ROUSSEAU & Ann (Mary) HARRISON c1730 Westmoreland/Stafford/Culpepe



Hi all:  Seeking parents of Ann (Mary) HARRISON b ca 1720.  Would love to
see ANY ROUSSEAU records you may have run across.  This is my husband's
direct line.  I have not been able to place Ann in the Repository yet.
There may be a connection somewhere to Lovell HARRISON as a descendant,
Major General Lovell Harrison Rousseau accepted the transfer of ownership of
Alaska from Russia to US.  Help greatly appreciated!  

1. David ROUSSEAU. Son of Hillaire ROUSSEAU & Elizabeth LYNTON. Born 2 Nov
1717 in Stafford, VA. Died 12 Jun 1748 in Culpeper, Va. Ref Number 256. 

!BIRTH: Register of Saint Paul's Parish; 1715-1798; by H.S. King; David
Rousseau born 2 Nov 1717 in Stafford county, Virginia. Parents were Hillaire
and Elizabeth Rousseau.
!DEATH: Records of Westmoreland County, Va.; inventory of David Rousau's estate.
!WILL: Will Book "A"; Culpepper County, Va.; document showing the division
of the slaves of David rausau dec'd between his two sons, Hillair Rausau and
James Rausau. Widow Ann remarried Samuel DOGAN.
!MISC: Deed Book "E"; Culpepper County, Virginia; Hillair Rousseau, son and
heir of David Rousseau dec'd, gave to his mother Ann Dogan a gift.

He married Ann (Mary) Harrison, About 1735/1745. Ref Number 257. 
They had the following children:

2. Hillaire ROUSSEAU. Son of David ROUSSEAU & Ann (Mary) Harrison. Born 1743
in VA. Died 1824/1829 in Wilkes, NC. Ref Number 128. 

!Hillaire and his family moved from Virginia to North Carolina during or
before 1775, settling in that part of Surry county which became a part of
Wilkes county in 1777.
!MISC: 1775 Surry County tax list; Hillair Russau, negro Tom 2.
!MISC: Most of the children listed for Hillaire and Sarah were taken from
Wilkes and Surry countys marriage bond records.
!CENSUS: Wilkes Co. NC; 1784-1787; Rousson, Hillion 1 white male 21-60 yrs.;
4 white males under 21 and over 60 yrs.; 4 white females all ages.
!MISC: Land and property records Wilkes co., NC; 1778-1781 several records
of land transactions found in deed book A1 Hilliar appears on tax list in
Capt. Gordon's district in 1782 Deed book C1, p. 357-358 Land of Wilkes by
Johnson J. Hayes. p. 78
!WILL: Westmoreland Co., VA; Will Book "11", p. 288; Hilliar and brother
James mentioned in will of Grandmother Elizabeth  Lewis (formerly married to
Hillaire Rousseau).
!MISC: Culpeper Co., Va; Will Book "A", p. 443; 27 Dec 1766; Court order
dividing the slaves of David Rasau dec'd between his two sons Hilliar Rausau
and James Rausau.
!MISC: Culpeper Co., Va.; Deed Book "E", p. 240; 27 Dec 1766; Deed of Gift
of one slave by Hilliar Roussau son and heir of David Roussau to his mother
Ann Dogan. Also mentions brother James Roussau.
!MISC: Wilkes Co., NC; Deed Book "K", p. 360; 5 Oct 1822; Deed of Gift from
Hilliar Rousseau to sons David and John Rousseau.

He first married Sarah (Polly) ROGERS, 1765/1770. Born 1748 in VA. Died 1799
in NC. Ref Number 129. 

!WILL: Culpeper Co., Va.; Will Book "A", p. 275-276; Sarah mentioned as
daughter in will of Joseph Rogers.

They had the following children:

He second married Elizabeth (Betty) HERNDON, 13 Apr 1802 in Wilkes, NC. 

!Herndon was not Betty's maiden name. She was the widow of Joseph Herndon Esq.,


3. James ROUSSEAU. Son of David ROUSSEAU & Ann (Mary) Harrison. Born 10 Mar
1746 in VA. Died 12 Jun 1824 in Wayne, KY. 

!MISC: Culpeper Co.; Deed Book L, p. 13; 13 Mar 1777; Assignment of Lease:
John Spottswood Esq. lets unto James Rousseau and heirs 287 acres in the
Parish of St. Marks, Culpeper, during the natural lives of James Rousseau,
Lucy Rousseau, and David Rousseau paying yearly 1380 lbs. of tobacco. same
book, p. 15; 18 Aug 1777, Assignment of Lease: I do assign this lease to Mr.
Absolom Cornelius having received satisfaction for same. (signed) James
Rousseau James Lucy and others of the family left Culpeper County, Virginia
in the early 1800's and migrated to Wayne County, Kentucky where he remained
the rest of his life.
!WILL: Westmoreland Co., Va. Will Book "11", p. 288; James and brother
Hilliar mentioned in will of Grandmother Elizabeth Lewis(widow of Hillaire
Rousseau, later married to Surles Lewis).
!WILL: Wayne Co. Ky.; Will Book, p. 50, 51; 9 Mar 1824. Will of James
Rousseau names wife Lucy and children Polly, David, Elizabeth, Ezekial,
John, Fanny, James A. and Sally(Sarah?). Also are mentioned are two sons of
daughter Polly, but not by name.

He married Lucy ROGERS, 1767. Born 10 Mar 1748. Died 20 Dec 1835 in
Culpeper, VA. 

!WILL: Culpeper Co., Va.; Will Book "A", p. 275-276; Lucy mentioned as
daughter in will of Joseph Rogers.

They had the following children:
