill. He was a former bowler and an avid fan
of the Cleveland Browns.
He was a graduate of Cambridge High School.
Mr. Calvert was a US Navy veteran.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his
wife, Dorothy (Wallace) Calvert.
He is survived by a daughter, Skyler Alexis Calvert of
Cambridge; three stepsons, Ray Wallace, Danny Hardy, and Richard Hardy all of
Cambridge; two stepdaughters, Melisa (& Andy) Black and Shara (& Rocky)
Black all of Cambridge; two brothers, Tim Calvert of Byesville and Vince
Calvert of Canton; a sister, Debbie (& Butch) Fulton of Byesville; two
stepbrothers; two stepsisters; four stepgrandchildren, Chris Black, Owen Black,
Tisha Oilerman, and Lynn Corbin; a stepgreat-grandchild, Cheyanne Oilerman; the
mother of his daughter, Kitty; and his pet dog, Buddy Bear.

Ruth L. Camden, 94, of Woodsfield, Ohio passed away
Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at the Arbors of Woodsfield, Woodsfield, Ohio.
She was born near Stafford, Ohio on March 26, 1922 a
daughter of the late James Carlos Luburgh and Minnie Needs Luburgh.
Ruth was a retired secretary and purchasing agent for the
former Klingbeil Company and the former Dant and Russell Lumber Company,
Columbus, Ohio. She was a member of the Woodsfield Church of Christ,
Woodsfield, Ohio where she was a member of the quilting ministry and
secretary/treasurer of the Golden Sixty’s and Young At Heart. She was also a
member of the Woodsfield Homemakers Club and a former board member of the Ohio
Hills Health Service.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by
her husband, Robert G. “Budd” Camden on March 9, 1993; two sisters, Betty June
Luburgh and Virginia Devore; and a brother, James Richard Luburgh.
Surviving are one sister, Ruby Martin of Woodsfield, Ohio;
several nieces and nephews including a special nephew, Gary (Sharon) Keevert of
Woodsfield, Ohio, and a special cousin, John (Vicky) Hawkins of Flushing, Ohio.

Wednesday, March 2, 2016, in the Arbors at Woodsfield. He was born March 17, 1923 in Belmont County,
a son of the late Russell and Loretta Walters Carle.
Emory was a retired employee of the former Conalco plant
near Hannibal; however, he was best known for his vocation of choice . . .
a cattleman with a life-long love for his Polled Herefords.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his
wife, Jean on May 11, 2012; a sister and brother-in-law Dorothy and LaVerne
“Buzz” Knuchel; a son-in-law, David Beveridge; and a great-grandson, Lincoln
Hunt.

away Friday, December 30, 2016 at the First Community Village in Columbus,
Ohio.
Georgianna was born March 4, 1934 in Summerfield, Ohio a
daughter of the late Herbert B. and Opal B. Long Carpenter.
Georgianna was a 1952 graduate of the Columbus Business
School; was employed as an executive secretary for the Battelle Corporation for
34 years, and was a member and treasurer of the Battelle Seniors. She was an
avid fan and supporter of the Ohio State University Athletics; a member of the
Buckeye Sideliners; and attended numerous athletic events both at home and
away. Georgianna was also a 50 year member of the Triangle Chapter Order of the
Eastern Star Columbus, Ohio. She was an avid reader, loved to travel, play
cards, especially euchre and Phase 10.

Ila Flontella Larrick Carpenter age 82, of Caldwell, OH, formerly
of Summerfield, OH passed away Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at the Summit Acres
Skilled Nursing & Rehab in Caldwell. She was born near Carlisle on January
13, 1934 the daughter of Tharcella Kuhn Larrick Smith and John R. Larrick who
both preceded her in death, along with a half-sister Sharon Larrick
Rominger.She was a member and raised her family in the St. Michael Catholic
Church in Carlisle, where she was also a member of their Catholic Women’s Club.
Later she became a member of the St. Stephen Catholic Church in Caldwell.
Ila’s four daughters and their families were her greatest
love. Those left behind that will miss her greatly are: Janet (the late Larry)
O’Brien, their sons Steven (Tecarrie) O’Brien and their children Madison and
Jamison, Mathew (Emily) O’Brien and their children Kadence and Shane. Janeen
(Kenny) Wise, and their children Rachel Wise and her son Joseph, Ryan (Andrea)
Wise and their daughters Vivian and Phoebe. Jane Smith and her daughters Sarah
(Jim) Lenner and their daughters Amelia and Georgia and Maryah Smith and her

12, 2016 in the Wheeling Hospital in Wheeling, West Virginia.
He was born March 16, 1937 in Shadyside, Ohio a son of the
late Norviel and Dorothy Gates Carpenter.
Jerry was a retired employee of the Ormet Corporation, a
member of the VFW Post 5565, American Legion Post 228 both of Powhatan Point,
Ohio, the Ormet Retirees and a veteran of the US Coast Guard.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his
first wife, Ruth O. Ramsay Carpenter on August 26, 2003.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Lou Jackson Carpenter, three
children, Jackie Lynn (Norman) Cooper of Pipe Creek, David Wayne Carpenter of
Tupelo, Mississippi and Roger Carpenter of Morgantown, West Virginia and one
brother, Danny (Linda) Carpenter of Key, Ohio. Also his granddaughter Colby
(Matt) Janowiecki of Toledo, Ohio and a great grandson, Jace Janowiecki.

