Richard
MORRIS was
born in 1778 in New Jersey. He died on
March 30, 1847 in Monroe County, OH. He
was buried in Harmony Cemetery, Beallsville, Monroe County, OH. The following were heirs of Richard Morris:
Sarah (and James Hendershot), William
Morris, Prudance (and Slater Rush), Frances and (Casper Hendershot), Phoebe and
[Ephraim Jones). Although they appear to be children, there could be a missing
generation. (See the 1830 census of Richard Morris- male between age of
20-30. He's gone in 1840. Could it be a son of Richard and father of
these children or could they have been Richard's family from a second wife?)
Phoebe Morris Jones and child
died in childbirth. She and husband Ephraim were involved in a land transaction
with William and Hannah Myers, but Phoebe died before it was completed. Since Phoebe had inherited the land, Ephraim
was considered a "mere tenant."
The quit claim deed signed by Sarah and James Hendershot stated they had
"inherited from the late Richard Morris."
Obadiah Truax was the
administrator of Richard Morris' estate in 1847.
