Passing on a short article in KY Explorer Nov 1995 p99 taken from an old
scrapbook of 1890's, author unknown:
"Hugh MOSS was commissioned Captain of militia in Goochland Co. in 1760 and
Major in 1770. He served in the Rev. War and died in 1780 from the effects of
wounds received in battle. He was married by the Rev. John Clay (father of
Henry) to Jane FORD, daughter of Thomas and Katurah Wynne Ford. His father,
James Moss, came from England abt 1719 to Va., where he married Elizabeth
HENDERSON, whose ancestors came from Scotland. Maj. Moss was the father of
Dr. James W. Moss and Katurah L. Moss who married Gen. Jas. TAYLOR of Ky. Dr.
James W. Moss, of Goochland, married Mary, daughter of Josiah WOODSON, of
Dover, Goochland Co, Va., a Major in the Rev. Army, and removed to Maysville,
Ky. abt. 1804 and died in 1817; by his wife, Elizabeth Woodson, member of the
House of Burgesses from Goochland; by his wife Dorothea RANDOLPH (married Oct
28, 1751), the sister of Susanna Randolph who married Carter H. HARRISON and
aunt to Thomas JEFFERSON. She died Jan. 18, 1790. He was a son of Josiah
Woodson, who died in 1736 (by his wife, Mary ROYAL), son of John Woodson, of
Curles, in Henrico, (by his wife Judith TARLETON, a daughter of Steven
Tarleton, who died in 1687), eldest son of Robert Woodson, son of Dr. John
Woodson, who emigrated from Dorsetshire, England, prior to 1629."
Yes, I know it is confusing but I typed it just the way it appears. As usual,
