Subject: Zepheniah Harrison
Norm -
Although I have a Harrison connection, I have not done any real research
on the family. I've spent the last seven years writing a book on the
LITTLEPAGE family from Virginia. It's amazing how you can develop a
real case of tunnel vision when you do something like that. But, if you
have any questions on the Littlepages, I probably can answer it... :-)
I did perk up when I saw several entries on ZEPHENIAH HARRISON, - but
lost interest when I realized that the one talked about came from
Frederick County, Maryland (20 miles from here), while mine came from
Frederick County, Virginia. But, your message earlier today, suddenly
made me realize that they are one in the same.
I know NOTHING about Zepheniah - other than he moved from Muhlenberg
County, Kentucky, about 1818 when he moved to Vanderburgh County,
Indiana.. I have his pension application.
Zepheniah evidently had a daughter, MAY "MAZEY" HARRISON, who married
JAMES LITTLEPAGE about 1801. The marriage was evidently none too
happy. Mazey apparently left James sometime about 1811. She told a
neighbor that if James ever came after her, she'd kill him. They were
divorced in 1815 - the first ever in Madisonville in Hopkins County,
Kentucky. Mazey seems to have disappeared afterwards. But, I think
that she was likely pregnant with my ancestor, MARTIN LITTLEPAGE, who
was born in 1811. The divorce file does not mention a child.
When Zepheniah goes to Indiana, a young boy is living in his household.
Martin, when he reached adulthood, bought a farm adjacent to the farm of
Zepheniah. When Martin married, he named several children after family
members. One son was ZEPHENIAH HARRISON LITTLEPAGE.
I have LDS records showing several generations of the descendants of
WILLIAM HARRISON, Sr. However, they contain no real information on
Zepheniah.
1) DO YOU KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT WHO ZEPHENIAH MARRIED? I know that a
Zepheniah Harrison married an ANN LEE in August of 1794 in Virginia.
But, she could not have been the mother of MAY HARRISON, who was married
herself in 1801 in Muhlenberg County. I suppose that that Zepheniah
could have been the son of Zepheniah. I know that Zepheniah married
ELIZABETH SAUNDERS in Vanderburgh County on March 13, 1823. She was the
aunt of Martin Littlepage's wife, Sarah Saunders Hightower. Elizabeth
was the daughter of JEFFREY SAUNDERS from Posey County, Indiana. He
was my G-G-G-G-grandfather. His family was originally from North
Carolina.
2) DO YOU KNOW WHERE AND WHEN ZEPHENIAH DIED? I've never really figured
that out.
3) DO YOU KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT WHO HIS CHILDREN WERE?
4) WHAT IS THE TITLE OF "Stone's book on Bazel Harrison"? I live "near"
the DAR Library and the Library of Congress, so I'd have a shot at
looking at a copy.
Do you know anybody else researching this line? I'd love to exchange
information. I know that I don't have much information on the
Harrisons, but I do on the Saunders and Littlepages..
Thanks.
