from the notes of Christine Harrison Dutcher:
"WESLEY HAMET HARRISON with his family came from Virginia about 1828 or 1830. The family moved from Wayne Co., to Fayette Co., Indiana, In 1835. Wesley H. moved to Union Co., Indiana in 1847 apparently after the death of his mother. In 1846 he had been appointed guardian of his minor brothers and sisters, namely James R., Sarah E., Asbury C., Martha M., and Jabez E. In 1854 Wesley moved to Israel Twp., Preble Co., Ohio where he owned 275 acres north-east of College Corner. In 1847, he asked to be relieved of the guardianship, that year he moved to Union Co., IN."
" In 1854, WESLEY H., wife, LAVINA, & youngest son, HENRY PEYTON, moved to Israel Twp., Preble Co., OH. In 1854, with his wife Lavina, he moved to Preble Co., OH. Records show Wesley H. Harrison in Sec. 31, Israel Twp., Preble Co., OH with 137 1/2 acres in 1858; another tract in the S.E. Qt. of Sec. 32 containing 165 acres seem to be the same land interred by CHRISTOPHER WITTER (Grandfather of LAVINA BROWN HARRISON), from the United States, April 10th, 1812.
"We also find WESLEY H. HARRISON elected to the Board of Trustees of the Methodist Episcopal Church in College Corner, IN., March 1858, which office he held many years, as well as being a Class Leader and appointed to the Quarterly Conference of the Liberty & College Corner Circuit to the Committee of Temperance (Church Records)."
"In 1871 the map shows WESLEY H. HARRISON in Sec. 31 with 109 acres. Following the death of LAVINA BROWN HARRISON, land in Sec. 31, Israel Twp., Preble Co., OH. is listed as "LAVINA HARRISON HEIRS". (I am of the opinion (1986) that this land is now Talawanda Springs. Some of the younger members of the family will have to research this.) According to an Abstract of Title, in my possession, dated October 24, 1885, "The S.E. Qt. of Section 32 - Township 6 - Range 1 East and Part of the N.E. Qt. of Section 31 - Township 6 - Range 1 East, all in Preble County, Ohio"
"This Abstract seems to be for a Mortgage to the Northwestern Mutual Insurance Co., in the amount of $6,000, dated December 1885. One wonders just what this money was used for, since in The Eaton Register, Thursday, December 31, 1896 there is a notice of a SHERIFF'S SALE - E. H. T. Chambers vs. Wesley H. Harrison, "being all of the northeast quarter of section 31, township 6, range 1, east, containing 137 1/2 acres, except 28.173 acres, taken evenly off the west side of quarter; except also 17.50 acres more or less out of the north middle part of said quarter and lying north of the College Corner and Fair Haven turnpike, and being the same tract of land deeded by said W. H. HARRISON to JAMES N. HUSTON which deed is recorded in Deed Book 92, page 434, Preble County Deed Records."
"Said premises has been appraised at $3675, and cannot sell for less that two-thirds of appraisement."
"The Attorney was J. W. King and the Sheriff, J. W. Johnson. It was in the COMMON PLEAS COURT as Case #7809."
"In the 1900 Census, WESLEY H. HARRISON, is listed as living alone in Union Twp., West College Corner, Union Co., IN., occupation - Sexton .An article at the time of the funeral for his son, HENRY PEYTON HARRISON, in February 1902, relates that the Father, was ill and unable to attend the funeral, but watched the procession from his upstairs window. He spent his later years at Mrs. Penecost Boarding House. Grandmother Harrison, DORA B. STEWART HARRISON, widow of HENRY PEYTON HARRISON, looked after his laundry and essentials, she kept meticulous records. WESLEY H. HARRISON, was often seen making the trek out to Grandmother's on the County Line, where he would find a warm welcome. In a day when many men wore beards, WESLEY H. HARRISON was clean shaven."
