Harrison, James (Grandfather of Martha Harrison Gatewood); VA

In the book, "The Musgroves of Longdale" [VA] by Lewis Stansbury Musgrove
(1946), which is about some of my ancestors, the following statement is made
about the first Musgroves of the now defunct town of Longdale, VA, Andrew
Smith Musgrove (son of Demetris Musgrove and Martha Watson Musgrove) and
Martha Alvis Gatewood (daughter of Robert Gatewood and Martha Harrison) who
had apparently been financially ruined by the War Between the States and
moved to Longdale from Bedford County, VA:

"Neither he nor his wife had yet gotten over the way they had been reared
'before the War,' what they had had - and who they were - and even the
children were proud, in spite of their comparative poverty. Proud, among
other things, of the fact that they were grandchildren of JAMES HARRISON
(close kin of President Benjamin Harrison) and his wife, NANCY THOMAS
HARRISON, a cousin of Thomas Jefferson." (pp. 14-15)

This sounds a lot like the kind of "wishful thinking" that one encounters
far too often, I'm sure, among amateur genealogists, but I was wondering.....

Can anyone out there verify and/or elaborate upon these statements. I am
interested in learning all I can about this Harrison/Musgrove line.

And, let me know if this book may be of interest to any of you--maybe I can
share some of it my snail mail. I'm new to this list, so maybe all of this
is old hat, but I'd sure like to be brought up to speed on this.

Thanks in advance for whatever you may be able to share.

Ed Plunkett (mentioned at page 43 of the book)