She was an avid bingo player and enjoyed embroidery &
sewing.

husband, Charles Carpenter, who died March 21, 1998. They were married August 14,
1954. Also deceased is a daughter, Teresa Justice; and a sister, Martha Leach.
She is survived by two daughters, Tina (& Ed) Carrara of
Dillsburg PA and Melinda Carpenter of Summerfield; a brother, Clarence “Bud”
(& Judy) Johnson of Beloit; a sister, Doris Swinehart of Salem; four

Thomas Carpenter, 75, of Dennison, passed away on Sunday,
December 11, 2016, at Community Hospice in New Philadelphia.
Born July 11, 1941 in Calais,
Ohio, he was a son of the late Otto and Harriet L. (Leach) Carpenter. On
October 10, 1964, Tom married the former Donna D. Langdon who survives him
along with their children, Tina (Barrat) Carpenter-Ramnarine, Thomas (Marianne)
Carpenter, II and Randy Carpenter, and grandchildren, Cody, Cruz, Chloe,
Hillary, Jacob, McKade and Tanner.
He is also survived by his
siblings, Denny (Marvella) Carpenter, Wilma (Robert) Briggs, and Linda
Carpenter, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded
in death by siblings, Leonard Carpenter, Sr., Willian [sic–William]
Carpenter, Jake Carpenter, Clayton Carpenter, Sr., Beulah “Irene” Henry and
Wanda Miller.
Tom was a longtime member of
Dennison Foursquare Gospel Church who had worked 30 years for Cravat Coal
before retiring from National Stone and Gravel. He was a veteran of the U.S.
Army and had served in the Reserves, as well. He loved camping with his wife
and family and enjoyed many rounds of golf with his grandchildren. Most of all,
he just loved being home with his family.
Services, officiated by Pastor
Rod Phillips, will be held at 1pm on Wednesday, December 14, in the R.K.
Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison where visitation will be 11am-1pm before the
service.
Interment will follow in
Gnadenhutten-Clay Union Cemetery in Gnadenhutten with a military committal.

Saturday August 6, 2016 at the Marietta Memorial Hospital Marietta, Ohio. He was born March 27, 1935 in McCarr,
Kentucky a son of the late Thurman & Gracie Spencer Carter.
He was a US Air Force Veteran of the Korean War, was
retired from the Trucking Industry and had worked at Yellow Freight in
Cleveland. He was a member of the
Moffett-Fletcher United Methodist Church, former member of the Monroe County
Horseman’s Association, and the Ohio Horseman’s Council.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by
three brothers Raymond, Lee, and Okie Carter, and two sisters Eunice Thomas and
Edna Thacker.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years Alta Rhodes-Newell
Carter of Woodsfield who he married April 19, 1957, two daughters Anna (Roger)
Brown of Woodsfield, Elizabeth (William) Thomas of Rochester, New York, five
grandchildren Joshua, Jennifer, Brittany, Jonathan, and Michael, three great
grandchildren Sally, Seraphina, and Elaina, four sisters Bessie McBrayer, Janet
Miller, Opal Gottschalk and Violet Patton, and several nieces and nephews.

Clarksburg, WV.He was born on June 10, 1933 in Paden City, WV a son of the late
Raymond Paul and Daisy Lazear Chambers.Paul was a retired employee of the
former Ormet Corp., Hannibal, OH; a U.S. Army veteran; a member of the Paden
City Christian Church; a member of the V.F.W. Post #6327, Sistersville. He
loved fishing, hunting, camping and watching his son and grandson race cars.In
addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Rick Chambers and
one sister, Nancy Chaplin.
Surviving are his wife, Hollis “Holly” Lemasters Chambers; one
son: Ryan (Tammy) Chambers of Sistersville; one daughter: Rhonda Parsons of
Sistersville; one brother: Donald (Connie) Chambers of Paden City; three
grandchildren: Talan Chambers, Shae` Parsons and Paul “P.J” (Penny) Chambers;
two great grandchildren: Alexis and Chris Chambers.

Charles W. Christ, 92, formerly of Beallsville, Ohio, died
Saturday, January 16, 2016 in the Arbors at Streetsboro, Streetsboro, Ohio. He
was born November 26, 1923 in Akron, Ohio, a son of the late Ludlow
"BeBe" Samuel and Mary Edith Headley Christ. Charlie was a retired
machinist for F C Machine, Cuyahoga Falls, a US Army Veteran, serving in the
Glider Infantry during WWII; also he was a member of the Pleasant Ridge United
Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his
wife, Edna Rogers Christ on August 2, 2001; a son, Roger Christ, and a brother,
Chester Christ.
Surviving are two sons, James Christ of Akron and Dean
(Ruth) Christ of Georgia? a daughterinlaw, Connie of Spencer, WV; three
grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Thursday, January 21 at the Harper
Funeral Home, Beallsville from 11 AM until the time of the funeral service at 1

Gerald E. Christman, 76, of Lafferty and formerly of
Batesville, died Monday (October 10, 2016) at Cumberland Pointe of St.
Clairsville.He was born May 9, 1940 in Monroe County OH, son of the late Alva
Christman and Pauline (Kahrig) Christman. Mr. Christman retired from the Valley
Mining Coal Company, where he had worked as a heavy equipment operator. He was
Methodist by faith. He was a former member of the Ohio District Governor
Ruritan Club. Mr. Christman was a US Army veteran, having served during the
Vietnam War.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his
wife, Mary Ella (Carpenter) Christman, who died January 15, 2010. They were
married on May 12, 1961. Also deceased are two brothers, Alva Christman Jr. and
Emerson Christman. He is survived by a son, David (& Patricia) Christman of
Canton; three daughters, Rhonda (& Jeff) Smith of Morristown, Julie (&
Timmy) Kyer of St. Clairsville, and Lora “Buffy” Fador of Lafferty; a brother,
Ellis Christman of Quaker City; four sisters, Eloise Eschbaugh of Byesville,
Shirley Stephen of Caldwell, Dianna (& Dick) Sams of Marietta, and Evelyn
(& Carl) Hartly of Marietta; six grandchildren, T.J (& Amanda) Tharp,
Amber (& Ian) Thomas, Jesse Kyer, Casie Kyer, Ashley McBride, and Katie
Christman; five great-grandchildren, Owen Lee Williams, Ella Mae Thomas, Jeremy

