Becky,
It should also be mentioned that there are several more reasons not to
transmit file attachments without the knowledge of the receiver:
1. Some people are having to pay for their on-line time and may not wish to
spend it on a file that is useless to them.
2. Our servers may have several people on-line who subscribe to several
lists. One message a couple of weeks ago was sent to every genealogist on
our server and was sent to multiple lists. Do a little mutiplication and
you can come up with a huge problem. Our mail server crashed because of
theses messages. I talked to him about it and he said they filled up his
850 meg hard drive and caused the system to lock up. I just hope he didn't
figure out that it was us genealogists that caused it! <G>
3. Viruses are transmitted through files (not messages). For this reason I
always delete the file attachment without opening it if I did not request
it. So, again, the time spent sending it to a list was wasted time for me.
Thanks for letting me have my input on this!
Betsy
