Re: Anyone still posting?

no, I just didn't get the first part of it - Becky relaid one msg to me, but
I didn't get the beginning or the end.

Anyway i worked up some stuff about isaiah and here is the dope.

I have the Isaiah's church book and also big chart I picked up in Jonesboro.
Called the Harrison community. Jeremiah H.(1707-1798) son of the 1st Isiah
H. and Abigail Smith, and wife, Catherine settled in Greene co. TN.

LGT reported them as a lost tribe - but they were found among new settlers
in the Holston River headwater sections of Washington County, VA in 1772
taking up land. By 1781 they are found taking up land in Green Co.
Territory. - Will Sep 15, 1793, probated Apr 1798, age 91 yrs. Isaiah and
Samuel Harned exes.

Isaiah (1762-1851) - 1st wife Mary (Reagan-?) 2nd wife Eliz Whittenburg,
dau of Frederick Whitteburg. 3rd wife md in 1839 was Mary Jones.

Note Reagan (or Ragan - same as Michael's wife Margaret - also Daniel Ragan
md Harrison in same area.

Isaish rec'd a grant from NC 200 acres in 1793 along the line of henry
Willis - Willis was the 1st preacher on whom Bishop Asbury laid ordaining
hands and was one of the 13 preachers elected to the Elder's office 1784,
and was stationed on Holston. (NC paid her soldiers from Rev War with land
grants in TN.) Regular circuit work began in Holston in 1783 with Jeremiah
Lambert as an appointee and henry Willis was named in 1784.

Isaish deeded land to Trustees of Methodist episcopal Ch - George Wells,
Stephen Brooks, John Kelly, Sr., John Kelly, Jr. and John Wittenburg - on
Sep 18, 1808 to build a place of public worship (deed refers to "corner of
meetinghouse" so it appears church had already been built before deed was made.)

Bethesda United Methodist Church, located on harrison road, widely known as
Harrisons many buried in the adjoining cem.

some of Isaish's children: (may not be all)

Jeremiah m Elizabeth Jones;
Eleanor md John Kelly jr.
John K. md Polly Brooks (dau of Stephen Brooks)
Josiah md Nancy Henshaw
Caleb md Eliza henshaw, and Mary Polly Bird
Grace md Wm Brooks
Sarah md. Henry Brooks.

Information handed down through the years was that William Harrison born in
1784 came as a small boy with Isaiah, his uncle, when they came from
Virginia. William "Billy" Harrison m Catherine Lintz. (but 1850 census of
Greene Co lists him as having been born in TN). His exact lineage is also
in doubt as some researchers believe he was Isaiah's son while others regard
him as a newphew. Whever the kinship, it is known that Isaiah and Billy
enjoyed a close personal relationship.

Billy and C. Lintz Chart
Abigail, James H. , Rachael, Martin, and Elizabeth.
Nancy Cannon, overholser, Kelley, Scott, Wallis, Bird, Taylor, McGHee,
Johnson, Gregory - allied names.

15 acres of land for a cem in 1813.

E TN divided on N & S in War - Henry Martin harrison, a Union Sol.

Rev George Wells b MD 1765-1859 traveled extensively with Bishop Asbury and
Rev. Stephen Brooks was a contemporary. A brother to Joshua Wells, who was
connected with the Baltimore Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Ch.
George Wells was md in Rockingham Co Va to Jane Reagan (another Reagan from
Rockingham same as Michael's wife Margaret) she d. had son Joshua Wells b

Converted Felix Earnest, a prominent citizen and built Ebenezer Methodist
Church, a sister institution to the Harrison Meeting House a few miles
upstream on the Nolichuckey River. Md Felix sister, Anna in 1793. erected
a log church Mt. Pisgah Methodist Ch.

Cousin, Thomas Brooks, Jr. - evidently came from NC to Greene Co about the
same time and settled in the harrison's community. At least most of the
Brooks families here can trace back to these two.

Bethesda Ch.

Charity. dau of Rev Brooks md son of Rev Wells.

1st three known Methodist church buildings were: Acuff's Chapel near
Blountville (1785), Nelson's Chapel near Johnson City, and Van Pelt's Chapel

William Burke who was on the Greene Circuit with Stephen Brooks in 1792-1793.

Rev Asbury first met Stephen Brooks in 1789 at the conference at Newbern,
NC. and immediately declared "You will go with me to KY"

Big chart all numbered with Birds, Farnsworths, haney, Jones, Cornwell,
Ball, Wilhoit, Jones, Ricker, Reaves, White, White, Harmon, kelley, George,