Solomon E. “Junior” Christman Jr., 91, of Quaker City, died
Thursday, May 12, 2016 at The Astoria Place of Barnesville. He was born June
22, 1924 in Quaker City, son of the late Solomon E. Christman Sr. and Viola
Marie (Bentz) Christman.
Mr. Christman was a lifelong farmer and a member of the
Guernsey County Farm Bureau.
He was Methodist by faith.
Mr. Christman was a 1942 graduate of Quaker City High
School.
He is survived by a sister Catherine Yockey of Quaker City;
two nephews, Bill (Sandy) Yockey and Bob (Karen) Yockey; two great-nephews,
Todd Yockey and Roger (Kari) Yockey; and seven great-nieces, Rhonda (Todd)

Ciesielczyk 1947-2016
Peter "Pete" Ciesielczyk, 69, of Perry Township,
passed away Wednesday, May 11, 2016. Pete was born on April 23, 1947 in
Marietta, Ohio the son of Peter and Dorothy (Mallett) Ciesielczyk. He was a
1965 graduate of Perry High School. Pete attended Malone University where he
received his Master's degree in Education. He taught at both Richville and Lohr
Elementary Schools for a combined 38 years. Pete was a past fire chief of
Richville Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of Mud Run Gun Club, North
Lawrence Fish & Game Club, and Richville United Church of Christ. Pete
enjoyed boating, skiing, and traveling. He also loved dogs. He was preceded in
death by his father Peter I. Ciesielczyk.
He is survived by his wife, Debra (Frederick) Ciesielczyk
whom he married on July 7, 2006; his mother, Dorothy Ciesielczyk; his stepsons,
Kyle and Cory Isler; his brothers, Paul Ciesielczyk and Gary (Amy) Ciesielczyk;
and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Pete's life will be held on Tuesday, May
17, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Richville U.C.C. Burial will follow at Sunset Hills

served in the U.S. Army, member of American Legion Marne Post 28, enjoyed
traveling, fishing and meeting with the Ormet retirees and member of Steelton
Church of Christ.
In addition to his parents, he
was preceded in death by a daughter, Sherry Starkey; son, Monte Ray Clegg; two
sisters, Mae Brookover and Monna Ann Raber.
Surviving are his wife of
sixty-eight years, Margaret (Cecil) Clegg; two sons, Chuck (Mary) Clegg and
Robin (Debbie) Clegg both of New Martinsville, WV; son-in-law, Mike Starkey of

Mine Workers Local 1785. Darrell enjoyed farming, his horses, and coon hunting.

sisters, Darlene Lucas and Mary Jane Lucas; a granddaughter, CyGy Nicole

Vernon L. "Barry" Cline, 90, of Pickerington,
Ohio (formerly of Woodsfield, Ohio) passed away Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at
Mt. Carmel East Hospital in Reynoldsburg, Ohio.
He was born in Antioch, Ohio on December 13, 1925 a son
of the late Faunt and Mary Stacey Cline.
Vernon was a U.S. Army veteran, he served as a truck
driver and later as an instructor in rifle marksmanship at Camp Fannin Texas
and Fort McClellan, Alabama. He was
decorated with the American Theater Ribbon Good Conduct Medal and also a W.W.
II Victory Medal. Vernon retired from Conalco, Hannibal, Ohio; was a member of
the Woodsfield United Methodist Church, Woodsfield, Ohio where he was a member
of the Friendly Class and served as a past President and also served as Lay
person for several years at the Methodist Conference in Lakeside, Ohio; member
of the Rolling Hills Ruritan Club where he was a Zone Lt. Governor and past
President. Vernon was a long time member of the Monroe County Farm Bureau, he
enjoyed making apple butter with John Ackerman and the rest of the group. He
also enjoyed the monthly dinner meetings and socializing with the 5760 Retirees
of Conalco/Olin Plant. With all of the organizations he participated in, Vernon
still had time for sharing the labors of his gardening with friends and family,
taking bus trips throughout the U.S. with the Buckeye Tour Group, feeding the
birds and squirrels, and relaxing with his dog Amber.
Vernon was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years,
Mary Anette English Cline on December 23, 2015, daughter Linda (Cline) Netting
of Gahanna, Ohio, and his brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his son, Michael (Jacky) Cline of
Pickerington, Ohio; brother in law John B. English of Lawrenceburg, Kentucky;
sister Pat (Dan) Pikula of Gahanna, Ohio; a son-in-law Chuck Netting of
Westerville, Ohio; grandchildren, Justin (Amy) Cline of Baltimore, Ohio, Lori
(Todd) Tenaglia of Westerville, Ohio, Nicole(Matt) Kruger of South Jordan,

