Harrison, Grovier (Grove)

Dee,

According to Stone's book on Bazel Harrison, here are a few items on
William H. Harrison, Jr. and his second wife Worlenda Davis. Stone
gilded the lily in more than one instance, but much of what he wrote
checks out. My advice is to just use this as a clue to further
research.

William was living in Frederick Co., MD in 1750.

Bazel describes his father: "he never got ahead; he farmed it all
his life, yet never owned a farm." (so much for deed records!)

Of 23 children from two marriages, 16 lived to adulthood.

Six of the older brothers served in the Revolution. (you could check
pension records or military records for Maryland).

The family moved to a farm near Winchester, Frederick Co., VA when
Bazel was 9. That would be about 1779. Five years later the family
moved to Pennsylvania, near Greencastle, Franklin Co. ca 1784. Stone
mentions that the older children had scattered by this time, "several being
married and engaged in farming in Virginia and Maryland."

William H. Harrison, Jr. died in "western Pennsylvania" in 1812.

end of information from Stone

=======================
Information from the files of Irene Harrison Townsend, my aunt, who
has been researching this line for 30 plus years.

Zephaniah Harrison served in a VA regiment during revolution. He was
denied pension. He stated in the application for pension #R4690 at
Vandenburgh Co., IN probate court, Aug ___, 1835. "he may have been
know as Harris in VA as he was not capable of reading or writing."

This would explain why apparently seven brothers served in the
Revolution, but Stone only mentions six who rode off together. The
other brothers for whom pension were claimed were Benjamin, Joseph
(Josiah?), and Kinsey (Kinsie). Grovier, Samuel, and James also
served. Three pensions claimed were for privates in the Maryland Line.

Some notes on Grovier (Grove):

Witnessed Josias Harrison's marriage to Elizabeth Davis, 15 Aug 1779,
Frederick Co., MD.

Witnessed Amelia "Mealey" Harrison's marriage to Johannes Eck, 7 Jan
1783, Frederick Co., MD.
