Hi! I just returned from vacation and found your very interesting message
regarding Battaile HARRISON, et al, among my e-mail. I'm very new to
genealogy, and find it to be fascinating, but very confusing. I have
infromation from an older relative that my g-g-g-grandfather, Reuben
Harrison (said to be "English") was a teacher. He was born in 1782 in
Virginia. He married Elizabeth Hill (also said to be "English"), b. 1786,
m. Apr. 2, 1805, Amherst Co., Va. They had 9 children. I only have
information on 3 of them. I found a record of Susannah M. Harrison, b .
Jan. 11, 1806, Amherst, Va. My g-g-grandmother Elizabeth T. Hill, was
born Jan. 19, 1810, probably in Va. The family moved to Kentucky at some
point. Their 7th child, Samuel Toliver Harrison was born Feb. 29, 1820,
Miller Co., Mo., where I was told he lived and died (source -- family
record of Wm. Harrison of Eldon, Mo. by way of Goldia Esther Jones Allen,
my mother's cousin who was the source for most of my information). Reuben
and Elizabeth were said to have moved to St. Louis, Mo. in 1826, then to
Olean, Mo. in 1833. He died Aug. 13, 1844, and she on July 12, 1871. They
are both buried in the Olean Cemetery.
I have been trying to find out for sure who his parents were, and think he
was probably a descendant of Battaile Harrison, but have not been able to
make a definite connection. The Reuben who was a son of John Harrison (son
of Battaile), according to the information in your message, sounded
hopeful, except for the residence being shown as Jefferson Co., TN. Any
further help you can give me would be very much appreciated. Please feel
free to post this as a query, if you like, and edit it as desired.
Thanks,