Darrell Gene Cochran, 82, of New Matamoras passed away peacefully
at home on Sunday, July 3rd, 2016 surrounded by his family and friends. He
graduated from Matamoras High School in 1954. He married the love of his life,
Helen Jean Smith, on January 22nd, 1960. He was employed with Ormet Corporation
where he retired after 40 years of service in 1999. He was a member of the
McConnelsville Church of Christ. He was a member of the Matamoras VFW Post
6387. He served in the United States Army from 1956 until 1958 and spent 18
months in Germany.
He enjoyed bowling, pitching
horseshoes, classic cars, ginseng hunting and spending time with his family. He
assisted in starting the Mighty Midgets basketball program in New Matamoras
where he coached for several years. He was born to the late Alfred Ray and
Hazel Cochran on May 5th, 1934 in Beavertown, Ohio.
He is survived by five children,
Steve (Cheryl) Cochran of New Matamoras, Jeff (Covena) Cochran of Robards,
Kentucky, Rebecca Beck of Columbus, Ohio, Philip Cochran of Henderson, Kentucky
and Mary Ellen (Dustin) Daugherty of Newport, Ohio; special friend Belva Dingey
of McConnelsville, Ohio and her two sons Dave Dingey and Jeff Dingey;
Grandchildren Stephanie Cochran, Kristie Morris, Shayna Morris, Crystal Fox,
Brandy Edgar, D.J. Cochran, Terra Cochran, Cammie Cochran, Shelby Cochran,
Kelsea Daugherty, Kylie Daugherty, Kyle Daugherty and Daryl Beck; eleven
great-grandchildren; one brother, Arthur Dean Cochran of New Matamoras, and
several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his
wife of 38 years, Helen Jean (Smith) Cochran who passed away on June 1st, 1998;
brothers William Cochran, Edward Cochran and sister Luella (Cochran) Armstrong.

July 7th at 11:00 at the Hadley Funeral Home in New Matamoras, Ohio with David

about playing soccer, skateboarding, and spending time with family and friends.

August 10, 2016. He worked as a timberman, deckhand on the lake boats and on
the Ohio River, and he also drove a truck for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents Elmer and Mary
Clutter Conley; two brothers, George and Gib Conley and a sister Blanche
Yonley.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years Karen Lee Conley,
whom he married on August 4, 1976; one daughter Danyel Conley of Huber Heights,
Ohio and one son Edward Lee Conley (Erin) of Mentor, Ohio; two granddaughters,
Kristen and Tarissa Mitchell and two grandsons Noah and Brennan Conley; one sister

James W. “Jim” Cook, 80, of Barnesville, Ohio, died Friday,
December 30, 2016 at Barnesville Hospital. Born October 16, 1936 in
Barnesville, Ohio, Jim was the son of the late Alva G. Cook and Hallie O. Hall
Cook.A very active member of Assumption Catholic Church, Jim always gave moral
support to parish activities. He was a member of the Barnesville Chamber of
Commerce, Pumpkin Festival, Kiwanis, Elks, 4th Degree member of the Knights of
Columbus, and Senior Citizen Center. Jim was a loving and devoted husband,
father, and grandfather, who was strong in his faith and giving beyond words.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by infant
sons, Joseph Anthony Cook and John Allen Cook; brothers, Carl, Donald, and
Delbert Cook; sisters, Bertha Cook and Patty Ward; and son-in-law, Eugene
Milhoan.Jim is survived by his best friend and love of his life of 59 years,
Evelyn Cook of Barnesville, Ohio; daughters, Rose (Larry) Grear of Barnesville,
Ohio, Beth (Mike) Louden of Beallsville, Ohio; 11 grandchildren; 19
great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and brother, George (Betty)
Cook of Jacksonville, Florida.

while in McConnelsville, OH on Saturday, August 6, 2016. Tony was born August
25, 1975 in New Martinsville, WV, son of James Leek of Ohio and Debbie (Bob)
Freeland of New Martinsville, WV. He loved riding four wheelers, fishing and
time spent with his family and he attended the Immanuel Baptist Church. He was
preceded in death by his grandmother, Betty Cook.

Carlos Ray (Pastor Carl) Cooper, 83, of South Charleston, OH,
went to be with the Lord November 1, 2016.
He was born on February 10, 1933 to the late Orville R. and
Mary (Bowling) Cooper in Charleston, West Virginia.
Carl was the founding pastor at Riverside Baptist Church in
Clarington and a retired Pastor of the Southeastern Baptist Church in South
Charleston and will be missed by those who loved him.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 63
years, Jane Cooper; daughters Teresa (Jim) Clark, Vicki (Dr. Mike) Billow, and
Lori (Jeff) Kraus; sisters Pat Lyons and Terry Jaeger; grandchildren Carla
(Scott) Pittman, Dr. Damien (Tracy) Billow Jonathan (Amie) Clark, Dr. Megan
(Jake) Billow, Galen (Emily) Billow, Justin Kraus, and Cameron Kraus; as well
as three great-grandchildren, Alivia, Alaina, and Addilyn.
In addition to his parents, Carl is preceded in death by his
two brothers, Earl and Jack Cooper.
Visitation and funeral were held on November 5, 2016, at the

Joseph “Joe” H. Cooper, 84, of Paden City, WV died
Saturday, January 23, 2016 at his home while surrounded by his family.
“Joe” was born July 4, 1931 in
Tyler County, WV, son of the late Theodore and Idona (Kimble) Cooper.
He was a retired rolling mill
operator for the former Conalco Corp, a proud sharp shooter in the U.S. Marine
Corp., loved hunting, fishing and cooking and a life-long member of the Buck
Run Church of Christ. He currently served as a Deacon at the church. Buck Run
church holds a special place in his heart, for that is where he met Ms. Nancy.
In addition to his parents, he
was preceded in death by fourteen siblings.
Surviving are his wife of sixty
years, Nancy J. (Slider) Cooper; three sons, Tom (Lue Ann) Cooper of Paden
City, WV, Doug (Kay) Cooper of Middlebourne, WV and Scott (Jean) Cooper of
Paden City, WV; daughter, De (Ed) Klug of Proctor, WV; ten grandchildren, Becky
(Joe) Thomas, Sarah Cooper, Kari (Chris) Camerlin, Nicholas (Rupi) Klug, Daniel

