I lost the e-mail address of Tammy Kane, who was looking for info about
Harrisons in and around McLennan County. I happened to stop at a roadside
park that had a historical marker about 35 miles SE of Waco on Hwy 6 today
and got the following information:
General Thomas Harrison, youngest of the only trio of Texas brothers to
all gain the rank of General in the Confederate Army lived in Falls County
in the 1850's. He was a veteran of the Mexican War and Texas Frontier
Defense. Commanded Terry's Texas Rangers. Rode with General Nathan
Bedford Forrest. Fought in several battles in the Civil War(listed on the
sign if you need them), was wounded several times, was shot 3 times and had
5 horses shot from beneath him. Elected District Judge in 1866 & was
removed by the Reconstruction Regime. Served as a trustee of Waco University.
Tammy, I hope this helps. The marker was not far across the Falls County
line from McLennan County.
