The Steed Cemetery, as it is called locally, is located on the farm owned ,(in the year 2003) by Lewis Wayne Matz.  Mr. Lewis Matz farm is located at the intersection of Ohio Route 800 and Monroe County Route 26.  It lies west of Route 800 and north of Route 26.  The Cemetery is about 500 yards in a northeasterly direction from the intersection of these two roads.  Steed Cemetery never had a church on or near the site.  It was an early burial site about 2 miles removed from the town of Woodsfield and served in about the same time period as the Pioneer Cemetery located just west of the town.

It appears that there may be about 150 graves in the Steed Cemetery.  The above numbers show the location of graves most of which could be read.  Several other stones are still in place that are no longer readable and were not given a number.  Empty areas between stones suggest that graves may be there without markers.  A gate-opening exists in the wire fence surrounding the cemetery that is located at the bottom of the above chart.  It is approximately midway along the bottom border of the above chart.  The bottom of the chart is approximately to the east – the top of the chart is approximately to the west.

The latitude and longitude of the corners of the cemetery and selected grave sites are as follows:

Southwest corner of Steed Cemetery:  latitude = N 39o 43.887’; longitude = W 081o 07.214'

Northwest corner of Steed Cemetery:  latitude = N 39o 43.891’; longitude = W 081o 07.178'

Northeast corner of Steed Cemetery:  latitude = N 39o 43.890’; longitude = W 081o 07.152'

Southeast corner of Steed Cemetery:  latitude = N 39o 43.877’; longitude = W 081o 07.152'

Grave of Elizabeth Sullivan Baker:  latitude = N 39o 43.888’; longitude = W 081o 07.168'

Grave of Martin Baker:  latitude = N 39o 43.880’; longitude = W 081o 07.168'

In the table below, the numbers assigned to the grave markers on the chart above are again listed and the information that could be read from the respective grave marker is given.
