HARRISON, GREENBERRY HORRAS (?-?). Greenberry Horras Harrison, early legislator, journalist, and boatman, was probably born between 1800 and 1810. He came to Texas late in 1835 and settled for a time in Houston County. He fought in the Cherokee War in 1839. After representing Houston County in the House of the Fifth Congress, he remained in Austin, where he edited and published a newspaper, the Austin Weekly Texian, later the Austin Daily Texian. In 1842 the paper was combined, possibly by Harrison, with the Brazos Farmer to continue as the Texian and Brazos Farmer. As owner and commander of the Nick Hill, Harrison carried cotton, wood, and other freight in that vessel until it was wrecked by a storm in Galveston Bay early in October 1854. Harrison was at first reported drowned, but he managed to save himself and in 1856 was living in California.