Leisa Faye Copley, 59, of Bethesda, Ohio, went to be with
her Lord, Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at Liza’s Place, after a courageous
battle with cancer. Born October 23, 1956 in Morgantown, West Virginia, she was
the daughter of James Given and Doris Jean Smith Given.
Leisa is survived by her husband, Charley Copley of
Bethesda, Ohio; daughter, Stacey Copley (Chris Scurlock) of Pleasant City,
Ohio; son, James (Crystal) Copley of Olathe, Kansas; parents, James and Doris Given
of Woodsfield, Ohio; brother, Chuck Given of Lewisville, Ohio; German daughter,
Stephanie (Stephen) Zimmermann of Mammendorf, Germany; and Argentina daughter,
Patricia Groeting of Cordoba Argentina.
A 1976 graduate of Woodsfield High School and 1977 graduate
of Wheeling Career College, she worked for Jack’s Surplus City, Woodsfield
Nursing and Rehab, and Union Local Schools. She enjoyed her volunteer service
with Project Manna (Union Local Food Bank), Barnesville Hospital, and
Barnesville Health Care Center (now Astoria Place). Leisa attended Bethesda
Christian Church, where she was active in Samaritan Missionary Ladies and
Prayer Warriors.
Leisa was an inspiration to other patients during her time
at Liza’s Place and her true passion, no matter the circumstance, was to put
God first, then the needs of others, and lastly, herself. This, she knew, was
the recipe of real joy.
Family and friends are welcome to visit, Friday from 2 to 8

MANGUM - Funeral for Betty Jean Cossey, 80, will be at 10
a.m. Monday, May 9, 2016, at First Presbyterian Church, Mangum.
Mrs. Cossey departed for her heavenly home Thursday, May 5,
2016, in Oklahoma City.
Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery under direction
of Greer Funeral Home, Mangum.
She was born Nov. 16, 1935, in Enid to Cora M. Leach Turpin
and George W. Turpin. She moved with her family to Elk City, where she attended
Elk City Schools and graduated in May 1954. She was a member of the Lady Elks
basketball team, playing forward on the six-on-six team. She married her high
school sweetheart, Jack Cossey, on June 6, 1954, in Yuma, Ariz. They
established a home in San Diego, Calif., while Jack served in the Navy. After
leaving the Navy, they returned to Elk City, where they lived while Jack
attended Southwestern State College School of Pharmacy. After his graduation,
they moved to Mangum to work at Moad Drug Store. To this union, four children
were born - three boys and one girl.
Betty was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian church, and
on moving to Mangum, she joined First Presbyterian Church of Mangum. She served
in many roles in the church, including more than 30 years as a church
treasurer. Betty ws a loving wife and mother to her family, which she
considered her calling in life. She enjoyed traveling, reading and playing
games with her family.
Survivors include her husband, of the home; three sons:
David, Edmond; Donald, Edmond; and Douglas and wife Libby, Altus; a daughter,
Donna and husband Larry Bull, Mangum; six grandchildren: Amber Bull-Diaz and
husband Gene, Chickasha; Abigal Bull, Chickasha; Jacob and Justin Cossey,
Edmond; Madison Cossey, Cheny, Wash; and Joshua Cossey, Altus; and a
great-grandchild, Finley Diaz, Chickasha.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers:
Billy, Donnie and Bobby Turpin.

Bernard C. Craig, 80, of Beallsville, Ohio died Tuesday,
June 21, 2016 at his home. He was born May 10, 1936 near Laings, Ohio, a son of
the late Delbert and Rose Alleman Craig.
He was retired from Laborers Union #1149; however, his
friends and family knew that he would never retire from his vocation of choice
. . . farming. Bernard attended East Sunbury Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two
brothers, Harold Craig and Dean Craig, also by one sister, Goldie Craig.
Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Eleanor Perkins Craig;
three daughters, Delores (Virgil) Boughner, Donna (Kevin) Neiswanger, and Diana
(Rusty) Stephen, all of Beallsville; one brother, Paul Craig of Sardis; four
sisters, Helen Craig and Evelyn Craig, both of Columbus, Doris Craig of
Marietta, and Nina (Terry) Ice of Woodsfield; eight grandchildren, Trisha
(Travis) Dillon, Ryan Boughner, and Tiffany (Jake) Klayko, Chelsea Neiswanger,

Irvin A. Crawford, 96, a former resident of Jerusalem, Ohio
died Friday, October 7, 2016 in Emerald Pointe Nursing and Rehab Center,
Barnesville, Ohio. He was born June 4, 1920 near Miltonsburg, a son of the late
Edward and Mary Ruble Crawford. Irvin was a retired farmer and also a retired
employee of the former United Dairy in Barnesville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his
wife, Opal Carpenter Crawford on March 30, 2002; a son-in-law, Dick Knuchel; a
grandson, Billy Joe; a brother, Fred Crawford; and a sister, Belle Mowery; a
great great granddaughter, Maddie.
Surviving are two sons, Floyd (Linda) Crawford of
Pickerington and Rick Crawford of Beallsville; two daughters, Shirley Knuchel
and Patsy (Fritz) Pack, both of Jerusalem; a sister, Hilda Crawford of Lima; seven

