Whether or not your database is "POSITIVELY VERIFIED BY PARCHMENT" is not
enough of a reason to remove databases.
What if you are right in your findings and some of the others are wrong in
their findings?
I am not planning on anytime in the future to write a book, publish a gedcom
of my database and do not plan on selling my database to anyone. There are
people on and off the internet who have published books and their data is
sometimes found to be wrong, but I correct the data they in my database and if
possible let them know of my findings. If they desire to change their data is
their business, not mind.
There are others who have web pages showing ancestral, descendants and
family group charts, but totally refuse to send you a gedcom file of their
database or they want to send you a straight descendant chart with no notes and
dates, neat and a small file, huh?
Then there are those who also have web pages showing ged-to-html results and
you ask them to swap databases with you as you have a tie and would like to
see if there could be other ties, but they say, "We are thinking about
publishing a book, so we cannot send you a gedcom, but would love to have your
database." or they say "My research isn't finished, but when it is I'll get
back in touch with you, but go ahead and send me your database", so when is
'finished' finished? Thank you for the compliment, but I wasn't born last
night.
To me these people should be ashame of even thinking about calling themselves a
'genealogist' in any shape, form or fashion. To me, I put these people in the
same category as I did Family Tree Maker and them wanting you to send in your
research and then charge you to look at it on a cd.
Like I said, "My database is to here to help others as long as they help me in
return by sending me their complete database first, then I immediately send
them mine."
If they don't want all of my data, then one only needs to make a
gedcom of what they do want and then import it into their database then do a
merge if needed and I can likewise do the same.
Let's hear from others out there that feel the same as I do, ok?
Thanks
Bill
