On this twenty eighth day of May, 1842 personally appeared before me Charles Banner one of the acting Justices of the Peace in and for the County aforesaid, Jemima Harrison resident and pauper now is in the poorhouse of the County aforesaid, aged nearly eighty years, who being sworn according to law, doth on her oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the provision made by the Act of Congress passed July 7th, 1838, intitled in an Act granting half pay and Pensions to certain widows, from her infirmities is unable to travel, she has no record of her age only from hearsay of her parents who died many years ago, whos names was David and Mary Stewart. That she is the widow of Nathaniel Harrison who was a musition, Fifer and Drummer in the Militia and Regular Army in the war of the Revolution, and served in the several tours, she cannot remember all of them as he related them oftentimes, to her and others. But she recollects he said the first he went to Cross Creek, called Fayetteville, against the Tories about the beginning of the war as Drummer or fifer in Capt. Good(er-son?) and Capt. Dobsons Company, under Col. Joseph Williams. She does not remember the dates, but knew all the above named officers well. They all lived in the then Surry (?) County and Col. Williams was a neighbor to her father, and the rest said he went under the same officers. Shortly after the first tour, against the Cherokee Indians, and started in the summer and warm weather and returned after the next Christmas, when he said they destroyed the Indians Towns, and their corn and potatoes, etc., and afterwards he went in a Capt. Merideths Company after Tories, and the last tour she heard him talk of was under a Capt. James Shepperd, a long time to South Carolina, was in several battles with the James Shepperd. One battle he was in and had to run from British and swim a river, she thinks it was called Brier Ford or Creek. She does not recollect the length of time he served in all but he said it was nearly two years, but begs leave to refer to Mr. Lewis Wolf, Jacob Halsosick (Halsepeck?) and Benj. Jones, who are now living acquaintances and served with her husband, as she heard him talk of them.
She further declares that she was married to the said Nathaniel Harrison in Surry County, North Carolina in September, Seventeen Hundred and ninety-one, by Wm. Thornton, Esquire, who was a Justice of the peace, that her husband the aforesaid Nathaniel Harrison died twenty-three or 24 years past last October, that she was not married to him prior to his leaving the service, but the marriage took place previous to the first day of January Seventeen Hundred and Ninety-four (viz) at the time above stated, that she has but one living child named Peggy. Two others are dead that was born of her body whilst she and her husband the aforesaid Nathaniel Harrison lived in union together as man and wife. Said Peggy is about forty years of age, tho she has no record of her age and now is a widow called Peggy Grimes.
Sworn to and subscribed the day and year first above mentioned before me.

Thorntons who said he had married them together and that they were lawful man and wife, that this deponants father David Stewart was very angry at his neighbor Thornton, Esq. For marrying Jemima his daughter to Nathaniel Harrison aforesaid, as it was alledged that Harrison was mixed blooded, and appeared ------- (this was the end of the second page of the record # R4678, and for some reason the next page was omitted.).

Be it known that before me Charles Banner Justice of the Peace in and for the County aforesaid duly authorized by law to administer oaths, personally appeared Margaret Conrad, the only child and heir at law of the late Nathaniel and Jemima Harrison, a resident of the County and State aforesaid, who being first duly sworn according to law states that she is the widow of the late John Conrad, Dec'd and only living child and heir at law of the aforesaid Nathaniel and Jemima Harrison Dec'd formerly of Stokes County, North Carolina (now Forsyth County) her Father the said Nathaniel Harrison was a Revolutionary private, Musician Drummer, and that she believes the United States are still indebted under existing laws for the pension that was due her mother Jemima Harrison aforesaid under the application heretofore made by said Jemima Harrison and that she is directly interested as a claimant in the pension for which application was made heretofore as aforesaid. Therefore contitutes and appoints Isaac N. State of Tennessee _____ Second Judicial Circuit Blount County Circuit Court, July Term, 1832.
On this 8 day August 1832, personally appeared in open Court before the Honorable Circuit Court for the County Circuit and State aforesaid aged seventy four years on the 5 Day of June 1832 as he believes who being first duly sworn according to Law, doth, on his oath, make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the Act of Congress passed June 7, 1832. that he entered the service of the United States under the following named officers, and served as herein stated; Viz. In Rockingham County, North Carolina, in the month of august before the battle of Guilford. He was drafted for three months and mustered into service in Capt. Wilsons Company of Colonel Paisleys Regiment at Guilford C.H. and marched to near Salisbury and joined Genl. Davidson's Command and on the borders of South Carolina united with General Greene not far from Camden, where applicant remained until his term of service was nearly out when he was taken sick and sent off from the army with others who were sick. Shortly after applicants term of service expired, he recovered enough to be able to travel and returned home. After the battle of Guilford and the British commenced their march from there, applicant was again drafted in Rockingham County, North Carolina for three months, placed under the Command of Capt. John McAdoo of Col Isaac's Regiment and marched into the lower parts of North Carolina into the Torey Counties and in the Range of Col. Farman (?) a Torey leader where we watched and _____ harassed the Tory until near or at the expiration of his tour of service the company was marched home and discharged.
HARRISON HERITAGE
p. 272 JUNE 1982
Before the beforementioned services and in August 1776 as applicant believes, he was drafted to march against the Cherokee Indians, but being very young, my father would not let me go, but paid my fine, and in addition to the aforesaid service, the applicant with others (?) hired a substitute for twelve months, according to regulations then existing. Said substitute was received and mustered into service at Guilford Court House the summer after the battle there. This applicant has lost his discharges if he ever received any, and has no documentary evidence of his service, now in his power so far as he knows nor does he know of any person in Blount County, Tennessee where he has resided about twelve years last past, previous to which he resided in Washington and Green Counties, Tenn. He left North Carolina about thirty six years ago. He hereby relinquishes every claim whatever to a pension or annuity except the present, and declares that his name is not on the Pension roll of the agency of any state.

You got it from your father, it was all he had to give,
So it's yours to use and cherish, for as long as you may live.
If you lose the watch he gave you, it can always be replaced,
But a black mark on your name, can never be erased.
It was clean the day you took it, and a worthy name to bear,
When he got it from his father, there was no dishonor there.
So make sure you guard it wisely, after all is said and done,
You'll be glad the name is spotless, when you give it to your son.