Helen E. Crum, age 86, of Caldwell, Ohio, died Thursday,
December 22, 2016, at Marietta Memorial Hospital. She was born May 27, 1930, at
her family home in Monroe County, daughter of the late Fredrick and Mary
Burkhardt Marshall. Mrs. Crum was a 1949 graduate of Bethel High School in
Marr. She was employed as a cook at the Fulda School until its closing, and she
was also employed as a housekeeper for St. Mary’s Parish rectory for 32 years.
She owned and operated Fulda Catering from 1987 to 2009. She was a member of
St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Fulda and she was a
member and past president of its Catholic Women’s Club. She also served as an
advisor for the Fulda Hilltoppers 4-H Club for 25 years. She loved to cook,
quilt, crochet, and create beaded crafts.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her
husband of 55 years, Delbert F. Crum, who died January 16, 2009; four brothers,
Harry, Ralph, Lawrence, and John Marshall; one sister, Ava Miller; three
brothers-in-law, and three sisters-in-law. Surviving are one son, Mark
(Sherrie) Crum of Queen Creek, Arizona; three daughters, Rebecca Hill, Barbara (Ronald)
Crum and Brenda Michel, all of Caldwell; one sister, Sue Behrendt of Canton;
one sister-in-law, Vivian Marshall Piatt; three grandsons, Travis (Angela)

Martha Gladys Crum, 95, of Waverly, Tennessee (formerly
of Graysville, Ohio) passed away Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at the Centennial
Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee.
She was born at the family farm on Pleasant Ridge, near
Graysville, Ohio, on September 3, 1920.
She was a daughter of the late Madison and Zora Nevada Mobberly Gardner. For most of her life she lived in the house
her grandfather, Amos Mobberly, built in 1887 after his return from the Civil
War.
Gladys was a homemaker and a member of the Pleasant Ridge
Church of Christ near Graysville, Ohio. She was also a member of the former
Graysville Homemakers Club. For over
four decades, she wrote “Crum's Corner” for the Monroe County Beacon.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by
her husband, George Woodrow Crum; two brothers, Preston Gardner and Madison
Junior Gardner; a sister, Grethel Winland; a great grandson, Eric Rose; and a
grandson, Philip Palmer.
Surviving are one daughter Patricia (George) Palmer of
Waverly, Tennessee; two sons, Jerry (Marie) Rose of Woodsfield, Ohio, Martin
(Tanya) Crum of Springfield, Tennessee; seven grandchildren; multiple great
grandchildren and also great-great grandchildren.

CUICHTA, Chester B., 77, of Glen Dale, W.Va. died Sunday,
July 24, 2016 at home surrounded by his family. He was born March 22, 1939 in
Benwood, W.Va., a son of the late Walter E. and Mary (Ronevich) Cuichta. He was
Protestant by faith and a retired coal miner from Shoemaker Mine.
He was a member of the Moose Lodge 1087 in Moundsville, The
Moundsville Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 499, where he was past president,
and past president of Local UMWA #1473. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy
aboard the U.S.S. Huntington.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one
son, Chester Allan Cuichta, two brothers, Andy Cuichta and Irvin Cuichta, and
two sisters, Jane Ebbert and MaryAnn Schultz. He is survived by his loving
wife, Barbara (Allen) Cuichta of Glen Dale; two sons, Kevin Lee (Jennifer)
Cuichta of Moundsville, and David Lee (Ana) Cuichta of East Brunswick, N.J.;
one brother, Walter Cuichta of Interlachen, Fla.; three grandchildren, Kevin
Jr., Rebecca, and Emily; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and
nephews.

Mary Ann “Mickey” Ueltschy Whitfield Curtis, age 76, of
McMechen, WV passed away at her home, Saturday, July 23, 2016.
She was born August 18, 1939 the daughter of the late Herbert
Cecil and Ruth Ann St. Meyers Ueltschy.
Mary Ann retired from Reynolds Memorial Hospital where she
worked in Housekeeping.
She loved being with her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a
sister, Carolyn Westmoreland and a grandson, Michael August Parks.
Survivors include former husband and long time companion, Tom
Whitfield of McMechen; a son, Rick Whitfield; three daughters, Sue (Connie
Moon) Whitfield of Indiana, Julie (Tom) Mitchell of Moundsville, and Dianna
(Donnie) Hall of McMechen; 11 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; her dog,

Melvin W. Dailey, 66, of Woodsfield, Ohio passed away
Thursday, February 18, 2016 at his home.
He was born in Zanesville, Ohio on August 25, 1949 a son
of the late Herzel and Eunice Freitag Dailey.
He was a retired coal miner and a member of the United
Mine Workers Association. Melvin honorably served his country in the U.S. Army
during the Vietnam War. He was a protestant by faith and enjoyed hunting,
fishing, working on cars with his son Jason, cruising around in his car, joking
with people, sports and most especially being around his family and
grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by
his half-sister, Doris Weber.
Surviving are two daughters, Melanie (Michael) Bastin of
Coats, North Carolina, Amanda (Jimmie) Walsh of Willow Spring, North Carolina;
a son, Jason (Jennifer) Dailey of Lewisville, Ohio; two sisters, Garna Corbin
of Barnesville, Ohio, Debbie (James) McKelvey of Clarington, Ohio; a brother,

Powhatan.

Elmer Datkuliak, age 92 of Clarington, OH, died Sunday,
June 5, 2016 in Liza’s Place, Wheeling, WV. He was born December 24, 1923 in
Powhatan Point, OH, a son of the late John and Elizabeth Wasco Datkuliak.
He was a retired boat pilot at the #1 coal mine, Powhatan
Point, U.S. Army WWII veteran and a member of St. John’s United Church of
Christ, Powhatan Point and the UMWA.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his
wife, Elvira Roth Datkuliak on May 31, 2015; three brothers, George, John, and
Edwin Datkuliak and six sisters, Ellen Edwards, Mary Brown, Clara Lehman, Elsie
Datkuliak, Edith Brown, and Ethel Ramser.
Survivors include two sons, Ronald (Karen) Datkuliak of
Powhatan Point and Larry (Helen) Datkuliak of Melbourne, FL; five
grandchildren, Reuben (Amy) Datkuliak and Levi Datkuliak, both of Powhatan
Point, David (Victoria) Datkuliak of Cameron, NC, Steven Datkuliak of
Gainesville, FL and Lisa Datkuliak of Melbourne, FL; five great grandchildren,

several nieces and nephews.

