Oct 5 1776 Priscilla Harrison of Cumberland Co conveyed to her son Benjamin "for love and affection" 1-- acres of woodland on Wilis River, being a part of 60-0acres devised to her be her late husand , Benjamin Harrison, deceased. At the same time she conveyed to her other son, Cary Harrison 100 acres of woodland.
Evidence of Henry Cary and several land transaction to Ben Harrison indicate that Henry Cary is Priscilla's father. The name Cary is persists several generations later in grandchildren given names of Prisilla in the Word line. However, one research thinks it might be READ -- data are being collected to prove ancestry. Wilmer L. Kerns relates the following "Mrs. John S. Matthews of Springfield, MO sent the following group sheet:
Children of Clement and Mary (Hill) Read were:
1. Priscilla Read (1728-1783) married Benjamin Harrison.
2. Johanna Read married first Joseph Hill and married second Daniel Allen.
3. Maj. Edmund Read married a Miss Lewis and Pauline Cabell.
4. Lt. Thomas Read married Elizabeth Nash. He was Clerk of Charlotte County.
5. Capt. Jonathan Read married Jane Lewis
6. Col. Isaac Read married Sarah Embrey. After his death Sarah married second to Thomas Scott of Charlotte County.
7. Clement Read Jr. married Clarissa Edwards (Brunswick County).
8. Margaret Hill Read married Paul Carrington, Oct. 15, 1755. After her death he married Priscilla Simms.
Mrs. Matthews' research was based on circumstantial evidence."
Wilmer is researching the original records in Richmond and Cumberland and would love to have any information in regard to this family. [S331] [S422]
