Hello All,
I'm having problems with my computer, so I haven't been able to get my
mail recently and I'm not sure this will go through. I found a small
paperback book, that is reprinted from THE MARINER'S MIRROR [The
Quartly Journal of the Society for Nautical Research]
Vol. XXI No. 2, April 1935
@1987 National Maritime Museum
about John Harrison and his Timekeepers
He was born in Barrow-on-Humber,Yorkshire, England and went to England
in 1728. He was the son of a carpenter and been brought up to follow his
father's trade. In spite of age,etc. he and his son [mentions a William
Harrison, earlier] finished a fifth timekeeper in 1770.Mentions a clock
decended to John Harrison's grand-son, John Barton of the Mint.
The timekeepers are connected with finding longitude at sea.
Hope this helps someone.
Gilda
