Re: HARRISON, Thomas (Capt.)

Hi,
I find the reference to Hampshire Co., VA to be VERY interesting. I have
been doing some research on early Vincennes, Knox Co., IN families - though
not HARRISON in particular. Between about 1793 and 1806 there was a big
influx of folks from Hampshire co., VA. This is interesting because
Vincennes was the home of Pres Wm Henry Harrison - where he was when he was
elected governor, and nominated for Pres. Of course Vincennes is not very
far from where the Battle of Tippecanoe was held and many of the folks that
fought in that battle were from Vincennes - and there were also a large
number of KY folks in the battle. What is further interesting is that at
least 4 Hampshire Co. VA families came to Vincennes by way of KY.

This brings me back nagging at the family story of Gen Batteal Harrison an
OH family whose parents were pioneers of Bourbon Co. KY - according to the
family: "The Harrison family are descendants from the brave Major Benjamin
Harrison, who feared not to place his name upon the Declaration of
Independence. He was the honored father of General Wm. H. Harrison, late
President of the United States. Batteal was at Wm H HARRISONs
inauguration, they hugged, kissed and cried". ("A Partial History of the
Harrison Family" by Dr. William Harrison, 1920? - found in Tennesee State
Library call # CS 71 H32 1920). I have worried and fretted over this
family because it seems we should find a relation there but have not yet.
Instead, most seem to think that Batteal's father is descended from
Lawrence Harrison and Catharine Marmaduke and do not support the adamant
claims of this family.

There are some really good historical accounts online of the Battle of
Tippecanoe if you're intested - thanks to Melancie (a descendant of Ben the
signer's brother through Robert Carter Harrison of KY) for finding Wm H
Harrison's account! see http://www.prairienet.org/~pcollins/1812new.html

sorry this is so confusing! i can't help but think we will find a
connection. Maybe there is something you will find that can link all this
together.
