I am searching for info on a Matilda HARRISON b. ca. 1850's
and married in SC to a ___ PENDARVIS. I know of a Pendarvis Plantation
in the St. Bartholomew's Parrish area of SC. The only records of
Matilda Harrison that I have are the Birth Record of her son
(my Grandfather), Henry C. SHOKES b. 1905 in Charleston, SC.
Her place of birth is ADAMS RUN, SC.; and the 1900 SC Census Record
of the SHOKES household where she is listed with her 6 (Pendarvis)
children. It is said that she died when Henry was a young child.
So, as you can see I have very little Harrison info. I have no parent
info only Matilda b. in Adams Run, and no birthdate. I have found no
other Matilda in any of the SC Census Records/Indexes that I have seen.
The only vague info that I have are stories that she was part Am Indian
and the name CORTES is mentioned. No one in the family even knew her
maiden name was HARRISON! I thought this strange. I considered the fact
that she may have been married to a CORTES before PENDARVIS, but so far
nothing.
Any help or info is most welcomed!
