Josephine:
As promised, here is part 2 of the material I have been working on,
beginning with a footnote on Peter Harrison, one of the seven sons of
George Harrison I. There are hardly any references to Peter in Northern
Neck records and none of them indicate that he was married. He was in a
judgment against the estate of Henry Webster in 1724 and he won a judgment
against William Walker in March 1725/26, both in Richmond County. A Peter
Harrison was on the Cople Parish rent roll with 64 acres of land in 1740
and this apparently ties him back to George Harrison I.
There are several births in Virginia Colonial Abstracts by Beverley Fleet
that appear to have some likelihood to connect to the family of George
Harrison I. These are from the book's section which lists births in
Northumberland County. They are:
(1) Samuel and Elizabeth Harrison
Son Peter, born 19 Mar 1765
Son Sammuel, born 4 Apr 1770
(2) Peter and Lucey Harrison
Son Joshua Tarpley, born 3 Mar 1785
Daughter Molley, born 11 Jan 1789
(3) Willoughby and Susannah Harrison
Son Roston, born 8 May 1794
Daughter Nancy, born 20 Sep 1796
(4) George and Caty Harrison
Daughter Elizabeth, born 29 Dec 1784
Also included are the following which *might* be the same parents with an
uncertain spelling for the father's name:
(5) Eizah and Salley Harrison
Daughter Harriot W., born 27 Apr 1797
(6) Elisha and Salley Harrison
Daughter Nancey Russel, born 19 Mar 1800
(7) The will of Samuel Harrison, which appears on page 178 of Wills of
Westmoreland County, by Fothergill, mentions sons Peter and Thomas,
daughters Elsey and Hannah. I know nothing further on this one.
Perhaps there are those who are interested can search the records on the
Northern Neck and find where these fit. It's my feeling that numbers 1, 2
and 3 may well be in the family of Willoughby, the last named son in the
will of George Harrison I. So could No. 7. No. 4 could be the George who is
son of John, one of the seven sons of George Harrison I.
One final note: In Westmoreland County Deeds & Wills 12, page 155, William
Harrison of St. Mary's Co., MD, conveyed 307 acres on the Potomac River to
Isabella Rigg of Cople Parish. The tract adjoined the lands of Manley and
Pope. I know nothing further on this. He is not otherwise identified.