Margaret E. “Eileen” Davis, age 95, of Stockport, Ohio,
passed away Thursday, September 8, 2016, at Marietta Memorial Hospital. She was
born August 3, 1921, in East Union, the eldest daughter of the late Ralph “Joe
Pete” and Margaret Poling Archer. She was a 1938 graduate of Summerfield High
School, and during World War II, she was employed as a telephone operator in
Zanesville. Following the war, Eileen married her husband, Ralph, and together
they owned and operated a dairy in Caldwell, and a beef operation in Morgan
County. In her later years, she farmed along with her sons, Brad and Jeff. She
attended East Union United Methodist Church, and she enjoyed working on
crossword puzzles. She loved being with and helping her grandchildren and
great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she
is preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Ralph Davis, whom she married in
1949, and who died in 1980; one son, Jeffrey Davis, who died in 1992; one
sister, Faye Crabtree; two brothers, Carlos Archer and John Archer; and infant
brother and sister, Ralph Archer, Jr. and Leona Archer.
Surviving are one son, Bradley
K. (Kathy M.) Davis of Stockport; four grandchildren, Andrea Stroud of
Lawrenceburg, Indiana, April Davis of Beverly, and Will Davis and Art Davis,
both of Stockport; 7 great-grandchildren, Joshua Stroud, Reilly Stroud, Cohen
Hopkins, Aidan Hopkins, Jefferson Davis, Quintin Davis, and Maya Davis; two
sisters, Lucille Bates of East Union and Nancy (Junior) Howell of Cambridge;
one brother, Marvin (Leitha) Archer of Olathe, Kansas; and many special nieces
and nephews.

Annie L. Dillon, 81, of Jerusalem, Ohio, died Thursday,
December 29, 2016 at the Arbors of Woodsfield Nursing Facility. She was born
August 10, 1935 near Beallsville, a daughter of the late Melville Wilson and
Anna Laura Reed McFrederick. She was a member of the Belmont Ridge Christian
Church, a 4-H advisor, and a member of the former Beallsville Pythian Sisters.
Annie enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren play sports, going to
garage sales, and camping at the Monroe County Fair. One of her greatest joys
was playing country music; she loved time spent performing with various local
bands, including the "Country Swingers" and "Breakin'
Even."
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by
two brothers, Joe and Reed McFrederick; a sister, Mary Ellen Howell, two
grandsons, Troy Dion Swoyer and Charley Jon Dillon.
Surviving are her loving husband of 64 years, Donnie
Dillon; six children, Donna (Bill) Weber, Randy (Sharon) Dillon, Mac (Ilene)
Dillon, and Barney Dillon, all of Jerusalem, Nancy (Dave) Morris of Alledonia
and Audrey Dillon of Barnesville; a brother, Rod McFrederick (Helen Doudna) of
Beallsville and a sister, Miriam (Delbert) Cornett of Zanesville; 19
grandchildren, Daina Sharples, Bill Anderson, Chris Anderson, Amy Caldwell,
Liza Spence, Travis Dillon, Nathan Carleton, Zac Carleton, Erin Diosi, Dustin
Dillon, Jani Wheeler, Jodi Frye, Kyla Morris, Annie Phillips, Dove Winkler,
Daniel Morris, Alex Davidson, Brandon Davidson, and Courtney Davidson; also 26
great grandchildren. Visitation will be held Monday, January 2, from 2 pm to 4

Fred L. Dillon, Jr., 77, of Beallsville, died Sunday,
January 3, 2016 in Liza’s Place, Valley Hospice Care Center, Wheeling, West
Virginia. He was born May 8, 1938, in Forest Hill, WV, a son of the late Fred
L. and Doris Farr Dillon.
Fred was a retired maintenance foreman with Ormet Aluminum
near Hannibal, Ohio; a member of the
Pleasant Ridge United Methodist Church, and a US Army Veteran.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his
first wife, Arlene Morrell Dillon; two sisters, Mary Grace Pollock and Jeannie
Messer.
Surviving are his wife of 16 years, Eileen Harrington
Dillon; three sons, Tim (Valerie) Dillon of Pataskala, Matt (Joy) Dillon of

Yvonne "Kay" Doty, 77, of Barnesville, died
Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at Barnesville Hospital. Born June 8, 1939 in
Rogers, Arkansas, she was the daughter of the late Conard Henman and Georgia
Creech Henman.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by
her husband, Charles "Sonny" Doty; daughter, Shelia Howell; sister,
Nina Sheley; brother, Troy Henman; and two great-grandchildren.
Kay is survived by her sons, Doug (Kim) Smith, Kevin
(Tammy) Doty all of Barnesville, Dan Doty of Byesville; 11 grandchildren; seven
great-grandchildren; sisters, Barbara (Jim) Kimberly, Becky (Charles) Hamilton,

Kay was a loving wife,
mother, grandmother, and sister, always putting others, unselfishly before
herself. A wonderful seamstress, her passion was sewing. She also enjoyed
reading and cooking.

