This is such a dynamic area that I think the best thing is to get the latest
copy. To find all the Lists on this genealogy server send a message to:
[email protected]
Body:
SEND LISTS
(and then send for the correct list, as described in that file)
and check
http://www.eskimo.com/~chance/http://users.aol.com/johnf14246/gen_mail.html
There is a way to retrieve all the mail archives from any list on maiser -
via email commands to maiser. I did this for Indiana recently, pasted them
togethr, then searched with a wordprocessor. It was very helpful.
It took three separate messages to maiser to get the shebang. Here's how I
did it:
ALL MESSAGES are mailed to [email protected]
1. SEND FILELIST
This will be a list of all direcories on MAISER by the LISTNAME - determine
from these results what you want then:
2. SEND IN.DIR
this will be a list of files on MAISER where IN is the INDIANA LIST GROUP.
i took this list and imported into Excel and created a column which added
the word SEND to the front of each file name. Then copy pasted into my
emailer the next message:
3. SEND 95-07-04.IN
SEND 95-07-08.IN
SEND 95-07-12.IN
SEND 95-07-16.IN
SEND 95-07-20.IN
SEND 95-07-24.IN
SEND 95-07-29.IN
SEND 95-08-02.IN
SEND 95-08-08.IN
SEND 95-08-12.IN
SEND 95-08-16.IN
SEND 95-08-20.IN
SEND 95-08-24.IN
... etc
be sure your either have your signature off OR two empty lines after your
last command to maiser OR the word EXIT as the last command line.
I saved all these to a single file and then went after it with my
wordprocessor. I was delighted to have figured out how to do this as I have
had to unsub from all other lists in order to even think about keeping up
with the HARRISONs.
I apologize to any of you who are waiting to hear from me. I am working as
fast as I can to get caught up - and stuff keeps happening on my own family
... i wish I could clone myself ... but then we couldn't afford the extra
computers to answer all the mail.
Hope this helps
becky
