QUITE CORRECT -- this morning we were put on notice by our computer
security office that this is FOR REAL. Take whatever
precautions that you have. Phebe
Hi all,
I know you are probably tired of reading all this info on the HARE virus but
I thought I'd drop my 2 cents in anyway. I downloaded a virus scanning
software from aol tonight just to "be sure" my files werent infected, after
all, I ONLY download from aol and they have already scanned their files for
viruses. Well to my surprise one of the files I had downloaded from aol DID
have a HARE virus variant!
I also checked the McAfee Homepage which someone so graciously posted here
(http://www.mcafee.com) and read up on the HARE virus. Seems you can have
HARE infected files on your computer and not even know it UNTIL you go
online Aug 22 or Sept 22 at which time the virus will be "triggered". Once
triggered the virus will overwrite part of your harddrive and each time
after that that you boot your system, the virus will spread a little more.
SCARY HUH?!
I just wanted everyone to know not to disregard the virus messages and the
best bet is to scan for the virus "just to be safe!"
