  • RESIDENCE: Westmoreland Co., VA; Ohio Co., WVA
  • BIRTH: 1715
  • DEATH: 1785, Ohio County, WVA
  • REFERENCE: 260

Family 1 : HANNAH
  1. + James HARRISON
  2. + Robert HARRISON
  3. + William HARRISON II

Notes

Source: Shirley Hermastad 12150 Mellowood Drive, Saratoga, California 95070 (by letter 7-25-1999).

Land Record notes : " By virtue of warrant granted Thomas Bladen of Prince George's County, Maryland for 1900 acres of land dated by renewment 20 Feb.,1744, survey of 58 acre tract called Maidenhead was made 24 April, 1745. For 1 pound 15 shillings and 11 pence for sixteen years rent and three months to Michs.1761, issue of patent was permitted."

*************************

On 8 May,1761 for 29 pounds William Hareson (Harrison) of Frederick County, Maryland was assigned the right and title to Maidenhead. Signed by Benjamin Tasker, attorney for Thomas Bladen.

William Harrison was granted 58 acres of land, a tract called Maidenhead, in Frederick County, Maryland, 29 Sept., 1761. He was called William Hareson of Frederick County.

*************************

William Harrison received a certificate dated 12 June, 1769 to re-survey a tract called Maidenhead so as to amend errors in the original survey and to add contiguous vacant land. William Harrison was granted 136 acres of tract called Re-Survey of Maidenhead on 13 July, 1770. The enlarged tract included some unclaimed land adjoining the original tract.

*************************

William Harrison sold 42 acres of tract called Maidenhead 25 Aug.,1772 to Ezekiel Cox of Frederick County, Maryland. There was no mention of William Harrison's wife. No release of Hannah Harrison's dower rights was found. The 42 acres changed hands for 5 pounds current money.

*************************

Robert Harrison of Frederick County, Maryland bought tract of land called the Good and Bad (about 15 acres for 16 pounds) from Ezekiel Cox. Recorded 13 March, 1773. Robert Harrison was granted two tracts of land - Roses Neglect on 31 May, 1765 and Long Island on 1 May, 1765. Robert Harrison sold all three tracts on 18 March, 1773 to Jacque Lancelot and Thomas Johnson Jr. of Annapolis, Maryland, for about 152 pounds. Roses Neglect was 39 acres, Long Island was 21 acres, and Good and Bad was 15 acres.

*note<" It is believed that this Robert Harrison was a brother of William Harrison. This Robert must have been born by 1744 in order to own property in 1765. An undated colonial tax list for Frederick County, Maryland lists William Harrison and Robert Harrison. It says that Robert is a resident of Virginia."

************************

William Harrison of Washington County, Maryland & wife Hannah sold 96 acres on 9 Aug., 1779 to John Palmer for 4500 pounds. This was called " part of tract called Maidenhead being part of tract called the Re-Survey of Maidenhead". The land was located about 1 mile above the mouth of Licking Creek.

Witnesses: Joseph Chapline, John Stults.

************************

William Harris (spelled Harris but is no doubt William Harrison) "of Washington County, Maryland" bought 2 tracts of land on Buffalo Creek in Ohio County, Virginia. Witness was Robert Harrison. This land was subsequently patented to William and Hannah Harrison's sons James & William Jr.

************************

James Harrison, "heir at law of William Harrison", and his mother Hannah sold William Harrison's land in 1787. James went to Kentucky where his brothers, William and Robert had settled.

****Note - It is believed that the Robert Harrison who owned the land in Washington County, Maryland was probably a brother of William Harrison. Also it is suspected that Robert Harrison had children who went to southwestern Pennsylvania (area also claimed by Virginia) about 1770. James Harrison, the son and heir of William , and 3 other Harrison men established claims in what is now Fayette Co., Pennsylvania, in 1769. No proof of a relationship has been found.
