My name is Joyce Browning and I live in Fairfax County, Virginia. Anne
Hamlin and I have been discussing our mutual desire to address Taliaferro
research more definitively. Anne's time is pretty full so she feels she can't
commit to compiling this type of study. That leaves me.
The purpose of this message is to ascertain if there is enough initial
interest to launch a Taliaferro family newsletter. A basic format is
described below.

A few days ago reference to the Taliaferro name in a message posted to a
group of Harrison researchers generated a lot of interest. This level of
interest stimulated me to float the idea of a newsletter to a larger group.
My husband and I each have a Taliaferro line, so I had an interest in the
family before I moved to Essex County VA, an early Taliaferro county. Once
there, Taliaferro family members encouraged me to work with them to sort out
the third, fourth, and fifth generations. We had to discontinue our effort
without completing it. These were crucial Taliaferro generations as they
undertook the first tentative steps westward, assured our independence, and
crossed the Appalachians and the Blue Ridge to find homes in Alabama,
Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio, and Illinois. The box of accumulated Taliaferro
information sitting in my basement helps no one, so I will be a frequent
contributor.
Regular features, below, will constitute the basic format of TALIAFERRO
TIMES.
******
SALUTATIONS: Announcements, organizational information, etc.
NEW MEMBERS: Brief biographical sketches of participants and succinct
profile of their earliest known Taliaferro ancestor.
COLLATERALS: Other lines being researched - intended to stimulate
information sharing.
COLONIAL TALIAFERROs: A Taliaferro biography, participation in an historic
event, description of an early Taliaferro site - i.e., an essay which uses
information from a variety of sources.
RESEARCH: Raw data from cited sources - i.e., a list of Taliaferro
marriages bonds, will abstracts, deed transfers in specific counties or for
specific time periods.
MISCELLANY: Interesting historical information which relates generally to
Taliaferro families, their communities, their times in history, etc.

Access to TALIAFERRO TIMES will be available to a defined group of
subscribers. I will compile from material submitted by participants.
Information will be circulated to the entire mailing list only by submission
to the TALIAFERRO TIMES. Contributors will be identified to ease exchange of
information and conversation.
Each issue of TALIAFERRO TIMES, anticipated to be 8 to 10 pages long, will be
distributed weekly at first. After an initial burst of energy, the
newsletter will probably go to a biweekly schedule. Advertisements will be
posted to web sites in hopes of soliciting a continual infusion of
enthusiasm.
Those who notify me that they want to participate will be provided with the
basic guidelines within two weeks, or will be notified that interest is
insufficient to launch a family study of this depth.
I'm looking forward to hearing from you and to a successful joint venture.
