I am researching George Harrison who m. Agnes Ann Shipley 1783 in Anne
Arundel Co. In my search for George's parents/siblings, I found the
following on a John S. Harrison. If any one has information on John's
parents, I would like to hear from you. Was wondering if George and Agnes
could possibly be his parents?
This was found in the ALER'S HISTORY OF MARTINSBURG AND BERKELEY CO., W.VA.
in the 'Historical Pen Sketches' pp 144-145
"John S. Harrison was one of the most highly educated and accomplished
physicians that up to that day had sought a home in Berkeley County.
Descended from one of the most respected of the old families of
Maryland he was born on West river, Anne Arundel county in 1790. At the
age of thirteen, he was sent to St. John's College, in Annapolis, and
there spent six years in completing his elementary, classical and
scientific studies. At the age of twenty he was sent to Europe, where he
spent four years in the medical and surgical instructions of France and
England, preparing himself for the practice of his profession. In 1805
he was married to Holland Williams Stull, the niece of that
distinguished atriot and hero of the Revolution, General Otho Holland
Williams, after whom she was named. In 1806 he removed with his young
bride to Martinsburg......................."
You will notice that the author had to have some of his dates wrong, if John
was b. in 1790 and went to Europe at the age of 20, this would have been in
1810 and he would have been only 15 years old in 1805. I think the author
may have meant possibly, 1815 as the marriage date. If you are connected to
John I would love to hear from you. Hoping to find information that might
help me with George Harrison.
