Re: James HARRISON d. 1712 Essex Co, Va

You might look at George MOTT - Id# 4963 in the Repository. Hre are the
notes which I find to be interesting. Hope this helps.

On 23 Sept 1663,George Mott, along with his brother John Mott, received a
patent for 1200 acres on the north side and in the "freshens" of the
Rappahanock River (Cavaliers, Vol 2, p 23). This land is located in present
Stafford and King George Counties (Marriages of Richmond County, p 79).

On 10 Sept 1668, along with John Mott a second time, he received a patent
for 3700 acres adjoining his own land. The grant was for the transportation
of 50 persons including both George and his brother John were listed as
members of the group, so they seem to have immigrated at this time. Ann
Mott, who was the only one of his four daughters old enough to have a head
right at the time that they emigrated was also listed, (Cavaliers, Vol 2,
page 53).

On 17 Oct 1670, along with John Mott a third time, he received a patent for
15,654 acres on the north side and in the "freshens" of the Rappahanock
River. The grant was for the transportation of 313 persons, (Cavaliers, Vol
2, p 53).

At the time that he died, he had begun a fourth venture, this time with
James Harrison and John Bowzee (James Harrison later married his widow).
This time they received 9019 acres for the transportation of 180 persons on
29 Nov
1674. This land being located on the south side of the Rappahanock River
about 6 miles up from the fall and is now located in Spotsylvania county,
(Cavaliers, Vol 2, p 159).

Both John and George Mott left all of their holdings to George's four
daughters, Elizabeth, Margaret, Ann, and Ellen according to (Marriages of
Richmond County, pp 57, 71, 79, 186, and 258).
