Dear Friends,

Home Again! ... from another exciting genealogy tour. I can hardly believe the success in locating family and ancestral homes. Nothing quite equals the ‘On-site" research. Getting a feel for the countryside where these people lived and raised their families and tracing their migration from state to state provides a special bond with the ‘grandparents’ of long ago.

This year, in Burlington County, New Jersey, I was surprised, even shocked to learn that HARRISON MANOR is still standing. Built by Richard and Ruth Harrison in the 1690’s (see page 560 of March issue), this beautiful old home tells us a lot about the Harrison family. This modernized house on 260 acres (as opposed to the original 1300 acres) left the Harrison family in 1950. The present owner, who invited us to view the entire building, purchased the farm from elderly Harrison brothers, who said the family had lost interest in buildings and land.

It is located in an area that has been set-aside by the State of New Jersey as Permanent Land Preservation. It is good to know that a developer will not tear down this and other nearby historic buildings in order to build a shopping center.

I have continued my Harrison Line in this issue…please note that the more I learn, the more I have to change the original account. But I shall keep plugging-away, unraveling the hidden past. Hope that you are doing the same with your HARRISON line.

IN THE NAME OF GOD, Amen, I, Kenelm Harrison of the County of Rowan and State of North Carolina, being weak in body of sound mind and memory, thanks be to Allmighty God, calling to mind the mortality of my flesh, and knowing it is appointed for all men once to die, do make, ordain, constitute, and appoint this to be my last will and testament, in maner and form following (viz) lst, I desire all my just and lawful debts to be paid by my executor hereafter to be appointed. 2^nd, I give, bequeath, and bestow, to my beloved wife Elizabeth the following property (viz) all of my stock of horses, being two in number, and all of my cattle, and all of my hogs, that I now have in my possession, and all of my household and kitchen furniture of every description, also all of my beding beds, bedstead, and furniture also all of my dresser furniture my clock, and all of my crop of cotton, corne, fodder wheat and bacon and all of my property of every description that is not mentioned above. All of the above mentioned property I give to my wife Elizabeth during her natural lifetime or widowhood, and at her death or second marriage then all of the above mentioned property (viz) my stock of houses(?), cattle, hogs, household, and kitchen furniture of every description as mentioned above and all of my property of ever description to be equally divided amongst all of my children, Susannah G. Harrison, Harriet Harrison, Kenelm T. Harrison, Thomas D. Harrison, to them and their heirs forever, and I do hereby appoint my beloved wife Elizabeth and my son Kenelm T. Harrison my Executors of this my last will and Testament, and I do hereby revoke and disanul and make void all wills, legacys, or bequeathments by me made, or done ratifying and confirming this to be my last will and Testament, in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 7^th day of February A. D. 1845. Signed sealed in the presence of us.

HARRISON WILLS

IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN. I, Sarah Harrison of Rowan County and State of North Carolina, being now in distress of body by sickness, but of sound mind and memory blessed be God and knowing that it is appointed that all mankind must depart this life. Do make and confirm this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following to wit: And after my departure form this life, that my body to be buried in a decent and Christian manner.

IMPREMIS it is my Will and desire that all my just debts shall be paid by my Executor, herein after named.

Secondly, I give and bequeath to my youngest child or son who is a bastard, not yet baptized and his name given by me is Chapman Alexander, all my estate of property of every description, to be sold by my executor to the best advantage, and also the small balance of money which is _____coming to me of the sale of the negros of the estate of Owen Harrison, dec’s in the hands of his Administrators. And all of which property it is my Will and desire that my executor shall use to the use of raising my said child Chapman Alexander, and that my executor manely (namely?) Greenbury Harrison, keep and raise my said child, and that he be amply paid for so doing, so long as the means of my estate may be sufficient therefor.

Thirdly, and lastly I hereby nominate appoint and ordain my trusty and faithful friend Greenbury Harrison Executor of this my last Will and Testament, utterly revoking, disannulling and disclaiming all other and former Wills. In witness whereof I the said Sarah Harrison have hereunto set my hand and seal this 14^th day of March AD. 1838.

IN THE NAME OF GOD, Amen. I, Hezekiah T. Harrison in the State of North Carolina and County of Rowan now in the 39^th year of my age, now in a declining state of health but sound in mind and memory and calling to mind the mortality of my body, do make and ordain this and this alone to be my last will and testament, hereby revoking all former wills by me made, do make in the following manner and from, Viz: I commit my soul through the merits of Jesus Christ to the God that gave it and my body to the earth from whence it came, to be buried in a Christian like manner at the descretion of my friends, not doubting but that I shall receive the same though the almighty power of God at the resurrection.

And as touching my worldly concerns which it hath please God to bless my with in this life, I give and devise in the following manner and form:

It is my earnest will and desire that all my just debts be pain (paid?) out of my estate by my executor hereafter named as soo (soon?) as convenient. I give and bequeath to my well beloved wife Margaret my plantation that I now live on during her widowhood for her own use and the use of my children. If my wife Margaret should marry I then and in that case I allow my plantation to be sold by my executor and if she should die I allow the land to be sold and the proceeds equally divided amongst my four children, Elizabeth Ann, Mary Adaline, Sarah Cathern and Margaret Amamda. I also give and bequeath to my wife all the beds and furniture now in my possession with my table and all the dresser furniture now on hand.

My will is further that my friends Abel Cowan, John Cowan and Abel Graham, Esq. come and lay off and a lot to my wife Margaret and my children so much of my crop stock and provisions as will serve? For their support one year.

_____the remainder of my property not named of every description I allow to be sold by my executors.

Lastly I nominate and constitute my worth and well beloved friend Joseph (?) Cowan executor of this my last will and testament in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 24^th day of Oct. 1839.