Earl Edward Dougherty - known as "Daddy,"
"Papa," "Eddie," "Uncle Ed," "Mr. Ed" -
born Feb. 7, 1928, in Parkersburg, W.Va., passed away Feb. 24, 2016, in Murfreesboro,
Tenn.
He was a January 1946 graduate of Parkersburg High School
where he played Big Red football and baseball. He attended David Lipscomb
University in Nashville, Tenn., after serving in the Marines at El Toro, Calif.
He is survived by daughters, Pam Dotson of Smyrna, Tenn.,
Terry Releford and husband, Mike, and Judy Gower and husband, David of
Nashville, Tenn.; grandchildren, Kenneth Dotson of LaVergne, Tenn., Jamie
Gregory of Smyrna, Tenn., Rachel Gower and Jeremy Gower, of Nashville, Tenn.;
great grandchildren, Jackson Gregory and Bennett Gregory of Smyrna, Tenn.;
sisters, Becky Petty of Williamstown, W.Va., and Ava Lee Stanley of San
Antonio, Texas; and numerous nephews and nieces, all of whom he loved dearly.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Eva Lou Dougherty;
parents, Harry Sherman Dougherty and Marie Dotson Dougherty; siblings, Kenneth
Dougherty, Francis Dougherty, Lillian Plum, Marjorie Showalter, Barbara
Dougherty and James Dougherty; and Guinevere, his beloved lab-shepherd mix
companion in the last year of his life.
He was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ. His faith
was the overriding aspect of his life and personality, and brought him great
comfort and security. He was proud of his service to his country as well as
that of his father and brothers. He was a loyal Mountaineer to the end.
Visitation will be today from 10-11 a.m., at Sunset
Memorial Funeral Home, Parkersburg. Memorial services will today, at 11 a.m.
Inurnment will follow the service.
The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be

NEW PALESTINE – L. David Duff, age 75, of New Palestine,
passed away Thursday, December 29, 2016. He was born on August 5, 1941 in
Decatur, Indiana as the son of Eugene J. and Dolores M. (Hoblet) Duff. He
graduated from Willshire High School in 1959. Mr. Duff received his BSEE in
Electrical Engineering from Ohio State University in 1964. He married Linda S.
(Strickling) on August 22, 1964.
David worked for Eli Lilly & Co. in Indianapolis in the
Metrology department for many years before retiring. Mr. Duff was a member of
Cross of Grace Lutheran Church in New Palestine and the First Church of the
Nazarene in Indianapolis. He had many interests including teaching, writing,
reading, traveling, biking, hiking, backpacking and gardening. His faith in God
influenced his life goals and priorities. He was constantly reaching out to
others and giving of himself.
David is survived by his wife, Linda S. (Strickling) Duff;
daughters, Elizabeth A. (Mark) Blachly, Karen A. (Chris) McKinney and Christine
L. Duff; brother, Jerald L. (Linda) Duff; sister, Linda A. (Tom) Wicks; and six
grandchildren, Jordan, Madison, Emma, Ben, Abby and Bethany. He was preceded in
death by his parents and brother, John William Duff.
A Memorial Gathering will be held on Saturday, January 7,
2017, from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at Cross of Grace Lutheran Church, 3519
S. 600 W., New Palestine, IN 46163. A Celebration of Life service will
immediately follow the gathering at 11:30, also at the church. Pastor Mark
Havel will be officiating.

William Thomas Dunfee, 76 of Shadyside, Ohio died Friday,
August 26, 2016 at his home.
He was born July 28, 1940 in Neffs, Ohio a son of the late
Loumas and Ethel Clayton Dunfee.
Bill was a control room operator for Turfcare in Martins
Ferry and the Ohio Ferro Alloys in Clarington, Ohio. He was a member of the
Shadyside Lodge 724 F & AM.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his
sister, Betty Knowlton and a brother, Ralph Dunfee.
Surviving are his wife, Sally Hart Dunfee, one brother,
Paul (Pauline) Dunfee of Bellaire, Ohio and several nieces and nephews. Also
“Zoe his Boxer”.
There will be no visitation. Services will be held at the

daughter of the late Thoburn E. Workman and Ida Maude O’Neil Workman.A member
of the First Christian Church of Barnesville, Hilda had a wholehearted love of
family. She enjoyed reading, music, and a good cup of Red Rose Decaf Tea. She
was retired from Barnesville Medical Center where she had worked as a medical
clerk.

husband, William A. “Tubby” Duvall; son, baby Kevin; brothers, Clarence and

Roy Oliver Dye Sr., Stow, OH, was ushered peacefully into
the next life to the hymn “Amazing Grace” sung by his family on May 14, 2016 at
the 3 o’clock hour. Roy was born and raised in the family home built by his
father in Portage Lakes, Ohio.
He graduated from Coventry High School and started his
career as an Electrician by attending a trade school in Chicago. After graduating trade school in 1959, Roy
went on to proudly serve his country as a Medic for the US Army.
With Roy’s cherished wife, Susan, and two loving sons by
his side, nothing pleased him more than spending time with his family, enjoying
the outdoors, and working on projects around the house. Roy truly enjoyed his
work, both as an Electrician and at home with his sons, teaching everyone
around him the importance of hard work and doing things the right way. Roy retired from General Motors after 28
years working as an Electrician. He took great pride and enjoyment in his
extended family and their gatherings on the family farm in “the Hills” that he
knew and loved. In later years, Roy’s grandchildren
and dogs became the object of his doting affection and amusement, along with
reading and playing cards with his wife and friends. Roy wove his sense of
humor and good nature into a full and beautiful life surrounding us all.
Preceded in death by his infant daughter Kimberly, parents;
Twila and Clinton, in laws; Julia and Gus Yogmour Sr, sister-in-law Randi, and
brother-in-law Don.
Left to cherish the memories are wife, Susan, son Roy Jr
(Ann Louise), son Todd (Julianne), Grandchildren; Kaleigh, Roy III, Taylor,
Claire, and Annalia. Siblings; Dick
(Carol), Helen Knaus, Denver (Jane), Phyllis (Steve) Bedi, and Bill,
sister-in-law Olga Yogmour, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law; Gus and Karen
